Russell E. Wiant Jr.
Russell E. Wiant Jr., 51, a resident of Route 3, Norris Road, Philippi, passed away at 4:33 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, at his residence. Death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Oct. 14, 1950, in Gilmer County, a son of Russell E. Wiant, who survives at Gilmer County, and the late Lucy M. Helmick Wiant.
He was united in marriage on May 4, 1979, to the former Emma J. McGee, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Donald Bollman, Portage, Pa.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Junior Blaine and wife, Susie Wiant, Belington, and Chad R. Wiant, at home; one sister, Linda Tomey, Webster Springs; two half sisters, Shelia Queen, Glenville, and Louise Wiant, Linn; two brothers, Darell E. Wiant, Gilmer County, and Larry G. Wiant, Esca, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Megan Wiant, Miranda Gray, T.J. Gray, Sara Bollman and Shannon Bollman.
He was employed as a truck driver for Talbott Lumber Co. at Belington. He was a minister at Hunter's Fork Pentecostal Church.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 7 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Shirley Webster officiating. The eulogy will be given by the Rev. Richard Webster. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. From 20 May 2002.

Coleman E. Wilfong
Coleman E. Wilfong, 85, of 111 Randolph St., Buckhannon, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at his home in Buckhannon. He was under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice Care.
He was born June 12, 1917, in Tallmansville, a son of the late Cain and Ellen Tenney Wilfong.
On Dec. 8, 1939, he married Mary Lena Warner Wilfong, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two sons, Lonnie Wilfong, Buckhannon, and David Wilfong, French Creek; three daughters, Mary Ellen Miracle, Palm Bay, Fla., Helen Bennett, Statesville, N.C., and Linda Jarrell, Charleston; one sister, Frantie Warner, Hodgesville; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one stepgreat-grandson and six stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Katherine Wilfong; one son, Robert Wilfong; one daughter, Ruth Ann Hamilton; three brothers, Opha Wilfong, Emerson Wilfong and Carroll Wilfong; five sisters, Ora Bennett, Ethel Wilfong, Myrtle Hornbeck, Addie Mae Wilfong and Reta Pearl Wilfong.
He was a security guard for West Virginia Wesleyan College and Coastal Lumber.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Herbert G. Wilfong
Herbert Golden Wilfong, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, after a battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his loving family lead by his wife of 58 years, Shirley.
He was born June 22, 1921, one of 12 children, to Charles and Addie Reed Wilfong in Buckhannon.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army transferring to the Air Force and was a belly gunnar on a B-17 during World War II. He met and married Shirley Mae Lucas while stationed at Truax Field in Madison, Wisc. After the war he returned to Madison raising a family, working for Pet Milk Company and Coyle Carpeting. He and Shirley moved to Colorado Springs in 1972 to open and manage a new Coyle Carpet Store.
After his retirement he enjoyed his family, playing golf, fishing and he took great pride in his garden.
Survivors in addition to his wife are one son, Richard, and wife, Donna Wilfong; and four daughters, Becky and husband, Temple, Jerri and husband Robert Brooks, Linda Garcarski and Billie Jean and husband, Robert Pierstorff.
He was preceded in death by one son, Herbert James "Jim" Wilfong; one sister, Clara Hibbs; one sister-in-law, Peg Wilfong; one brother-in-law, Ozzol Smith; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A private service was held at Swan Law Funeral Directors for family members. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Suite 600, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80903. From 27 Nov 2002.

Jack Wilfong Sr.
Jack Wilfong Sr., 88, a former resident of Elkins, passed away July 20, 2002, in Eau Claire, Wisc., following an extended illness.
He was born March 29, 1914 in Montrose, the son of the late Roy and Dove Gainer Wilfong.
On Oct. 29, 1937, he married Hazel Allender, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1992.
He is survived by one son, Jack Wilfong and wife, Susan, of Eau Clare, Wisc.; two granddaughters, two grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. John (Sara) Scallon.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College, where he was a member of the football team.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by the West Penn Electric Co., a Veterans Administration Hospital, was director of the Elkins YMCA, was employed by Ohio State University, and at the time of his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated a maintenance contracting company in Louisville, Ky.
He was a former member of the Elkins Fire Department and the First United Methodist Church of Elkins. He had been a member of the Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM for more than 50 years.

Lillian G. Wilfong
Lillian Gertrude "Trudy" Wilfong, 94, of Cleveland Ave., Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at 11:45 p.m. in Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
Mrs. Wilfong was born Dec. 15, 1907, at Pickens, a daughter of Arthur Wally and Rhoda House Hardway.
On Feb. 14, 1923, she married Lee Burner Wilfong, who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1950.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Lewis, Buckhannon; three grandsons, David Wilfong and Kevin Wilfong, both of Chicago, Ill., and William Wilfong, Buckhannon; and one granddaughter, Deborah Verace, Arlington, Texas.
She was preceded in death by one son, Wallace Lee Wilfong.
She was a past member of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Business of Professional Women and a member of Buckhannon VFW 3663 Women’s Auxiliary. She attended First Baptist Church of Buckhannon.
A private family service will be conducted. Interment will be in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 19 Nov 2002.

James D. Wilkins
James Dyer Wilkins, 67, of Riverton, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 1, 1935, at Elkins, a son of the late Jack C. Wilkins and Dorothy Dyer Wilkins.
He was a farmer. He was a member of the Circleville Presbyterian Church, West Virginia Farm Bureau, a charter member of the National Cattleman’s Association, West Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, National Rifle Association and past director of Pendleton County Bank.
On June 14, 1960, he married Jane Fisher Wilkins, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, James Dyer Wilkins II and wife, Cynthia S. Wilkins, of Riverton, Ann Wilkins Daughtry and husband, Darren R. Daughtry, of Auburn, Pa., and John Andrew Wilkins and wife, Carmen Rexrode, of Milam; two sisters, Jacqueline W. Upp of Cecilton, Md., and Dorothy W. Miller of Blacksburg, Va.; one brother, Jack C. Wilkins of Hillsboro; and eight grandchildren, Tyler Wilkins, Hannah Wilkins, Dorothy Daughtry, Jane Daughtry, Earl Daughtry, Arlan Daughtry, Joseph Wilkins and Simon Wilkins.
He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Fisher Wilkins, on Dec. 16, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Circleville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Cox officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Circleville Presbyterian Church. Betty A. Williams
Betty Anne Durrett Williams, 79, a former resident of Charleston, S.C., and a resident of Valentine’s Personal Care Home, Elkins, departed this life at 11:05 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the personal care home. She had been in declining health for the past year.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1922, at Elkins, a daughter of the late O.B. Durrett, and Maudeline Gertrude Scott Durrett.
She was married to Retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel William Otis "Bill" Williams, who preceded her in death during 1990.
Surviving are three sons, William Jeffrey Williams, Elkins, Gregory Paxton Williams, Louisville, Ky., and Dan Durrett Williams, Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Patty Anne Rothenburg, Tallahassee, Fla., and Susan Jane Wilson, Mahopac, N.Y.; one sister, Velma Brown, Reading, Pa.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Flick.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1939, and attended Bowling Green College. She was a homemaker and attended Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church of Elkins and was an avid bridge player.
Friends will be received at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Falter officiating. Cremation will follow with inurnment of cremains at Arlington National Cemetery at Arlington, Va., at a later date. Clyde A. Williams
Clyde Arnold Williams, 89, of Hacker Valley, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Webster Continuous Care in Cowen following a long illness.
Mr. Williams was born May 31, 1913, at Marpleton, a son of the late George and Nancy Lake Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Brown Williams, Cowen; four sons, Carl E. Williams, Buckhannon, Archie Williams, Cleveland, Ohio, Cecil Williams, Jerrys Run, and Frankie Williams, Replete; three daughters, Winnie Queen and Ruby Helmick, both of Buckhannon, and Frances Harper, Sutton; four brothers, Roscoe W. Williams, Belington, Jess W. Williams, Monongah, Wilbert Williams, Goodman, Mo., and George (June) Williams Jr., Kingmont; 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers one sister and one great-grandchild.
He was a lifelong resident of Webster County. He was a woodsman and attended Hacker Valley Baptist Church in Hacker Valley. He had a great love for the outdoors and especially horses.

Louise Williamson
Louise Williamson, a lifetime resident of Route 4, 4-H community, Philippi, succumbed at 3:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at her residence, of a short illness while under the care of Mountain Hospice.
She was born in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Guy Albert and Bessie Dove Upton Williamson.
Surviving are one aunt, Neva Upton Hershman, Route 2, Philippi; close friends and caregivers during his latter years: Reta Upton Burner and husband, Mike, Route 2, Belington; and many cousins and friends.
She was a 1937 graduate of Philippi High School and attended Alderson-Broaddus College for two years. She began a teaching career in 1942. She taught for 43 years in Barbour County Schools, 17 years of which she served as principal and teacher combined. She taught 21 years at Silent Grove Normal School, Corley School, one year at Mt. Vernon and 13 years at Union.
She was a 60-year member of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge 275.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after noon today. Dorcas Rebekah Lodge 275 will conduct memorial services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Rev. Dr. Urvan Wills
The Rev. Dr. Urvan E. Wills, 96, of Weston, passed away, Friday, June 8, 2002, following an extended illness.
He was born at Elkins on May 22, 1906, a son of the late Harry U. and Grace Brown Wills.
On June 18, 1928, he married the former Ethel M. Corder, who preceded him in death in April of 1996.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Taylor and husband, Earl D., Charleston; one son and daughter-in-law, Don U. Wills and wife, Virginia, Weston; five grandchildren, Douglas Taylor, Fairmont, David Taylor, Charleston, Leigh Taylor, Charleston, Mrs. Dan (Debby) Clark, Danville, and Mrs. Gilbert (Donna) Adams, Crestwood, Ky.; and six great-grandchildren, Erin and Jennifer Taylor, Fairmont, Michael and Brandon Taylor, Charleston, and Levi and Kyle Clark, Danville.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Carol Ann Wills; one brother, Herbert Wills; and one sister, Mrs. Leola Flowers.
Mr. Wills was a 1923 graduate of Elkins High School and a 1927 graduate of Davis & Elkins College. He was a 1930 graduate of Boston University with a degree in sacred theology. He received his doctor of divinity degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1956.
He has been a Methodist minister since 1927, serving in the Massachusetts Conference until 1930, when he returned to West Virginia and became a full member of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in 1931.
At the time of his death, he was the longest serving minister of the West Virginia Conference. He served churches in Nitro, Terra Alta, Richwood, Spencer, Weston and Bluefield. He served twice as district superintendent, first in the Beckley District and later in the Bluefield District. He also served as assistant to the statistician of the West Virginia Annual Conference from 1931 to 1937, assistant to the secretary of the West Virginia Annual Conference from 1937 to 1942, and secretary of the West Virginia Annual Conference from 1942 to 1961.
Following his retirement in 1971, he was appointed and served as parish visitor of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston from 1974 until 1994.
Friends may call at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Weston, Tuesday from noon until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. John Neagley and the Rev. Dr. Michael Linger officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood IOOF Cemetery in Elkins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ministries of Memories Fund of the St. Matthew United Methodist at 120 E. Arbutis C. Wilson
Arbutis Collett Wilson, 63, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to respiratory failure.
She was born Aug. 23, 1939, at Hambelton, a daughter of the late Howard P. Collett and Elma Mallow Collett.
On March 8, 1960, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Clinton K. Wilson, who survives. They had celebrated 42 years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, David Lee Kyle and wife, Amber, of Parsons; two daughters, Debra Lynn Goss and husband, John, and Cynthia Kay "Cindy" Helmick, all of Parsons; two brothers, John Collett and Maxine, Thomas, and Roger Lee Collett and Mildred, Parsons; and seven grandchildren, Melissa Arnold, Jeffrey "Buck" Helmick, Kelsey and Kenzie Kyle, all of Parsons, Angie Helmick, Morgantown, David Kyle, Clarksburg, and Kayla Kyle, Frederick, Md.
She attended the Hamrick School at Hendricks, Parsons High School and graduated from Davis & Elkins College with the class of 1968 as a licensed practical nurse. She worked for the former Memorial General Hospital at Elkins for 18 years. She was a member of the Nurse’s Association and was a co-founder of the Concerned Citizens Coalition of Parsons, the "Cookie Ladies." She had a great love for flowers, gardening and most of all, her children.
Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday at 1 p.m. Pastor Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery. Betty Lou Wilson
Betty Lou Wilson, 70, a resident of 6 Eagle St., Buckhannon, died at 1:42 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
She was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late Paul and Vera "Shine" Linger Reed.
On Nov. 26, 1950, she was married to Lewis Joe Wilson, who preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2000.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Debbie) Groggs, Buckhannon; two sons, Gary Roger Wilson and wife, Nancy, Buckhannon, and Joe Michael Wilson and wife, Frances, Coalton; one brother, Harold Reed, Greensburg, Ind.; six granddaughters, Roxy Wilson, Volga, Erica Groggs, Heather Groggs and Lori Hull, all of Buckhannon, Beth Rickman, Baton Rouge, La., and Elizabeth Ann Wilson, Coalton; three grandsons, Joey Carpenter, Philippi, and Nick Wilson and Chris Wilson, both of Coalton; and one great-grandson, Dillon Carpenter, Philippi.
Mrs. Wilson was a seamstress and worked for Reidbord Brothers. She attended Light Chapel Church and was a member of the Fishing Camp Community Educational Outreach Service.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Mark Davis, the Rev. Ralph Miller and the Rev. Joan C. Wilson
Joan C. Fortney Wilson, 69, of Route 4, Buckhannon, the Kesling Mill Community, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mrs. Wilson was born April 1, 1933, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late James Oscar and Milo Madline Jack Fortney.
She married Charles Wilson, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are her stepmother, Ruthie Fortney of Buckhannon; one daughter, Debra and husband, Jose Rolenson, of Route 4, Buckhannon, the Kesling Mill Community; five sons, Jeffrey and wife, Janis Ball, Carlton and wife, Carla Ball, Timothy and wife, Joyce Ball, Scott and wife, Coachie Ball, and Patrick and wife, Rebecca Ball, all of Route 4, Buckhannon, the Kesling Mill Community; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a special friend, Robert Phillips, Elkins; two sisters, Josephine Sines, Raleigh, N.C., and Katherine Jane Deering, Washington; one brother, James Fortney, Buckhannon; five half sisters, Junie Trainer, Bonnie Tenney, Diane Wright and Pam Landis, all of Buckhannon, and Mary Chandler, Port Orange, Fla.; and two half brothers, Ronald Fortney and Bob Fortney, Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Jean Colman and Ruthie Eckes.
Mrs. Wilson was a personal care giver and senior companion. She attended South Buckhannon Mission Church.

John Harry Wilson
John Harry Wilson, 86, former mayor and a resident of Parsons, departed this life Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to a stroke.
He was born April 12, 1916, at Belington, a son of the late Francis Creed Wilson and Bessie Myers Wilson.
On Oct. 10, 1949, at New Jersey, he was married to the former Virginia Cousin Orr, who survives.
Also surviving are one stepson, David J. Orr and wife, Donna, Parsons; one stepdaughter, Carole Orr Daniel, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Judy Orr Ingham and husband, Larry, Parsons; one brother, Calvin Wilson, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Debbie Daniel, Karen Daniel Lee, Paul E. Daniel Jr., Melanie Bava Edmond, Susan Bava Heckler, Jade Orr Knick, Hiedi Orr, Jeremy Lawrence; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Francis Wilson, Cootz Wilson and Cecil Wilson; and five sisters, Claudia Workman, Beatrice Ramsey, Virginia Delbaglivio, Ruth Massonia and Beulah Yoak.
He attended the schools of Barbour County. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II at the Battle of Normandy with the 101st Airborne, 32nd Medical Division, and served as an instructor of parachute school. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Garnett Post No. 4322 and the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion, and the Parsons Chapter 39 IOOF. He was a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks.
He was owner and operator of the former Dry Cleaning Service at Parsons. He worked for the State Department of West Virginia, the Veterans of Foreign Wars for eight years and the former Parsons Forestry Industry at Hendricks as a supervisor. During the late 1960s, he became owner of the Orr-Wilson Insurance Co. He served four terms as mayor of Parsons and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Parsons.

Leonard Gail Wilson, 67, a resident of Belington, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born May 23, 1935, at Belington, a son of the late Charles David and Minnie Harris Wilson.
On June 18, 1957, at Tallmadge, Ohio, he was married to Shirley Mae Gross, who survives at Belington.
Also surviving are two sons, Leonard Wilson and Steven Wilson, both of Belington; three daughters, Cherry Lynn Triplett, Belington, Patricia Ann Brobst, Parsons, and DeAnn Marie Howell of Beverly; four brothers, Charles and Joseph Wilson, both of Akron, Ohio, Francis and Richard Wilson, both of Belington; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Robin Jean Wilson; and one brother, Robert Wayne Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was employed by Monongahela Power prior to becoming disabled. He was an avid CB’er whose handle was "Thunderbird." He was a member of the Calvary Southern Baptist Church.

Ruth J. Wilson
Ruth Janet Wilson, 84, of 317 Hoff St., Belington, died early Sunday evening, Jan. 6, 2002, in Talbott Personal Care Home. She had been in declining health since shortly after Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Wilson was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Hammond community near Grafton, a daughter of the late Issac and Ethel Mitchell Haddix.
On March 3, 1934, she married Ivan Ray Wilson, who preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Etheleen) Shaw, Belington; a son, Billy Ray Wilson and wife, Shirley, Belington; a brother, Howard Haddix, Canton, Ohio; three sisters, Myrtle Upton, Betty Edens and Delores Kennedy, all of Philippi; two grandchildren, Kathie DeGard, Whiting, Ind., and Randy Shaw, Akron, Ohio; two great-granddaughters, Kiesha Duke, Indianapolis, Ind., and Kristina Shaw, Fleetwood, Pa.; and two great-great-grandsons, Ethan Duke and Eli Duke, both of Indianapolis, Ind.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Isner and Norma Humphreys; and two brothers, Bill Haddix and Calvin Haddix.
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker. She attended Light of Christ Chapel in Belington.

Dr. Thomas Wilson
Dr. Thomas Lynn Wilson, 95, died in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Baptist Hospital East.
He was born in Philippi, Nov. 17, 1906. He was a 1927 graduate of Broaddus College.
He was manager of Workman’s Department Store in Philippi from the 1930s until World War II, when he served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the hospital ship, the USS General Scott.
After World War II, he attended and graduated from the California School of Chiropody and practiced his profession in Clarksburg, until his retirement. He was a life member of the American Podiatric Medical Association.
Dr. Wilson was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
He is survived by one sister, Bettie J. Wolford of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

John William Wilt
John William Wilt, 85, a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Belington and a former resident of Stalnaker Road, Philippi, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, in the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born Dec. 17, 1916, in Preston County, the son of the late Frank and Beluah Jenkins Wilt.
He was united in marriage to the former Floray F. Gronfeld, who survives at Belington.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda and husband, Carl Paitsel, Mineral, Va., and Susan M. Williams, Philippi; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and wife, Ellen Wilt, Acworth, Ga.; one sister, Frances Lambert, Burgettstown, Pa.; two brothers, Frank Wilt and Woody Wilt, both of Newburg; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, John Wilt Jr.; and two daughters, Debbie Nolan and Shelia F. Wilt.
Mr. Wilt was a retired coal miner and co-owner of Wilt Welding and Machine Shop at Philippi. He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.
He was a United Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Erma Virginia Winans, 79, of Chestnut Street, Belington, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, following a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922, near Boulder community, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Daisy Lantz Winans.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Connie Sue and Larry Shahan, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, Robert Chester Shahan and Clista Dawn Shahan, both of Chestnut Street, Belington; and nine nieces and nephews, Donna Jo Weese, Deloras Jean Wagner, Denver James Winans, Darlene Joy Murphy, Donald Junior Winans, Jerry Ray Anderson, Elwood Rosencrance, Ray Rosencrance and Dianne Suder.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Margie Anderson; and one brother, Donald Winans.
Ms. Winans was a member of the Belington Church of Christ and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Laurel Mountain Post 410, VFW.

Easter Lilly Wingate, 58, of Buckhannon Manor, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 16, 1943, at Brooks Hill, a daughter of Effie Butcher Lewis, who survives.
She is survived by her first husband, Harold Claude Humphrey Sr. of Pricetown. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Kenny Wingate.
She is also survived by two daughters, Linda L. Rowan of Volga, and Brenda Jones of Buckhannon; one son, Harold Humphrey Jr. of Buckhannon; eight grandchildren, Charlotte Carpenter of Jacksonville, N.C., John Humphrey and Michael Humphrey, both of Buckhannon, Sheila and Shelley Rowan, both of Volga, Travis, Heidi and Kody Humphrey, all of Buckhannon; four brothers, George Huffman of Elyria, Ohio, Leon Bender, Dave Bender and Randy Bender, all of Buckhannon; four sisters, Eden Bender, Donna Baughman, Daisy Ware and Faye Bender, all of Buckhannon.
Mrs. Wingate was a hospice volunteer. She had formerly worked as an aide at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She attended the Liberty in Christ Church.

Oliver Leroy Wingfield, 95, a resident of Chenoweth Creek Road, passed away at 12:36 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital emergency department in Buckhannon.
He was born June 19, 1906, at Kerens, a son of the late Frederick and Ella Messenger Wingfield.
He was twice married. First to Beatrice Wingfield, who preceded him in death in 1952. He later married Georgia Schoonover Wingfield, who survives at Chenoweth Creek.
Also surviving are four sons, Billy Wingfield, Richwood, Ronald Wingfield, Madina, Ohio, Frank Wingfield, Elkins, and Leroy "Lee" Wingfield Jr. of Elkins; four daughters, Donna Bonner and Deena Drain, both of Elkins, Sharon Tustin, Ohio, and Charlotte Johnson of Morgantown; one brother, Henry Wingfield, Hughesville, Pa.; one half brother, Kenneth Wingfield of Valley Bend; two sisters, Violet Hardy, Parsons, and Pearl Stewart of Elkins; one half sister, Ruth Wingfield of Elkins; 27 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Marlene Reiss; three brothers, Gar, Walter and Charles Wingfield; two half brothers, Howard and Buddy Wingfield; and one sister, Louise Wingfield.
Mr. Wingfield was employed as a coal miner having retired from Roaring Creek Coal Co.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and attended the Harts Chapel Church at Chenoweth Creek and Abundant Life Christian Center in Beverly.

Charles Winkler Sr.
Charles "Chuck" Winkler Sr., 62, of 25 Carol St., Buckhannon, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Mr. Winkler was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Ohio, a son of Mary Willison Winkler, who survives in Coshocton, Ohio, and the late Emmett Winkler.
On June 13, 1959, he married Betty Underwood Winkler, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Zickefoose and Karen Peeso, both of Buckhannon; a son, Charles Winkler Jr., Orange, Va.; four grandsons, David Hamner Jr. and Josh Simons, both of Buckhannon, Charles T. Winkler and Seth Winkler, both of Orange, Va.; two granddaughters, Crystal Miller, Canton, Ohio, and Misty Miller, Buckhannon; a great-grandson, Cyrus, Buckhannon; and a great-granddaughter, Charity, Canton, Ohio.
Mr. Winkler was a self-employed contractor. He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post 7, American Legion and Upshur Co. Chamber of Commerce.
He was a Methodist by faith.

Robert C. Winston
Robert C. Winston, 44, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.
He was born March 5, 1958, at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C.
He was born the son of John Winston, Fairmont, and the late Velda Watring Winston and Charles and Francis Winston of Riverview, Fla.
He is survived by two stepsons, William Murphy of Mill Creek, and James Baker of Pennsylvania; four brothers, Kevin Winston, Woodbridge, Va., John "Rocky" Winston, Inwood, and Brian and Charlie Winston of Riverview, Fla.; and one sister, Karen Teter of Mill Creek.
He was a member of the Parsons High School Class of 1975 and received an associate degree in computer programming through Davis & Elkins College in 1997. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. serving from 1975 until 1979 and was employed by Civic Development Group of Elkins.
At the request of the deceased, his remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Leadmine United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Leard officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, West Virginia Affiliate, PO Box 11062, Charleston, W.Va. 25339 in memory of Mr. Winston. Mr. Wooddell was born March 12, 1931, at Augusta, a son of the late Forest and Belle Taylor Wooddell.
He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the Elks, the American Legion and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Herbert Wooddell; one brother, Clyde Wardel Wooddell; and one grandchild, Mark Perkins.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Jamison of Morgantown, and Sue Savage of Clio, Mich.; one sister, Mary Margaret Darby of Adelaide, Australia; one brother, Forrest Wooddell of Green Bank; three grandchildren, Marcia Perkins, Matthew Weser and Catie Hussion; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren Hussion and Sarah Hussion.

Burley Austin Woods, 89, a resident of the Poe Run community for the past 82 years, passed away at 5:30 a.m. today, July 18, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health since 1999.
He was born Nov. 20, 1912, at Whitmer, the son of the late James and Florence Jeanette Hedrick Bennett Woods.
On June 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Rev. Rachel Amanda Fansler, who preceded him in death on June 20, 1999.

Burley A. Woods
Burley Austin Woods, 89, a resident of the Poe Run community for the past 82 years, passed away at 4:14 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health since 1999.
Born Nov. 20, 1912, at Whitmer, he was the son of the late James and Florence Jeanette Hedrick Bennett Woods.
On June 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to the former Rev. Rachel Amanda Fansler, who preceded him in death on June 20, 1999.
Mr. Woods is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roscoe (Mary K.) Thompson and the Rev. Conley (Dianna F.) Ogden, both of the Poe Run community; three sons, Ricky Fansler and wife, Deanna, Burley A. Woods II and wife, Donna, and George Woods, all of the Poe Run community.
Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, several stepgreat-grandchildren, one stepgreat-great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Woods was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by two brothers, James A. and Elmer G. Woods; two half brothers, Truman and Omer Bennett; one grandson, Randall Lynn Thompson; and three great-grandchildren.
Burley was a coal miner and retired from the Allegheny Lumber Co. with several years of service. During his remaining years he worked on his own land as a farmer. He attended the Abundant Life Christian Center in Beverly.
He was a veteran and served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
Friends will be received after 7 p.m. today at the Abundant Life Christian Center where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Curlie Ray Jr., the Rev. A.H. Belt and the Rev. Brice Utt will officiate. Interment will follow in the American Legion Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale. The Tygart Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion will conduct full military services at the gravesite. From 19 July 2002.

John W. Woods
John William Woods, 62, of 302 Nathan St., Elkins, died Saturday morning, Aug. 3, 2002, at his home. He had been in ill health, but death was unexpected.
He was born June 30, 1940, at Gage, Barbour County, a son of the late Herbert Samuel and Mary Ethel Johnson Wood Sr.
His wife, the former Sylvia Juanita Woods, survives at 302 Nathan St., Elkins.
Also surviving are one son, James A. Woods, Teter Lake community; three daughters, Loretta Woods, Philippi, Virginia Simmons, Avan Park, Fla., and Melissa Woods, Martinsburg; two brothers, Herbert S. Wood Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., and George R. Wood, Staunton, Va.; two sisters, Rosa J. Copen, Junior, and Nina R. Taylor, Huttonsville; and four grandsons, Clarence Gochenour III, Freddie Summerfield Jr., Logan Allen Woods and Nicholas Viachos.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, John William Woods Jr.; and three sisters, Mary J. Shahan, Letha Katherine Wood and Kay Francis Wood.
Mr. Woods was a former coal miner and a Baptist by faith.

Wayne A. Woods
Wayne Allen Woods, 57, a councilman for the town of Hendricks and a resident of the Rosendorf community, Hendricks, departed this life early Thursday morning, Dec. 12, 2002. He had been in his usual health and death was attributed to a massive heart attack.
He was born on Jan. 26, 1945, at Hendricks, a son of the late Luther Bascum Woods and Violet B. McDaniel Woods.
On Sept. 30, 1967, in Parsons, he was married to the former Sharon Lea Vanscoy, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Tammy D. Moore and husband, Scott, of Parsons, Crystal M. Stone and husband, Paris, of Midlothian, Va., and Kayla N. Woods, a student at Alderson-Broaddus College at Philippi; two brothers, Coye L. Woods and wife, Kay, of Baton Rouge, La., and L.B. Woods of Hendricks; one sister, Janet Carr and husband, Keith, of Elkins; and four grandchildren, Autumn Dawn Moore, Emma Grace Moore, both of Parsons, Michah Paige Stone and Conner Jennings Stone, both of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Woods.
He attended the Hamrick School and Parsons High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, serving as a sharpshooter. He was a former employee of the Hinchcliff Lumber Co. and the Parsons Tannery. He was a coalminer at North Branch and Robinson Run. He was also employed by R.H. Armstrong Co., West Virginia Paving and at the time of his death, was a substitute custodian at Tucker County High School. He served on the park board at Hendricks. He attended the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood. He was an avid deer hunter and woodworker.
Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Sunday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor at 1 p.m. Monday. Thurman M. Woofter
Thurman M. "Shorty" Woofter, 58, of 90 1/2 Camden Ave., Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
Mr. Woofter was born Jan. 2, 1944, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Florist Clay and Margie C. Adams Woofter.
Surviving are one brother, Herman Woofter, Niles, Ohio; four sisters, Naomi "Peg" DeBarr, Buckhannon, Norma DeBarr, Wheeling, Reta Jackson, Buckhannon, and Pansy Johnson, Nashville, Ind.; one special niece, Carol Waybright, Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Woofter and Willie Woofter; and one sister, Nellie Hornbeck.
Mr. Woofter was a city worker for the city of Buckhannon. He was a member of the Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598 and Buckhannon Eagles Club 4357.

Kathleen Worthington
A. Kathleen Worthington, 78, a resident of Carol Road, Bowling Green, Ohio, departed this life Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2002, in Wood County Nursing Home.
She was born Sunday, Dec. 23, 1923, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Harry O. Crickard and Dessie Mae Kittle Crickard.
On Dec. 9, 1946, she married Edward F. Worthington, who preceded her in death on April 23, 2000.
Surviving are one son, Thomas E. Worthington, Bowling Green, Ohio; one sister, "JaneAnn" Louk, Norfolk, Va.; and three grandchildren, Tyler E. and Tayler M. Worthington and Lauren A. Kessler, all of Bowling Green, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Crickard.
Mrs. Worthington worked as a crossing guard for the Bowling Green City Schools for 10 years, had worked at Bowling Green State University at the Student Book Exchange, as a switchboard operator and at Student Health Center. She also worked at Maurer’s Furniture Store in Fairmont, as a telephone operator and secretary in Baltimore, Md. She had owned and operated the Petite Beauty Shop with her niece Jeanette Legg in Cygnet, Ohio, had owned and operated The Fairmont Hobby Center in Fairmont, worked at Bowling Green Manor Nursing Home, the Armstrong Theaters Inc., the Wood County Hospital Gift Shop and as a telephone operator for General Telephone all at Bowling Green, Ohio.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church Portage, the First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she worked o the Bazaar Staff, Church functions, and as a volunteer. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Beta Tau Chapter and received the "Woman of the Year" award in 1996. She was a former member of the Bowling Green Women’s Club, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a graduate of Warner Beauty College. She was a lifelong artist, enjoying oil paintings and drawing. She made and sold ceramics and crafts.

Barbara Wratchford
Barbara Margaret Chambers Wratchford, 71, a former resident of 1606 South Davis Ave., Elkins, and more recently a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, departed this life at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health for the past five years.

Barbara Wratchford
Barbara Maureen Chambers Wratchford, 71, a resident of 1606 South Davis Ave., Elkins, departed this life at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002. She had been in declining health for the past five years.
She was born Nov. 24, 1930, at Los Angeles, Calif., a daughter of the late Frank Booth Chambers and Margaret Mary Metzler Chambers.
On April 21, 1960, at Washington, D.C., she was married to Charles Werner Wratchford Jr., who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Charlene England, Philippi, Kathleen Taillon and husband, Greg Taillon, and Julia Wratchford, all of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Jacqueline Picciano, Thousand Oaks, Calif., Catherine Chambers, Lake Arenal, Costa Rica, and Frances Chambers, San Jose, Calif.; two grandsons, James England, Philippi, and Sean England, Georgia; four nephews, Eugene, Louis, Michael and Stephen Picciano; and two nieces, Ceilia and Kathy Marx.
She attended the Catholic schools of Mt. Rainer, Md. She was a homemaker and a former hospital volunteer at Washington, DC. She was a Catholic.
Friends will be received at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Today, at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home, a prayer service will be recited by the Rev. Father William Anderson. On Friday, Mrs. Wratchford will be moved to Saint Brendan Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father William Anderson will be the presider and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale. From 21 Mar 2002.

Opal J. Wright
Opal Jessie Wright, 85, a resident of Crestview Manor, Jane Lew, and a former resident of Buckhannon Manor and Route 5, Buckhannon, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Crestview Manor.
She was born June 29, 1917, in Cannan, a daughter of the late Homer Ray "Pete" and May Victoria Morris Alkire.
She was twice married, first to Perry Stephen Wright and second to Malleu Marple, both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and husband, Sterling Gregory, Route 5, Buckhannon, and Charlotte and husband, Ronnie Stonestreet, Raleigh, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and wife, Dorothy Wright, Philippi; one sister, Ercie Marie "Toots" Bennett, Buckhannon; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Perry Junior Wright; one daughter, Elizabeth May Wright; one infant daughter, one sister, Joycie Baker; and one grandson, Joseph John "Joey" Wright.
She was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of Order Eastern Star No. 18 of Buckhannon. She was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in Heavener Cemetery. From 29 Oct 2002.

Susan A. Wright
Susan Ann "Sue" Wright, 46, of Route 4, Box 548, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial in Weston.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1955, in Prince George County, a daughter of Carl R. and Ila Gill Reed, who survives in Buckhannon.
On June 14, 1978, she married Donnie Wright, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Desiree’ Wright, Buckhannon; two brothers, Charles Ray Reed, Buckhannon, and Herbert Thomas Gill, Virginia Beach, Va.; and one sister, Doneen Marie Jones, Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Lee Brooks II; and one brother, Carl Reed Jr.
She was a horse and dog trainer.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Wright Family Farm in Buckhannon. From 13 June 2002.

Kristin C. Wyland
Kristin Cheryl Wyland, 11, a resident of Route 4, the Carrolton community, Buckhannon, passed away at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born April 23, 1991, at Elkins, the daughter of Glen Wyland of Elkins and Cheryl Hoffman Terrano of the Carrolton community, Buckhannon.
Also surviving are her stepfather, Mike Terrano, Carrolton community, Buckhannon; three sisters, Jessica Pope, Arkansas, Jennifer Pope, Carrolton community, Buckhannon, and Andrea Terrano, Elkins; and one brother, Pat Terrano, Carrolton community, Buckhannon.
She was a fifth-grade student at Philippi Elementary School.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Carol Duffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Hunt Memorial Cemetery.
