Martha L. Ogden
Martha L. “Martie” Ogden, 64, a resident of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Jan.
25, 2005, at Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 9, 1940 at Adrian, a daughter of the late Willis E. and
Sylvia J. Hawkins Ogden.
Surviving are two sisters, LeVaughn Ward and husband, Donald, of Columbus, Ohio,
and Dolores D. Kasten and husband, Freddie, of Buckhannon; one brother, the Rev.
Richard D. Ogden and wife, Rose, of Hodgesville; four nieces, Barbara Ward,
Kathleen Leigh, Margaret Grenz and Ann Kasten; two nephews, Daniel Kasten and
Richard E. Ogden; several great-nieces and great-nephews and two stepgreat-nieces.
She was preceded in death by one nephew and one great-nephew.
She was a registered nurse and had worked at the Leonard Memorial Hospital in
Buckhannon and the Gassaway Hospital, and was director of nurses at the Sutton
Nursing Home. She was a member of Braxton County Emergency Squad, Veterans of
Foreign Wars, American Legion Auxiliary of Burnsville, the Women of the Moose
319 of Buckhannon and Upshur County React. She was a member of Kanawha Run
United Methodist Church and was very active in her church work before her
illness.
Friends will be received Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tomblyn-Whitescarver
Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Dan Lowther and the Rev. Ressie Robison officiating.
Interment will follow in Hinkleville Cemetery. Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral
Chapel of Buckhannon is in charge of the arrangements for Martha L. “Martie”

Betty L. O’Kernick
Betty Louise Dulaney O’Kernick, 70, a resident of 217 Ferndale Drive,
Elkins, departed this life Wednesday evening, Oct. 12, 2005, at her home. She
had been in declining health.

Betty L. O’Kernick
Betty Louise Dulaney O’Kernick, 69, a resident of 217 Ferndale Drive, Elkins,
departed this life Wednesday evening, Oct. 12, 2005, at her home after a brief
illness.
She was born Wednesday, March 25, 1936, at Valley Bend, a daughter of the late
Norval Dulaney and Hazel Betler Dulaney McClellan and her stepfather, John
McClellan.
On Feb. 27, 1954, at Uniontown, Pa., she was married to Fred O’Kernick, who
survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Stevan Paige O’Kernick of Cape Cod, Mass.,
Douglas Paul O’Kernick and wife, Retha, of Austintown, Ohio, Gregory Lynn
O’Kernick and wife, Suzanne, of Columbus, Ohio, and Joseph Kevin O’Kernick
and wife, Chris, of Austintown, Ohio; one brother, Norval Dale Dulaney and wife,
Mary, of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Mary Catherine Simmons of Elkins, Peggy
Styre and husband, Thomas, of Elkins, and Barbara Sue McClellan of Sarasota,
Fla.; one aunt, Mable Haslebacher of Clarksburg; eight grandchildren, Steven
Michael, and Kellie Ann of Cape Cod, Mass., Kevin Jacob and Rachel of Austintown,
Ohio, Anna Dulaney and Michael Duffy of Columbus, Ohio, and Kristen Marie and
Ryan Paul of Austintown, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Polly O’Kernick and Anna
Louise, of Elkins; one brother-in-law, Joseph O’Kernick and wife, Hazel, of
Coalton; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School, worked for the Packard
Electric Co. at Warren, Ohio, and retired from General Motors at Lordstown,
Ohio. She had previously lived at Canfield, Ohio, where she and her husband were
members of the Saint Michael’s Church and participated in the founding of the
church. She was currently a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church at
Elkins. She enjoyed everything and everybody she knew or met.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins today
from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, at the funeral home, a prayer service will be
recited at 7 p.m. by Sister Teresa Reddington. On Saturday, Mrs. O’Kernick
will be moved to Saint Brendan Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. William Anderson will be the
presider and interment will follow at Saint Vincent Cemetery at Kingsville. Lohr
& Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Betty Louise

Joseph E. Oldaker
Joseph Elzy Oldaker, 93, passed away in Elkins, at Nella’s Nursing Home,
Friday, Dec. 9, 2005.
Joseph was born July 8, 1912, at Clarksburg, the son of Lowery Elzy Oldaker and
Willie Lawson Oldaker.
He is survived by one sister, Geneva Oldaker Taylor of Rock Cave; and one
brother, Edward Lawson Oldaker of Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances Oldaker Beeson; two
brothers, William Bailey Oldaker and David Lynn Oldaker Sr.; and one nephew,
David Lynn Oldaker Jr.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, Kathleen Sue Rymeski of Portland,
Ore., Lisa Palmer of Grafton, Mass., Bradley R. Oldaker of Weston, Philip
Oldaker of Buckhannon, Michael Oldaker of Buckhannon, Stephen Oldaker of Texas,
Joseph Beeson of South Charleston and David Beeson of Jefferson, Md; one
stepnephew, Richard R. Hawkins of Mooresville, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Lois
Westfall Oldaker and Marie Jones Oldaker of Buckhannon; and one brother-in-law,
Roy G. Taylor of Rock Cave.
Joe graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1930. He later attended West
Virginia Wesleyan College, where he starred in track and tennis. He had received
many sports awards, including being inducted into the West Virginia Wesleyan
Sports Hall of Fame. He was given The West Virginia Collegiate Athletic
Association Award as the all-time tennis player and the Outstanding Alumni of
the Year Award by West Virginia Wesleyan College.
He bought the Acme Book Store from Hack Humphries and operated it for many years
until he retired. He never married but took care of his mother until her death
in 1968. He then sold her house on Smithfield Street and moved to 207 Randolph
St., where he lived for more than 20 years, then moved when he was no longer
able to take care of himself. He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist
Church.
Joe served in the U.S. Army in World War II with the 3609th Quartermaster Truck
Co. He served in England, France and Germany and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
His company had a reunion every two years and Joe attended many of them
including hosting one in Buckhannon.
He was a sports devotee and gave financial support to West Virginia Wesleyan
College and to many of the basketball players. He loved to fish and hunt and had
fished in many states and in Canada. He made many trips to visit his brother,
Ed, in Arizona, where they fished in the White Mountains of Arizona.
A memorial will be conducted for Joe at Chapel Hill Methodist Church at a later

Shirley Ann Seasley Oldaker, 68, of Rock Cave, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at
Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Shirley A. Oldaker
Shirley Ann Seasley Oldaker, 68, of Rock Cave, died Thursday, Oct. 6,
2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Oscar and
Bertha Seasley.
She was united in marriage on Aug. 26, 1955 to Robert "Bob" Oldaker,
who survives.
She is also survived by two daughters, Rebecca "Becky" Starkey and
husband, Rockie, of Buckhannon and Cynthia "Cindi" Riggs and husband,
Steven, of Rock Cave; three grandchildren, Tara Starkey Bennett of Bruceton
Mills, Todd Starkey of Buckhannon and Casen Riggs of Rock Cave; one sister,
Barbara S. Montgomery and husband, Brad, of French Creek; and several nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Oldaker enjoyed playing the auto harp in different churches throughout the
county. She was a member of the Rock Cave Baptist Church.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.today at
Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Sunday at Rock
Cave Baptist Church, where she will lie in state from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., the
funeral hour. Pastor David Jessie and Pastor Shane Montgomery will officiate.
Interment will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
the family request that donations be made to the Family Life Center at the Rock
Cave Baptist Church, P.O. Box 21, Rock Cave, W.Va. 26234. Heavner & Cutright

Helen Virginia Keller Ours, 90, of HC 33, Box 3005, Dorcas, died Monday, April
11, 2005, at her home.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home
with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating. Interment will follow at Olivet

James Daniel “Jimmie” Ours, 64, of Cabins, died Saturday, July 9, 2005,
at his home.
Visitation was Sunday at Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services were today at
1 p.m. at Cabins Assembly of God Church with the Rev. James Hightshoe
officiating. Interment followed in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens at

Larkin B. Ours, 88, of Dorcas, died Friday at his home.

Revs. Paul Donalson and Richard Longbon officiating. Burial will be in Olivet

Paul Scott Ours, 75, of Dorcas, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Grant County
Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. from the
funeral home with Pastor Calvin Redman officiating. Interment will follow at

Richard Allen “Dick” Ours, 56, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Sept. 11,
2005, at his residence.

funeral home chapel with Pastor Chanon Mullens officiating. Interment will
