Jarrod Tucker Ables, infant, died Sunday, July 8, 2007, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born July 8, 2007, the infant son of John Ales and Betsy Talbott, who survive at Buckhannon.

Also surviving are a half sister, Megan Talbott of Buckhannon; a half brother, Tyler Ables of Buckhannon; maternal grandfather, Richard L. Talbott of Buckhannon; maternal grandmother, Suzanne Talbott of Buckhannon; maternal great-grandmother, Anna Lee Combs of Buckhannon; and an aunt, Melanie Talbott of Mooresville, N.C.

Betty V. Absher

Betty Virginia Absher, 71, of Mocksville, N.C., died Oct. 7, 2007, in Ardell Hospital in Statesville, N.C.

She was born April 5, 1936, at Red Oak, Md., a daughter of the late John Henry Shupp Sr. and Bessie Sue Hartley.

Survivors include one son, James M. (Donna) Absher of Jonesville, N.C.; two daughters, Karen Absher of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Libby (Gus) Harris of Mocksville, N.C.; five brothers, Charles (Emma) Shupp of Baltimore, Md., Cliff (Margo) Shupp of Parsons, John Henry (Linda) Shupp of Thomas, William Albert Shupp of Taylor, Mich., and Jerry (Fran) Shupp of Thomas; three sisters, Hilda Jean (James) Diffenbaugh of Bellaire, Md., Emma (Larry) Stemple of St. George and Sue (Bob) Young of Thomas; grandchildren, James, John, Sherry, Crystal, Janie and Katie; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen English.

Ellen Ann Achee, 77, a resident of Holbrook Nursing Home of Buckhannon, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born Dec. 5, 1929, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Lloyd “Jake” and Bheula “Biddy” Hall Cogar.

Surviving are three sons, Rodney Setterlund of Austin, Texas, Phillip Setterlund of Hacker Valley and Joe Setterlund of Oregon; one daughter, Sherry Setterlund of Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Donald Cogar of Rocky River, Ohio, and Delmas Cogar of Elkins; three sisters, Neva Sears of Strongsville, Ohio, Leota Parsons of Brookpark, Ohio, and Mardell Kline of Buckhannon; and her former husband, Phillip Setterlund of Troutdale, Ore.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Garnet Cogar; three sisters, Louise Wright, Doris Watkins and Katrina Darby; and her former husband, Joe Achee.

She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith. Ellen Ann lived most of her life in Texas but has resided in Holbrook Nursing Home for the last five years. She will be missed by her family and many friends that she has made throughout her life, especially at the nursing home.

Viewing will be at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel today from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Hazel “Chris” Vieva Bennett Adams, 86, of Wheeling, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Philippi.

She was born Sept. 8, 1920, at Wheeling, the daughter of the late Charles Bennett Sr. and Mildred P. McCuskey Bennett.

She was a member of Elm Grove Methodist Church in Wheeling.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald V. Adams, in 1979; a sister, Emma Marshall; and a brother, Charles Bennett Jr.

Surviving are two sons, Donald W. Rutledge and his wife, Rose, of Wheeling and Randall B. Adams and his wife, Karen, of Philippi; three sisters, Kathleen Lovendusky of Rockville, Md., Peg Walters of Wheeling and Bonnie Idahl of Wheeling; four grandchildren, Christine Yocum, Jennifer Poling, Brandie Brown and Lisa Aley; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends were received Monday at Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger St. in Wheeling. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Bryan D. Carpenter officiating. Mrs. Helen Sirbaugh Adams, 98, a former resident of Valley Head and a resident of Russell, Ky., for the past several years, passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 2007, in Kentucky.

She was born Sept. 22, 1908, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late John and Bernice Tacy Sirbaugh.

On March 5, 1931, at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins, she was married to Samuel Ward Adams, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1990.

Surviving are two sons, Jennings Adams and wife, Rachel, of Cleveland, Ohio, and John Adams and wife, Helen, of Lanham, Md.; and three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Janet) Ganis of Ashburn, Va., Mrs. Dean (Judy) Bayes of Russell, Ky., and Mrs. Ron (Janie) Long of Dayton, Ohio. Fourteen grandchildren, Mrs. Kevin (Vickie) Hayenga, Randy Adams and wife, Kathy, Mrs. Steve (Cindy) Hoppe, Mike Bayes and wife, Faith, Mrs. John (Rhonda) Fabrizo, David Bayes, Chris Ganis and wife, Detra, John Junior Adams, Steve Bayes, April Adams, Kim Tice, Christy Cairns and husband, Gordon, Tracey Stitzel and husband, David, and Todd Long and wife, Kimberly; and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Cecil and Ralph Sirbaugh; a sister, Mary Moore; and one great-grandchild.

Helen was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church at Valley Head, United Methodist Women and the Extension Homemakers.

Richard Albert Adamson III, 42, of Franklin and Pembroke Pines, Fla., passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in a tragic accident in his home on North Fork Mountain near Franklin.

Army Spc. Wilson Andrew Algrim, 21, a resident of Howell, Mich., departed this life Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, as a result of combat operations in Iraq.

He was born Tuesday, July 30, 1985, at Antioquia, Colombia, a son of Donald Algrim and Judy M. Lambert Algrim of Howell, Mich.

Also surviving are two sisters, Janet and Lisa Algrim, and one brother, Jason Algrim, all of Howell, Mich.; his maternal grandmother, Mary Josephine Lambert of Wymer and Beverly; his paternal grandmother, Helen Algrim-Koonce of Florida; two uncles, Geary Lambert of Elkins and Wayne Lambert of Beverly.

Preceding him in death was his maternal grandfather, Harry Lambert.

Charles G. Allen, 91, of Wyandotte, Mich., died Dec. 19, 2006, in Providence Hospital at Southfield, Mich.

Born Aug. 29, 1915, at Elkins, he was the loving husband of Mary Bruce Allen; dearest father of Mary Fran (David) Whitehurst, Sarah (Sam) Modica, Kathryn Elizabeth (Leo) Seavey and Garry (Annette) Allen. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one brother, Carter R. Allen.

Diane Carol (Sheaffer) Allen, 53, of Petersburg, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at the Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Barbara E. Dix Alexander, 42. a resident of Route 1, Moatsville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 21, 1964, at Morgantown, a daughter of the late John and Maxine (Wiant) Dix. She was reared by Arthur Alexander and the late Faye Alexander.

She was united in marriage on May 12, 1983 to Wayne Scott Alexander, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, James S. Alexander and companion, Camarin Anderson and Jonathan W. Edith Mae Allman, 87, of Davis, passed away July 1, 2007, in Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.

She was born Feb. 22, 1920, at Henry, a daughter of the late William Benny and Susie Martin Mullenax.

She was first married in 1939 to Edward Lee Smith, who was killed in the service in 1943. In 1946, she married Arthur Allman, who preceded her death in 1995.

Survivors include one sister, Alice “Peggy” Morgan of Reading, Pa.; and one niece, Alice Roush of Davis.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Alfred, Lester, Luther, Walter, Gene and Wayne Mullenax; and two sisters, Ethel Mullenax and Goldie Evans.

Edith was first employed in Baltimore, Md., where she worked for the Port of Embark with the 3rd Service Command as a dispatcher and receptionist. She then worked and retired from the Davis Center after 19 years. She was a member of Davis United Methodist Church, Blackwater Rebekah Lodge 274, charter member of FOE 936 Ladies Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Elkins.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home at Davis Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at Davis United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martha Rebecca Alt, 88, a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center and formerly of Petersburg, died June 11, 2007, in the center.

She was born July 21, 1918, at Brushy Run, a daughter of the late Jacob A. Hedrick and Mary “Molly” Rexrode Hedrick.

On Aug. 1, 1934, she was married to Arthur C. Alt, who preceded her in death Oct. 16, 2006. They had celebrated 72 years of marriage.

Surviving are two daughters, Rosalie Leatherman and husband, George, of Alamogordo, N.M., and Elinor Evans and husband, Bruce, of Beverly; one son, Arthur C. “Buddy” Alt Jr. of Valley Bend; two granddaughters, Rebecca Harbin of Madison, Wis., and Dawn Hale of Elkins; one grandson, George D. “Sam” Leatherman of Alamogordo, N.M.; two great-granddaughters, Angela Cox of Phoenix, Ariz., and Heather Cox of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Elva Ratliff and Mary Alexander of Harrisonburg, Va., and Juanita Miller of Luray, Va.; and two brothers, Vernon Hedrick and Jacob A. Hedrick Jr. of Harrisonburg, Va.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Condie Hedrick and Pete Hedrick; and one sister, Hadie Hartman.

She was retired from Petersburg Bag Co. and Windsor Knit. She attended Alt School House and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Ladies Auxiliary of Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Shelby Jean Turner Alt, 67, a resident of Panorama Way, Beverly, departed this life Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2007, at her home.

She was born Monday, Jan. 29, 1940, at Petersburg, a daughter of Nellie G. Borror Turner, who survives at Petersburg.

On Feb. 3, 1963, she was married to Dennis C. Alt, who survives. They had celebrated 44 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son, Barry T. Alt of Indianapolis, Ind.,, and his children, Tyler and Denver Alt; one daughter, Mendy G. Marshall and husband, Chuck, of Poca, and their son, Lucas Marshall; three brothers, Randall Turner and wife, Linda, and Kelly Turner and wife, Debbie, all of Petersburg and Gregory Turner and wife, Marcia, of Sterling, Va.; five sisters, Brenda Brewer and Blondena Turner, both of Petersburg, Sarah Willie and husband, Doug, of Herndon, Va., Margie Judy and husband, David, of Upper Tract and Marsha Lahman and husband, Terry, of Lahmansville; one sister-in-law, Darlene Turner of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her father, Otha Turner; and two brothers, O. Dwayne and David Turner.

She was a graduate of Petersburg High School with the class of 1958 and had worked as a secretary in the office of Special Education for the Randolph County Board of Education, retiring in 2003 with 23 years of service. She was a member of Beverly Woman’s Club, Randolph County Retired School Employees and Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time at her lake home and traveling.

John Norman Amorese, 56, a native of Randolph County and more recently a resident of Jane Lew, departed this life Thursday afternoon, June 14, 2007, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.

John Norman Amorese, 56, a native of Randolph County, a former resident of Jane Lew and more recently a resident of Buckhannon, departed this life Thursday afternoon, June 14, 2007, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. Death was attributed to complications from diabetes.

He was born Friday, April 6, 1951, at Charleston, a son of the late Frank Amorese and Marguerite Mansfield Amorese.

He was married to the former Jayne Puffenbarger, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Preston Quinn Amorese of Philippi and Travis Reiley Amorese of Buckhannon; two brothers, his twin, Carl Amorese and wife, Rebecca, of Elkins and Roger Amorese of Elkins.

He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1970 and was a noted drummer with the Elkins High School Fighting Tiger Band. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army for 12 years, serving in Hawaii and Germany.

Beulah Anderson, 93, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007, in the United Hospital Center.

She was a former resident of Route 4, Boulder community in Buckhannon, and more recently made her home with Lee and Sharon Kelley at Clarksburg.

She was born Jan. 20, 1913, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Lecher and Annie (Thorn) Markley.

She was united in marriage on Jan. 6, 1934, to Cecil Y. Anderson, who preceded her in death April 22, 1988.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Bender of Buckhannon and Dorothy Miller of Aberdeen, Md.; one son, Theodore C. and wife Patricia Anderson of Joppa, Md.; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by one infant daughter; one son, Edward M. Anderson; one sister, Mattie Anderson; and two brothers, Vincent and James Markley.

Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker and a member of the Boulder United Methodist Church.

Mashayla Raine Anderson, stillborn daughter of William Arthur Anderson Jr. and Melody Dawn Smith, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.

William Raymond Anderson, 61, of Braddock Street, Morgantown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, in Ruby Memorial.

He was born Aug. 5, 1945, at Buckhannon, the son of Wilma Wilfond Anderson Black of Buckhannon and the late Raymond Anderson.

William was employed at South Park Exxon and a member of Highland Methodist Church.

William is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith Anderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Dawn and Gene Schlette of Bowie, Md.; a grandchild, Ashley Schlette of Bowie, Md.; and four sisters all of Buckhannon.

He was born Jan. 3, 1924, at Heaston Ridge, Upshur County, a son of the late Troy Harvey and Margarite Boggs Andrew.

He is survived by a son, John Andrew of Pennsboro; and a brother, Ralph Richard Andrew Sr. and wife, Almetta, of Heaston Ridge.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Eugene Andrew; a brother, James “Jim” John Andrew; and a sister, Ruth Lorraine Riley.

He was the head sawyer on a sawmill and attended Heaston United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends at Heaston United Methodist Church at Heaston Ridge Sunday, Nov. 11, from noon until 1 p.m., the service hour. The Rev. Illa Jayne Andrews, devoted wife and mother and lifelong resident of Hurricane, passed away on March 31 at the age of 74.

Illa was the valedictorian of Hurricane High School’s class of 1949. She graduated from the Huntington School of Business and attended Marshall University. Her professional career began at Princess Coal Sales where she worked for 22 years, serving 14 years as advertising coordinator. She also worked as a proof clerk for the Putnam County Bank for over 10 years before retiring in 1998. Illa’s greatest dedication was to her family, whom she loved and cared for dearly, her husband, James, whom she married on July 5, 1962, and her son, Brian, whom she had June 23, 1973.

Illa enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling and listening to music. She was an active member of the Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, volunteering as church secretary and chairperson of fund-raising drives during the 1950s and ’60s. She later served the church as a volunteer receptionist.

Illa is survived by her husband, James; her son, Brian and his wife, Lea, of Alexandria, Va.; her sister, Arlene Pullen of Hurricane; and her brother-in-law, John and his wife, Mary, of Aiken, S.C.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James Ray and Ruby Hope Pullen.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at the Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church on Friday, April 6, at 10 a.m. with Dr. I. Mark Conner, superintendent of the Western District United Methodist Church of West Virginia, officiating. Robert Lee Andrick, 82, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Buckhannon under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.

He was born Jan. 4, 1925, at Buckhannon, the son of the late Nellie Byrd.

Surviving are nine cousins, Nancy C. Shobe and husband, Fred, Katherine Stalnaker, Matthew Gregory and wife, Holly, Patrick Gregory and Joshua Gregory, all of Buckhannon, Suzanne Myers and husband, Jerry, and Caleb Myers, all of Rock Cave, and Robert Stalnaker and wife, Susan, and Robert Stalnaker II, all of Gassaway.

He was also preceded in death by one cousin, Patricia Muncy; one grandmother, Nora Belle Andrick; and one grandfather, William A. Andrick.

He was a teacher with the Lewis County Board of Education and attended Christian Faith Center. He was a member of Lewis County Retired Teachers Association, a 1950 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, member of WVWC Emeritus Club and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Louis Joseph Antoline, 89, a native of Coalton and a resident of Arthurdale, departed this life Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, 2007, in Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.

He was born Saturday, Oct. 27, 1917, at Coalton, a son of the late Nunzio “James” Antoline and Antionetta DiBacco Antoline.

On July 7, 1947, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Doris Ann Hutchison, who preceded him in death in 1985.

Surviving are one son, Steve Antoline and wife, Jameberlyn, of Summersville; two daughters, Connie Holmes of Louisville, Ohio, and Cathy Messenger and husband, Chuck, of Bruceton Mills; five grandchildren, Tracy Holmes, Debbie Frederick, Emily, Kristopher and Madison Antoline; one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Frederick; and a special niece, Frances Girard.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, James and Patrick Antoline; two sisters, his twin sister, Anna Polce, and Cora Travise.

Louis attended the schools of Coalton, was a well known businessman, having owned and operated Antoline Mining and Connie Coal Co. in Preston County and later served as a shift superintendent for Consolidated Coal Co., Osage No. 3 Mine in Monongalia County, retiring in 1980.

He was a sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a life member of H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post at Masontown and Saint Zita’s Catholic Church at Masontown.

Betty Jane Arbogast, 82, of Cass, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, in Colonial Place in Elkins.

Born Sept. 2, 1925, at Green Bank, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Josie Lee Taylor Elliott.

Mrs. Arbogast had been a resident of Cass since 1946. She attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a retired post office clerk with the U.S. Postal Service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett M. Arbogast, on March 11, 2007; and a brother, Granville H. Elliott.

Surviving are one sister, Woodsie Ellen Ashford of Princeton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Diana Arbogast, 51, a resident of Glady, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 29, 1956, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Merl and Nellie Hampiture Sponaugle.

On May 27, 1976, at Oakland, Md., she was married to David Lee Arbogast, who survives at Glady.

Also surviving are two sons, Timothy Arbogast of Elkins and Brian Arbogast of Glady; and one daughter, Karen Delphy and husband, Michael, of Beverly. Three brothers, Billy Sponaugle and Donald Sponaugle of Elkins and Michael Sponaugle of Virginia; three sisters, Kathy Harlan, Glenda Warner and Connie Sponaugle, all of Belington; two granddaughters, Andrea and Riley Delphy; and three aunts, Barbara Tingler, Ruby Vance and Naomi Vandevender, also survive.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Steve Hampiture, Randy Sponaugle and Danny Joe Sponaugle.

Mrs. Arbogast attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane Elliot Arbogast of Elkins; one sister, Irene Cassell of Marlinton; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by three daughters, Betty Susian Arbogast, Elizabeth Jane Arbogast and Iris Ella Arbogast; three sons, Kenny Edward Arbogast, Robert Marshall Arbogast and Daniel Lee Arbogast; one grandson, David Scott; one sister, Helen Swisher; and two brothers, Ernest M. Arbogast and Roy G. Arbogast.

He was a shipping and receiving clerk for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, a member of Cass United Methodist Church and a veteran of the Air Force during World War II.

Gary Francis Arbogast, 52, a resident of the Harding community, Norton, departed this life Friday evening, Nov. 23, 2007, at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born Friday, Dec. 10, 1954, at Elkins, a son of the late Arlin “Bube” Arbogast and Carrie Rachel Wegman Arbogast.

On Feb. 19, 1977, he married the former Debra Elaine White, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Adam Wayne Arbogast of Norton; four brothers, Harry Allen Arbogast and wife, Janet, of Elkins, Delmas Johnson Arbogast and wife, Virginia, of Kerens, Marvin Arbogast and James Arbogast, both of Elkins; one sister, Geraldine Robers of Milton, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Dyanne Gilmore of Elkins and Dorothy Arbogast of El Paso, Texas, and Linda Pritt, Ozark, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Roger Dale Pritt and Danny Lynn Arbogast; and one sister, Glenda Jean King.

Gary attended the schools of Elkins, had worked at Super Motel for more than 10 years and loved hunting, fishing and woodworking.

George Ellis “Porge” Arbogast, 51, a resident of Cole Avenue, Elkins, departed this life Thursday evening, Aug. 16, 2007, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past five years.

He was born Friday, Oct. 14, 1955, at Elkins, a son of the late Glenn O. Arbogast and Lillie Ryan Arbogast.

On December 3, 2001, at Elkins, he was married to the former Lanette Young, who survives.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Carl and Ronnie; one sister, June; and one stepgrandson, Shane Rice.

George attended the schools of Randolph County, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a carpenter by trade, was an avid outdoorsman and loved motorcycles.

Preceding him in death were one brother, Jesse L. Arbogast; and one sister, Penny Eskridge.

Herbert had attended Elkins High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation at Baltimore, Md., retiring in 1979. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.

Iris Lee Howard Arbogast, 59, a resident of Valley Bend, passed away at 10:46 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, in the emergency department of Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born May 8, 1947 at Mill Creek, a daughter of Roxie L. Tacy Howard, who survives at Dailey, and the late Burl Howard.

On June 13, 1964, she was married to Gary A. Arbogast, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Gary L. Arbogast and his wife, Tammy, of Valley Bend; one daughter, Crystal D. Arbogast McCauley and husband, Duane, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and one sister, Mrs. Leon (Mary Ann) Rennix of Valley Bend. Two grandchildren, Samantha Cook and Ashley Arbogast, both of Valley Bend, also survive.

Mrs. Arbogast had attended Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek prior to her illness. She was last employed at C and J’s Dairy King at Valley Bend. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Juanita R. Arbogast

Juanita Ruth Arbogast, 78, of East Springfield, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 31, 1929, at Elkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Arbogast, in 1988.

She had been residing at the home of her only son, Roy Arbogast and wife, Eileen, at East Springfield, Ohio, for the past few years.

Her previous home was at Adolph where she faithfully attended several surrounding area churches.

She is the last of six children of Grover and Mellie Hammond. Preceding her in death were her mother and father; three brothers, Dale, Paul and Roy; two sisters, Pauline Taylor and Dorothy Fincham; and one infant son.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Eileen Arbogast; three grandchildren, Roy Jr. (Angela) Arbogast, Genie Arbogast and Sheila (Joel) Money; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may call at Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church Friday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, the service hour, with Pastor Randy Long officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Little Arlington Cemetery in Elkins. From 15 Nov 2007.

Paul R. Arbogast

Paul Robert Arbogast, 90, a resident of Circleville, died Oct. 4, 2007, in Loyalton of Harrisonburg, Harrisonburg, Va.

He was born May 17, 1917, at Circleville, a son of the late Truman “Buzz” Arbogast and Eva Mae Simmons Arbogast.

On Aug. 13, 1943, he was married to Izetta Jewell Canfield Arbogast, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Patricia Ann Wilkins of Harrison burg, Va., Joan Marie McConnell of Circleville and Debra Ruth Lucas of Vinton, Va.; one son, James Paul Arbogast of Seneca Rocks; one sister, Nila Good of Timberville, Va.; two brothers, David Arbogast and Ralph Arbogast of Circleville; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Price Arbogast; and two sisters, Irma Propst Day and Mary Judy Harper.

He was a retired farmer, retired scales operator for Germany Valley Lime Co., former deputy assessor for Pendleton County and a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Circleville High School with the class of 1940. He was a member of North Fork Apostolic Church.

Ruth P. Arbogast, 88, a resident of Valley Head, passed away at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center where she was a patient.

She was born Oct. 9, 1918, at Mingo, a daughter of the late Earnest Perry Ware and Kate Wood Ware.

She was married to Orval Dexter Arbogast, who preceded her in death on April 12, 1991.

She is survived by two sons, Roger Arbogast and wife, Vicki, of Valley Head, with whom she made her home for the past eight years, and Troy Arbogast of Maryland; and one son-in-law, Robert Davidson. Two brothers, Don Ware of Paynesville, Ohio, and Ray Ware of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Victoria Rogers, Debra and Vernon Louk, Jeremy, Jody and Jedidiah Arbogast; and two great-grandchildren, Whitney and Jonathon Arbogast also survive.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Maxine Ruth Davidson; brothers, Okey, Ola and Conway Ware; and one sister, Daisy Arbogast.

Mrs. Arbogast was a homemaker and a member of Valley Head United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Beulah Mae Hamblin Armentrout, 84, a former resident of 109 Locust St. in Belington and more recently a resident of Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, departed this life at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2007, in the care center. She had been in declining health for the past several months.

She was born Sept. 19, 1922, at Dublin, Va., a daughter of the late Stewart and Emma Hamblin.

On July 25, 1941, at Radford, Va., she was united in marriage to Melvin Paul Armentrout, who preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 2006.

Mrs. Armentrout is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Phillips of Belington and Bonnie Cox of Elkins; one sister, Maude Caldwell of Radford, Va.; sisters-in-law, Betty Dolly and husband, Gene, Bernice Haller, Imogene Everson and husband, Fred, Kathleen Wilmoth, Lucille Armentrout, Edith Trozzo and Nellie Digman. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Victor Phillips, Allen Phillips and wife, Lisa, Billy Cox and wife, Frances, Richard Cox and wife, Mary Beth, David Cox, Shelly Canfield and husband, Eric, and Kelly Carpenter and husband, Ronny; eight great-grandchildren; and her loving pet cat, “Sassy.”

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Hamblin and Albert Hamblin; one sister, Ruby Hamblin; and two sons-in-law, Ralph Cox Sr. and Neil Phillips.

Mrs. Armentrout attended the schools of Bell Spring, Va., and was a former member of Belington Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In her former years along with her husband, Melvin, the couple worked with the Cub Scouts as den leaders. She was a homemaker and was a member of Westside United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home at 210 Brandenburg St. in Belington today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Dorothy Armentrout

Dorothy Ellen Grow Armentrout, 85, a resident of Holly Meadows community, Parsons, departed this life Friday evening, July 13, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Monday, May 25, 1922, at Thomas, a daughter of the late Earnest Earl Grow and Blanche Elizabeth Perks Grow.

On June 15, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Melvin Glen Armentrout, who preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1999.

Surviving are one son, Robert Earl "Bob" Armentrout and wife, "Beni" of Elkins; two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Shipp and husband, Robert, and Patricia Dilly and husband, Frank, all of Holly Meadows; one brother, William Grow of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Knotts of Parsons and Margaret Roy of Hambleton; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Earl Grow and Harry Grow; and two sisters, Georgia Dumire and Mary Dougherty.

She was a graduate of Thomas High School with the class of 1939. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. John;s United Methodist Church since 1957. She received the Special Mission Recognition Award and the 1996 Mother of the Year Award from the St. John’s United Methodist Women’s Society of which she was a member. She was also a member of the Women’s Sunday School class and served on the kitchen committee for several years. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter 91 Order of the Eastern Star and a past member of the former Liberty Rebekah Lodge 95 of Parsons. Dorothy and her husband, Melvin, are best known for owning and operating Western Auto in Parsons form 1956 to 1966.

The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor today at 1 p.m. The Rev. Billie Glen Armstrong, 83, a resident of St. George, where he made his home with his niece, Priscilla Flanagan and her husband, Jim, passed away at 3:35 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at his residence.

He was born May 27, 1924, at Calloway County, Mo., the only child of the late Milton and Ora E. Deardoff Armstrong. On Aug. 25, 1946, at Las Vegas, Nev., he was married to the former Gloria Clare Nestor, who preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2006.

Billy Joe Arnold Sr., 72, of Buckhannon, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at his home.

He was born Sept. 3, 1934, at Suncrest, a son of the late Alexander Porter Arnold and Francis Irene Wamsley Arnold.

On Nov. 24, 1956, he was married to Shirley Mae Matheny Arnold, who survives at Buckhannon.

Also surviving are three sons, Billy Joe Arnold and wife, Cheryl, of Buckhannon, Kelly W. Arnold and wife, Melinda, of Rock Cave and Jerry L. Arnold and wife, Dawn, of French Creek; one daughter, Crystal D. Brown of Buckhannon; five grandsons, Kevin Arnold of Rock Cave, Joseph Arnold, Nicholas Arnold and Steven Brown, all of Buckhannon, and Dakota Arnold of French Creek; four granddaughters, Marlana Ringer and husband, Josh, Shanda Orsburn and husband, Matthew, and Megan Arnold, all of Buckhannon, and Shayla Arnold of French Creek; one great-grandson, Nathaniel Ringer of Buckhannon; two great-granddaughters, Cadence Ringer and Rhianna Orsburn, both of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one son, William Joseph Arnold; four brothers and two sisters.

He was a construction worker and attended Rock Cave Baptist Church. He was a member of Banks Volunteer Fire Department.

Ms. Patricia Jo Moore Arthur, 68, a resident of 201 Third St., Belington, departed this life at 7:40 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2007, in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born April 11, 1939, at Junior, the daughter of late Russell C. “Perky” Moore and Dorothy Louise Simmons Moore, who survives at Belington.

In addition to her mother, Ms. Moore is survived by two sons, George “Eddie” Moore of Lakeland, Fla., and Scott Wetmore of Belington; and one grandson Nicolas Moore of Lakeland, Fla.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one infant son.

She attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of Belington High School. She was formerly employed as a secretary for the U.S. government at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and was also a former employee of National Geographic. She enjoyed reading and crocheting

Upon the request of the deceased, Ms. Arthur’s remains will be cremated. Her cremains will be interred in Belington Fraternal Cemetery at a later date. Sarah Ann Ashby, 31, of Thomas, passed away March 8, 2007, at her home.

She was born April 22, 1975, at Elkins, a daughter of Junior E. Howell and the late Prudence Ann Scallon Howell.

Survivors include husband, Gregory John Ashby; son, Travis Waylon Ashby; daughters, Claudia Ann Ashby, Dominique Paige Ashby and Xzandra Aaliyah Ashby; father-in-law, Ellis Ashby Jr. of Thomas; and grandmother-in-law, Helen Joyce Ziesemer of St. George.

Sarah was a housewife and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.

Grace Beatrice Ayers, 87, formerly of Aurora and East McKeesport, Pa., died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Scalabrini Villa, North Kingstown, R.I.

She was born Nov. 19, 1919, at Aurora, a daughter of the late George and Ada Teets Wotring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy A. Ayers.

She is survived by two sons, Truman A. Ayers, Rising Sun, Md., and Randall B. Ayers, Warwick, R.I.; one daughter, Anna May Sisler, Aurora; one brother, William Wotring, Arthurdale; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ayers worked as a housekeeper and was involved with the Cornerstone Adult Day Care.

James E. Aylestock

James Edwin Aylestock, 88, of Clarksburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in United Hospital Center at Clarksburg.

He was born April 10, 1919, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Parley S. Aylestock and Nola Gould Aylestock.

On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Brenice Tyde Riggs Aylestock, who survives in Clarksburg.

Also surviving are two sons, Larry A. Aylestock and wife, Janet F., of Buckhannon and Bernard L. Aylestock and wife, Cathy B., of Buffalo Lake Road; one daughter, Charlotte A. Simmons and husband, Glenn, of Lutherville, Md.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Aylestock and Woody Aylestock of West Virginia and Harold Aylestock of Virginia; three sisters, Levaune Bourne, Natalie Lawson and Anna Mae Young, all of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dewain L. Aylestock; five brothers; and three sisters.

He was a retired Monongahela Power Co. lineman, with 34 years of service. He attended the Evangelical Congregational Church, Oak Mound, Clarksburg, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in Ireland, England and France. Mr. Aylestock was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received near Brest, France. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp.
