Gloria E. Scott Tacy, 70, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 22, 2007, at her home.

She was born May 17, 1937, at Slatyfork, a daughter of the late Hartsel and Zelfa Dusky Henline.

She was married to Warren Lee Scott who preceded her in death April 24, 1974.

Surviving are two sons, Gregory Henline and wife, Susie, of Winchester, Va., and Brian Lee Scott and wife, Leasa, of Mill Creek; three daughters, Mrs. Claude (Louise) Miller of Gormania, Stephanie Dawn Moore of Mill Creek and Mrs. Charles (Becky) Fincham with whom she made her home near Mill Creek; two brothers, James Ray Henline and wife, Sandy, of Lakeview, Ohio, and Larry David Henline and wife, Ada Mae, of Mill Creek; and four sisters, Mrs. Bobby (Sharon) Amos of Valley Bend, Mrs. Billie (Francis “Kathy”) Lindsay of Huttonsville, Mrs. Gary (Joyce) May of Berryville and Pamela Phillips Taylor of Mill Creek. A stepson, Richard Scott and wife, Carolyn, of Huttonsville; two stepdaughters, Pamela Pluck of High Point, N.C., and Louise Pingley of Baltimore, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Ilene Booth and Carolyn Taylor; and four grandchildren, Raymond Miller, Lennie Miller, Misty Henline and Lori Henline.

Gloria was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who loved family, friends and car rides. She enjoyed playing cards and search word puzzles. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Wednesday, Sept. 26, she will be moved to the Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek for visitation from 11 a.m. until noon, the funeral hour. The Rev. Frank Long and the Rev. Gloria E. Scott Tacy, 70, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 22, 2007, at her home.

Elexis Tallman-Reed

Elexis Jade Tallman-Reed, infant daughter of Chelsea Marie Tallman and Michael Anthony Reed Jr., of Belington, was dead at birth on Sunday evening, Aug. 26, 2007, at Davis Memorial Hospital.

Surviving in addition to her parents are maternal grandparents, Melissa Tallman of Belington and William Tallman of Buckhannon; paternal grandparents, Nancy Lantz and Michael Reed of Junior; maternal great-grandparents, Eddie and Sandra Sue Corley of Belington, Gary and Patricia Carr of Buckhannon, and Larry and Bridget Tallman of Belington; paternal great-grandparents, Marshall and Dianna Reed of Belington, Marion Reed of Junior and Gary and Nancy Miller also of Junior.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Trinity Cemetery near Belington. The Rev. Doyle N. Rider will officiate. The Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.  From 29 Aug 2007.

Arlene H. Tanner

Arlene Harper Tanner, 84, a resident of the Frenchton community, departed this life Saturday, May 19, 2007, in Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center in Salem.

She was born June 11, 1922, in Roane County, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Orva Hunt Harper.

On Jan. 22, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ira John Tanner, who preceded her in death April 9, 1986.

Surviving are two sons, Jack Tanner and wife, June, of Morgantown and John Tanner and wife, Lois, of French Creek; two daughters, Ellen Tanner and husband, Robert Story, of Ozark, Ala., and Loretta Corathers and husband, Mac, of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren, Jill Kelley, Jeff, Chris and Mariah Long, J.B., Craig and Vanessa Tanner; nine great-grandchildren; two bothers-in-law, Orliss Tanner and John Burdette; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Harper and Orieda Harper.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia A. Long, five brothers and three sisters.

She was employed as a cook for Upshur County Board of Education, Upshur County Jail and the old Spudnut Shop. She was Methodist by faith.

Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the funeral home with the Rev. Delphia L Tanzola

Delphia L. Tunning Tanzola, 82, died on Saturday, June 2, 2007, in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover, N.J.

Born in Pickens to the late Bert and Retta Tunning, she moved to Boonton, N.J. in 1939.

On April 23, 1949, she married the late Matthew Tanzola in Monterville, and together they moved to Rockaway, N.J.

Mrs. Tanzola was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia Church in Rockaway and a member of St. Cecilia Senior Citizens Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew, in 2002, and by her siblings, Sara, Darious, Delma and Denver.

She is survived by three sons, Charles and his wife, Susan, John Matthew and his wife, Debbie, and Frank Montie; a sister, Donnis DeMouthe; three grandchildren, Steven, Christopher and Shannon Tanzola; and her lifetime friend, Cecelia C. Black of Buckhannon. Several nieces and nephews, some of who are Jasper and Robin Tunning of Pickens, Alesia Tunning Cool of Clarksville, Tenn., Jane Tunning Stewart of Fayetteville, N.C., and John Tunning of Altus, Okla.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 5, at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway, N.J., to a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Hainesville Cemetery. Danny L. Taylor

Danny Lee Taylor, 46, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007.

He was born June 11, 1960, at Mill Creek, the son of the late Kenneth and Effie Taylor.

He is survived by his children, Jessica Dawn Taylor and Dustin Lee Taylor; five brothers, Donald, Ronald, Delmar, Lawrence and Kenny Taylor; and one half brother, Coleman Currence, all of Mill Creek; two sisters, Debbie and Janet Taylor; and one foster sister, Millie Taylor of Elkins. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Connor Blake Armstrong and Brayden Andrew Armstrong. Special friends who helped raised him, Wilda and George “Andy” Currence and Teresa New, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Roger and Alan Taylor; one sister, Idell Taylor Moore; and one half brother, Clayton Currence.

Danny was a coal miner and was working for Lightning Contracting at the time of his death. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved his two grandsons very much.

Jamie Lynn Taylor, 23, a resident of Mill Creek, departed this life Monday morning, April 30, 2007, near Valley Bend. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born Thursday, June 9, 1983, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Alan Ray Taylor Sr. and Maria Lynn Taylor, who survives at Mill Creek.

Also surviving is one daughter, Kali Marie Taylor, at home; one sister, Jennifer Marie Taylor Martin and husband, Brad, of Beverly; one brother, Alan Taylor Jr. of Mill Creek; two grandfathers, Lawrence and John Taylor, both of Mill Creek; her boyfriend, Chris Taylor of Mill Creek; six nieces, Tiana, Salena, Shasta, Chiania, Ivy and Christina; two aunts, Debbie and Janet Taylor; four uncles, Kenny, Donald, Arnold and Randy Taylor; and several cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

Preceding her in death were her grandmothers, Carolyn and Pauline Taylor; and three uncles, Emory, Larry Michael and Danny Lee Taylor.

She attended Tygarts Valley High School and was currently taking GED and CNA classes. She had hoped to go to school to become a nurse. She loved to camp, play horseshoes, play with her daughter and spend time with her family. She loved her daughter very much and will be missed by her family and friends.

J. Ray Taylor

James Ray Taylor, 68, of Petersburg, and formerly of Arthur, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at Love Christian Assembly. Mildred M. Taylor

Mildred Maxine Hiner Taylor, 75, of Dunmore, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, at her home in Dunmore.

Born Dec. 11, 1931, at Monterey, Va., she was a daughter of the late Howard Russell and Madge White Hiner.

Mildred was a homemaker, a foster grandparent for Green Bank Elementary School for seven years, was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and worked on the Pocahontas County Election Board for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond G. Taylor, and a son, Ray Taylor.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda L. Grimes and husband, Terry, of Elkins; two sons, Roy Taylor and wife, Jean, of Durbin and Wayne Taylor and wife, Julie, of Canton, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Linda Taylor of Dunmore; one brother, Robert Hiner and wife, Faye, of Edinburg, Va.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church at Dunmore. The Rev. Pauline R. Taylor

Pauline Rebecca Lafayette Taylor, 93, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 5, 1913, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Clyde LaFayette and Missouri Russie Long LaFayette. On May 8, 1940, at Monterey, Va., she was married to Orval D. Taylor, who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1981.

She is survived by one sister, Violet “Billie” Gilmore of Harpertown Road; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Mrs. Taylor was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School. She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian by faith.

A private graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Brick Church Cemetery. The Rev. Bernard Teter officiated and interment followed. William L. Taylor

William Lyle Taylor, 71, of Green Bank, passed away, Thursday, March 15, 2007, at home.

Mr. Taylor was born Jan. 23, 1936, at Green Bank, to the late Daniel Clay and Edith Gum Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was owner-operator of Lyle’s Plumbing Supplies, a member of Cass Masonic Lodge 124 and was a 26-year Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, retired supervisor for MacDonnel Douglas in St. Louis, member of the National Rifle Association, member of the American Legion, member of Pocahontas County Senior Citizens and member of Pocahontas “Green Bank” Satellite. He graduated from Green Bank High School with the class of 1953, and was an AA in Electronic Engineering Tech at St. Louis Community College.

He was preceded in death by a son, Brion Taylor; a brother, Daniel Richard Taylor; and a grandson, Christopher Reeser.

Surviving are one daughter, Victoria Lynne Beaver and husband, Walter, of Belleville, Ill.; one son, Daniel Taylor and wife, Brenda L., of St. Peters, Mo.; two sisters, Rebecca Tillett and husband, Don, of Columbia, Md., and Jane Mospan of Green Bank; one brother, Zane Taylor and Kay of Green Bank; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the funeral home with the Rev. Wilma Lorine Barber Taylor, 84, a former resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, and for the last year, a resident of Iveagh Trust at Elkins, departed this life Wednesday morning, Aug. 29, at the nursing home following an extended illness.

Wilma Taylor

Wilma Lorene Barber Taylor, 84, a former resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, and for the last year, a resident of Iveagh Trust at Elkins, departed this life Wednesday morning, Aug. 29, 2007, at the nursing home following an extended illness.

She was born Tuesday, March 13, 1923, at Versailles, Mo., a daughter of the late Luther Barber and Marie Dilli Barber. She was twice married. First, on July 12, 1943, at Hutchinson, Kan., she was married to Kenneth L. Diffenderffer, 1st class, United States Navy, who was killed in Okinawa, Japan, during flight operations on Sept. 12, 1945. Second, on Jan. 1, 1964, she married Jimmy Taylor whom she divorced in 1980.

She is survived by one daughter, Billye Sue Hinzman and husband, Robert, of Beverly; one brother, Donald Barber, of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Tillie Cowan, of Santa Cruz, Calif., Arletta Erickson, of Casper, Wyo., and Juanita Pearson, of Lebanon, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Helen R. Barber of Corpus Christi, Texas; one grandson, Mark Edward Hinzman and fiancé, Jackie Cutlip of Elkins; twin great-grandsons, Dylan Chase and Andrew Jacob Hinzman of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Melvin, William and Roy Barber; and one special sister, Vera Bonine and her husband, Paul.

Wilma attended the schools of Versailles, Mo., and graduated from New York Business College, had served the United States Navy during World War II, had worked for the United States Navy Chaplain Office and the Naval Training Command at Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church of Corpus Christi and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins.

She was an avid golfer, ballroom dancer, duplicate bridge player, accomplished artist, world traveler and a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Saturday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Betty Deloris Riffle Teasdale, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, June 21, 2007.

She was born at Crawford, a daughter of the late Osborn Ray and Thelma Riffle.

She is survived by one sister, Norma Lee Johnson and husband, Ray, of Newport News, Va.; two nieces, Nancy Wolf and husband, Brian, of Parkersburg and Starr Gardiner and husband, John, of Westmont, N.J.; one nephew, Delray Johnson of Richmond, Va.; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; two sisters-in-law, Beulah and Hellen Riffle; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Osborn “Johnny” Riffle and Emory Dayton Riffle.

Betty had been a resident of Newport News, Va., since 1949. She was a member of Warwick Assembly of God Church. She had served on Crime Watch and received the Silver Dominion Award from the Virginia State Police in recognition for special support and assistance.

Dona W. Tenney

Dona W. Tenney, 79, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the home of his son.

He was born June 7, 1928, at Beans Mill, the son of the late Wilson Osburn and Addie Claire Tenney Tenney.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Etta Blagg Tenney.

He is survived by his second wife, Sylvia Bachman Tenney of Buckhannon; four children, Carolyn Lewis and husband, Earl D., of Buckhannon, George Tenney of French Creek the Waterloo Community, Mildred Vanskike and husband, Russel, of Missouri, and Pearl Hanifan of Adrian; several grandchildren; and a sister, Annie McCue of Stonecoal.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Randall Tenney.

He had worked as a coal miner and for the Division of Highways and was Methodist by faith.

Martha J. Tenney

Martha Jane Tenney, 60, of Lost Creek, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at her home under the care of People’s Hospice of Clarksburg.

She was born May 25, 1946, at Weston, a daughter of the late C. Clark Wolfe and Lorene Lewis Wolfe of Glenville.

On Sept. 19, 1964, she was married to David A. Tenney, who survives at Lost Creek.

Sylvia Balducci Tenney, 77, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, in United Hospital Center of Clarksburg.

She was born April 10, 1930, at Pickens, the daughter of the late Archibal Bachmann and Violet Newlon Bachmann.

Surviving are three stepdaughters, Carolyn Lewis and husband, Earl, of Buckhannon, Pearl Hanifan of Adrian and Mildred Vanskike and husband, Russell, of Missouri; one stepson, George W. Tenney of French Creek; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a few cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Parker; her second husband, Kenneth Balducci; her third husband, Dona W. Tenney; and one brother, Burl Bachmann.

She was a homemaker and attended Buckhannon Union Mission Church.

Wanda J. Tenney

Wanda J. Tenney, 84, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at her home under the care of S. Joseph’s Hospice.

She was born Sept. 27, 1922, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Denzil Hawkins and Dolly Tenney Hawkins.

On June 22, 1944, she was married to Leland W. Tenney, who preceded her in death March 27, 2006.

Surviving are four sons, Leland Douglas Tenney and wife, Judy, Dennis Tenney and wife, Navonda, Delmar Tenney and wife, Darla, and James Tenney, all of Buckhannon; three daughters, Kathryn Reed, Shirley Reed and Linda Keffer, all of Buckhannon; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, George B. Hawkins of Buckhannon; and one sister, Wilda Kimble of Ohio.

Also preceding her in death were one sister, Tina Hawkins; and four brothers.

She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.

Wendell C. Tenney

Wendell Clyde Tenney, 90, of Holbrook Nursing Home, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007.

He was born Sept. 26, 1916, at Tenmile, a son of the late John L. and Anna Smith Tenney. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Audra DeBarr Tenney.

He was united in marriage on Jan. 26, 1965, to Freda Kelley Tenney, who preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1987.

He is survived by three sons, Clyde Tenney and John L. Tenney, both of Buckhannon, and Charles Tenney of Virginia; three daughters, Patty Andrus and Stacey Suder, both of Buckhannon, and Betty Taylor of Hodgesville. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, Vendell and Webster Tenney; one sister, Isabelle Huffman; one son-in-law, William Andrus; one grandson, William Patrick Andrus; and one great-grandson.

Mr. Tenney enjoyed farming and his horses. He was a Baptist by faith.

At the request of Mr. Tenney, his body was donated to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date. The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  From 27 Aug 2007.

Ann Teter

Ann Teter, 66, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at her home.

She was born July 30, 1941, at Coalton, a daughter of the late Charles K. and Mary Louise Phillips Scott.

On Feb. 6, 1960, she was married to Earl E. Teter, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Richard Teter and wife, Tonia, and Robert Teter and wife, Kim, of Elkins; a daughter, Lora Hedrick and husband, Steve, of Beverly; four brothers, Richard, Robert and James Scott, all of Coalton and Bobby Scott of Moorefield; one sister, Elanor Zirkle of Coalton; four grandchildren, Ashley and Amy Teter, Stacey and Michael Lewis; a great-granddaughter, Haylie Young; and her father-in-law, Raymond Teter.

Two brothers preceded her in death, John and Franky Scott.

Mrs. Teter was a homemaker.

Gertrude Teter, 97, a resident of Beech Avenue, Philippi, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007, in Broaddus Hospital.

She was born Nov. 17, 1909, in Taylor County, a daughter of the late Floyd H. and Rebecca Triplett Roach.

She was united in marriage May 30, 1932, to Gerald “Bus” Teter, who preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1980.

Surviving are family friends and caregivers, Kay and Rusty Freeman of Philippi; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, James Roach.

Mrs. Teter retired from G.C. Murphy Co. in Philippi with 23 years of service. She was a member of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge 275, Tygart Valley LEH 28, Past Noble Grand Association, West Virginia Mountaineer Drill Team, Silent Grove Community Education Outreach Society, Woodmen of the World 229 and Philippi Baptist Church.

Mr. Glenn Teter Jr., 82, a resident of the Georgetown Road, Elkins, and more recently a resident of Colonial Place, passed away at 5:53 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007, in Colonial Place.

He was born Aug. 18, 1924, at Elkins, a son of the late Glenn Teter Sr. and Florence Kisamore Teter.

He was married to Ruth Beal Teter, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Samuel A. Teter and wife, Ann, of Harrisonburg, Va.; and one brother, Wayne L. Teter and wife, Jo Ellen, of Elkins. One grandson, Glenn A. Teter and wife, Rachel; and two great-granddaughters, Annabella and Samantha Teter also survive.

Also preceding him in death were four sisters, Velma Cooper, Beula Powell and two infant sisters.

Mr. Teter was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1942 and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during World War II. He retired from Teter Motors in Elkins where he was the parts manager for 41 years and was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and Gideons International.

William Howard Teter, 93, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.

On May 27, 1935, he was married to Tina Louise Smith Teter, who preceded him in death Sept. 25, 1991.

Teter and wife, Judy, and Jerry Lee Teter and wife, Teresa, all of Buckhannon; five grandsons, William D. Teter of Chester, S.C., Timothy L. Teter of York, S.C., David Canfield of Levittown, Pa., Allen Canfield and Jacob Teter, both of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Vickie Mason of Fincastle, Va., and Jessica Teter of Mesa, Ariz.; two stepgrandsons, Steven Loughlin and Derick Loughlin, both of Salsberry, N.C.; one stepgranddaughter, Sasha Loughlin of Statesville, N.C.; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Avis Shreve of Buckhannon and Wilda McGough of Columbus, Ohio.

He was a self-employed roofing contractor and attended Reger Chapel United Methodist Church.

Charles B. Teufel Jr.

Father Charles Bernard Teufel Jr., 72. died Aug. 13, 2007, at Wheeling.

A Wheeling native, Father Teufel was born May 3, 1935, the son of the late Charles and Rose Wilhelm Teufel.

He graduated from St. Michael School in Wheeling and is a 1953 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Wheeling.

Father Teufel made his preparatory studies for the priesthood at St. Charles College in Catonsville, Md., and St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore. He was ordained to the priesthood May 26, 1962, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Wheeling by the late Archbishop John J. Swint. Father Teufel retired from full-time ministry in 2000.

Bishop Michael J. Bransfield said that Father Teufel remained very active in retirement, providing weekend, short-term coverage so that brother priests could have much-needed vacations, assisting the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston by administering parishes until a pastor could be appointed and frequently providing sacramental ministry to Central Catholic High School, his alma mater. Father Teufel came out of retirement to serve as temporary administrator of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish in Cheat Lake and Mary Help of Christians Mission in Bruceton Mills from 2006 to 2007 and then of St. Anthony Parish in Fairmont, and Holy Spirit Parish in Monongah in 2007. He was also an avid aviator and president of the National Association of Priest Pilots.

Father Teufel served as associate pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Moundsville from 1962 to 1964, St. Theresa Parish in Morgantown from 1964 to 1966 and St. Joseph Parish in Huntington from 1966 to 1967; administrative substitute of Sacred Heart Parish in Williamson in 1967; pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Mullens and Holy Cross Mission in Pineville from 1967 to 1969; administrator of St. Brendan Parish in Elkins from 1970 to 1971; treasurer and business manager of St. Joseph Seminary in Vienna from 1969 to 1970 and as treasurer in 1971; pastor of St. Thomas Parish in Thomas, St. Veronica Parish in Davis, and Our Lady of Mercy Mission in Parsons from 1971 to 1975; and pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Fairmont from 1975 to 1986, of All Saints Parish in Barrackville from 1980 to 1986 and of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Wellsburg from 1986 to 2000. He also served as director of Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling from 1987 to 2000. Father Teufel also served as diocesan director of cemeteries, diocesan consultor, dean of the Fairmont Deanery, president of the Priest Senate, a member of the Diocesan School Board and a member of the board of directors of the Infirmed Priests Association, which is now known as the Priests’ Health and Retirement Association.

Father Teufel is survived by his brother, Ron and wife, Kay, of Charleston,; and several nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.

Reception of the body was at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at St. Michael Parish in Wheeling, with visitation immediately following the Rite of Reception until 8 p.m. in the church. The Vigil for the Deceased was at 8 p.m. Aug. 17 at St. Michael’s. The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Bishop Bransfield at St. Michael’s at noon on Aug. 18. Interment followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.

Dorothy A. Thacker

Mrs. Dorothy A. Durrett Thacker, 90, a resident of the Talbott Road near Belington, departed this life at 5:18 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007, at her home under the loving care of her family.

She was born Oct. 15, 1916, at Norton, a daughter of the late Oscar B. and Ocie Tallman Durrett.

On June 29, 1941, she was united in marriage to Fletcher Leo Thacker, who preceded her in death in 1961.

Mrs. Thacker is survived by one daughter, Christine Hicks and husband, Conrad, of Belington; one son Lynn “Skip” Thacker and wife, Patricia, of Crozet, Va.; grandchildren, Alex Hicks, Mindy Hicks, David Thacker, Matthew Thacker, Timothy Thacker and Lora Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Phillip and Daniel Johnson, and Julia R. Thacker. Also surviving are four sisters, June Ware and husband, Leo, Jean Bunner, Mary Ware, and Pauline Loar and husband, “Bus,” all of Belington.

Mrs. Thacker attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of Belington High School. She was also a graduate of Davis & Elkins College where she received her bachelor’s degree in teaching. Mrs. Thacker taught in the Barbour County School system for 22 years from which she retired. She was a member of the Concord Untied Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 18, and on Monday until 11:30 a.m., at which time she will be moved to the Concord United Methodist Church where she will lie in state from 1 p.m to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Eula Frances Tharp, 87, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

She was born April 27, 1920, in Pocahontas County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Peter Boggs and Susan Mae Sizemore Boggs.

On June 14, 1945, she was married to Mason Oliver Tharp, who preceded her in death Nov. 2, 2004.

Surviving are one son, Mason Eugene Tharp and wife, Flora (Chapman), of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Mason Eugene Tharp Jr. and wife, Betty, of Lenoir, N.C., Steven Michael Tharp and fiancee, Brenice Harper, Nicholas Wayne Tharp and wife, Lisa, and Jacob Randall Tharp, all of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Sonja Elaine Burt and husband, Andrew, of Harvest, Ala.; two great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; one stepgreat-granddaughter; one sister, Lucille Brooks of Buckhannon; and a half sister, Arlene Gould of Hinkleville.

Also preceding her in death was one sister, Hallie Hawkins.

She was a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital and attended First United Methodist Church in Tennerton. She was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36 Ladies Auxiliary, Tennerton Homemakers and American Legion Post 7 Ladies Auxiliary.

Stuart Thayer Sr.

Stuart Grey Thayer Sr., 87, died early Thursday evening Aug. 9, 2007, at his home. He was born, raised, lived and died in the mountain hamlet of Thomas. And live he did.

He was born Dec. 12, 1919, to Cecil and Edith (Stuart) Thayer. His six brothers and sisters all preceded him in death including Gwendolyn, Winifred, Richard, Norman, Carol and Joan.

He graduated from Thomas High School in 1937 and served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Like his grandfather Stuart, he worked many years in the coal fields.

On Jan. 8, 1942, he was married in Oakland, Md., to his beloved Eda Pausek who preceded him in death three years ago.

He and Edie reared six children. He is survived by five children: Mary Ellen (Thayer) and Edward Helmick of Omaha, Neb., Stuart Jr. and Vivian Thayer of Oakland, Md., Deborah (Thayer) and Ashton Curtis of Elkins, Karen (Thayer) Lewondowski of Thomas and Edie Gwen (Thayer) and Matthew McDowello of Davis.

Mr. Thayer is also survived by a special niece, Rebecca Wilkins of Keyser; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Thayer was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn Thayer; and one son-in-law, Edward Lewondowski.

Mr. Thayer was a business proprietor in Thomas for over 47 years. Having been a lifelong member of the Thomas United Methodist Church, he served the Lord by being a faithful steward of God’s good creation and cherished, protected and cared for the great outdoors.

He enjoyed both fly fishing and hunting his entire life. His love of fly fishing and caretaking of streams and wilderness has been passed onto his loved ones. All of his 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren have benefited from the exemplary life their grandfather lived.

It is befitting to close Stuart’s earthly chapter with Psalm 36:7-9, “How precious is Thy loving kindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Thy house; And Thou dost give them to drink of the river of Thy delights. For with Thee is the fountain of life; In Thy light we see light.” Amen.

Eva L. Thomas, 93, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, in Normandy Manor Nursing Home in Rocky River, Ohio.

She was born May 9, 1914, at Silica, a daughter of the late Frank Sines and Ida Daft Sines.

On Feb. 2, 1931, she was married to Albert Gordon Thomas, who preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1981.

Surviving are three daughters, Alberta Fitzgerald of Dennison, Ohio, Judy Eubank of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ida M. Tenney and husband, Ron, of Clover, S.C.; two sons, Jim Thomas and wife, Edie, of Elizabethton, Tenn., and John Thomas and wife, Kathy, of Elk Grove Village, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lenora Loudin of Florida.

Also preceding her in death were one son, Jerry Thomas; three sisters, Pearl Longdon, Elsie Wilde and Elva Evans; one brother, Arlie Sines; and two grandsons, Mike Eubank and Rick Fitzgerald.

She was a nurse’s aide and member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.

On Oct. 5, 1944, she was married to Charley M. Thomason, who preceded her in death in 1978.

Dortha Lee "Dot" Thomason, 81, a resident of Mabie passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 8, 1925, at Adolph, a daughter of the late Harmon and Ruth Snyder Cutright.

On Oct. 5, 1944, she was married to Charley M. Thomason, who preceded her in death in 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Allen Thomason and wife, Rose, of Norton and Donald Thomason and wife, Trish, of Beverly; and two daughters, Bonnie Wegman and husband, Bill, of Georgetown Road and Linda Davis and husband, Jerry, of Belington; one brother, Harmon "Ed" Cutright and wife, Virginia, of Belington; two sisters, Barbara Tawney and husband, Herald, of Barberton, Ohio, and Vera Hanifan of Barberton, Ohio; and a half sister, Rose Fox of Elkins. Nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding her in death were one son, William Michael Thomason; two brothers, William Joseph and Bunk Cutright; one sister, Garnetta Jewel Cutright; three half brothers, two half sisters, and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Thomason was a homemaker and a member of the Harrison Community Church.

George J. Thompson

George J. Thompson, 75, a resident of Route 2, Midway Road, Belington, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Barbour County, a son of the late George Amos and Hazel Juretha (Gainer) Thompson.

He was united in marriage Jan. 20, 1952, to Wanda R. (Nestor) Thompson, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa L. and husband, Brian Murphy, of Philippi and Joyce Rhea and husband, Scott Hawkins, of Philippi; two sons, Joseph Allen Thompson of Philippi and Timothy LeRoy Thompson of Fairmont; one sister, Betty and husband, James Booth, of Akron, Ohio; one brother, Lloyd M. and wife, Rosalie Thompson, of Akron, Ohio; and 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Virginia Potts and Wanda R. Knetcht; and one brother, Johnny Ersel Thompson.

Mr. Thompson worked as a coal miner for the Boylen Coal Co., and was a member of the Laborer International Unions of North America Local No. 984. He served in the U.S. Army in the 25th Topic Lightning Division during the Korean Conflict. He attended the North Central West Virginia Walk to Emmaus No. 61 and was a member of the Circuit Riders Gospel Quartet. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Corley United Methodist Church by faith.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 25, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday, March 26, from 8 a.m. to noon, at which time Mr. Thompson will be moved to the Corley United Methodist Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. John E. Thompson

John Everett Thompson, 67, of Bartow, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007, in General Division of Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston.

Born July 15, 1939, at Thornwood, he was a son of the late John and Mary A. Thompson Rexrode.

Mr. Thompson was employed by Interstate Hardwoods for five years, worked as a welder for 13 years with Trainmobile, was employed by Howes Lumber Co. for 25 years and loved snake hunting and berry picking. He, also, loved fishing, animals and loved the outdoors.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

John was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Maurer and Loretta Blankenship; and a brother, Arthur “Keyster” Rexrode.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Thompson; a son, John Kevin Thompson and wife, Peggy Ann, of Elkins; sisters, Hallie Sharp of Cleveland, Ohio, Wilma Warner of Durbin, Linda Sheets of Green Bank, Maxine Warner of Bartow and Barbara Taylor of Green Bank; brothers, Charlie Rexrode, Jefferson “Pete” Rexrode and Kenneth Rexrode, all of Thornwood, and Terry Rexrode of Avoco, Mich.; grandchildren, Nicole Dawn Thompson and Samantha Marie Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at the funeral home with the Rev. Roger L. Thompson

Roger Lee Thompson, 63, a resident of Route 6, Buckhannon, went home to be with the lord on Dec. 8, 2007, at his residence after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 27, 1943, at Philippi, a son of the late Dorsey Roosevelt and Madeline (Swick) Thompson.

He was united in marriage April 6, 1974, to Berta M. (Huffman) Thompson, who survives.

Also surviving are four sisters, Carol E. and husband, Roger Heatherly, of Belington, Gladys E. and husband, Raube McDaniel, Edna F. and husband, Robbie Waugaman, both of Philippi and Gloria S. and husband, Randy Smith, of Fairmont; one brother, Michael L. and wife, Shirley Thompson, of Philippi; and several special nieces and nephews

Mr. Thompson was formerly employed by Broaddus Hospital and retired from Corhart Refractories in 2004. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Thailand. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0200, a life-member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3560 and a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 00477 District 8. He also received a chapter pin in 4-H.

Mr. Thompson was an Amway Distributor and was certified in Biohazard and Disaster Relief. He was an avid flower lover and grower and enjoyed spending time at his fishpond. He was a member of Wayside Southern Baptist Church in Buckhannon where he served in many committees and as Sunday school teacher. He was a graduate of Philippi High School with the class of 1962.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time he will be moved to the Wayside Southern Baptist Church in Buckhannon to lie in state from noon until 2 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Knotts and the Rev. Michael George officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Camp Cemetery with military rites being accorded by the American Legion Post 44. George R. Thorn

George R. Thorn, 83, of Tallmansville, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 30, 2007, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.

He was born July 4, 1924, at Galloway, a son of the late Ray Thorn and Euphemia McCullough Thorn.

On May 28, 1949, he was married to Texie Maxine Koon Thorn, who survives at Tallmansville.

Also surviving are one son, Eugene Thorn and wife, Sandra, of Simon; two sisters, Betty Harvey of Queens and Bonnie Calvert of Warren, Ohio; 24 nieces and nephews; and many precious friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Thorne.

He was a steel worker and attended Queens United Methodist Church. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army 125th Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion, served as a defender of the English Channel and the Battle of the Bulge and was a member of the military police. He was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Color Guard, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion, served 17 years on the board of Tallmansville Volunteer Fire Department and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a leather craftsman, enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter.

Conway C. Thorne, 89 of Petersburg, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Iris L. Simmons

Iris Lemoyne Simmons, 79, of French Creek, died Friday, April 6, 2007, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born July 16, 1927, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Orville and Sarah Hinzman DeBarr.

On Dec. 13, 1947, she married Dorse Simmons, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Terri Channell and husband, Ron, of Clarksburg; two grandsons, Shawn Channel and wife, Maria, of Leominster, Mass., and Christopher Channell and wife, Angela, of Morgantown; three great-grandsons, Andrew, Matthew and Benjamin Channell; one brother, Edwin DeBarr of St. Albans; a nephew, Jim Halterman; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clell, Web and Jerry Debarr; and one sister, Mildred Halterman.

Mrs. Simmons was a receptionist for Dr. Courtney and was a Methodist by faith.

L. Thomas Thorne

Lowell Thomas “Tommy” Thorne, 76, of Williamson Avenue, Belington, died Sunday, May 27, 2007, near Belington, following an unexpected illness.

He was born Jan. 18, 1931, at Belington, a son of the late Porter L. and Audra (Ervin) Thorne.

On June 27, 1953, he married the former Vivian Eileen Ware, who survives at their home in Belington.

Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Larry (Rachel) Thorne of Belington and Roy Dale (Lona) Thorne of Belton, Texas.; two daughters, Helena Blanche (John) Price of Junior and Mary (Rick) George of Norton; two stepsons, Jerry L. (Rachel) Thorne of Belington and Christopher G. Thorne at home; two sisters, Arlene Kerby of Parkersburg and Freda Upton of Belington; three brothers, Doyle Thorne, Franklin Thorne and Porter “Bud” Thorne, all of Belington; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Lowell Raymond Thorne; by one sister, Aretta McDonald; six brothers, Clarence Thorne, Paul J. Thorne, Willard “Bill” Thorne, Wilbur “Wib” Thorne, Melvin Thorne and Hartsel Thorne; and by one grandson, Nicholas Raymond Thorne.

Mr. Thorne was a former sawyer and timber cutter. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being in the woods, especially hunting and harvesting ginseng. He was Nazarene by faith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Ave., Belington. The Rev. Doyle N. Rider and the Rev. Wayne Freeman will officiate and interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery.

Kenneth Thornhill

Kenneth Richard Thornhill, 84, of Buckhannon, died Friday, April 27, 2007, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born April 8, 1923, at Camden, a son of the late Zackeria Henry Thornhill and Stella Jane Smith Thornhill.

On March 1, 1948, he was married to Mary Josephine Lake Thornhill, who preceded him in death June 26, 2000.

Surviving are one son, the Rev. Donald Butcher and wife, Pamela, of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Traci Allison Dumire and husband, Todd, of Hurricane; one grandson, Brock Alex Butcher of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Allison Claire Dumire of Hurricane; one great-grandson, Cameron Todd Dumire of Hurricane; one brother, Clarence Edward Thornhill of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Howard Thornhill, Alpha Thornhill, Alva Thornhill, William Henry Thornhill and Paul Thornhill; and one sister, Opal Thornhill.

Mr. Thornhill was a stockroom clerk for Moore Business Forms and attended Wayside Southern Baptist Church, He was a member of CCC camps, Camp Bower, Camp Panther and Camp Lewis, before enlisting in the Army in 1942-1945, and later served with the U.S. Air Force. He was part of the Omaha Invasion. He was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion.

Mary A. Thurman

Mary Alice Thurman, 89, of Buckhannon, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at her home.

She was born Oct. 18, 1917, at Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Wilson Palmer Barlow and Alice Garrett Allen Barlow.

On July 5, 1942, she was married to William Clark Thurman, who preceded her in death March 24, 1950.

Surviving are one son, William C. Thurman and wife, Pamela J., of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Sara Beth Posey of Morgantown; one sister-in-law, Mary Lee (Rusmisell) Barlow of High Point, N.C.; two nephews, Andrew Allen Barlow of Raleigh, N.C., and Wilson Phillips Barlow of Hartford, Conn.; and one niece, Mary Price Furr of High Point, N.C.

Also preceding her in death was one sister, Elizabeth Allen Barlow; and one brother, Wilson Poundstone Barlow.

She was an English and speech teacher for Upshur County Board of Education. She attended First United Methodist Church. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood for more than 60 years, a life member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, a member of Emeritus Club at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Xi Delta, American Association of University Women, a board member of Gibson Library, a member of United Methodist Women and Upshur County Arts Alliance.

Friends will be received at First United Methodist Church Thursday, Feb. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles Goodwin and the Rev. William Tibbs

William “Bill” Tibbs, a native of Beverly and a resident of Detroit, Mich., passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in a Detroit hospital.

In Bill’s younger days, he loved spending time with his aunt, Mamie Tibbs Lewis.

Bill returned to the Elkins and Beverly area until his health deteriorated. Bill was a graduate of Riverside High School and was a member of the A&E Chapel Church. He retired from Edison Power Co. in Detroit.

Frances V. Tomblyn

Frances V. Tomblyn, 88, of the Tallmansville Road, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington.

She was born April 7, 1919, at Hemlock, the daughter of the late Ira and Rebecca Leigh Light.

Her husband, Garland Bruce Tomblyn, whom she married March 2, 1942, passed away May 4, 1967.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William B. and Nancy Tomblyn of Huntington; a daughter, Lana Ruth Tomblyn of the Tallmansville Road; two grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Michael and Dr. Marcy Tomblyn of Woodbury, Minn. and Melanie and John Savage Jr. of Richmond, Va.; and a sister, Bernice Anderson of Buckhannon.

Mrs. Tomblyn was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.

She was a homemaker and attended Mt. Washington United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel with services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at the chapel with Pastor Bill Blankenship and Pastor Edward J. James F. Tomey

 James Fredrick “Fred” Tomey, of Buckhannon, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

 He was born Dec. 7, 1919, at Buckhannon, the son of the late Goff Tomey and the late Madge Linger Tomey Lantz.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Tomey; and his second wife, Ruth White Tomey.

He is survived by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by two children.

He was a coal miner and farmer and had retired from Tomblyn-Whitescarver Rundio Funeral Chapel after 50-plus years in funeral service. He was the founder of Tomey Monuments and co-owner of Upshur Monuments.

 Family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel. Helen A. Toothman

Helen Arlene Toothman, of Rivesville, passed away at her daughter’s residence on Wednesday, April 4, 2007.

She was born July 2, 1923, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Edward Hiram and Anna Maude Straight Ballah.

Mrs. Toothman was a Methodist by faith. She attended Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Hoodsville. She retired from Hope Gas in 1985 with 10 years of service where she worked as an office clerk. She had earlier worked with the Fairmont Business College as a secretary, as well as with Fairmont TV Cable Co., Springer Appliance and Coppers Coal Co. for 10 years. Helen was a 50-year member of the Women of the Moose, Fairmont Lodge. She also belonged to the Ladies of the Eagles in Elkins. She was active in the Paw Paw Fair Association.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley June and her husband, Kenneth Bragg, of Rivesville and Rose Ann and her husband, James Carr, of Fairmont; grandchildren, Michael Bragg of Rivesville, David Bragg of Rivesville, Marlene Carr Leonard of Richmond, Va., Stanley Carr of Fairmont and Jay Carr of Seattle, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Arlie Ross Toothman, in 1992; and brothers, Walter and Robert Ballah.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Bragg, David Bragg, Stan Carr, Jay Carr, Brian Parker and Jeff Fluharty.

Marion Ruth True, 82, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at her home.

She was born Oct. 19, 1924, at Century, a daughter of the late Henry Lewis Moran and Gertrude May Smith Moran.

On Nov. 27, 1945, she was married to James R. True, who survives at Buckhannon.

Also surviving are one daughter, Clara Jean Hawkins and husband, Kevin, of Tallmansville; two grandsons, William A. Evans of Concord, N.C., and James Michael True of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; four granddaughters, Rebecca True-Capicola of Reno, Nev., Alicia Harvey-Auvil of Buckhannon, Alison Daugherty of Tallmansville and Amanda Nesbitt of Buckhannon; four great-grandsons, Caleb Daugherty of Tallmansville, Tyler Capicola of Reno, Nev., Aydan Auvil of Buckhannon and Joshua Nesbitt of Buckhannon; three great-granddaughters, Channell Capicola of Reno, Nev., Faith Auvil of Buckhannon and Brianna True of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; four brothers, Henry Lewis Moran of Buckhannon, William Jackson Moran of Century, Charles Thomas Moran of Philippi and Harry Garfield Moran of Centerville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian Harvey; one son, James R. True Jr.; three brothers, Fred Orville Moran, Richard Azey Moran and Robert Lewis Moran; and five sisters, Anna Andrea, Ruby Coleman, Floda Parziale, Clara Belle Storr and Mary Kurucz.

She was a homemaker and attended Way of Holiness Church.

Eva L. Trusler

Eva L. Harris Trusler, 80, of Buckhannon, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at her home under the care of People’s Hospice.

She was born Aug. 31, 1926, at Swamp Run, a daughter of the late George Wesley Harris and Geneva Goodwin Harris.

On Aug. 31, 1947, she was married to A.G. Trusler, who preceded her in death June 10, 2004.

Surviving are two sons, A.G. Trusler Jr. and wife, Marjorie, of Buckhannon and Roger L. Trusler of Marlinton; one grandson, Arthur G. Trusler III of Morgantown; one brother, Junior Harris and wife, Wanda, of Maryland; one sister, Shirley Dean and husband, David, of Buckhannon; one brother, Larrel Harris and wife, Jean, of Buckhannon; and special caregivers, Angie Moore, Sandy Adair, Stephanie Pryor and April Sands.

She was owner/operator of Buckhannon Livestock Restaurant. She had worked at Martin Marietta as head aircraft riveter during World War II. She attended House of Praise and North Buckhannon United Methodist Church.

Dencie Evelene Turner, 89, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at her home in Buckhannon.

She was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late John Jackson Greathouse and Grace Catherine Ratcliff Greathouse.

On Jan. 7, 1943, she was married to Warren L. Turner, who preceded her in death July 29, 1994.

Surviving are three daughters, Sylvia Turner Ghaznavi of Buckhannon, Blanche Branton and husband, Tim, of New York, and Mary Ann Cutright and husband, David, of Buckhannon; two sons, John Turner and wife, Kathy, of Buckhannon and Donald Turner and wife, Brenda, of Morgantown; 14 grandchildren, Ahmad Ghaznavi, Leila Ghaznavi, Matthew Branton, Jeremy Turner, Jessica Turner, Mariah Turner, David Turner, Spencer Turner, Elizabeth Slaughter Shipman, Bill Slaughter, Jason Slaughter, Joey Slaughter, Cody Cutright and Jacob Slaughter; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew Turner-Slaughter, Samuel Jang, William Ghaznavi, Kaleb Turner-Slaughter, Kaitlin Turner-Slaughter, Shelby Slaughter, Sidney Slaughter, Kalah Martin and Tess Ghaznavi; and very special senior companions, Leta Davission, Ulm Buena, Rena Smith and Margaret Slaughter.

Evelyn R. Turner

Evelyn Ray Hise Turner, 76, of Durbin, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at her home in Durbin. Born July 30, 1930, at Hightown, Va., she was a daughter of the late Alva Harper and Viola Hise Wolfe.

Mrs. Turner attended Arbovale United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, Herbert, Herman, Michael Sterl and Larry Turner; a sister, Alice Hise Meade; and two brothers, Raymond Wolfe and Richard Wolfe.

Survivors include her husband, Herman Turner of Durbin; three daughters, Helen White of Frank, Martha Plaugher and Julia Ann Plaugher, both of Durbin; one son, Harold Turner of Marlinton; two sisters, Marie Fultz of White Sulphur Springs and Charlotte Elza of Green Bank; four brothers, Henry Wolfe of Cass, Clayton Wolfe of Dunmore, Rodger Wolfe of Catlett, Va., and Lee Wolfe of Dunmore; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Herbert Lee Turner, 53, of Augusta, passed away Monday, April 30, 2007, in a Winchester, Va., hospital.

Mr. Turner was born Aug. 31, 1953, at Elkins, a son of Herman and Evelyn Hice Turner of Durbin.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Currence Turner of Augusta; his parents, Herman and Evelyn Hice Turner of Durbin; one son, Herbert Dewayne Turner and his wife, Sabrina, of Augusta; three sisters, Helen White of Frank, Martha Plaugher and Julia Ann Plaugher, both of Durbin; one brother, Harold Turner of Marlinton; one grandson, Damian Allen Turner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Michael, Sterl and Larry Turner.

Herbert was a disabled timber cutter and of the Nazarene faith.

Nancy R. Turner

Nancy R. Turner, 84, of Perrysburg, Ohio, died, Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, Ohio.

She was born March 28, 1923, at Elkins, to Otto S. and Ruth M. (Hamill) Russell.

She was married in Huttonsville on Sept. 11, 1947, to Jack T. Turner, who preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1998.

Nancy served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II as a code analyzer. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in home economics from West Virginia University. Nancy was first employed as a high school home economics teacher at University High School in Morgantown. She later worked as a nutritionist with Kraft Foods in Chicago, Ill. She was a longtime volunteer and former president of West Virginia University Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, John T. Turner of Perrysburg, Ohio; daughter, Margaret Nan Turner of Wilmington, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher R. and Sara A. Turner of Perrysburg, Ohio; and two brothers, John P. Russell of Mill Creek and Charles W. Russell of Summerfield, Fla.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law, Theresa G. Turner.

Alfred M. Tuzzo

Alfred M. “Fred” Tuzzo, 89, passed away peaceably in his sleep on Sunday morning, Dec. 31, 2006, in Silver Lake Specialized Care Center at Staten Island, N.Y. His death was unexpected.

He was born May 7, 1917, at Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Angelo and Giaconda Tuzzo.

On Nov. 12, 1942, at Brooklyn, N.Y., he was married to the former Lura Lafayette Tuzzo, who preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1964.

Surviving are three sons, Alfred C. Tuzzo and wife, Nikki, of New York, John B. Tuzzo and wife, Pat, of New York, and Steven Tuzzo and wife, Martha, of Clarksburg; and one daughter, Catherine “Cathy” and husband, Bernard Teter, of Valley Bend, with whom Mr. Tuzzo made his home before moving back to New York; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Schnabel of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Tuzzo was a World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He helped pilot landing craft during the invasion of Sicily, Normandy and Omaha Beach for which he was awarded three congressional medals. After his discharge as seaman third class, Mr. Tuzzo moved to Ellenville, N.Y., where he worked in construction for 20 years on the reservoirs that supply New York City with water. He later moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was a manager at a paper factory, then as a night security chief at Bloomingdales in Manhattan, N.Y. He retired in 1981.

Mr. Tuzzo was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had many friends in the Elkins area. He was an avid sports fan. He loved his New York Yankees and Notre Dame. Mr. Tuzzo was much loved by family and friends, and he will be sadly missed.

Private family funeral services were conducted by Matthews Funeral Home and military graveside services were conducted by U.S. Coast Guard Catholic Chaplain and Honor Guard with burial in Long Island National Cemetery at Farmingdale, N.Y.  From 31 Jan 2007.

Iris K. Tyre

Iris Kay Tyre, 57, of Elkins, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2007, in the Davis Memorial Hospital. All of her sisters and brothers, plus other family members, were present.

Iris, an inspiration to all who knew her, was born on Aug. 20, 1950, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Albert and Laura Tyre.

She served on the staff of the Randolph County Senior Center for 28 years.

Survivors include three sisters and their husbands, Charlene and William Snodgrass and Carolyn and Roger Jackson, of Elkins, and Marilyn and George Moore of Merced, Calif.; and three brothers and their wives, Kenneth and Jo Ellen Tyre of Becky’s Creek, Keith and Vicki Tyre of Elkins and Edward and Barbara Tyre of Elkins; several nieces and nephews, Sandy Hogan of Elkins, Julie and Brian Simmons of Elkins, Deborah Moore of Lubbock, Texas, Rebecca and Sam Marshall of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sarah and Evan Larson of Bismarck, N.D., Richard Tyre of Tallahassee, Fla., Matthew Tyre of Orlando, Fla., Brian Keith and Sarah Tyre of Elkins, Kenneth Lee Tyre of Huttonsville and Kim and Dale Hayes of Richmond, Va. Also surviving are great-nieces and great-nephews, Garrett, Laura and Caroline Simmons of Elkins, Ashley Moore of Arlington, Texas, Samuel Moore of Lubbock, Texas, Lydia, Timothy and Nicholas Marshall of Colorado Springs, Colo., Luke and Michael Larson of Bismarck, N.D., Sean, Hayley and Laney Tyre, all of Elkins, Cameron Tyre of Coalton and Andrew and Matthew Hayes of Richmond, Va.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkins, secretary of the Elkins High School Alumni Association, Past Noble Grand of Delphia Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Randolph County Cancer Support Group. Iris was a kind and loving person who was noted for her quick wit and outgoing personality. She never allowed her physical handicap to interfere with her activities. Her primary interests revolved around family members, and she lived a life of selfless dedication to the elderly and those in need. She also was devoted to her canine companion, Rusty.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Sunday, Nov. 18, she will be moved to the First United Methodist Church in Elkins where a funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley officiating.
