Marada V. Waddell
Marada V. Waddell, 96, a resident of Barbour County Good Samaritan and a former
resident of 112 Maple Ave. in Philippi, was pronounced dead Monday, March 21,
2005, at Broaddus Hospital emergency room.
She was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Jess and Alma
Cole Vannoy.
She was united in marriage June 12, 1936, to Richard Waddell, who preceded her
in death in 1946.
Surviving are one son, Richard Waddell and wife, Nancy, of Ocean City, N.J.; and
one granddaughter, Amy Bell of Nashville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
She was employed by the Barbour County school system and in 1972, retired from
Philippi Elementary School as a second grade teacher. She was a member of the
retired teacher association, a member of PEO and a member of Philippi Baptist
Church. She was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College and completed graduate
work at Ohio State University.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi
Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Dean
Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Raymond W. Wagner
Raymond W. Wagner, 85, a resident of Buckhannon, the Mt. Nebo community, died
Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1920, at Volga, a son of the late William W. and Lavina
“Dade” Harris Wagner.
Surviving are one brother, Robert Stanley Wagner of Buckhannon; four sisters,
Joanne Thompson of Huttonsville and Kathleen Aul, Betty Pierce and Wanda
Bennett, all of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Clifford Wagner and Wilbert
Wagner; and one sister, Marie Wright.
He was a sawmill operator and a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church.
Viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral
Chapel. He will lie in state at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church Sunday from 1
p.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Harold Langevin Jr. will officiate
and interment will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral

Sara Talbott “Sally” Wagner, 96, a former resident of 1018 S. Kerens Ave.,
Elkins, and more recently a resident of Colonial Place, Elkins, departed this
life early Wednesday evening, Jan. 19, 2005, at Colonial Place. She had been in
declining health.

Sara Evelyn Talbott “Sally” Wagner, 96, a former resident of 1018 S. Kerens
Ave., Elkins, and more recently a resident of Colonial Place, departed this life
Wednesday evening, Jan. 19, 2005, at Colonial Place. She had been in declining
health.
She was born Sunday, May 3, 1908, at Tallmansville, a daughter of the late Dr.
Lewis Wilson Talbott and Mary Evelyn Bosworth Talbott.
On May 31, 1929, at Beverly, she was married to Alvin Herbert “Chief”
Wagner, who preceded her in death March 24, 1999. Surviving are one daughter,
Sara Virginia Wagner Schnably and husband, Charles, of Wilmington, Del.; one
grandson, Robert Wagner Schnably, of Charles Town; two great-granddaughters,
Cynthia B. and Sara K. Schnably; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were four brothers, Dr.
Richard Bosworth Talbott, William Brown Talbott, Lewis Wilson “Doc” Talbott
Jr. and James Newton Talbott; and one sister, Virginia Katherine Talbott Pierce.
She was a member of the Randolph Chapter 74, Order of the Eastern Star, where
she had served as Past Matron, had held a state office and had received her
50-year pin. She was a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Reatha I. Wagoner
Reatha Irene Wagoner, 83, a resident of Route 3, Box 292C, Buckhannon, died
Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 30, 1921, at Alton, a daughter of the late Joseph Lewis and
Nola Cutright Lewis.
On Jan. 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to the late Clifford R. Wagoner,
who preceded in death July 4, 1991.
She is survived by five daughters, Brenda Carpenter and husband, Trever, of
Queens, Joy Kendall and husband, Charles, Jewel Reed, Justine Wamsley and
husband, George, and Treasea Crites and husband, Tom, all of Buckhannon; one
son, Jerry Clifford Wagoner of Queens; one sister, Imogene Lewis of Buckhannon;
three brothers, Stanley Lewis of Warren, Ohio, Hayward Lewis and Donald Lewis,
both of Buckhannon; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son,
Larry Darwin Wagoner; one brother, the Rev. S.E. Lewis; and one granddaughter,
Melissa Crites Butler.
She was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral
Home Inc. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel
with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow at Cutright Chapel

Jack Wallace
John J. Wallace III, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in Richmond, Va.
Jack was born March 26, 1930, in Elkins, the son of the late Nancy Unger Wallace
and John J. Wallace Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Joyce Evans Wallace;
sons, J. Michael Wallace of Columbus, Ohio, and Stewart U. Wallace of Charlotte,
N.C.; daughter, Nancy Wallace Tazewell of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Joseph A.
Wallace of Elkins; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jack attended Elkins High School where he was a three-sport letterman and a
sectional, regional and West Virginia First Team All-State basketball player and
First Team Basketball All-State Tournament player, both as a junior. In track,
he broke all of the records previously set by his father. In football at age 15,
he was the starting end on Elkins High School’s only undefeated, untied 1945
football team.
He accepted a full scholarship from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa.,
from which he graduated and where he starred in three sports, competing in track
against former Olympic champion Bob Mathias, among others. He was elected
president of his class, received the Headmaster’s Prize and the Yale Aurelian
Award for leadership and character. Jack was recruited by many universities. He
accepted a full scholarship for basketball and graduated from the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, he was elected co-captain of the Tarheel
basketball team and selected to the North Carolina University and College 1952
All-State Team.
In 2004, he was invited back to Chapel Hill and honored by Tarheel basketball
coach Roy Williams. He served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps
during the Korean War.
He retired from E.I. DuPont after 40 years of managerial assignments throughout
the Southeast and in Europe. He managed operations for industrial Nylon, Kevlar,
Nomex, Tyvek and Teflon and supervised the construction of the first Kevlar and
Tyvek plants.
Throughout his life, Jack was a leader of men setting the highest example of
courage and integrity to all who knew him. He was a devoted son, brother,
husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend, all of whom he loved generously.

Richard R. Walton
Richard R. “Dick” Walton, 90, of Kanawha Head, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at
St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born June 14, 1914, in Upshur County, a son of the late Bernard and Dora
Riley Walton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nealy B. Walton, who died Feb. 28, 2004.
He is survived by one daughter, Glennia Crawford and husband, Kenneth, of
Kanawha Head; three sons, Bazil “Tom” Walton and wife, Joybelle, of French
Creek, Denzil Walton and wife, Regina, of Chipley, Fla., and Robert Keith Walton
and wife, Louise, of Kanawha Head; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren
and six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Snyder and Opal Hammond,
both of Ohio; three brothers, Hayes Walton of Michigan, Charles Walton of Ohio
and Willard Walton of Kanawha Head; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Mr. Walton was a retired bus driver for the Upshur County Board of Education. He
attended the Oak Grove United Methodist Church at Kanawha Head.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Funeral services
will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel
with the Rev. Russell Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak

Carl W. Wamsley
Carl Wayne Wamsley, 46, a former resident of Lavalette Ave., Elkins, passed away
at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the home of his mother, Noami Wamsley in
Elkins.
He was born Jan. 3, 1959, in Elkins, a son of Naomi Kayes Wamsley of Elkins and
the late Robert W. Wamsley.
Surviving are a son, Justin Wayne Wamsley of Lake City, Fla.; a brother, Robert
Wamsley of Elkins; and six sisters, Diana Sisler of Lexington, Ky., Patsy Hite
of Buckhannon, Donna Forinash of Valley Bend, Joyce Nice of Capon Bridge and
Connie Smith and Beverly Jackson, both of Elkins.
Carl attended the schools of Randolph County. He was employed as a carpenter for
Schleer Builders for several years and worked on numerous projects in the Elkins
and Randolph County areas. He was Methodist by faith.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. Memorial

Gary L. Wamsley
Gary Lee Wamsley, 59, of Seville, Ohio, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Medina
General Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 26, 1946, at home at Sand Run, Buckhannon, a son of Lloyd and
Edna Clark Wamsley.
Gary was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He worked at
Westinghouse for many years until it closed, then went to Volvo in Orrville,
Ohio, until his illness.
Gary is survived by his wife, Annie Wamsley, of Seville, Ohio; sons, Willie and
Gary Lee Wamsley of Mansfield, Ohio; daughters, Patricia Wamsley of Shenandoah,
Ohio, and Lisa Leguillon, at home; grandchildren, Myranda and Mason of
Shenandoah; brothers, Mike Hefner of Marlinton and Stephen Hefner of Arlington,
Va.; sisters, Helen Layman and Freda Jackson of Marlinton; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Wamsley and Edna Mae Clark
Wamsley Hefner; stepfather, Fred Hefner; brother, Freddie Hefner; sister,
Patricia Hefner; and cousin, Mark Pifer.
At his request, cremation has taken place with no services. Memorial

Naomi Gay Gutshall Wamsley, 88, a former resident of Elkins and more recently a
resident of 18 Greenwood Place, Indian Head, Md., departed this life Friday Jan.
7, 2005, at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
She was born Tue., May 16, 1916, at Mustoe, Va., a daughter of the late John
Willie Gutshall and Minnie Gay Gillespie Gutshall.
On June 5, 1938, at Elkins, she was married to Carl Edward Wamsley, who preceded
her in death May 5, 1969.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis E. Wamsley and wife, Barbara, of Indian Head,
Md., and Donald E. Wamsley of Accokeek, Md.; one daughter, Dyneene E. Dutton and
husband, Richard, of White Plains, Md.; one sister, Evelyn Gutshall McBee of
Philippi; four grandchildren, Keith Dutton, Holly Dutton, Donald Wamsley and
Chris Wamsley; and two great-grandchildren, Marissa Dutton and Brian Wamsley.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were three brothers,
Clarence, Harry and Charles Gutshall; and one sister, Willo Gutshall Doyle.
She succeeded in raising a wonderful family who loved her dearly. Yet, it was
her wise advice, given only when asked, and her welcome nature to many younger
people, such as her daughter-in-law, which will make her deeply missed not only
by her family but also by many others. She was a homemaker and a Methodist by
faith.

Virginia Ruth Wamsley, 73, a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center,
passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 23, 2005, at the center.
She was born Aug. 9, 1931, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Genus Wamsley
and Mary Belle Pingley Wamsley.
She was never married.
Surviving are two brothers, Willard and Denver Wamsley, both of Mill Creek; one
sister, Mary Mallard of Kinston, N.C.; and six nieces and two nephews.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Earnest and Wilson Wamsley.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Wamsley Cemetery near

B. Darl Ware
Boyd Darl Ware, 67, of Audra Road, Belington, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Decatur,
Tenn., following an extended illness.
He was born May 5, 1937, at Belington, a son of the late Lorenzy Wilbert and
Veroniscia Mabel McCauley Ware.
On June 30, 1957, he married the former Emma Lou Weese, who preceded him in
death April 10, 1992.
Surviving are one daughter, Emma Darlene “Winkle” Farris and husband, Dan,
of Decatur, Tenn.; three sons, Darl Lee Ware and wife, Carol, of Woodland, Pa.,
Wilbert “Pokey” Ware and wife, Sandy, of Decatur, Tenn., and Vernon Dale
“Squeak” Ware and wife, Lynn, of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn.; one brother,
Stanley Delmas Ware and wife, Ruby, of Belington; special friends, Bob and Ruth
Ann Moore and family of Belington; an aunt, Wanda Mitchell of Belington; an
uncle, Woodrow McCauley of Elkins; a special nephew, Christopher D. Ware, of
Parksville, Md.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Wilbert Eldon Ware, and one
grandson, Jeremy Dewight Ware.
Mr. Ware was a retired lumber sorter and was a former employee of Ware Sawmill
and Dingess Lumber Co. He was Pentecostal by faith and was always willing to
help neighbors and strangers alike who were in need of help.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel,
609 Crim Ave., Belington, at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Destry Daniels and
the Rev. David A. Brady officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord
Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. today
and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is

David A. Ware
David Allan Ware, 47, a native of Randolph County and a resident of Christiana,
Pa., departed this life Monday morning, May 9, 2005, at Quarryville, Pa. Death
was unexpected and attributed to cardiac arrest.
He was born Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1958, at Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Otis J. Ware
and Audrey Swecker Ware, who survive at Atglen, Pa.
Also surviving are three brothers, Larry Ware of Christiana, Pa., Daniel Ware
and wife, Alexis, of Strasburg, Pa., and Eric Ware and wife, Kim, of Paradise,
Pa.; one sister, Lisa Becker of Quarryville, Pa.; five nieces and one nephew.
He was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1976, was an
independent contractor delivering newspapers for Lancaster Newspapers and
enjoyed bowling.

Delmas C. Ware
Delmas Charles “Shorty” Ware, 64, of Parkwood Drive, Buckhannon, died
Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at his home.
He was born Feb. 9, 1941, at Hacker Valley, a son of Nelson Ware and the late
Lovie Barbe Ware.
He was united in marriage Dec. 22, 1961, to Dorthea Jean Lane Ware, who
survives.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one son, Thomas “T.J.” Ware
of Reedsville; one daughter, Tammy Brown of Hacker Valley; one granddaughter,
Asasha Brown of Hacker Valley; and one sister, Lela Pugh of French Creek.
Mr. Ware was the owner and operator of Ware Lumber and Fence Co.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Tuesday from 5
p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at the
funeral chapel with the Rev. Chris Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in

Gisela Ware
Gisela Ware, 75, a resident of Lake Station, Ind., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005,
at Community Hospital in Munster, Ind.
She was born April 29, 1929, in Berschweiler, Germany.
She was married to the late Cecil Y. Ware.
Surviving are her beloved daughter, Carmen Ware of Schereville, Ind.; two
sisters, Erika Staudte and Wanda Jungbluth; one brother, Franz Klos, all of
Germany; and many nieces and nephews and loving friends, both here and abroad.
She was preceded in death by one infant son, Cecil Peter Ware; one sister, Anni
Bach; and one brother, Bernhard Klos.
Mrs. Ware came to the United States in 1959 and became a proud American citizen
in 1963. She resided in Lake Station, Ind. since 1966 and retired from the City
of Lake Station. She also worked the voting polls at every election and was a
member of the American Legion Auxiliary Lake Station Post 100. She was an avid
and excellent gardener. Most of all, she was a very generous and caring person
with a wonderful feisty spirit who had a great sense of humor.
Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at Geisen Funeral Home in
Merrillville, Ind., with the Rev. Geraldine Colvin officiating. Graveside
services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Upshur County Memorial Park in
Tennerton with the Rev. Randy Huges officiating. Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral
Chapel of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements for Gisela Ware.

Lovie P. Ware
Lovie Pearl Ware, 85, a resident of French Creek, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005,
at her home.
She was born Dec. 7, 1919, at Hacker Valley, a daughter of the late Newt and
Virgie Claypoole Barbe.
She was married to Nelson D. Ware, who survives, for 67 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Delmas “Shorty” Ware
and wife, Jean, of Tennerton; one daughter, Lela Pugh of French Creek; five
grandchildren, Tim Pugh and Shawn Pugh and wife, Cindy, all of French Creek, T.J.

Mary Elizabeth Ware, 70, a resident of Warren, Ohio, passed away, Tuesday, Feb.
15, 2005.
She was born March 17, 1934, in Elkwater, a daughter of the late Aldridge N.
Channell and the late Bertie M. Harris.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Ralph L. Ware, with whom she shared the
same birthday, March 17. She also will be deeply missed by two daughters, Mrs.
Robert (Ruth) Long of Warren, Ohio, and Tamara Bell of Cortland, Ohio; one son,
Lloyd Ware and wife, Julie, of Warren, Ohio; two brothers, Lehman and Nelson
Channell; three sisters, Ruth Shepherd, Lenora Takach and Joy Porter; and 11
grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Ralph N. Ware; two sisters, Ava and
Dorothy; and three brothers, John, Fred and Arling Channell.
Mrs. Ware was a Sunday school teacher at the Free Methodist Church for many
years and had recently attended North-Mar Church of the Christian and Missionary
Alliance. She enjoyed reading the Bible and was an active Prayer Warrior. Mary
also was active for many years with the Good News Gospel Singers.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral
Home with the Rev. Robert Long officiating. Interment followed in Hillside

She was married to Walker Gay Ware, who preceded her in death in 1970.
She is survived by one daughter, Ina Mae Ware See of Westland, Mich.; five
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Verna Jean Ware, 78, a resident of Pleasant Avenue, Elkins, passed away at 7
a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2005, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Clay County, a daughter of the late James E.
Cooke and Hattie Reed Cooke.
On July 6, 1950, at Clarksburg, she was married to Chester Edward Ware, who
preceded her in death July 2, 2000.
She is survived by one son, James Burch of Duncan Falls, Ohio; two daughters,
Mary K. Ware of Pleasant Avenue, with whom Mrs. Ware made her home, and Linda K.
Ware Coberly of Rainbow Estates; one stepson, Charles Ware of Valley Bend; three
stepdaughters, Judy, Nancy and Cora Phares; and several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Theresa Ware, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ware was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and the Elkins YMCA.
She loved attending church at the Elkins Church of the Brethren where she was a
member. She enjoyed attending community events in the Elkins area.

Gretta Mae Warner, 88, a resident of Snowy Mountain Road, Cherry Grove, died
Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Grant Memorial Hospital
She was born Oct. 6, 1916, at Dry Run, a daughter of the late Mike and Fannie
Mae Waybright.
On June 20, 1939, she married Russell M. Warner, who preceded her in death May
25, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances Ellen von Schilling of Cherry Grove and
Sherry Lee Pillow and husband, Dennis, of Warrenton, Va.; one brother, Junior
Waybright of Palmyra, Pa.; one grandson, Adrian Sean Pillow and wife, Heather;
and two great-grandchildren, Susan Lily and Maxwell Wilson Pillow.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Dwight, Joseph and Jason
Waybright; and four sisters, Evelyn Rexrode, Ethel Colaw, Gaitha Bell and Marie
Waybright.
She graduated from Circleville High School with the class of 1937 and was a
homemaker. She had been a member of Community Educational Outreach Service since
1942 and an honorary member since 1992. She was a past president of North Dry
Run Home Demonstration Club. She was honored as Pendleton County Belle in 1987.
Since 1966, she had been a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 138. She was
a member of North Dry Run United Methodist Church, where she had served a
superintendent and secretary/treasurer.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Basagic Funeral Home.
Eastern Star Chapter 138 will hold services at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be
Sunday at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stanley Kile and
Mike Lambert officiating. Interment will follow at North Fork Cemetery. The

Lee Roy Warner, 76, a resident of Arthur, died Dec. 17, 2005, in Grant Memorial
Hospital in Petersburg.
He was born Jan. 16, 1929, at Cherry Grove, a son of the late Elmer Warner and
Mary Bennett Warner Goldizen.
He was married to Phyllis Wratchford, who survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Brenda Lamb and the late William Lamb of
Pamplin, Va., Pamela Smith and husband, Richard, of Capon Bridge, Catherine Ours
and husband, Rickie, of Moorefield and Carol Meade and husband, Jeff, of Myrtle
Beach, S.C.; four sons, Terry Warner and wife, Leanne, of Burlington, Gary
Warner and wife, Kathy, Randy Warner and wife, Donna, and Roger Warner and wife,
Shirley, all of Arthur; one sister, Betty Watts of Franklin; one brother, Brad
Teter of Muncy, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also
preceding him in death were one grandson, Michael Warner; one brother, Delton
Warner; and one sister, Madaline Bland.
He was a retired farmer. He had served with the U.S. Army in Korea and received
a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of National Plott Hunters Association
and an avid bear hunter. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6454
and Disabled American Veterans 29.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today

Lewis W. Watson
Lewis William Watson, 91, of 195 Second St., Jane Lew, departed his earthly home
Friday, Aug. 5, 2005.
He was born Oct. 6, 1913, on Cabin Creek, Doddridge County, a son of the late
Henry Carl and Ruby Zinn Watson.
On April 29, 1935, he married the former Emma Pearl Cunningham, who died June
25, 2000, after 65 years of marriage.
He is survived by four children, Delford Watson and wife, Marguerite, of Lorain,
Ohio; Elouise “Elly” Mick of Weston; Beth Ann Francis and husband, Jerry, of
Jane Lew; and Larry Watson and wife, Loretta, of Buckhannon; six grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by one sister, Nancy Curry of Harrisville; a stepbrother,
Henry Carl Watson Jr. of Jane Lew; and a stepsister, Linda Foster of Jane Lew.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Zelma Watson, and a stepsister, Ella
May Watson.
Mr. Watson was retired from the Consolidated Natural Gas Co. as a group leader
with 32 years and six months of service.
He was mayor of Jane Lew for two terms and served four years in the Silver Hair
Legislature, Scout Master Troop 74, served on the Jane Lew Water Board, was a
constable for Hackers Creek for two years and was a first aid instructor for
Consolidated Gas Co. for 24 years.
He served as a member of the Jane Lew Lions Club for more than 50 years, was
Lewis Countian of the Year for 1985-1986, forest fire warden for Hackers Creek
District for four years and served 17 years on Region 7, Buckhannon.
He was an avid coin collector, hunter and fisherman, especially enjoying trips
to Canada.
Mr. Watson began his membership at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church on Nov.
14, 1982. The last few years, he attended Grace Baptist Temple in Jane Lew.

Maxine C. Wayne, 81, of Cowen and a resident of the Pocahontas
Continuous Care Center, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, in Marlinton.
Born Dec. 20, 1924, in Wainville, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and
Lela Green Goff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Wayne Sr.; a daughter, Carol
E. Wayne; and a sister, Geraldine Hickman Wood.
She was a member of the Cowen Rebekah Lodge and the Webster County Retired
Teachers Association. She was a former store clerk for Case’s Store and
Blake’s Store and a teacher’s aide at Glade Elementary School in Cowen. Mrs.
Wayne was also a homemaker and a school cook for the Webster County Board of
Education. She attended Halo United Methodist Church and she was an avid quilter.
Surviving are daughters and their husbands, Donice and Charles McElwain and June
and Paul Bennett, all of Cowen; sons and their wives, John L. Jr. and Alesia
Wayne, Jeffrey and Lori Wayne, all of Arbovale, and Paul and Maureen Wayne of
Port Orford, Ore.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Adams-Reed Funeral Home in
Cowen with the Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Burial was in the West Virginia

Thomas F. Weaver Jr., 72, a resident of Buckhannon, died at 6:55 a.m. Thursday,
Sept. 1, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born January 30, 1933, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Thomas F. Weaver
Sr. and Mabel B. Hinchman Weaver.
On Dec. 12, 1953, he was married to Clara Nell Rush Weaver, who survives in
Buckhannon.

Pickerington, Ohio and Russell L. “Rusty” Weaver and wife, Linda, of French
Creek; one brother, Robert H. Weaver and wife, Jan, of Stevens Point, Wis.; one

Lora Elizabeth Webster, 87, a resident of Fordsville Nursing Home in Fordsville,

She was born March 30, 1918, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Charlie and
Neva Sabatino Bolyard.
She was united in marriage Aug. 8, 1936, to Branson “Banks” Webster, who
preceded her in death Feb. 29, 2004.
Surviving are three daughters, Hazel Marie Lowther and husband, Danny, Louise
May Westlake and Diana Christina Bartlett and husband, Allen Perkins; two sons,

She was born Friday, Feb. 18, 1910, at Belington, a daughter of the late Grant
Shaw and Nancy Bonner Shaw. She was raised by Lemuel and Aminda Poling.
On Dec. 23, 1932, at the Woodford Memorial United Church in Elkins, she was
married to Chester Weese Sr., who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter-in-law, Okareta “Rita” Weese-Blake of Linden,
Va.; three granddaughters, Joanie Sullins of Berkeley Springs, Brenda Alvarado
of Elkins and Kareta “Kitty” Weese of CoCo Beach, Fla.; seven
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one son, Chester
Weese Jr., four brothers and three sisters.
Carrie was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1932, had worked
as a clerk for the G.C. Murphy Co., was a member of the Elkins-Randolph County
Senior Center, where she was a member of the Melody Chorus, the Delphia Rebekah
Lodge 62 and was the 1985 Belle of Randolph County. She was a member of
Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Mr. Ernest M. Weese, 83, a resident of Route 2, Belington, departed this life at
11:15 p.m. Monday evening, Oct. 3, 2005, at the Talbott Personal Care Home in
Belington following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 11, 1922, at Montrose, a son of the late Eligah and Lennie
Moore Weese.
On Sept. 16, 1950, at Belington, he was united in marriage to the former Elsie
Marie Phillips, who preceded him in death Oct. 10, 2003.
He is survived by one daughter, Letha Marsh of Ohio; two sisters, Emma Poling
and husband, Otis, of Montrose and Erma Wolford of Elkins; one brother, Earl
Weese and wife, Verda, of Montrose; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers,
Elmer, Ensel and Emory Weese.
Mr. Weese attended the schools of Randolph County, was employed for many years
in the sawmill business, and along with his wife, ran the family farm for many
years. He was a Methodist by faith.

Kenneth D. Weese
Kenneth D. Weese, 85, a resident of Maplewood Drive in Elkins, passed away
Friday, May 20, 2005, in the Latrobe Area Hospital, Latrobe, Pa. He had been in
declining health and death was attributed to cancer and congestive heart
failure.
He was born July 30, 1919, in Meadowville, a son of the late Stephen and Jane
Godwin Weese.
On Feb. 1, 1943, he was married to Amelia Pauline Arbogast Weese, who survives.
Mr. and Mrs. Weese celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2005.
Also surviving are one son, Benjamin "Ben" Weese and wife, Mary
Grandusky Weese, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Carol Sue Weese
Plummer and husband, Dr. Richard Plummer, of Greensburg, Pa.; five
grandchildren, Jeffery Weese and wife, Elizabeth, of Boise, Idaho, Kevin Weese
and wife, Becky, of Monument, Colo., Susan Weese of Colorado Springs, Colo., and
Megan Plummer and Jill Plummer of Greensburg, Pa. He is also survived by three
great-grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Samantha Weese; two sisters, Reta Weese
McElwee of New Brighton, Pa., and Ruth Weese Biller of Elkins; two
stepgranddaughters, Barbie Plummer and Joanne Plummer Kreinbrook and husband,
Eric Kreinbrook; and two stepgreat- granddaughters, Hannah and Gabby Kreinbrook.
Mr. Weese was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Weese.
Mr. Weese was a graduate of Elkins High School and a veteran of World War II
having served four years for his country in the 4th Division, 22 Infantry, and
the Normandy Invasion, June 7, 1944. He was wounded twice and was awarded the
Purple Heart and the Oak Leaf Cluster for his injuries. Mr. Weese was a rural

Rosa Ellen Weese, 87, a resident of Beverly, passed away at 6:40 p.m. Saturday,
May 7, 2005, in Valley Head.
She was born on June 7, 1917, in Valley Head, a daughter of the late Marvin
Jesse and Zeddie Hamrick Simmons.
On Dec. 21, 1958, at Youngstown, Ohio, she was married to Elam B. Weese, who
preceded her in death.
Surviving are one brother, Sherman Simmons of Kansas; one sister, Olive Arbogast
of Mill Creek; one half sister, Lucile Hogan of Ohio; several nieces and nephews
including, Delmas D. Sharp and wife, Shirley, of Valley Head, Roger D. Sharp and
wife, Joan, of Valley Head and Valerie Danzig and husband, Bob, of Elkins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Simmons; one sister, Sylvia Sharp;
one half sister, Jennie Currence; and one half brother, Wilford Simmons.
Mrs. Weese was a homemaker and loved the outdoors and gardening. She was
Methodist by faith.

Wanda Mae Moats Weese, 61, a resident of Stalnaker Run Road, Elkins, departed
this life Tuesday evening, March 8, 2005, at her residence with her family by
her side. She had been in declining health for the past eight months and death
was attributed to cancer.
She was born Monday, July 5, 1943, at Moatsville, a daughter of the late Oda
Benson Moats and Mable Eppie Forman Moats. On Oct. 30, 1964, she was married to
Leo D. Weese, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Leo Timothy Weese of Elkins; one daughter, Cindy
Weese DeMotto of Elkins; one brother, James E. Moats and wife, Alice, of East
Liverpool, Ohio; one sister, Marion Reed of Junior; three grandchildren, Emily
Marie DeMotto, Clarisa Ann Weese and Leo Hunter Weese.
Preceding her in death besides her parents is one brother, Donald R. Moats.
She had attended the schools of Kasson and Belington, and she had graduated from
Elkins High School with the class of 1961. She had worked for Reidboard Brothers
Sewing Factory for 20 years, the Beth Energy division of Bethlehem Steel for
seven years, and Rauer Coal Co. for three years as a motorman. She was a member
of the Primitive Baptist Church at Montrose where she served as secretary. She
had occasionally hunted and fished with her husband, Leo. She loved her children
and grandchildren and was a very good “Mammaw.”

James E. Wegman Sr.
James E. Wegman Sr., 71, a resident of Davenport, Fla., formerly of Newark,
Del., passed away March 9, 2005, at Davenport, Fla.
He was born June 20, 1933, at Elkton, Md., a son of the late Conrad Wegman and
Clara Hufnal Wegman.
He was married to Doris Wegman, who preceded him in death Jan. 25, 2005.
Surviving are two sons, Rickie L. Wegman of Winter Haven, Fla., and James E.
Wegman of Weston; two daughters, Cheryl Padilla of Orlando, Fla., and Kathleen
Wegman of Thornville, Ohio; three brothers; 10 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
He was a shop foreman for Chrysler Corp. for 25 years. He was a veteran of the
Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Hiram Lodge 25
A.F. & A.M. in Newark, Del., the Flotilla 14 Coast Guard Auxiliary in
Newark, Del., Moose Lodge 2083 in Haines City, Fla., and American Legion 34. He
was a Baptist by faith.

Nevie E. Wegman
Nevie Elizabeth Wegman, 83, a resident of the Crystal Springs community, Elkins,
passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, in John Randolph Hospital in Hopewell, Va.
She was born April 12, 1921, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Samuel B. and
Anzian Arbogast Helmick.
She was married to Henry W. Wegman, who preceded her in death in 1970.
Surviving are a daughter, Thelma W. Bender and husband, Bud, of Prince George,
Va., with whom she made her home during the the winter months; three sons,
William Firl Wegman and wife, Bonnie, of Beverly, Randall W. Wegman and wife,
Evelene, of Gradys, Va., and Garnett David Wegman and wife, Delora, of
Chesterfield, Va.; 13 granddaughters, Sandra Harville, Cynthia Kirk, Deloris
Moss, Kimberly Wegman, Bille Jo Kyle, Candy Boone, Cheri Smith, Rhonda Williams,
Kathy Thomas, Tammie Griffin, Robin Amburn, April Anderson and Crystal Duncan;
10 great-granddaughters, Jessica Hunt, Anna Harville, Heather Moss, Stephanie
Williams, Tabitha Smith, Lauren Amburn, Mandy Anderson, Cheyenne Cook, Savannah
Duncan and Toni Thomas; 10 great-grandsons, Wesley Burgess, David Wegman, Ryan
Wegman, Conrad Kirk, Danny Herald, Randy Foster, Danny Boone, Chance Boone,
Taylor Griffin and Oakes Anderson; and two great-great-grandsons, Braden Sumblin
and Aric Hunt.
Nevie was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded
in death by brothers, Elijah, Bruce, Samuel, Sammy, James, Wilbert and Raymond
Helmick; and sisters, Pansy Peters, Bessie Nelson, Ethyl Carver and Alta Helmick.
Nevie was a very compassionate person always helping others before helping
herself. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be very missed by her
children and grandchildren. She retired at age 76 and was always doing
fund-raisers to help all the children in her community. She was a faithful
member of the Crystal Springs Community Church and the Women’s Circle of the
church. She headed a fund-raiser to send children to camp and was instrumental
in getting equipment to start a playground and park. Prior to her illness, she
enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Henry W. “Hank” Weiss, 73, a resident of 1410 S. Davis Ave., Elkins, passed
away Thursday evening, April 7, 2005, at his home.
He was born May 24, 1931, at Washington Township, Wis., a son of the late
William A. and Louise Heinz Weiss.
He was married to Carolyn Lee Lively Weiss, a native of West Virginia, who
survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are a daughter, Helena C. Hendrix of Waynesville, N.C.; and a
sister, Florence Schultze of Reedsburg, Wis.
Mr. Weiss served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea and Vietnam, retiring with
30 years of service. He was awarded the Navy Commendation for service in
Vietnam.
He chose a career in law enforcement and retired in 1994 as police chief of the
Elberta, Ala., Police Department. After his retirement, the Weisses moved to
Andrews, N.C., where he was active in the community volunteering with Meals on
Wheels, Valley River Humane Society, Crop Walk, Adopt a Highway and the Food
Pantry. He served as a member of the board of directors of the Manna Food Bank
and the United Way. He and his wife, Carolyn, moved to Elkins two years ago
where he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Tygart Valley Post
3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Weiss’ remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.

Ova H. Wellman
Ova Harman Wellman, 88, of Huntington, went to meet her Lord and Saviour
Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ova, the daughter of Asa and Elizabeth Harman, was born March 28, 1917, in
Perry, Fla., and spent her early years in Harman. She is survived by her four
children, Peggy, June, Dottie and Tom; six grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Churchill E. Wellman; her brothers,
Blake, Robert, Ted, Jonas and Kermit Harman; and her sisters, Mary Teter, Hisel
Tandski and Josie Mullennex.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., with the funeral following at 11 a.m. Saturday,

He leaves behind three nieces, Andrea W. Vasaune, Katie V. Wells and Kaila W.

Wells served Roanoke College as academic advisor and coordinator of Peer
Tutoring and Special Services. At Bethany College, he had served as director of
Student Services and assistant to the dean of students, and at Davis &
Elkins College as coordinator of the William James Center from 1980-1996. He had
also taught at Huttonsville Prison and Roanoke County Jail. A graduate of
Colorado State University, Wells served in the Army as an assistant at West
Point Military Academy, earned an MA in clinical psychology at West Virginia
University, and finished the coursework for a doctorate in educational
leadership studies. The recipient of numerous awards, he had a passion for
teaching people how to learn and a talent for helping them to move beyond their
limitations. His robustness and joie de vivre, his singing and guitar playing,
his genuine kindness and zany wit touched many lives on the campus and in the
community. People will remember this bearded mountain man whose warm,
mischievous grin invited laughter and inspired love in everyone he met.

Methodist Church, 3385 N. Franklin, Christiansburg. Services were held at the

Earl Wayne Wenger, 64, of Arbovale, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2005.
He was born on June 20, 1940, at Arbovale, a son of the late Earl S. and Ethel
C. Puffenbarger Wenger.
He was preceded in death by his wife Glenna “Jenny” Wenger.
Mr. Wenger is survived by two sisters, JoAnne Cacharko of Baltimore, Md., and
Rhonda Hamed of Roanoke, Va.; one brother, Donald Wenger of Baltimore; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was a lifelong resident of Arbovale and worked for the Department of
Highways. He was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge, Pocahontas County Honor Guard
and the American Legion. He was an Army veteran and was an avid outdoorsman.

Sadie Wentz, 85, a resident of HC 36, Box 391A, Tallmansville, died at 1:30 p.m
Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at her home.
She was born June 12, 1919, at Tallmansville, a daughter of the late Lee Glass
and Nora Reid Glass.
On June 13, 1942, she was married to John Dixon Wentz, who preceded her in death
Sept. 12, 1997.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Dunmire and husband, Harry, and Bonnie
Carr and husband, John, all of Tallmansville, and Christal Stevenson and
husband, Ralph, of Macungie, Pa; four grandsons, Rodney Carr of Guthrie Center,
Iowa, Todd Dunmire of Hurricane, Randy Carr of Tallmansville and Russell
Stevenson of Macungie, Pa.; three granddaughters, Leisa McDaniels and Rachelle
Saunders, both of Westminster, Md., and Emily Stevenson of Macungie, Pa.; five

1960s and 1970s, she was a member of the Democratic Executive Committee of
Upshur County.

Jansen D. Wereley, 88, a resident of Hart Avenue in Buckhannon, died at 3:15
p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at his home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1916, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Edward Wereley and
Eleanor Liggett Wereley.
On Aug. 11, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Arbogast Wereley, who
preceded him in death Feb. 8, 2002.
He is survived by one daughter, Nyla and husband, Thomas Ulanski, of Naples,
Fla.; and one grandson, Bryan Pace of Chicago, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Charles Wereley.
He was the owner of a salvage yard, attended First United Methodist Church and
was a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Disabled
American Veterans Chapter 5.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Poling-St. Clair
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the funeral

Mildred G. Werner
Ms. Mildred Geraldine Werner, 83, a resident of the Audra Road near
Belington, departed this life at 12:10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, in her
family home, where she had lived all of her life and in which she was born. She
had been in declining health for the past month.
She was born Feb. 12, 1922, a daughter of the late Merle and Grace Wagoner
Werner.
She is survived by one nephew, Gary Werner and wife, Kathy, two nieces, Rosa Lee
Plum and husband, Lawrence, and Eva Mae Everson and husband, Howard, all of
Belington. Also surviving are 10 great-nieces and nephews; 15 great-great-
nieces and nephews; one great-great-great-niece; and
one-great-great-great-nephew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Maynard
Werner and and one sister, Yvonne “Bonnie” Werner. She had never married,
and was the last surviving member of her immediate family
Ms. Werner attended the schools of Barbour County and worked on the family farm
most all of her life. Before retirement, she was employed by the bus station in
Belington, also for Yeager’s Variety Store in Belington, and had also been
employed for Reidboard Brothers in Elkins and was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 p.m. to 9
p.m. today and Saturday until 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be
conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Bryan Headley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery near Belington. Talbott Funeral

Charles Edward Westfall, 72, of Buckhannon, departed this life
Tuesday morning, Sept. 20, 2005, in United Hospital Center.
He was born in Clarksburg April 4, 1933, a son of the late Everett F. Westfall
and Virginia Belle Clonch Westfall.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Lucy Knapp Westfall; three daughters, Janet Carr
of Pinella Park, Fla., Carrie Vanscoy of Hepzibah and Helen Darlene Warner of
Buckhannon; six sons, Charles Westfall II, David Westfall of Maryland, Ronald
Westfall of Buckhannon, Michael Westfall of Elkins, Robert Westfall of
Buckhannon and Randy Westfall of Buckhannon; two sisters, Mary Golden of
Clarksburg and Maxine Parsons of Pennsylvania; 18 grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Fenton and Mamie Knapp; and one
brother, Oscar Lee Westfall.
Mr. Westfall previously worked for Cupp’s Furniture, Bauers, Clarksburg Casket
Co. and E & W Hose, where he retired as manager. He served his country in
the Army during 1948-1950.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Davis-Weaver Funeral

Rose I. Westfall, 75, of Route 6, Buckhannon, died Thursday, July 28, 2005,
in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born July 18, 1930, at Canaan, a daughter of the late Jason Huffman and
Dessie England Huffman.
On Nov. 13, 1951, she was married to Oney C. Westfall, who preceded her in death
June 6, 1999.
Surviving are five daughters, Debra and husband, Don Catlin, of Buckhannon,
Karen Sue and husband, George Howell, of Petersburg, Darlene and husband, Bob
Reger, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Patricia and husband, Freddie Smith, of Buckhannon
and Shirley Ann and husband, Fred Woofter, of Buckhannon; two sons, James and
wife, Wilma Westfall, of Buckhannon and Willard and wife, Idella Westfall, of
Harmony; one brother, Arnold Huffman of Buckhannon; one sister, Pauline Shaw of
Brooksville, Fla.; nine grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, four
great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two
brothers, Everett Huffman and Wilmoth Huffman; and six sisters, Beulah Roth,
Ruth Rice, Goldie Shaw, Ruby Carr, Bertie Huffman and Berthie Huffman.
She was a homemaker and retired cook for Aladdin Foods at West Virginia Wesleyan
College. She was Pentecostal by faith.

Delores Wheeler, 58, of Petersburg, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at her
residence.

Alice Deeds White, 83, a resident of Route 4, Buckhannon, died Saturday,
July 2, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Nov. 7, 1921, at Upper Pecks Run, a daughter of the late Oda A.
Queen and Grace Crislip Queen.
One July 25, 1938, she was married to Archie White, who survives at Buckhannon.
Also surviving are one son, Stephen M. White and wife, Ruth, of Grafton; one
daughter, Cindy R. Gooden and husband, Darrel, of Paden City; one nephew,
Kenneth D. Rice, whom she raised, and wife, Debbie, of Buckhannon; one brother,
Teal Queen of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Bernard
and Shelia White; four brothers and three sisters.
She was a homemaker, was a member of Mt. Herman United Methodist Church and the
United Methodist Church Ladies Aid.

Betty “Irene” Dumire White, 75, a resident of St. George, departed this life
Monday morning, May 30, 2005, at her home. She had been in her usual health and
death was unexpected.
She was born Thursday, Feb. 27, 1930, at St. George, a daughter of the late
Elbert Clinton Dumire and Zura Ethel Fitzwater Dumire.
On Sept. 25, 1948, she was married to Dale Brown White, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John Dale White and wife, Diane, of Bell, Fla., and
William David White and wife, Judy, of Middleport, Ohio; four grandchildren,
Shawn Cromer of Georgia, John C. White of Florida, Angie Logan and Amy Young,
both of Ohio; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded
in death by three brothers, Glenn Dumire, Vernon Dumire and Ray Dumire.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School. She was a former employee of the
Tucker County Board of Education as a cook at St. George School. She formerly
attended the Methodist Church at St. George.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today
from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the

Homer P. White, died Monday, March 14, 2005, in Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Montrose, Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife,
Katherine, and daughter, Ruth Ann Oliver.

great-great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of World War II.

Homer Perry White, 91, a former resident of Elkins and a resident of
Lahmansville for the past eight years, where he made his home with his
caretaker, Mary Salman, passed away March 14, 2005, at 1:30 p.m., in the
Veterans Administration hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 18, 1914, in Montrose, he was the son of the late Floranze Auburn
“Orb” and Florence Nora Wolfe White.
In 1950, he was married to Katherine White, who preceded him in death Nov. 29,
1994.
At the request of the deceased, the remains were cremated. Graveside services
will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman. The
Tygart Valley Post 364 Veterans of Foreign Wars and H.W. Daniels Post 29

Lorraine Ann White, 56, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at her
residence.
Born Nov. 1, 1948, in Randolph County, she was the daughter of the late Clair L.

She attended Randolph County Schools and graduated from Elkins High School. She
attended Potomac State College and later graduated from Medical Secretarial
School in San Francisco, Calif. She lived and worked in Alexandria, Va., for
many years. She was a member of the Downtown Baptist Church of Alexandria, Va.,
where she was active in women’s circle groups and sang in the choir.
She is survived by four sisters, Janice Bain-Kerrr, Julia Smail, Ruth Dunleavy
and Jane Ferguson; six nephews; four nieces; and many cousins.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Mountain State
Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Blaugh of the Elkins United Brethren Church will

Phyllis Grace White, 73, a resident of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, March 2,
2005, at the Good Samaritan Home, Belington.
She was born Jan. 31, 1931, at Mayberry Township, Ill., a daughter of the late
Thomas Jasper and Abigaile Hayes Allen.
Surviving are one son, David Lee Jones and wife, Sheri, of Washington; one
daughter, Kim Li Jones and husband, Kendal, of Sumter, S.C.; six grandchildren;
one brother, Darrel Ray Allen of West Virginia; and one nephew, Walter Harvey
Allen, of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
She was a missionary in Hawaii, Arizona, Mexico, Wyoming and Florida, retired as
a missionary with the Southern Baptist and was associated with Buckhannon
Alliance Church. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.

He was a carpenter and a member of Carpenters Local 476 Clarksburg. He served
with the 10th Mountain Infantry in Italy during World War II as a staff
sergeant.

Beatrice Clayton White.

Vada M. White, 74, of Route 2, Buckhannon, died Friday, June 17, 2005, in
Holbrook’s Nursing Home at Buckhannon.

She was married to the late Jack H. White.
Surviving are four sons, Terry Lee White and Tony White, both of Buckhannon,
Jeff White of Fairfax, Va., and Larry Koon of Elkins; and three daughters, Carol

Her husband, Chester Harold Whitehair, preceded her in death June 15, 2001.

Edna L Wiles, 53, of Springfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in the
Mercy Medical Center.
Mrs. Wiles was born July 8, 1951, in Springfield, Ohio, a daughter of the late
Edgar “Ed” and Leora “Jimmy” Mundy.
She was married to Richard J. Wiles in 1968, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Pringles of Brandon, Fla.; three sons,
Edgar, Rick and Matt Wiles, all of Springfield, Ohio; one sister, Mollie Hix and
husband, Mike, of Springfield, Ohio; six grandchildren, Rick, Jake, Courtney,
Tiffany, Robby, and James; one great-grandchild, Jesse; several nieces, nephews,
aunts, uncles, and extended family and friends.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sherry Wiles; and her
fiance, Robert M. Higham.
Mrs. Wiles was a homemaker. She attended Christian Heritage Church. She was a
member of the Daughters of the AMVETS. Edna enjoyed spending time with her
family as well as her late husband’s family in Barbour County.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Richard, Raff
& Dunbar Memorial Home, 838 E. High St., Springfield, Ohio, with Pastor Tim
Young officiating. Interment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery will follow at the

Mr. Mark Edward Wilkins, 48, a resident of Audra Road, Belington, departed this
life, Saturday morning, Aug. 27, 2005, at his residence while recuperating from
a recent surgery.
He was born Dec. 17, 1956, at Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Robert E. and
Grace Conaway Wilkins.
Surviving are one daughter, Michelle Wilkins, and two sons, William and Eric
Wilkins, all of Westover; one brother, Bruce Wilkins, of Westminster, Md.; one
sister, Sharon Campbell, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and his friend and former
wife, Jennie Pringle Wilkins of Westover.
Mr. Wilkins was a graduate of Perry Hall High School in Maryland and a graduate
of West Virginia University and was currently employed as manager of the Coastal
Lumber Treating Plant in the Belington Industrial Park. He was a member of the
Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter K, the American Motor Cycle
Association and attended the Cornerstone Church of Belington, where he had taken
a very active part in the church’s ministry.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. Friends will be
received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Saturday, Sept. 3, from 1 p.m.
to 2 p.m., at which time there will be a memorial service conducted from the

Lina P. Williams
Lina Portia Hogan Williams, 101, a former resident of Elkins, the Friendship
Manor at Morgantown and for the past seven years a resident of Wishing Well
Health Care Center in Fairmont, departed this life Monday afternoon, Nov. 14,
2005, at the nursing home.
She was born Thursday, July 28, 1904, at Point Mountain, a daughter of the late
George Hogan and Tabitha Hogan, who were descendants of the original settlers of
Randolph County. As the 11th of 13 children, she is the last surviving member of
her immediate family.
She was married three times. First, on Dec. 24, 1923, at Elkins, to Sebert
Austin Fisher, who preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1928, from a logging accident;
second, on Oct. 13, 1931, to Sampson Ballard Hamrick, who preceded her in death
July 7, 1934, from a ruptured gall bladder; and lastly, on May 3, 1986, to
Robert Russell Williams, who preceded her in death Nov. 13, 1990, from cancer.
She is survived by one daughter, Pauline Fisher Lantz of Fairmont; three
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Hamrick Hatch.
Lina spent most of her life in the state of West Virginia with the exception of
10 years when she lived in Evanston, Ill. Serving others through her work,
faith, and family life was of primary importance to her. She sought to set an
example by putting her faith into action whether at home or in the community.
Throughout her working life, Lina held a variety of positions in institutions
for both children and the elderly. Anyone who knew Lina would agree that her
faith was uncompromising. It sustained her through a life of tremendous losses
and challenges. Although raised with fundamental, conservative Christian values,
Lina was a pioneer in her role as a working single mother. She was active in
United Methodist churches wherever she lived. Her church community gave her
life-long support and was her extended family.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins
Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be

Zeta G. Williams
Zeta G. Williams, 72, of Gardiner Village, Gardiner, Maine, died Sunday,
Feb. 6, 2005, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine.
She was born Nov. 4, 1932, at Arlington, a daughter of the late Charles P. and
Inzie M. Rice Morris.
Zeta had worked in Hawaii as a supervisor for GEM Jewelry Stores for 2 1/2
years. She relocated to Maine with her husband in 1972 and worked at Ferrell’s
Clothing Store in Augusta, Maine, and for several banks, Augusta Savings, Bank
of Maine, First Consumer’s Bank and Key Bank, from 1972 until retiring in
1992.
Zeta ran a terrific household, raising her family and looking out for their
welfare. She was an excellent military wife and mother. She took care of many
elderly friends, doting and caring for all whom she met. She loved to iron, do
puzzles and play beano.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Morris and one daughter, Shelia
Jean Williams.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles F. Williams of Gardiner,
Maine; four children, Jonathan David Williams and wife, Veronica, of Augusta,
Maine, Dale Edward Williams and wife, Tammy, of Readfield, Maine; Brenda Marie
LeClair and husband, Gregory, of Pittson, Maine, and Shirley Ann Goggin and
husband, Jeffrey, of South China, Maine; three sisters, Kathleen McKisic and
husband, Aubrey, of Crawford, Charleen Haymond of Youngwood, Pa., and her twin,
Zela Haymond of Rock Cave; one sister-in-law, Myrtle Mae Morris of Hinkleville;
10 grandchildren, Wade and Lance Williams, Jessica, Nathan and Megan Williams,
Ryan and Christopher LeClair and Jason, Kevin and Kayla Goggin; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held Feb. 11, 2005, at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner,
Maine. Burial with a committal service will be held in the spring at Maine

Vernon C. Wilmoth, 73, of Rohr Avenue, Buckhannon, died Thursday, Sept. 22,
2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late Robert Lee and
Gladys V. Wood Wilmoth.
He was united in marriage Oct. 17, 1965, to Sarah Hinchman Wilmoth, who survives
in Buckhannon.
He is also survived by three sons, Kenneth Wilmoth of Pinson, Tenn., Glen
Wilmoth of Creston, Ohio, and Ronald Wilmoth of Wadsworth, Ohio. Nine
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
He is also survived by three brothers, Euel Wilmoth of Pensacola, Fla., Robert
Lewis Wilmoth of Charleston and Larry Wilmoth of Ivydale; and two sisters,
Phyllis Noe of Clay and Mary Lou Baker of Lakeport, Fla.; and several nieces and
nephews who loved their Uncle Vernon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Susie
Wilmoth Douglas.
Mr. Wilmoth was retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an
avid bluegrass lover and enjoyed hunting and loved children and his family.

Abigail Dawn Wilson, infant daughter of Brian K. Wilson and Danielle L. Maxson,
went to be an angel with our heavenly father July 18, 2005, at Davis Memorial
Hospital.
She was born Friday, June 17, 2005, in Elkins.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents,
Stephen and Kimberly Maxson of Elkins; her paternal grandparents, Deanna and
David Howell of Beverly and Franklin K. Thornhill of Elkins; great-grandparents,
Bruce and Joyce Borror of Upper Tract and Shirley Wilson of Belington; three
aunts, Trisha, Felisha and Ashley Maxson, all of Elkins; one uncle, Joshua
Thornhill of Beverly; and several great aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Leonard Wilson.
The short time on this Earth, Abigail was very much loved by her parents,
grandparents and great-grandparents, as well as by her aunts and uncles. Our
precious angel will be sadly missed by all that knew her and loved her.

and Betty Lou Reed Wilson.
On May 14, 1987, he was united in marriage to Nancy Grill Wilson, who survives
at Buckhannon.

daughters, Roxanna and husband, Zack Wilson, Beth and husband, Rick Rickman, and

Gene H. Wilson, 85, of Route 6, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at St.
Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born Sept. 19, 1920, at Wilsontown, a son of the late Oscar J. and
Bernice Fidler Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred H. Wilson, and is survived
by his second wife, Juanita Brohard Wilson.
He is also survived by one son, Michael G. Wilson and wife, Pam, of Buckhannon;
one daughter, Lisa W. Seaborn and husband, John, of Richmond, Va.; one stepson,
Joey Reger of Buckhannon; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Anderson of Baltimore,

Nicole Kelly and husband, Christopher, of Monroeville, Pa., Madison Seaborn of

Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Marine Corps
where he was awarded the purple heart and the bronze star. He was retired from
the Upshur County Board of Education where he was director of transportation and
director of the warehouse. Mr. Wilson was a Past Master of Rock Cave Lodge 81,
Past Worthy Patron of Oletha Chapter 82 Order of the Eastern Star of Rock Cave
and a member of Upshur Chapter 34 RAM. He was a member of French Creek Disabled
American Veterans Chapter 36 and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 3663 of Buckhannon.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Heavner &
Cutright Funeral Home. On Friday, Mr. Wilson will be moved to Wilson Chapel
United Methodist Church, where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the

Hobert C. Wilson, 88 of Fayette St., Buckhannon, and formerly of Frenchton, died
Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born June 29, 1916. He was preceded in death by his father and mother
Arthur and Lula Grace Berry Wilson.
He was united in marriage on Dec. 15, 1939, to Oma Mae Bacorn Wilson, who
preceded him in death on June 28, 2004.
He is survived by two sons Kenny Wilson and wife, Kay, of Buckhannon and Bob
Wilson and wife, Pam, of French Creek; one daughter, Connie Wilson and fiance,
Tom Angus, of Buckhannon; six grandchildren, Kim Stepps, Nicole McKisic, Anitra
Peterson, Kevin Hoffman, Linzy Wilson and Thomas Angus; two great-grandchildren,
Charlotte Stepps and Tyler Chase McKisic; five sisters Hildred Sisk of Rock
Cave, Millie Chidester of Abbott, Dora Neely of Rock Cave, Doris Lough of

Juanita “Sam” Wilson, 75, of Red Creek, passed away April 29, 2005, at her
home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Etam, a daughter of the late Ross and Grethel Mae
Davis Funk.
Her husband, Stanley Stanford Plaugher, preceded her in death in 1975.
She is survived by three sons, Stanford L. Plaugher and wife, Barbara, of
Fairview, David Cordell Plaugher and wife, Sheila, of Springfield, Ohio, and
Wayne Curtis Plaugher and wife, Linda, of Bayard; one daughter, Helen Inez White
of Red Creek; one half sister, Ruth Gebeau of Arcadia, Fla.; 10 grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one sister.
Mrs. Wilson worked as a housekeeper at Canaan Valley State Park before retiring.
She was by faith a member of the Church of God.

Vesta G. Wilson, 90, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at her home in Rock
Cave.
She was born March 24, 1915, a daughter of the late James H. and Eva Florence
Long.
She was married to Charles Robert Wilson, who preceded her in death.
She was the beloved mother of seven children, Richard Lynn Wilson and James O.
Wilson, who preceded her in death; Barbara K. Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio, Ronald
G. Wilson and wife, Janet, of Buckhannon, David A. Wilson of Weston, Charles W.
Wilson and wife, Judy, of Weston and Deborah A. Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio. Also
surviving is one sister, Frena Samples and husband, Everett, of Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Junior Long, whose wife, Reta
Long, survives in Buckhannon.
She will also be sadly missed by special friends Agnes Kessler and Josephine
Orlowski. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Jay Wilson, Maureen
(Wilson) Back, Donald Allan Wilson, Roberta (Loudin) Bosak, Richard Alan Loudin,
Kim Swim, Lisa Vey Wilson, David A. Wilson Jr., Charles Seth Wilson and Leigh
Ann Wilson; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Vesta was actively involved in many civic, church and community organizations in
Upshur County, including Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church, charter director
of Tri-County Health Clinic, charter member of Banks District Fire Department
Auxiliary, charter member of Upshur County Fair, 60-year charter member of Rock
Cave CEOS, past matron and member of the Aletha Chapter 82 Order of the Eastern
Star (OES) and a member of the Arlington Social Club, American Legion Auxiliary
Unit 7, Southern Upshur County Business Association and a charter member o
Friends of Fidler’s Mill. She received the West Virginia Division of Culture
and History “Hero” Award in 2001. In 1989, she received SUBA’s Citizen of
the Year Award.
Mrs. Wilson attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and taught school for 18
years. She taught in the last one-room school in Upshur County. She was a member
of the West Virginia and Upshur County Retired Teachers associations and
thoroughly loved teaching school. She will be greatly missed and remain in the
hearts of all who loved her and whose lives she touched.

4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mrs. Wilson will be moved to the Wilson Chapel United Methodist
Church Friday where she will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour,

Grove, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Pendleton Nursing Home in
Franklin.
He was born Oct. 21, 1919, at Cherry Grove, a son of the late Robert E. Wimer
and Lula Nelson Wimer.
Mr. Wimer was united in marriage to Audrey Fern Fleisher, who preceded him in
death June 11, 1997.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Thompson of Winchester, Va., and Wilma
Lambert of Singers Glen, Va.; two sons, William Robert “Billy” Wimer of
Cherry Grove and Denny Gene Wimer of Durbin; 10 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wimer was preceded in death by one grandchild, Rebecca Beth Wimer; two
brothers, Marshall Wimer and Cam Wimer; and one sister, Donna Pitsenbarger.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. Mr. Wimer retired
from the West Virginia Department of Highways in 1981 after 11 years. He was
also a farmer.
Family and friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Basagic
Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the
funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Interment will
follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery where military graveside services will be
conducted by the Pendleton County
