Alma J. Caldwell
Alma Jane Riffle Caldwell, 66, of Ambrose Street, Buckhannon, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at her home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
She was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late John W. and Beulah M. Edgell Riffle.
She is survived by one daughter, Theresa June Menendez of Buckhannon; one son, Charles Edward Biggs of Delaware; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by two brothers, Allen Riffle of Magadore, Ohio, and Marple Riffle of Tallmadge, Ohio; and two sisters, Leona Reed of Buckhannon and Deloris Good of Akron, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Mrs. Caldwell was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Pastor Ed McDaniels officiating. Olin Calhoun
Olin Calhoun, 88, of Upper Tract, died Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Petersburg with Bishop David B. Bradley officiating. John Campbell
John Campbell, 79, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Saturday morning, Jan. 22, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Clarksburg. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
He was born Thursday, Nov. 26, 1925, at Saint George, a son of the late James Washington and Dessie Burns Campbell.
On June 4, 1961, at Parsons, he was married to the former Dorothy Ellen Robinson, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Arlene Brenda Snyder and husband, Steven Lee, of North Carolina; one brother, Mark Campbell and wife, Eleanor, of Covington, Va.; and three grandchildren, Lauren, Alex and Chris Snyder, all of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Campbell.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1944. He was a paratrooper with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an employee for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 40 years. He was secretary of the Tucker County Bee Keepers Association and a former secretary, treasurer and editor of the West Virginia Bee Keepers Association. He was Past Grand of the former IOOF Lodge of Parsons. He was president of the Elkins chapter of Land Surveyors and he attended the First United Methodist Church of Parsons.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Bar Funeral Home of Parsons Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 7 p.m., the IOOF Lodge of Davis will conduct ritualistic services. Keith E. Campbell
Keith E. Campbell, 51, a resident of Route 1, Mount Clare, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 7, 1953, in Philippi, a son of the late Carl C. Campbell and Mabel D. Zirkle Campbell, who survives at Volga along with his stepfather, Gene Karickhoff.
On Sept. 15, 1984, he married Sharon K. Vance Campbell, his loving wife of 20 years, who survives at Mount Clare.
Also surviving are two sons, Nicholas Keith Campbell and Cortlan A. Campbell, both of Mount Clare; grandmother, Nellie Zirkle of Belington; mother-in-law, Shirley Vance of Elkins; former wife and friend, Jackie Jones Linger of Buckhannon; and special friends, Michael Daughtery and Gary Wayne Vance.
Keith was a coal miner for Badger Coal Co. and was disabled in 1982, was a member of Queens Chapel United Methodist Church at Volga and a graduate of Philip Barbour High School with the class of 1971. He was a loving husband and father.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home in Philippi from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Leta Mae Carder, a former resident of Valley Bend and a resident of Valley Head, where she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gerald Brown, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2005.

Leta M. Carder
Leta Mae Carder, 72, a former resident of Valley Bend, went to be with the Lord Monday, July 4, 2005, at 4:14 a.m. at the home of her daughter, son-in-law and grandson, Debbie, Jerald and J. D. Brown of Valley Head, where she had made her home since January. Death was attributed to cancer.
Born Feb. 13, 1933, in Huttonsville, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Violet Weese Swecker.
On April 11, 1960, she was united in marriage to Delbert “Buck” Carder Sr., who preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2003.
Leta Mae is survived by two daughters, Dotty Arbogast and husband, Danny, of El Paso, Texas, and Debbie Brown and husband, Jerald, of Valley Head; a son, Delbert “Buck” Carder Jr. and wife, Mary, of Victoria, Texas; and three sisters, Lorena Collett and husband, Roy, of East Dailey, Phyllis Talbert of Valley Bend and Donna Hicks and husband, Paul, of Florida. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Leigh Ann Watson, Brittany Arbogast, Kayleen Carder, Ryan Arbogast and J.D. Brown; three great-grandchildren, Bryce Watson. Jeremiah Watson and Lydia Sears; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two sisters, Faye Joy and Margaret Tiller; and a brother, Darrell Swecker.
Leta Mae was the postmaster at Snowshoe until retiring in 1997. She was a former school bus driver in Ohio for several years. She was a graduate of the Tygarts Valley High School with the class of 1951 and a member of the Mingo Presbyterian Church. Leta Mae tried to bring people to a personal, loving relationship with our Lord. She also loved watching her grandson J.D. play baseball. as well as spending time with her family. Leta Mae loved chatting on the phone with family and friends. She was a Christian by faith. Leta Mae will be sadly missed and remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Thursday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel Friday at 11 a.m. Pastor David Rice of the Mingo Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Leta Mae’s name to Mt. Mildred Carlson
Mildred Carlson, 84, of St. Clair Shores, Mich., died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005.
She was born March 9, 1921, in Thomas, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Welk Frederick.
She is survived by one son, Fred Carlson; one daughter, Mary Vertin; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carlson retired as a sales associate from J.L. Hudson Corp.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Thomas with Father Tim Grassi as officiant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  From 23 Aug 2005. 

Michael P. Carney
Michael P. Carney, 58, of Elkins and formerly of Clarksburg, died suddenly Thursday evening, June 9, 2005, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins.
He was born in Clarksburg, May 5, 1947, a son of the late John Vincent Carney and Mary Dolan Carney Heck.
Surviving are four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. James F. and Antoinette Carney of Bera, Ohio, John Vincent and Gerda Carney of Bluefield, Va., Patrick Andrew and Kay Carney of Delmont, Pa. and Christopher J. and Barbara Carney of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews.
Michael previously was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and most recently a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., Clarksburg, W.Va. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Cesidio J. Federico as celebrant. Aaron R. Carpenter
Baby Boy Aaron Riley Carpenter, infant son of Kevin Carpenter and Kristen Robin Butler, both of Junior, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Michael Ray Carpenter and Haden Joseph Poe, both of Junior; paternal grandparents, Robert and Peggy Carpenter of Junior; maternal grandparents, Kitty Bibey of Beverly and Mark Butler of Ohio; great-grandparents, Mary Coontz and Mary Ketchem, both of Belington.
A private family visitation will be held at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. A private funeral service will then be conducted at 2 p.m. from the funeral chapel with the Rev. Destry Daniels officiating. Interment will then follow in Stringtown Cemetery. Dessie Marie Carpenter, 81, of Dunmore, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale. Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday at Dunmore United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mavis H. Carpenter
Mavis H. Carpenter, 90, a resident of Route 4, Philippi, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 30, 1915, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Pascal and Flora Cutright Snyder.
She was united in marriage Oct. 25, 1936, to Willard Carpenter, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Norma and husband, Robert Poling, of Nestorville community; one son, Larry and wife, Karen Carpenter, of Belington; four grandchildren, Debbie Golden, Crystal Suder, Chad Carpenter and Pam Zaborowisky; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Carpenter was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by one son, Calvin Carpenter; one grandchild, Gary Carpenter; two sisters, Myra Winemiller and Maureen Reger; and two brothers, Hartsel Snyder and Melvin Snyder.
Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker, a member of the Philippi Senior Center, Corley United Methodist Lady’s Aid and Corley United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to noon, at which time she will be moved to Corley United Methodist Church to lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with the Rev. Xenna Carpenter
Xenna Carpenter, 94, of Buckhannon, Tennerton community, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
She was born Jan. 19, 1911, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Harvey and Cemantha Hyre Long.
She was united in marriage May 21, 1940, in Monterey, Va., to Delbert Carpenter, who preceded her in death Feb. 8, 1986.
She is survived by two brothers, French Long of French Creek and Fred Long of Buckhannon; one sister, Betty Donaldson of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Helmick, Vera Smallridge, Blanche Fleming and Ruth Criss; and three brothers, Harry, Cecil and Glen Long.
Mrs. Carpenter taught elementary school in Upshur County for 43 years before retiring in June 1973. She was a member of the Frenchton United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Clyde A. Carper
Clyde Arnold Carper, 56, a resident of the Buckhannon Manor, formerly of Belington, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 31, 1948, at Enterprise, Harrison County, a son of the late Harold and Virginia Compton Carper.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Meahl and longtime companion, Harold Gainer, of Belington and Kyula Jenkins and husband, Gary, of Clarksburg; two brothers, Eddie Carper of Elkins and Johnnie Carper of Philippi; his former wife, Lenora Carper of Clarksburg; and four grandchildren, Jessie Carper, Brandy Lee Meahl, Curtis Lee Meahl and Justin Ray Jenkins.
Mr. Carper was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a former carpenter and painter in residential and commercial construction. He was a member of the American Legion Post at Elkins and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 573 at Clarksburg. He was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel at 609 Crim Ave., Belington, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 12.
Tim Gainer will officiate and interment will follow in the Elbon Cemetery at Sago. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.  From 9 Jul 2005. 

Clarence Carr
Clarence “Todd” Carr, 83, a resident of the Beverly Five-lane, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at 7:37 p.m., in Ruby Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born Dec. 13, 1921, at Wymer, he was the son of the late Solomon and Stella White Carr.
On July 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Edna Lee Armstrong, who survives on the Beverly Five-lane.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Clarence Ray Carr and wife, Deniece, of Mabie; a daughter, Glenda Carr of Elkins; four sisters, Sylvia Carr of the Beverly Five-lane, Opal Brake of Kings Run, Irene Coffman of Elkins and Georgetta Hammonds of Summersville; and two brothers, Solomon Carr and wife, Lois, of the Beverly Five-lane and Curtis Carr and wife, Frances, of Kings Run. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jody Johnson, Jaime George, Carla Kaposy and George Carr; three great-grandchildren, Indigo Plaugher, Noah Plaugher and Savannah Carr; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one sister and four brothers.
“Todd” was employed as a brakeman for the Western Maryland Railroad, retiring in 1983 with 39 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Trainmen Union.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman Friday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Stella Faye Moyer, pastor of Rowan Memorial Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow. F.E. Lewis K. Carr
Lewis Kenneth Carr, 76, a resident of the Dryfork community, Hendricks, departed this life Sunday evening, June 12, 2005, at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sunday, Jan. 20, 1929, at Hendricks, a son of the late Floda Bell Carr.
He was twice married, first to the former Wanda Turner, who preceded him in death, and then to the former Pauline Grace Long, who survives at Dryfork.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Ralph Helmick and wife, Melinda, of Hambleton and Lester Helmick and wife, Debbie, of Elkins; one granddaughter, Rhonda Ends and husband, Jason; one grandson, Ronnie Carr and wife, Missy; six stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson, Austin William Carr; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
One son, Ronald Lewis Carr, preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1949, had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways for two years, and had worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 20 years as a heavy equipment operator retiring in 1988. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved gardening, hunting, fishing, trapping, and was a member of the North American Hunting Club.

Surviving are three sons, Billy A. Carr and wife, Faye, of Hendricks, Roger Lee Carr and wife, Ruth, of Parsons and Homer D. Carr and wife, Kay, of Mackeyville; two daughters, Darlene Simmons of California and Janet Poling and husband, Bill, of Hendricks; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one son, Edward Dorman “Mousey” Carr Sr.; one granddaughter, Roxanne Boyles; 10 brothers, Oscar, George, Daniel, Roy, Johnny, Dole, Cleland, Sammy Ray, Monroe and Claude Hardy; and three sisters, Effie Arbogast, Lillie Smith and infant Daisy Hardy.
She attended the one-room school at Pheasant Run. She was homemaker.

Mary Louise Carson, 84, of Davis, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005 at her home.
She was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Coketon, a daughter of the late J. Herbert Jones and Rose Victoria Naugle Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Joseph Carson Sr.; two sons, Joseph Emil Carson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jerry Joseph Carson Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Bonita Leigh LaBelle of Brentwood, Tenn., Rosemary Lynn Bates of Las Vegas, Nev., Helen Louise Heins of Onarza, Ill., and Marilyn Ann Benson of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Florence Helen Cutlip of Silver Spring, Md., and Rose Marie Johnson; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris May Borst and Naomi Ruth Dixson.
Mrs. Carson was a loving wife and mother.

She was born Saturday, Sept. 3, 1949, at Kempton, Md., the daughter of the late Adam Wesley Cassidy and Violet Wyoma Cassidy Jones.
Surviving are three sons, Allen Edgar Jones and Timothy Wayne Jones, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Steven Ray Jones of Parsons; two brothers, Charles “Chuck” Cassidy of Oakland, Md., and Roger Cassidy of Wulee, Fla.; three sisters, Jeanie Burns and husband, Delvin, of Parsons, Sandra Hardy of Landsdale, Pa., and Terry Wheland of Holly Meadows; three grandsons, Stevie Cassidy, Sebastion Sloan and Nicolas Jones, all of Parsons; two granddaughters, Jennifer Taliefer and Rebecca Jones, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1967. She was a member of the Bimingtown Baptist Church at Middlesboro, Ky. She attended the Orange Park Presbyterian Church at Orange Park, Fla. She was a noted volunteer, having been involved with Angel Aide and the Highland Youth Center, and she was an avid cook and seamstress.

Grace E. Casto, 88, a resident of Route 1, Volga, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, in Mansfield Place.
She was born March 14, 1917, at Century No. 2, a daughter of the late Brennie and Gertrude Curkandall Beeson.
She was united in marriage March 16, 1935, to Kyle Casto, who preceded her in death July 1, 1988.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret and husband, Willard Swisher, of Beverly; one son, Richard and wife, Millie Barton, of Philippi; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
She retired from Grafton Manufacturing as a seamstress and later worked as a cook. She was a member of the Democrat Executive Committee, past president of Volga Senior Center and was an avid hunter. She attended the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home at 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour. Noel “Bud” Casto, 86, a resident of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was born April 25, 1919, at French Creek, a son of the late Esker Casto and Myrtle Maude Spaur Casto.
In 1944, he was married to Alice Ruth Leaseburg Casto, who preceded him in death in 1991.
Surviving are one niece; and seven nephews; one special nephew, Mason and wife, Dora Neely, of Rock Cave.
He was a casket maker for R&B Casket Co. He was a Methodist by faith and a member of Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663.
Also preceding him in death were one brother, Otis Casto; one sister, Margaret Hull; and one niece.

He is also survived by one brother, Chuck Caywood of Minnesota; one sister, Cheryl Fortney of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Cox of Glenmore; two special nieces, Shelly Canfield and husband, Eric, of Montrose and Kelly Carpenter and husband, Ron, of Glenmore; three special nephews, Richard Cox and wife, Mary, of Belington, Ralph “Billy” Cox Jr. and wife, Frances, of Elkins and David Cox of Glenmore; two special cousins, Rosemarie and Jerry Wright; and several other nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were two brothers, Stan and John Caywood; two sisters, Pat Foreman and Beth Ann Caywood; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Cox Sr.
“Tex” attended the schools of Oklahoma and had served with the U.S. Navy. He had worked as an electrician for Davis & Elkins College for 37 years before retiring in June 2000. He enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, and was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion.

Grace Elizabeth Cebula, 83, a resident of Colonial Place, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
She was born March 27, 1921, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Reynolds Mason and Laura Hahne Mason.
On Sept. 7, 1946, at Weirton, she was married to Walter Cebula, who preceded her in death June 5, 1995.
Surviving are two sons, Evan Cebula of Charleston and Craig Cebula of Hopewell, Va.; three daughters, Lynne Shea of Newport News, Va., Karen Rossler of Raleigh, N.C., and Wendy King of Weston.
Also preceding her in death were three half sisters, Marie Neuhahn, Flora Neuhahn and Laura Neuhahn; and two half brothers, William Neuhahn and Robert Mason.
Mrs. Cebula was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 703rd WAAC. She was a homemaker and a mother of five.

Randall F. Cesaro, 52, of Dade City, Fla., died Sunday, March 6, 2005, at home.
A native of West Virginia, he moved to Florida in 1996. He was a retired coal miner and was Baptist by faith.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Susan; a son, Brian Cesaro of Dade City, Fla.; a daughter, Melissa Chisenhall of Bushnell, Fla.; three siblings, Jim Cesaro of Troy, N.C., Mary Myers of Replete and Lillie Allen of Canton, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Orlando Cesaro; and two brothers, Harold “Snooks” Cesaro and Orlando “Buster” Cesaro.

Denver S. Channell, 82, a lifelong resident of Valley Head, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at his residence.

Denver S. Channell
Denver S. Channell, 82, a lifelong resident of Valley Head, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past eight years and his condition became critical over the past three months.
He was born Jan. 21, 1923, at Valley Head, the son of the late John D. and Mabel Channel.
On July, 8, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Ruby J. Mallow, who survives him in Valley Head.
Also surviving are two daughters, Caroline J. Bell and husband, Clyde Jr., and Kay L. Simmons and husband, Jeff, of Mill Creek; two sons, Denver “Charlie” Channell and wife, Kelly, of East Dailey and John E. Channel and wife, Barbara, of Valley Head; two brothers, Ted Channell and wife, Beth, of Valley Head and Danier Channell a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren, Christina M. Defibaugh, Deirdre L. Channell, Paige M. Channell, Stacy L. Simmons and Aaron M. Channel; one great-grandchild, Whitney R. Defibaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers Charles, Estel, Troy, Donald and Olan Channell.
Mr. Channell was a coal miner, employed by Hickory Lick Mines for 17 years and a member of United Mine Workers Local Union 6915. He was also employed at Huttonsville Exxon as a mechanic. He retired in 1978 after 10 years of service. He was a Methodist by faith and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and before becoming ill, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him and will remain in their hearts forever.
Friends will be received after 6 p.m. today at F.E. Runner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. Pastors Robert Baer and Verl Simmons will officiate. Johnnie W. Chapman
Mr. Johnnie Wilson Chapman, 85, a resident of 739 Shadyside Drive, West Mifflin, Pa., departed this life at 5:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at HCR Manor Care in Bethel Park, Pa.
He was born April 27, 1920, in Upshur County, a son of the late John Richard and Vina Chapman.
On Oct. 7, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Imogene Coontz, who survives at their residence.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Chapman is survived by one son, Charles Robert Chapman and wife, Pattie, of West Moreland, Pa.; two daughters, Dianne Chapman Blank and husband, John, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Madaline Carrol Toci and husband, Richard, of Eighty-four, Pa. Also surviving are one sister, Ruth Fisher of Glenville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by 17 siblings.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army for six years, and was honorably discharged as master sergeant. He retired from US Steel of Homestead, Pa., in 1984. He was a former member of the Lambert Chapel United Methodist Church near Belington.

Sarah Louise Lyons Chen, 46, of Coalton, passed away after a short battle with cancer at her residence Jan. 29, 2005.
She was born in Wood County, a daughter of the late Raymond E. and Hazel W. Cross Lyons.
She was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She was a member of Parkersburg American Legion Post 15 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving is her husband of 20 years, Eddie Chen; a daughter Crystal Louise Jackson of Norton; two grandchildren, Ashley and Shane Haynes of Norton; three brothers, Raymond E. Lyons of Coolville, Charles M. Lyons and his wife, Della, of Parkersburg and William “Billy” Lyons and his wife, Jackie, of Belleville; six sisters, Ruth Dennis, Nancy Sundstrum and her husband, Mike, Violet Barker, Frances Null, Beatrice “Sue” Salyers and Virginia “Marie” Lyons, all of Parkersburg; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Loretta J. Chewning
Loretta Jewell Chewning, 55, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 4:11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, in the emergency department of the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 27, 1949, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Dave Clinton Taylor and Lucille Gear Chewning. She was never married.
Surviving is one brother, Edward Chewning of Mill Creek, with whom Loretta made her home; and two half sisters, Opal Taylor of Elkins and Carolyn F. Leary and husband, John, of Mill Creek.
One half brother and one half sister also preceded her in death.
Loretta was a member of the Light of the Valley Church of Mill Creek.

Ronald Denver “Dick” Chewning of Orlando, Fla., died Dec. 9, 2004, in Orlando, Fla.
He was born June 9, 1925, at Adolph, a son of the late Floyd and Julia Murphy Chewning.
Surviving are his wife, Donice; one daughter, Julia, and four stepdaughters, Debbie, Pam, Vickie and Dona, all of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Neva of Las Cruces, N.M., and June of Orlando, Fla.; and two brothers, Curtis of Canton, Ohio, and Charles “Joe” of Vanderbilt, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Gerald “Buzz”, Elwood, Carl and Eugene Elmer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Orlando having served as a member of the color guard unit for several years.

Velma Mae Chisholm, 61, a resident of 621 Poe Run Road, Elkins, where she made her home with Timothy Ray, passed away Friday afternoon at her residence.

Velma Mae Newbraugh Chisholm, 61, a resident of 621 Poe Run Road, Elkins, where she had made her home with Timothy Ray, her close friend and caretaker for the past five years, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, at 1:10 p.m., at her residence. She had been in failing health since September and death was attributed to cancer.
Born Dec. 27, 1943, at Morgantown, she was a twin daughter of the late George Leslie and Gladys Garrett Newbraugh.
On Sept. 11, 1969, she was united in marriage to Charles Russell “Buster” Chisholm, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Velma is survived by three daughters, Mary Miller of Dry Fork, Susie Chisholm and fiance, Craig Miller, of Harman and Jennifer Chisholm and fiance, Howard Cutright, of Buckhannon; one son, John Chisholm and wife, Priscilla, of Winchester, Va.; three sisters, Velma’s twin sister, Zelma Dawson and Birdy Newbraugh, both of Morgantown, and Maxine Bennett of Thomas; and one brother, Bobby Newbraugh of Morgantown. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tommy Miller, Nickala Miller, Adrianna Chisholm and Jenna Cutright; several nieces, nephews; and a host of friends, including a special friend, Cindy Cottrell.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was an infant son, Jimmy Russell Chisholm.
Velma was a homemaker and an active member of the Beverly Community Church, formerly the Abundant Life Christian Center, where she was a former member of the choir. She loved working word search puzzles, embroidery, talking to her friends on the telephone and attending church. Velma always had a smile for everyone and was more concerned with others than herself. She loved everyone and everyone’s life she touched loved her. She will be greatly missed; however, she will remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
Friends will be received at Beverly Community Church today after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the church Tuesday, Dec. 13, at noon. Pastor Curlie Ray Jr. of the Beverly Community Church and the Rev. Conley Ogden, pastor of New Beginnings Ministries of Buckhannon, will officiate. Paul Lester Christopher, 92, a resident of 400 10th St., Elkins, and for the past week a resident of Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington, departed this life Friday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2005, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Friday, Jan. 10, 1913, at Bruceton Mills, a son of the late Lester Lawson Christopher and Rebecca M. Gribble Christopher.
On June 1, 1935, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Julia Irene Michael, who preceded him in death March 14, 2001.
Surviving are one daughter, Valjean McCartney and husband, Clyde, of Elkins; a grandchild that they raised, Rebecca Sue Summerfield and husband, Tom, of Elkins; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great great grandson.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were five brothers, Alvy, Dana, Harry, John and William Christopher; and one sister, Lucinda Galloway.
He was a graduate of Bruceton Mills High School with the class of 1933 and had worked as a line foreman for Monongahela Power Co., retiring in 1978 with 43 years of service. He was a 50-year member of Elkins Lodge 108, AF & AM, where he was twice Past Master, the Elkins Chapter 35, Royal Arch Masons, the Pilgrim Commandary 21, Knights Templar, the Scottish Rite, the Royal Arch, the Beni Kedem Shrine, the Randolph Chapter 74, Order of the Eastern Star, where he had served as Past Patron, as well as Past Grand Patron of West Virginia and was also a 50-year member, was a Kentucky Colonel, was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church at Bruceton Mills and attended the First Baptist Church of Elkins.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, the Randolph Chapter 74, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct ritualistic services. Thomas G. Clark
Thomas G. Clark, 85, of Chalk Hill formerly of Hopwood, Pa., a professional forester well acquainted with Chestnut Ridge and the greater Monongahela Valley, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at his Deer Lake home near Chalk Hill, Pa., after a long illness.
Tom was born May 10, 1920, at South Union Township near Uniontown, Pa., a son of Guy M. Clark and Nelle Gates Clark.
On Jan. 19, 1944, he married the former Mildred Shortridge of Morgantown, who survives at their home.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are their five sons, Conrad W. Clark and wife, Muriel Akamatsu, of Alexandria, Va., and Bronson, Fla.; Timothy R. Clark and wife, Rita Clark, of Raleigh, N.C., Guy Alan Clark and wife, Jane Clark, of Chalk Hill, Pa., Bruce S. Clark of Morgantown and Daniel Q. Clark of Charlottesville, Va.; their six grandchildren, Joseph Gates Clark and wife, Angie Clark, and Lora Anne Clark, all of Raleigh, N.C., Wilson Thomas Clark and Emily A. Clark of Morgantown and Bennet G. Clark and Christian R. Clark of Chalk Hill, Pa.; and their two great-grandchildren, Ethan Gates Clark and Sophie N. Clark, of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by his three sisters, Patti Gould of New Port Richey, Fla., Dorcas Clark of Indiana, Pa., and Margaret Nord and husband, S. Robert Nord, of New Port Beach, Calif.; and their families.
Tom attended South Union Schools in Fayette County and graduated from West Virginia University School of Forestry in 1942. After serving as a navigator in the Naval Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant, he received a master’s degree in wildlife management at the University of Michigan. His career in forestry began with seven years with the U.S. Forest Service, followed by many years as a self-employed consulting forester running Forest Land Management Co. with offices in Hopwood, Pa., Morgantown and Elkins until he retired in 2000. He also worked in the coal, oil and gas industries. From boyhood, he looked to the mountains and chose to make his career in their hardwood forests. Tom was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates and served in the 64th session of the Legislature in 1979 and 1980. Tom was a member of Mount Washington Presbyterian Church.
Friends will be received at Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home in Farmington today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Visitation will continue at Mt. Washington Presbyterian from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the hour of the service, with the Rev. Dr. Peter Keith officiating.

James M. Cleavenger, 50, a resident of Main Street, Philippi, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at his residence from injuries sustained in a fire.
He was born Aug. 24, 1954, in Grafton, a son of the late Brooks and Clara Costilow Cleavenger.
He was thrice married, to Kandi Cleavenger, the late Sharon K. Cleavenger and Melissa D. Cleavenger.
Surviving are one daughter, Jenifner Cleavenger of Martinburg; five sons, James D. Cleavenger of Canton, Ohio, Johnnie L. Cleavenger of Ohio, Tim Cleavenger and Brandon J. Cleavenger, both of Chandlor, Ariz., and Christopher Cleavenger of Belington; four sisters, Betty Jean Ichon of California, Violet Evans of Griffin, Ga., Dorothy Renauit and husband, Elidege, of Kingston, Ohio and Clara Marie Boyers and husband, Tommy, of Ohio; two brothers, Leonard Cleavenger and wife, Donna, of Flemington and Brooks Jr. Cleavenger of Chandlor, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Cindy Windgate; and three brothers, David Cleavenger, Glenwood “Buck” Cleavenger and Dow Etsel Cleavenger.
Mr. Cleavenger was an independent welder and was a Baptist by faith.

Junior Lanier Clevenger, 82, a resident of Diana, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Monday, July 3, 1922, at Pickens, a son of the late John William Clevenger and Amanda Katherine Schrader Clevenger.
He was married to A. Hazel Clevenger, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, John Clevenger and wife, Elfriede, of Westminster, Md., Michael Clevenger and Ronald Clevenger and wife, Linda, all of Buckhannon; one daughter, Hilda Bankhead and husband, Larry, of Diana; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were five brothers and three sisters.
He was a miner, a lifelong resident of Webster County and an avid squirrel hunter. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Nedra Jane Cline, 71, a resident of Route 1, Union community, Philippi, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at her residence.
She was born June 4, 1934, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Mossie Carder Burner.
She was united in marriage June 14, 1978 to David G. Cline, who preceded her in death June 30, 2004.
Surviving are one daughter, Billie Jane Beohm of Clemtown; one stepdaughter, Nancy Bennett of Shady Springs; one son, Harold M. and wife, Rhonda Pyles, of Philippi; two sisters, Betty and husband, John Wilmoth, of Barberton, Ohio, and Joretta Stiltner of Union community, Philippi; two brothers, Larry and wife, Delma Burner, of Clinton, Ohio, and Nelson and wife, Judy Burner, of Cherry Hill Road, Philippi; six grandchildren, Cody, Kaleb and Lauren Pyles and Heather, Frankie and David Bennett; and one great-grandchild, Skylar Beohm.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard, Gene, James, Jerry and Clyde Jr. Burner; and a canine companion, J.J.
She worked at South Bay Growers in Florida as a warehouse manager and was a member of the Elks Club of Florida.

Mildred Kelly Vanscoy Clingerman, 91, a resident of the IOOF Home of Elkins, passed away Tuesday morning, May 3, 2005, at the IOOF Home.
She was born Sept. 11, 1913, at Kelly Mountain, a daughter of the late James H. Kelly and Minnie Coberly Kelly.
She was twice married, first to Virgil Vanscoy, who preceded her in death in 1963. In 1968, she married William R. Clingerman, who preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1995.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. William (Joyce) Cain of Fredericksburg, Va., Mrs. William (Jerry) Stankus of Buckhannon and Mrs. Ron (Judi) Forren of St. Albans; and three stepchildren, Renee Miller and Lynn Clingerman, both of Ohio, and William (Rusty) Clingerman of Elkins. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three stepgrandsons, eight great-grandchildren, one foster brother, William C. Lough of Texas; and one nephew, William “Bill” Kelly of Buckhannon.
Also preceding her in death was one brother, Clarence W. Kelly.
Mrs. Clingerman was a retired nurse technician. She was a member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62 of Elkins, Randolph County Senior Center, Post 29 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.
At Mrs. Clingerman’s request, her remains will be cremated. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. He attended the schools of Bowden and Elkins High School, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the U.S. Army, had worked for the Columbia Gas as a maintenance mechanic for 27 years retiring in 1992, was a member of the Mountaineer Chapter, Izaak Walton League, the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center, was an assistant troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 88 and was a member of the Elkins Church of God and Family Worship Center where he had served as an usher.

Frances Coberly, 77, a resident of Montrose, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Jan. 29, 1927, at Bowden, a daughter of the late Gladys Powers George.
She was married to Robert Lee Coberly, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a companion, Howard Murphy of Montrose; one son, Robert Lee Coberly and wife, Sharon, of Montrose; two sisters, L. Amy Arbogast of Elkins and Georgia Pope of New Bern, N.C.; one granddaughter, Tracy Lee Harman and husband, Jim, of Elkins; and three great-grandsons, Jakob, Lukas and Hunter Harman.
Preceding her in death were one sister, Ethel George and several brothers.
She was a homemaker.

Helen G. Coberly
Helen Grace Bohon Coberly, 75, a former resident of Seneca Road, Elkins, and more recently a resident of Valentine’s Personal Care Home in Elkins, departed this life Saturday morning, July 16, 2005, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
She was born Sunday, Nov. 17, 1929, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Lyda Bohon and Cressie White Bohon.
On July 31, 1951, at Monterey, Va., she was married to Donald R. Coberly, who survives. They had celebrated 53 years of marriage.
Also surviving is one son, Donald B. Coberly and wife, Suzie, of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Regina “Jeannie” Mouse, of Beverly; two grandchildren, Jamie Morgan and husband, Pete, and Timothy Mouse and wife, Crystal, all of Elkins; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was one sister, Martha Dean Arbogast.
She had attended the schools of Randolph County, was a cook for the Baltimore County Schools and was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkins.

Herbert McKinley Coberly, 85, a resident of Elkins, departed this life late Wednesday evening, Nov. 9, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health.
He was born Monday, Feb. 2, 1920, at Faulkner, a son of the late Harley McKinley Coberly and Myrtle Lynda McBee Coberly.
On July 18, 1953, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Ruby Kathleen Heltzel, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Herbert Michael Coberly and wife, Belinda “Binky,” of Elkins and Thomas Gregory Coberly and fiancÈ, Linda Goodman, of Weaver Road; one sister, Winifred Coberly Good of Orlando, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Yoi Coberly of Elkins; and three grandchildren, Heath Michael Coberly and Jon Paul Calain, both of Elkins, and Tessa Nicole Randolph and husband, Chris, of Greensboro, N.C.
Preceding him in death besides his parents was one brother, Ayward Blake Coberly.
He attended the schools of Bowden, Elkins High School, Hagerstown High School, Davis & Elkins College, Shepherd College and the University of Tampa, where he was a member of the football squad and also played semi-pro football at Hagerstown, Md. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army with the 509th Parachute Battalion and had been a prisoner of war. He had worked for the Western Maryland Railroad for more than 30 years and retired as assistant track supervisor in 1981. He was an assistant Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, was a life member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a hunter and a noted pool shot.

Carolyn J. Cochran
Carolyn June Forman Cochran, 66, a resident of South Henry Avenue, Elkins, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Garrett Memorial Hospital at Oakland, Md. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected.
Carolyn was born in Crellin, Md., on April 13, 1939. She was raised and spent her formative years at Number 4 on Elk River in Webster County, as the only daughter of Joseph Carroll and Gertrude Eunice Forman, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Webster County High School then attended the West Virginia University Medical Secretary School. She met Bob Cochran in Webster County and they married on May 31, 1959.
Their daughter, Lori Ann Cochran, was born in 1964, and the family moved to Elkins in 1966, where they have lived since.
Carolyn’s professional career included Davis & Elkins College, the West Virginia Department of Human Resources and as a legal secretary for three law offices in Elkins. She retired from Busch, Zurbuch and Thompson in April 2002. Carolyn was very involved in the Elkins community where she volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Randolph County Senior Center and served as a member of the American Legion Post No. 29 Auxiliary. Carolyn shared her generous life with many friends and family in West Virginia and Oakland, Md.
Friends were received from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m Sunday, May 22, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home at Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Walter Weeks Jr. officiating. Mrs. Cochran will then be moved to the Garrett County Memorial Gardens at Oakland, Md., where friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. today. Interment will follow. Tabitha J. Cole
Tabitha Jane Cole, 28, of Volga, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at her home, following a lifelong battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
She was born April 24, 1977, at Buckhannon, a daughter of Woodrow Thomas and Mary Jane Wentz Cole, who survive at Volga.
Also surviving are two brothers, Woodrow "Bub" Cole II of Volga and Christopher Cole of Buckhannon; two sisters, Angel Cole of Volga and Sue Schoonover of Texas; her paternal grandmother, Birdy Noell of Philippi; niece, Hannah Cole of Buckhannon; nephew, Brayden Cole of Belington; aunts and uncles, Bill and Barbary Chaapel, Gary and Margie Wentz, David and Charlotte Wentz, all of Hall, Dave and Rachel Newman, Jim and Nancy Noell, Betty and Russell Bartlett, all of Philippi, Steve and Sandy Wentz of Carrollton, Robert and Sue Weaver of Pennsboro, Robert and Beulah Ruckman of West Milford, Donald and Teresa Wentz of Clarksburg, Patty and Tom Carpenter of Texas and Michelle and Steve Carpenter of Belington.

Wesley L. Coleman
Wesley Lloyd Coleman, 44, of Arbovale, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005.
Mr. Coleman was born Sept. 24, 1960, in Vinland, N.J., and was the son of the Late Wesley Earl and Eileen Simpson Coleman.
He is survived by his wife, Joretta A. Coleman; his stepmother, Virginia Coleman; two daughters, Kristan F. Coleman and Deidre A. Bennett, both at home; seven sisters, Eileen Burke of Tennessee, Catherine Strickler of Virginia, Danieth Bennett of Florida, Pam Brewer of North Carolina, Marcia Coleman of New Jersey, Johnnie Fadel of South Carolina and Brenda Dannenselser of Maryland; three stepsisters, Patricia Ann Kelley , Mary Jane Wolfe and Debra Sue Wolfe, all of West Virginia; one stepbrother, Richard Allen of West Virginia; a special aunt, Danieth Patton of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a self-employed contractor and minister. Wesley was the president of Living Stones Ministries and a member of the Federation of Ministers and Churches International.

Albert J. Collett
Albert J. Collett, 89, a resident of Warren, Ohio, died at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at Cortland Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 28, 1916, at Elkins, the son of Thomas J. and Dollie Schoonover Collett.
He served with the medical detachment of the U.S. Army 400th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II and was in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes campaigns. His medals included the Distinguished Unit Badge with five Bronze Stars. He came to the Warren, Ohio, area in 1952 from Elkins and worked for Beaver Pipe Tools for 25 years and for Alcan Sheet and Plate for 16 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Warren, Ohio, Cortland Masonic Lodge 529 and the Ali Baba Grotto. He also belonged to SCOPE, the Bazetta Senior Citizens and attended the Southington Christian Church.
His first wife, Alberta Mae Sanders Collett, whom he married June 2, 1956, preceded him in death in 1998.
He is survived by his second wife, Evelyn Kelly Collett, whom he married Feb. 20, 1999; and three stepchildren, Joyce Ann (Clifford) Spangler of Jefferson, Ohio, Terry L. (Roberta) Kelly of Southington and Randy L. (Tina) Kelly of Cardington, Ohio. He also leaves a brother, Howard Collett of Carson City, Nev.; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alby and Willard; and two sisters, Ollie Lunsford and Irene Carter.
There are no services. Mr. Collett will be cremated and his ashes will be placed in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Material contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Southington Christian Church. Arrangements are by Roberts-Clark Chapel.  From 17 Oct 2005.

On Oct. 8, 1938, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Paul Collett, who preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth L. Collett of Indialantic, Fla., and Gerald A. Collett of Bridgeport; one daughter, Pauline J. Collett Newlon of Elkins; two sisters, Lillian I. Lockridge McCloud Mullenax of Buckhannon and Crystal Belle Lockridge Borror Bender of Elkins; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Reece “Bud” Lockridge, Charles Homer Lockridge and Harold Lee Lockridge; and one sister, Florence Amanda Lockridge Poling.
She and her husband operated the Crossroads Service Station for 12 years. She also worked as a caretaker prior to her retirement and enjoyed cooking, crotchet, painting, poems and crafts of all kinds. She was a member of the Goff Street Church of Christ.

Olin D. Collins
Olin David “OB” Collins, 59, of Davis, passed away Feb. 12, 2005, at his home.
He was born May 5, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of the late Olin Shera and Mary R. Kramer Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Mullenax Collins, one son, Thomas Neil Collins of Petersburg; three daughters, Lisa Ann Collins and Loni Christine Collins, both of Davis, and Mary Elizabeth Collins of Parsons; one brother, Daniel Lee and Janice Collins of Canaan Valley; one aunt, Kathleen Hutton of Umatilla, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
“OB” was a coal miner for North Brand and Island Creek mines, and he retired from Consol mines several years ago. He served as president of United Mine Workers of America Local 1289, District 31. He was a member of the House of Delegates for the West Virginia Legislature, representing Tucker and Preston counties for 10 years. He was a member of Thomas Faifax Lodge 174, Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was past worthy patron of Eastern Star, a member of the National Speleological Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles 936, Davis Volunteer Fire Department and an honorary member of the Mt. Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He was a volunteer reader at Davis Thomas Elementary/Middle School, a parent volunteer for the Canaan-Timberline Ski Team, a 4-H leader for Mt. Top Cardinals and a former ski instructor at Weiss Knob and Canaan Valley ski areas. “OB” loved his family and the out of doors.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held at Hinkle Funeral Chapel Feb. 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Fred Soltow and Mr. John Cooper officiating. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  From 14 Feb 2005. 

Ronald J. Collins
On Saturday, Aug, 6, 2005, it was discovered that Ronald Joe Collins of Junior had suddenly and unexpectedly made his way to the clear blue fishing hole in the sky, where the fish are always biting.
Joe was born in Valley Head Sept. 13, 1943.
He graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1962. Joe then traveled around the United States during his four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. After honorably serving his country as a sergeant, Joe entered the private sector and worked for many years with the General Electric Corp., earning the distinctive title of top salesman. He eventually returned to West Virginia to open his own repair business, General Repair and Service Co. GRASCo was headquartered for many years in Beverly, under the very popular Beverly Roller Skating Rink, which Joe ran as well. Most recently, Joe had been enjoying semi-retirement and chasing down trout.
Joe is survived by his former spouse, Barbara Rosin of Minneapolis, Minn., whom he married in 1963, and their four children, Ann “Mikki” and husband, Allen Griffin, of Carrollton, Ga., Gail J. and husband, Dave Phares, of Beverly, Robin M. Escobar of Minneapolis, Minn., and Christopher L. and wife, Kayla Collins, of Belington. He was proud of his grandchildren: Brooke, Dustin, Elizabeth, and Autumn of Beverly, Kristina, Toby, and Dorothy of Minneapolis, Minn., and Callee of Belington.
Joe was fortunate to regularly keep in touch with his siblings, all of whom survive him. They are Ken and Marguita Collins of Arizona, Milton and Dottie Collins of Florida, Melvin Collins of Virginia, Norma and Lonnie Gibson of Mill Creek, Mary Ann and Robert Maher of California, Avis and Deane Collins of Beverly, Velair and Kathy Collins of Elkins and Kathy and Ronnie Long of Maryland.
Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond L. and Hazel Carpenter Collins; a nephew, Kenny Collins; and a niece, Julie Tumblin.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. The Rev. Norma Gibson will be officiating the celebration of Joe’s life scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12, at 3 p.m. at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington with a reception following the service. Stanley R. Collins Sr.
Stanley Ralph Collins Sr., 69, of Thomas, passed away Dec. 1, 2005, at the home of his sister-in-law, Margaret J. Collins, where he had resided for the past two years.
He was born April 12, 1936, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Cecil Guy and Ivy Daisy Belle Welch Collins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazie Marie Collins, in 1999.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Pamela; two brothers, Bueford and Raymond; one sister, Dorothy; and one grandson.
Survivors include four sons, Stanley R. Collins Jr. and Raymond Collins, both of Thomas, Dwayne Collins of Terra Alta and Timothy Collins of Huttonsville; two daughters, Evona and Stanley Moats of Aurora and Misty and Brian Saunders of Kingwood; two brothers, Ronald Collins of Wadestown and Eugene Collins of Century; two sisters, Evangaline Watson and Verdinia Lawson, both of Galloway;12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Collins was a retired coal miner for Consol Energy. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America District 31, Mountain Top Hunt Club and the Pentecostal Church of Brownton.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis today from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert E. Connell
Robert Edwards Connell, 75, of Charleston, died Saturday, March 26, 2005.
Bob was born April 12, 1929, in Charleston, the son of the late Ellison and Nelle Connell.
He attended Capital Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Charleston High School in 1946. He was a 1950 graduate of Washington and Lee University and a Life Loyal Sigma Chi.
Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He returned to the Kanawha Valley, where he has been a lifelong resident. He worked for more than 40 years in the family business, The Kanawha Drug Co., which was founded by his grandfather, Waller Edwards Connell, in 1901. He subsequently worked for Miami Luken Drug Co., the Equitable Life Assurance Society and CAMC General Division Pharmacy.
Bob was an active member of the Baptist Temple his entire life, where he was a member of the Board of Deacons and served in other church roles. He enjoyed running and finished the Chicago Marathon in 1986. He also ran in the Charleston Distance Run every year since 1974. He completed 22 consecutive 15-mile races through 1995, and ran in the 5K every year thereafter. He pursued and received an associate degree in computer science in 1979 from West Virginia State College.
Bob is survived by Joanne “Jody” Woodrum Connell, his wife of 52 years, and his sister, Nancy Connell Blagg of South Charleston. He is also survived by three children and their spouses, Gary and Brenda Connell of Buckhannon; Dana and Laura Connell of Winnetka, Ill., and Carrie and James Bullock of Winston-Salem, N.C. Bob had seven grandchildren, Jessica Gross and Ben Connell, Sarah, Lindsay and Jane Connell, and Anna Blair and Thomas Bullock; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Baptist Temple in Charleston with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery at Charleston The family has suggested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Baptist Temple in Charleston. Paul C. Conner* [probably Bonner]
Paul Cleon Conner*, 77, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Thursday evening, Nov. 10, 2005, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born Aug. 25, 1928, at Mill Run, Tucker County, a son of the late Ira Lakin Bonner and Lena Carr Bonner.
On July 17, 1955, at Oakland, Md., he was married to Betty Lee Snyder, who survives. They celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cathy Ann Lee and husband, Todd, of Hambleton; two brothers, Coy Bonner and wife, Pat, of Dryfork and Don Bonner and wife, Louise, of Parsons; and two granddaughters, Sheree Nicole Bowley and Tayler O’Bryen Lee, both of Hambleton.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, Danny Cleon Bonner; five brothers, Forrest, Gerald, Stanley, Roscoe and Charles Bonner; and one sister, Naomi Bonner Sinclair.
He attended the school at Mill Run and Parsons High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, served during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star. He enjoyed antiques and bottle collecting. He will always be remembered for his gentleness and quiet mannerism.

Beulah “Sis” Cook, 80, of Seneca Rocks, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 21, 1924, at Onego, a daughter of the late Sheridan Long and Mary Jane “Maude” Vance.
She was married to Fred Charles Cook, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1979.
Surviving are six daughters, Mary Frances Thompson of Riverton, Kathleen V. Yost of Seneca Rocks, Eva Jean Clark of Cabins, Rose Ann Sites of Riverton, Diana Sue Hinkle of Petersburg and Betty Louise Raines of Riverton; three sons, Charles Edward “Sonny” Cook of Upper Tract, David Dwight Cook of Riverton and Bradley Earl Cook of Harrisonburg, Va.; four brothers, Grover Long of Onego, John Long of Seneca Rocks, Kermit Long of Jersey Shore, Pa., and Milton Long of Onego; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Richard Sites of Seneca Rocks.
Also preceding her in death were one infant son; three brothers, Earl, Fred and Warren; and two sisters, Hazel Mallow and Bertie Hevener.
She was a homemaker and mother and a member of the Assembly of God.

Grace M. Flanagan Cook, 89, a former resident of Coalton and more recently a resident of Nella’s Incorporated at Crystal Springs, departed this life Wednesday evening, Feb. 16, 2005, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Thursday, May 13, 1915, at Coalton, a daughter of the late William R. Flanagan and Ruth Ellen Gallager Flanagan.
She was married to Arthur Donald Cook, who preceded her in death during 1982.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna M. “Cookie” Cook of Louisville, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were eight brothers and sisters.
She was a graduate of Coalton High School, was a homemaker and a Presbyterian by faith.
Mrs. Cook’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Phillips Cemetery at Jimtown. Joseph Cook
Joseph Cook, 78, of Wheeling, formerly of Elkins and Fairmont, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center in Wheeling.
He was born July 27, 1926, in Elkins, the son of the late James and Vernie Tingler Cook.
He was a former heavy equipment operator in the Operating Engineer Union and an Army veteran of World War II.
Joe was a member of the Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling in Fairmont and Morgantown and a member of the board of directors of the U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Evans Cook in 1993; five brothers, Emmitt, Ernest, Roy, Jack and James Cook; and three sisters, Ina Lambert, Hazel Lambert and Edna Fleming.
Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Frohnapfel Rust Cook, three children, Kenneth Cook and wife, Sandy, of Capon Bridge, Keith Cook and wife, Judy, of Fairmont and Karol Swiger of Fairmont; five bothers, Paul Cook of Canton, Ohio, George Cook of Elkins, Howard Cook of Shadyside, Ohio, Gene “Buck” Cook of Elkins and Jerry Cook of Russia; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Michael Rust and wife, Jean, of Lawrenceville, Ga., David Rust and wife, Rosanne, of Meadville, Pa., Kathleen Rust of Wheeling and James Rust of Pittsburgh, Pa.; six stepgrandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also known as “Beloved Pap Joe” to seven local children and worked endlessly to support the West Virginia Children’s Home in Elkins.
Friends will be received today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St. in Wheeling, where vigil services will be held at 7:45 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Wheeling with the Rev. Thomas Lamont Coontz, 80, a resident of 1319 Livingston Ave., Elkins, departed this life Sunday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department. He had been in declining health for the past two months.
He was born Saturday, Oct. 25, 1924, at Barbour County, a son of the late Camden R. Coontz and Delta Sharps Coontz.
On Oct. 5, 1952, he was married to the former Margie Rhodes, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Thomas Leslie Coontz and wife, Mary K., of Beverly; one brother, Keith Coontz of Elkins; three grandchildren, Matthew Coontz of Wheeling, John Coontz, a student at Concord College, and Kathryn Coontz of Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were one brother, Ralph Coontz; and one sister, Louise Wilson.
He attended the schools of Barbour County and was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy. He had worked for the Elkins Laundry and then for Ideal Cleaners for 15 years. He was a van driver for Appalachian Community Health Center for 15 years and along with his wife, Margie, worked for WDNE for 26 years. He enjoyed playing music and could be seen nearly every week playing the violin and guitar at Nella’s Nursing Home, Davis & Elkins College and the Elkins City Park.

Robert D. Cooper
Robert Dale Cooper, 69, a resident of Beverly, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, in the emergency department of Davis Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 21, 1935, at Fairmont, the only child of Marie W. Moore, who survives at Beverly.
Also surviving are his wife, Cheryl Sue McGee Cooper, of Beverly; two sons, Kevin Dale Cooper and wife, Michele, of Elkins and Kelly David Cooper and wife, Erin, of Beverly; four grandchildren, Katelin Maria Cooper, Nathan Charles Cooper, Nicholas Ted Cooper and Ciara Neil Cooper; and two very special friends, Paul Bender and Herb Coberly.
Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were looking forward to the birth of a fifth grandchild, due in August 2005.
Mr. Cooper worked for Smith Lumber Co. for several years. He retired from CSX, where he worked as a conductor and brakeman. He was a member of BPOE Lodge 1135 of Elkins for more than 45 years. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed dirt track racing and excelled at roller-skating and tennis. In his earlier years, he was an active member of Elkins High School Athletic Boosters. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper owned and operated Sophisticats Tanning Salon for many years. He was a Baptist by faith.
At the request of the deceased, his remains will be cremated. Donald Eldorus Corbin, 82, a resident of 115 Ellis Ave., Elkins, departed this life Wednesday evening, Oct. 26, 2005, at his home following a short illness.
He was born Sunday, May 27, 1923, at Elkins, a son of the late Harry Walter Corbin and Florence Anna Hiner Corbin.
On May 10, 1945, at Elkins, he was married to the former Ruth Basil Corbin, who preceded him in death Nov. 2, 2001. Surviving are one son, Donald L. Corbin and wife, Sonja, of Elkins; three daughters, Carolyn “Susie” Ware and husband, Lewis, of Elkins, Brenda Ruth Romine and husband, Thomas, of Sumerco and Betsy L. Jones and husband, James “Randy,” of Elkins; two brothers, Robert L. Corbin of Elkins and Troy Eugene Corbin of Decatur, Ala.; six grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were three brothers, Harry Junior, Ersel “Warren” and James “Jimmy” Corbin; and two sisters, Anna L. Stalnaker and Mary A. Richards.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1941 and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 in the Pacific and Atlantic aboard the USS Clay & Stanton. He excelled at the position of “Shortstop” for the “Hilltoppers” of the Elkins Softball League during the early 1940s, was an avid golfer known as the “Designated Putter,” coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and was a faithful attendee of the U.S. Naval reunion of the USS Clay & Stanton since 1980. He was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring Oct. 1, 1985, was a member of the Elkins Lodge 1135 BPOE, the H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center and First United Methodist Church.

Jean Currence Corley, 78, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at 2:05 p.m. at her residence. She had been in failing health for the past several years and her condition had become critical within the last week.
Born Aug. 21, 1926, at Mill Creek, she was the daughter of the late Hileary and Ethel Jordan Currence.
On Dec. 29, 1929, at the Elkins First Baptist Church, she was united in marriage to the Rev. John Kenneth Corley, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1997.
Jean is survived by a son and daughter in law, Carolyn Channell and husband, Gary, of Elkins; five sons and daughters-in-law, John Kenneth Corley Jr. and wife, Lesa, Montie Ray Corley and wife, Julie, Mickie Lee Corley and wife, Patricia, Keith Allen Corley and wife, Beth, all of Elkins, and Dewaine Anderson Corley and wife, Lorna, of Kearneysville; three sisters, Nellie Shiflett and Beatrice Markley, both of Mill Creek, and Lucille Hamrick of Mogadore, Ohio; and three brothers, George “Andy” Currence and wife, Wilda, and William “Bill” Currence, all of Mill Creek, and Woodrow “Wilson” Currence and wife, Betty, of Elkins.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, eight stepgreat-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
