Kathleen Wade
Kathleen "Kitty" Wade, 81, of 7 Bluegrass Village, Morgantown, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at her home in Morgantown.
She was born July 29, 1921, at Dry Fork, a daughter of the late Fred and Cynthia Judy Harper.
She was twice married. First, she married Blondie Tenney, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Cecil Wade, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Dalton Ray Tenney, Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Sue and husband, Skip Brown, Morgantown, and Jean and husband, Roy Hess, Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Khlar Harper and wife, Opal, Elkins; three grandsons, Kevin Tenney, Baltimore, Md., J.L. Brown and wife, Susan, Morgantown, and Mike Tenney and wife, Lisa, Baltimore, Md.; two granddaughters, Beckie Penniwill and husband, Brian, Baltimore, MD., and Lori Miller and husband, Rick, Grafton; two great-grandsons, Logan Miller, Grafton, and Travis Brown, Morgantown; and three great-granddaughters, Rachel Miller, Grafton, and Kara Penniwill and Kaylin Penniwill, both of Baltimore, Md.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Harper.
She worked on the staff that opened the Holiday Inn Restaurant in Morgantown and was a waitress at the Rainbow Restaurant. She was a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 Ladies Auxiliary. She attended the Covenant EMC in Morgantown.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Spears officiating. Interment will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park. From 31 Dec 2002.

Lila Waid, 60, of Hambleton, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to heart failure.

Lila G. Waid
Lila Grace Waid, 60, of Hambleton, died Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Death was attributed to heart failure.
Mrs. Waid was born July 10, 1941, in Parsons, a daughter of Keitha James Ankrom, who survives in Hambleton, and the late Delbert "Red" Ankrom and the late Ray Orndoff Sr.
On May 22, 1965, in Parsons, she married Nelson Dale Waid, who survives. They had celebrated 36 years of marriage.
Also surviving are a daughter, Andrea Lynn Roberts and husband, Vincent, Parsons; four brothers, Ellis "Duke" Humphrey and wife, Rose Ann, Parsons, Ray Orndoff Jr., Steve Orndoff and Greg Orndoff, all of Hagerstown, Md.; two sisters, Linda Mae Scott and husband, Steve, Hambleton, and Barbara Orndoff, Hagerstown, Md.; and a grandson, Travis David Roberts, a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Ellis Humphrey Sr.; and a sister, Debbie Orndoff.
Mrs. Waid attended the Hamrick School and was a 1961 graduate of Parsons High School. She was a teller for Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C., and the National Bank of Washington, D.C.
She was former office manager for the town of Hambleton. She was former police judge for the town of Hendricks and a former employee of the Tucker County Senior Center.
She attended Hambleton United Methodist Church and was a member of the women’s society. She also attended the Pentecostal Church in Rosendorf.
Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home parlor Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Molly Waitkus, 88, of Thomas, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.

Mollie T. Waitkus
Mrs. Mollie Theresa Korosec Waitkus, 88, of Coketon, departed this world Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Davis. She was the third of six children.
She is survived by her two sons, Dr. Alexander M. Waitkus of Virginia Beach, Va., and Robert Lee Waitkus of Thomas; two sisters, Anna Strout and Mary Cheplo, both of Gowanda, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Alexander Paul, Mark Daniel, Pamela Anne and Karen Marie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander V. Waitkus, two brothers and one sister.
Mollie was a lifelong member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and Rosary Altar Society.
She was a loving mother and inspiration to her sons and her grandchildren. She was greatly admired by her many friends in the community. The medical staff at the Ruby Cancer Center in Morgantown, where she was treated for several years, considered her their "poster child" patient. One of their children was given her name.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a vigil for Mollie will be at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Lino Ebejer as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Thomas. The Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. From 21 Dec 2002.

Thomas E. Walden
Thomas E. Walden, 74, of Avon Lake, Ohio, formerly of Brook Park, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002, at his home following complications from cancer.
Mr. Walden was born Nov. 15, 1927, in Elkins, and had lived in Brook Park for 38 years prior to moving to Avon Lake three years ago.
Mr. Walden was controller and vice president for Murch and Co. Brokerage Firm in Cleveland for 17 years, then became the business manager for 13 years with the Hattie Larlham Foundation in Mantua, Ohio, which operates a home for children who need special care.
Mr. Walden was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Pacific during Okinawa. He also was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.
He received his bachelor of science degree from Davis & Elkins College and his master’s degree from Dyke-Spenciarn Business College in Cleveland.
He was a member of American Legion Post 610 of Brook Park. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing as well as tending to his flower and vegetable gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Wooddell Walden; sons Thomas Walden and wife, Gayle, of Elkins and Robert A. Walden and wife, Tonie, of Olmsted Township; one daughter, Diane S. Brunner and husband, David, of Avon Lake; seven grandchildren, Thomas A. Walden and wife, Jennifer, Jacob L. Walden and wife, Rachel, Meghan J. Walden, Abby L. Walden, Shawn D. Brunner, Jason A. Brunner and Kevin M. Brunner; three great-grandchildren, Thomas L. Walden, Collin Walden and Marlee Walden; and one brother, Richard Walden and wife, Betty, of Elkins; one sister, Patty Rosencrance and husband, Junior, of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Thelma Purkey Walden, and one brother, Ronald Walden.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake, Ohio, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Nancy U. Wallace
Nancy U. Wallace, 96, a former resident of 11 Cherry St. in Elkins for 55 years, died Sunday April 21, 2002.
Mrs. Wallace was born in Berkeley Springs, Dec. 4, 1905, the daughter of Chaffie Ziler Unger and Algernon Ridgeway Unger.
She attended elementary school in Berkely Springs and was graduated from Elkins High School in 1923. She attended Shepherd College, Fairmont State College and West Virginia University, obtaining a teaching certificate. Thereafter, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Norton for several years until her marriage in 1929 to John J. Wallace Jr. of Elkins.
Two sons were born to her marriage: John J. Wallace III of Richmond, Va. and Joseph A. Wallace of Elkins.
Her husband, John J. Wallace Jr., predeceased her in 1941.
Mrs. Wallace raised her sons from childhood unassisted and for some years on $37.50 a month. She was a member of St. Brendan Church, the Women’s Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was highly regarded and had many lifelong friends, almost all of whom predeceased her, including her two sisters, Portia S. Reed of Gettysburg, Pa., and Pauline S. Rockwell of Berkely Springs.
Mrs. Wallace was of high character of whom no one spoke ill. She was courageous, honest, loving and generous and never was unkind to anyone in word or deed. She was devoted to her sons, their wives, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She did not hesitate to defend them against tyranny from authority in a time when a women’s voice was discounted. Mrs. Wallace overcame adversity with grace.
At age 55, she returned to college and obtained a bachelor of arts degree in education from Davis & Elkins at age 57 and taught for a decade at Elkins Junior High School. Mrs. Wallace particularly relished West Virginia History having at least one student each year who became a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe and for some years taught all of the Randolph County students who were so knighted.
In addition to her sons, she is survived by Joyce E. Wallace of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren, J. Michael Wallace and Joyce F. Wallace of Columbus, Ohio; Nancy W. and E. Bradford Tazewell III of Richmond, Va.; Stewart U. and Gabrielle Wallace of New York, N.Y.; Chaffee U. Wallace of Lovingston, Va.; Liberty J. Wallace of Elkins; and John J. Wallace IV of Morgantown; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wallace was an outstanding daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend. Her loyalty was permanent, her character unwavering, her love enduring. God bless her.
Private graveside services were held on Friday at St. Brendan Cemetery. The Rev. Father William Anderson was the presider and interment followed. From 27 Apr 2002.

Mary Margaret Corley Waller, 80, a resident of 107 Riverview Drive, Elkins, departed this life early Thursday morning, Sept. 19, 2002, at her home. She had been in failing health for the past year and death was attributed to heart failure.
She was born Feb. 21, 1922, at Junior, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Vern L. Corley Sr. and Ica B. Bennett Corley.
On April 15, 1946, at Elkins, she was married to Thomas Floyd "Tom" Waller Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter-in-law, Sandra Delp Waller; four brothers, Milton C. Corley and wife, Shirley, Robert J. Corley and wife, Nina, Larry A. Corley and wife, Sharon, all of Philippi, and Willis D. Corley and wife, Agnes, Horner; five sisters, Carol V. Holbert and husband, Herbert, Mavis C. Thompson, Karen L. Ketchem and husband, Tommy, all of Philippi, Connie Metheny and husband, Robert, Millboro, Va., and Marian Moore and husband, Ronnie, Worthington; two sisters-in-law, Carmen Corley and Mary Corley, both of Philippi; two granddaughters, Jennifer J. Medina and Rebecca A. Waller; one grandson, Brian Thomas Waller; one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Rose Medina; and one great-grandson, Thomas Christian "Tommy" Waller, all of Milford, Mass.
She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Floyd Waller Jr., who preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1993; three brothers, Ernest L. Corley, Richard A. Corley and Vern L. Corley Jr.; and one sister, Hilma Jean Corley.
She attended the schools of Junior, was a graduate of Belington High School with the class of 1939, and was a graduate of Laird Memorial Hospital School of Nursing at Montgomery with the class of 1946. She was a former employee of Davis Memorial Hospital, Nella’s Nursing Home, both at Elkins and the Myers Clinic at Philippi. She was a volunteer at Davis Memorial Hospital for several years and had received many awards for her volunteer work. She was a member of Elkins First Church of Christ.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. Evangelist Gary L. Oma I. Walton
Oma I. Walton, 82, of Buckhannon Manor, and formerly of Eden community, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at her home.
She was born June 1, 1919, in Adrian, a daughter of the late Thomas Utah and Lilly Mae Tenney Gould.
On June 6, 1936, she married Macil Willis Walton, who preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1983.
Surviving are six sons, Willis Walton and Rex Walton, both of Buckhannon, Harold Walton of Rock Cave, Lonnie Walton of Horner, Roy Walton and Terry Walton, both of Eden; three daughters, Ellen Smith of Buckhannon, Susan Wilder of Bellevue, Ohio, and Kathy Barnhart of Vernal, Utah; 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Virginia Friend of Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by one daughter and one brother.
She was a homemaker and attended the West Buckhannon United Methodist Church and was a member of the Eden United Methodist Church.

Nellie Wamsley
Nellie Wamsley, 77, a resident of 212 Chestnut St., Philippi, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, in the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.
She was born Oct. 4, 1924, at Edinburg, Va., a daughter of the late Charles E. and Glendora Heishman Dellinger.
She was united in marriage to Ray Wamsley, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Richard Armstrong, Leesburg, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Regina McDonald, Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister, Arbutus Baker, Lorain, Ohio; one brother, James Dellinger, Amherst, Ohio; two grandsons, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and one grandson.
She was a seamstress. She attended Silent Grove Church.

Howard W. Wanless
Howard W. Wanless, 72, of Bedford Heights, Ohio, and of Buckhannon, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Bedford Heights, Ohio.
He was born June 29, 1929, in Centralia, a son of the late Robert Lee and Maude Marie Holden Wanless.
He married Glenna M. Crawford Wanless of Bedford Heights, Ohio, and of Buckhannon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Kenneth Wanless, Bedford Heights, Ohio; one sister, Mary Louise Enzti, Newton Falls, Ohio; four brothers, Gordon and wife, Elsie Wanless, Rockledge, Fla., James and wife, Harriett Wanless, Canton, Ohio, Camden and wife, Anita Wanless, Newton Falls, Ohio, and Perry Michael and wife, Mary Ann Wanless, Warren, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Amanda Jo Lorene Wanless, Bedford Heights, Ohio.
He was a chemistry and math teacher in West Virginia, Richmond Heights and Cleveland Schools at JFK and John Adams High Schools. He worked as a chemist at Koppers, Inc. in Pittsburgh and Lear Siegler in Maple Heights. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952. He enjoyed electronics and fishing. Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Virgil Ray Ware Sr., 58, of 109 Keyser Ave., Belington, died Friday morning, Dec. 20, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born May 11, 1944, at Junior, a son of the late Chester Ware and the late Virginia Osborn Bostick.
On Nov. 24, 1965, he married the former Ruth Deloris Miller, who survives at Keyser Avenue, Belington.
Also surviving are three daughters, Delores Eblin and husband, Homer, Elkins, Beverly Ware and fiance, Andy Wells, Galloway, and Rosale Ware, at home; one son, Virgil Ware Jr. and companion, LaDonna Moore, at home; grandchildren, Tommy Swick and Timmy Swick, Charlestown, Tammy Swick, Martinsburg, Earl "Elwood" Roy IV and Cody Roy, Galloway, Mary Staton, Elkins; brother, Charles Ware, Valley Bend; sisters, Cora Mae Pharis, Judy Pharis and Nancy Pharis, all of Belington; stepbrother, Robert Ware, Belington; stepsisters, Carol Bolstick, Ohio, Linda Coberly, Montrose, and Mary Ware, Elkins; his stepmother, Verna Jean Ware, Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Junior Ware, and one sister, Daisy Ware.
Mr. Ware was a former timber cutter and was a Methodist by faith.

Sarah Ward
Sarah Leigh Riggle Ward, 95, a resident of Mill Creek and more recently a resident of Colonial Place in Elkins, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past year.
She was born Thursday, July 11, 1907, at Middlebourne, the youngest daughter of six children of the late Christian Beall Riggle and Sally A. Shaw Riggle.
On June 14, 1932, at Middlebourne, she was married to Frank C. Ward, who preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1973.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Cecelia and James E. Wallace, Mill Creek; four grandchildren, Jay W. Wallace, Elkins, Sally Decker and husband, Jeffrey, Hickory, N.C., Margaret Woodworth and husband, Rick, Burlington, and Casey Wallace and wife, Denise, Petersburg; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley and James C. Wallace, Sarah, Kathryn and Christian Decker, Jessica, Don and Will Woodworth, and Matthew and Brendan Wallace; several nieces and nephews; and a companion, Arlene Knick, Valley Bend.
Mrs. Ward was a graduate of Tyler County High School and pursued her education at Fairmont State College. She later transferred to West Virginia University where she graduated with the class of 1929.
Sarah accepted a teaching position at Whitesville, where she remained for two years. Returning home in the spring of 1931, she then accepted a position to Tygarts Valley High School at Mill Creek, where she taught English and journalism, completing the second semester.
She was a member of the Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Trustees of the Brick Church Cemetery.
She was a 71-year member of Alpha Delta Phi Social Sorority, was a 50-year member of the John Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was an active member of the Randolph Extension Homemakers and served as county president from 1952 to 1954.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Tygarts Valley Presbyterian Church at Huttonsville. A private interment service for the family will follow at the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville. Waldo T. Ward II
Waldo Triplett "Wally" Ward II, 52, a former resident of the Crystal Springs community, Elkins, and a resident of 3588 South Waco Way, Aurora, Colo., departed this life Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at the Health One Medical Center in Aurora, Colo. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
He was born Thursday, May 25, 1950, in Elkins, the son of the late Waldo Triplett Ward and Margaret J. Talbott Ward, who survives at Crystal Springs.
Also surviving are one son, Bradley T. Ward and wife, Angela, Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Chandra Wickwire and husband, Jerry, Aurora, Colo., and Michelle Ward, Elkins; twin brothers, Terry Lee Ward, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Larry Lynn Ward, Crystal Springs; three grandchildren, Briana Coe, Haley Ward and Morgan Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
Wally was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1968, where he had been active in Future Farmers of America.
He had served with the Army National Guard, was formerly employed as the fleet manager for the F.A. Tucker Corp. at Troy, Mich., had worked for the Union Power Co. at Colorado and was the manager of Western Fleet Operation for the Par Electrical Contractors Corp. at Englewood, Colo., which served a number of western states.

Barney G. Ware
Barney Golden Ware, a resident of Bluffton, S.C, departed this life this past week due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born in 1934, at Junior, a son of the late Oakey and Lena Booth Ware.
He was twice married. First, he married Joan Ware of Clarksburg, who preceded him in death. Second, he married Ingrid Ware of Germany, who survives in Bluffton, S.C.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael and David Ware; one daughter, Donna Ware Bryant and husband, Wilhelm Bryant; four grandchildren, Nathan Ware, Samantha, Alexandra and Victoria Bryant, all of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Freda Marie Ware Day and husband, Golden Day, of Elkins; and two aunts, Cleota Browning of Arizona, and Wanda Shinn Mitchel of Belington.
Mr. Ware was a 1952 graduate of Belington High School and was planning to attend his 40th class reunion in Belington this July. He was in the U.S. Military during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was also a graduate of West Virginia University. He was previously employed with the Clarksburg Exponent, later moving to Baltimore where he was employed with The Baltimore Sun Times from which he retired.

Edith G. Ware, 74, a resident of Route 1, Belington, departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 2002, at 8:41 a.m. at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health for the past three months.
She was born Sept. 22, 1927, at Ware's Ridge, near Valley Head, a daughter of the late John Adam See and Mary Etta Beal See.
On Sept. 9, 1950, at Valley Head, she was married to Gerald L. Ware, who survives at their home in Belington.
Also surviving are three daughters, Karen Boone and husband, Ken, Belington, Donna Auvil and husband, Clark, Elkins, and Christy Weese and husband Joe, Belington; one brother, Larry See, Kingwood; one sister, Virginia Thompson, Belington; five grandchildren, Lacoa Corder, L.G. Corder and his fiance, Tracie Stewart, Jay Auvil and wife, Kory, Tonya Gripper and husband, Eddie, and Ben Auvil and wife, Monica; five great-grandchildren, Alexis Auvil, Kaitlyn Auvil, Jessica Auvil and Logan and Eli Gripper; seven stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Mason See.
Mrs. Ware attended the schools of Randolph County, and was a homemaker.
She had been a member and treasurer of the Barbour County CEOS, past president of the Barbour County Council of CEOS, member of the Junior CEOS, a member of the Tygart Valley Rebekah Lodge No. 181, of Belington, a member of Mountain Rebekah Degree Team District 14, treasurer of the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary No. 1, treasurer of Tucker No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant, treasurer of District 14 of the Rebekah Assembly of West Virginia, treasurer of the District 14 Rebekah Drill Team.
She had been appointed an officer by Alma Whitehair, president of Rebekah Assembly of West Virginia, and had been accepted as an associate member of the LAPM, Barbour No. 1, and a member of the Tucker Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was secretary of the board of directors of the Barbour County Heart and Hand Ministries, was a volunteer at the Belington Heart and Hand Thrift Shop, was a life member of Barbour County 4-H Majahs, a life member of the 4-H All Stars, and was a past leader of the Junior 4-H Club. She was a delegate to the Barbour County Republican Executive Committee, and in 1998, was named Barbour County Belle. She served for many years as a columnist for the Barbour Democrat writing the Junior News Column. She was a member of the former Calvary United Methodist Church at Junior for more than 50 years, where she had served as a lay leader and was presently a member of the Kynette United Methodist Church and a member of the Kynette United Methodist Women.
She had been a 23-year delegate of the West Virginia United Methodist Conference.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Today at 7 p.m. the Tygart Valley Rebekah Lodge 181 will conduct a memorial service from the funeral home parlor. On Wednesday, Mrs. Ware will be moved to Kynette United Methodist Church at Harding, where friends will be received from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. James Holland Ware, 73, a resident of 114 Keyes Ave., Philippi, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at his residence, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 25, 1928, at Philippi, a son of the late Paul Blackburn and Ruth McBee Ware.
He was united in marriage to the former June S. Sullivan, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael E. Ware, Deep Creek, Md., and Michael Brett Ware, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one daughter, Kelley Victoria Dlugos, Morgantown; one brother, Jerry L. Ware, Philippi; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Jamie Elizabeth Ware and Holly Jo Narkevic; one son, Marc Holland Ware; and one brother, Paul Blackburn Ware Jr.
He was a 1947 graduate of Philippi High School. In 1953, he graduated from the West Virginia University of Law. He was a member of the American Bar Association, West Virginia State Bar Association and the 19th Judicial Bar Association. He practiced law for 50 years. He served as city attorney of Philippi for many years.
He was a member of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, Philippi Kiwanis Club, Grafton Elks Club and Tyhannons Sportsman Club and Emeritus Board of Directors at the 1st Central Bank.
At the request of the deceased he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Philippi United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Lepp officiating. Leota Virginia Clayton Ware, 96, a former resident of 425 1/2 Davis Ave., Elkins, and more recently a resident of 125 Riverview Drive, Elkins, where she made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Susie Ware, departed this life Sunday evening, Oct. 6, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past eight months.
She was born Sept. 26, 1906, at Junior, a daughter of the late John Clayton and Lucretia Edmonds Clayton.
On Dec. 4, 1924, at Junior, she was married to Orvey Roy Ware, who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1964.
Surviving are one son, Lewis N. Ware and wife, Susie, Elkins; two grandchildren, David Ware and wife, Barbara, Fairmont, and Melody Ware Wileman and husband, Gary, Elkins; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Logan White and Lynnlee Wileman.
She was preceded in death by one son, Roy Paul Ware; two daughters, Joy Ware and Betty J. Ware; and two sisters, Eula Allen and Mable Clayton.
She attended the schools of Junior. She had formerly worked as an aid at the Memorial General Hospital, was a custodian, having worked at the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of the H.W. Daniels Unit 29, American Legion Auxiliary, the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Aerie 2344, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center and a former member of World War I Ladies Auxiliary and was a Methodist.

He was born Wednesday, Nov. 20, 1912, at Cherry Grove, Pendleton County, a son of the late Charlie Noah Warner and Mary Wimer Warner.
He was married in Michigan, to the former Vera White, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Roland Warner and wife, Diane, Job; two daughters, Sandra Cooper and husband, Wilmoth, Job, and and Pauline Sponaugle, Harrisonburg, Va.; four brothers, Ray Warner and wife, Nola, Riverton, Charlie Warner and wife, Betty, Cherry Grove, Merl Warner, Seneca Rocks, and Paul Warner and wife, Pauline, Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Mable Sponaugle, Franklin, Ollie Johnson, Bartow, and Priscella Mullennex and husband, Brooks, Cherry Grove; five grandchildren, Kevin, Rex, Harris and Trenton Warner and Eber Dale Sponaugle; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewitt and Roy Warner.
He attended the four-room school at Hunting Ground. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army at the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart. He had worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 20 years, retired from General Motors Corp. at Cleveland, Ohio, after 10 years of service. He was a retired farmer and attended the Church of God. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion.

On Aug. 25, 1945, she married Joe Warner Sr., who preceded her in death on April 6, 1998.

Veryl Forrest Warner, 80, a former resident of Clermont and Leesburg, Fla., and more recently a resident of 1707 Lavalette Ave., Elkins, departed this life, Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Death was attributed to a stroke.
He was born Oct. 5, 1921, at Job, a son of the late William Bryan Warner and Connie Heltzel Warner.
During December 1947, at Job, he was married to the former Nelda Irene Lambert Warner, who survives.

Edward T. "Ed" Wasmer Sr., 84, of Parkersburg, and formerly of Pickens, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Wasmer was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Pickens, a son of the late Paul A. and Margaret Jones Wasmer.
He married Mary Ruth Bonner Wasmer, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are a son, Edward T. Wasmer Jr., Parkersburg; three grandchildren, Edward T. "Pete" Wasmer III and Ricky W. Wasmer, both of Parkersburg, and Tammy Marie Harper, Clarksburg; four great-grandchildren, Britton Wasmer, Corey Harper, Beau Wasmer and Cheylan Wasmer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Nelson, Paul, John, Clarence and Otto Wasmer; and five sisters, May Hefner, Hannah Sypolt, Mary Hull, Margaret Kennedy and Eileen Vincent.
Mr. Wasmer retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 122 and a member of the Baptist Temple.

Michael Andrew Weaver, 19, a resident of 2 Bailey Dr., Buckhannon, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Webster Springs Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 11, 1983, in Buckhannon, the son of Andy Weaver and Susie Crites Miller, both of Buckhannon.
Surviving are one sister, Lindsay Weaver, Buckhannon; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Crites, Buckhannon; his paternal grandmother, Emogene Weaver, Hodgesville; and his stepfather, Lynn Miller, Buckhannon.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Frank Crites, and his paternal grandfather, James O. Weaver.
Mr. Weaver graduated from the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was employed by RPM Fasttrak.
He attended the Tennerton United Methodist Church.

Willard Lea Weaver, 89, of Route 3, Grafton, died Wednesday afternoon, March 6, 2002, in the Beulahland Personal Care Home, Grafton, following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 7, 1912, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Ira Ware and the late Grace Simons Linger.
On Aug. 25, 1928, she was married to Troy W. Weaver, who preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Janet) Smerka, Morgantown, Mrs. Karl (Rosalie) Poe, with whom she had made her home, and Inis Adcock, Woonsocket, R.I.; one sister, Virgie Crites, whose whereabouts are unknown; one half sister, Lillian Dean, Buckhannon; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Wilson Mouser.
Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker. She was a member of Arden United Methodist Church and the Arden United Methodist Ladies Aid. She was loved by all who knew her.

C. Fred Weese, 86, a resident of 55 Pleasant Ave., Elkins, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Elkins, a son of the late William and Margaret "Maggie" McArdle Weese.
He was twice married. First to Twila Kerns Weese, who preceded him in death in 1966. In 1967, he was married to Audrey M. Miller Ketterman Weese, who preceded him in death in 1994.
He is survived by one son, James Weese and wife, Nila, Lansing, Mich.; three stepsons, James W. Ketterman and wife, Sharone, Eatonville, Wash., Gerald L. Ketterman, Grant Town, and Jeffrey A. Ketterman of Sikeston, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. John (Judith) Schuh, Lake Dallas, Texas.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Anthony (Julie) Ketterman Graham of St. Albans; one brother, Leo Bert Weese, Elkins; three sisters, Iva Mae Thayer and Bessie G. Moore, both of Bedford, Texas, and Mrs. Allen (Jessie) Mossman of Grapevine, Texas; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, one half brother and one half sister.
Mr. Weese was employed at Talbott Paint and Glass from 1935 until 1980, where he installed automobile glass. He was a member of the First Baptist Church from 1945 until 1966 and a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church since 1967. He enjoyed playing pool at the Randolph County Senior Center and enjoyed framing pictures and mirrors, wooden craft items and flower gardening.

Hattie C. Weese
Hattie Christine Weese, 72, a resident of 103 Pleasant Ave., Elkins, passed away at 5:53 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, in the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
She was born April 7, 1929, at Beverly, the daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie Dick Crickard.
On Aug. 23, 1947, she was married to Roy Lee Weese, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2000.
She is survived by one son, Gary Lee Weese and wife, Barbara, Glen Burnie, Md.; one daughter, Mrs. Jacob (Paula) Caplinger III, Newport News, Va.; two brothers, Roy Crickard, Elkins, and Jimmy Crickard, Crystal Springs; one sister, Mrs. Lyda (Sandra) Poling, Beverly; two granddaughters, Allison and Vanessa Weese, both of Maryland; one sister-in-law, Lena Arlene Crickard, Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Paul and Ray Crickard, and a sister, Anna Jane Crickard.
Mrs. Weese was employed as a nurse’s aide at David Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement, and was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center and the First Church of Christ in Elkins.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Beverly Cemetery with Evangelist Gary L. Kendall Sr. officiating. Interment will follow.

Norman D. Weese
Norman D. "Cotton" Weese, 65, a native of Beverly, and a resident of Catlett, Va., departed this life Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va.
He was born Jan. 11, 1937, at Beverly, a son of the late Stuart Weese and Ila Geraldine Daniels Weese, who survives at Brooksville, Fla.
Also surviving are his wife of 45 years, Madge Weese; two daughters, Kellie Todd and husband, Ken, Gainesville, Va., and Kim Krzywicki and husband, Ray, Manassas, Va.; four brothers, Gail Weese, Elkins, Carroll Weese, Riverview, Fla., Joe Weese, Belington, and Dennis Weese, Beverly; three sisters, Barbara Kierickx, Wapello, Iowa, Rebecca Hall and Zetha Kay Kearns, both of Elkins; five grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Ashleigh, Tyler and Hanna; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Weese.
Mr. Weese was retired from the Wise Guys Construction Co. at Nokesville, Va.

Adam D. Wegman
Adam D. "Don" Wegman, 66, of Mount Storm, a former resident of Randolph County, died Monday, March 4, 2002. Death was sudden and unexpected and attributed to a heart attack.
He was born on April 28, 1935, at Mill Creek, he was a son of Odie McCauley Wegman of Elkins, and the late Howard Wegman. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth David Wegman, and a stepson, Kenneth Allen Cosner.
He was twice married. His first wife, Dorothy Haden, survives in Indianapolis, Ind.
Mr. Wegman was a retired United Coal Miner, having retired from Badger Coal Mine in Philippi.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, is his second wife, Beulah E. Mitchell Cosner Wegman; four daughters, Sheila Wamsley and husband, Roger of Mill Creek, Yvonne Weasenforth and husband, Carl Jr. of Beverly, Donna Powers of Indianapolis, Ind., and Karen Tharp and husband, Curtis of Quincy, Ind.; one son, Dennis Wegman and wife, Becky of Belington; one stepson, Rick L. Cosner and wife, Sherry of Dorcas; one stepdaughter, Teresa Cosner Minnick of Mount Storm; one brother, Jimmy Wegman and wife, Shelley of Mt. Rose; five sisters, Maxine Goldizen of Huntington, Carolyn Fortney of Elkins, Jean Shifflett and husband, Don of Bayard, Nadine Moore and husband, Jack of Elkins, and Shirley Weasenforth of Valley Bend; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Warner K. Wegman
Warner Kenneth "Bud" Wegman, 66, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, in the Elizabeth House of Flat Rock, N.C.
He was a native of Randolph County, a son of the late Jacob French Wegman and Monnie Wiseman Wegman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1973 after serving for more than 20 years. He was a resident of Huttonsville, before moving to Hendersonville in 2000. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Norma Bender Wegman of Hendersonville; three sons, Warner Kenneth Wegman Jr., James L. Teeter and Michael Lewellyn; nine daughters, Melody Wegman, Robin Bieder, Cherry Paul, Pam Coccia, Kim Welch, Amber Howell, Vicky Wegman, Angela McKey and Christina Welch; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly; one brother, Richard Wegman of Adolph; and three sisters, Bessie Teter of Elkins, Flosie Louk, Petersburg, Va., and Carrie Rachel Arbogast of Norton.
A funeral service with military rites was held at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of the Western Carolina Veterans State Cemetery at Black Mountain, N.C. Interment followed the service. The Rev. Katharine A. Welch
Katharine Anglin Welch, 89, of Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in the nursing home.
Mrs. Welch was born June 18, 1912, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Judson Flor and Edith Harte Ferguson Anglin.
On Jan. 28, 1942, she married Willis Herbert Welch, who preceded her in death on March 3, 1979.
Surviving is a son, David Welch.
Mrs. Welch was a school teacher for Upshur County Board of Education. She attended Philippi Grade School, was a 1929 graduate of Washington Irving High School and graduated from Fairmont College and attended Duke University. She was a member of Buckhannon Womens Club and College Club.
She was a descendent of William Anglin, one of the very first settlers of Barbour County.
She attended the First United Methodist Church.

Dorothy Wereley
Dorothy Wereley, 89, of Buckhannon, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Mrs. Wereley was born July 24, 1912, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Eugene Riley and Ethel Lottie Garrison Arbogast.
On Aug. 11, 1952, she married Jansen Wereley, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Nyla Ulanski, Naples, Fla.; a grandson, Bryan Pace, Chicago, Ill.; three nephews and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Arbogast.
Mrs. Wereley was a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 Ladies Auxiliary, Buckhannon Chapter 5 DAV Ladies Auxiliary, state commander and later national executive committee women for the DAV Buckhannon Chapter 5. She was a Methodist by faith.

French C. West, 75, of Route 10, Buckhannon, Liggett Addition, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice of Buckhannon.
Mr. West was born March 5, 1927, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Clark C. and Dovie Gibson West.
He married Anna M. Cornell West, who survives at the Liggett Addition.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Richard West and wife, Jane, Butler, Pa., and John D. Lantz and wife, Ann, French Creek; four daughters, Susan Grafton and husband, Jim, Worthington, Pa., Alice Wolfe and husband, Ted, Buckhannon, Delilah Jarrell and husband, Terry, Marmet, and Vickie Gill and husband, Paul, Crosslanes; one granddaughter, Katerena Strader and husband, Jamie; eight other grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Lesslie L. West and wife, Jenny, Peoria, Ariz.; and two sisters, Evelyn Olin, Denver, Colo., and Carol Birch, New Port Richey, Fla.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert "Bob" Lantz; and two grandchildren.
Mr. West retired from Eckard Drug Co. in San Antonio, Texas, and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett American Legion Post 7 and the Military Order of Cooties and the DAV Chapter No. 5 all of Buckhannon. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force. He was a charter member of West Buckhannon United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Miller and the Rev. Don McCauley officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Hubert D. Westfall
Hubert Denver Westfall, 80, of Price Street, Jane Lew, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center at Clarksburg.
He was born at Rock Cave, a son of the late Fred F. and Edna G. McCartney Westfall.
He was married to the late Elaine Jackson on April 15, 1949, who preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1984.
Surviving are the following, two sons, Michael Wayne Westfall of Nutter Fort, and Steven Alen Westfall and wife, Tina, of Jane Lew; two daughters, Connie Zannino and husband, Sam, of Baltimore, Md., and Carrie Blake and husband, John, of Weston; five sisters, Ruth Paxton of Seabring, Ohio, Maxine Enlow of Ohio, Christine Riley of Philadelphia, Pa., Augustine Dobbins of Texas, and Garnet Eason of Blue Eye, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Ester Polan of Weston, Ohio; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Ramsey; one brother and three grandchildren.
Mr. Westfall was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 573 of Clarksburg and worked for Lewis County Glass from 1945 to 1984 and had worked for Salem Glass.
Friends will be received at Morris Funeral Home in Jane Lew Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. with Beverley Tonkin Talbert officiating. Elbert C. Whanger, 101, a resident of Durbin, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins.
Mr. Whanger was born April 28, 1901, at Ronceverte, the son of the late A. Grant and Josie E. Livesay Whanger.
He had been a resident of Durbin since 1924 and was a 75-year member of Riverside Lodge 124 AF & AM.
He was a member of the Liberty Presbyterian Church at Green Bank where he was an elder of the church for over 30 years and was a past clerk of the Session.
He was also treasurer of the Senior Citizens Outpost of Durbin and was a retired agent and operator of the C&O Railroad where he served 51 1/2 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willa G. Nottingham Whanger, who died Aug. 28, 1991, and by a sister, Ethel W. Long, and a brother, Ernest G. Whanger.
Surviving are two sons, Julian G. Whanger, Richmond, Va., and James David Whanger; a sister, Nellie W. Johnson, Ronceverte; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Liberty Presbyterian Church in Green Bank where funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. She had been in declining health for the past month.

Gladys M. Whipple
Gladys May Kimzey Whipple, 94, a resident of Elkins, and for the past three years a resident of 108 Henry Ave., Elkins, where she had made her home with her daughter, Kathlynn Urban, departed this life at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past month and death was attributed to respiratory arrest.
She was born Saturday, Dec. 14, 1907, in LaSalle, Colo., a daughter of the late Walter Scott Kimzey Sr. and Emma C. Stone Kimzey.
During 1928, at Torrington, Wyo., she was married to Frank Willis Whipple, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Donald Whipple, Fremont, Calif.; three daughters, Merele Rogers, Cheney, Wash., Marjorie Anderson, Carlsbad, N.M., and Kathlynn Urban, Elkins; one brother, one sister, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers.
Mrs. Whipple moved with her family, six brothers and one sister from LaSalle, Colo. to Torrington, Wyo. during the summer of 1922. She attended Torrington High School and Sterling College at Sterling, Kan. She had been a member and active in the United Presbyterian Church and then in later life the United Methodist Church with the Sunday school youth and the Women’s Society in Torrington, Wyo., Sandpoint, Idaho and Elkins. She was a Past Noble Grand of the Torrington Rebecca Lodge and President of of the Young Women’s Mission Society. In 1948, she moved with her children to Sandpoint, Idaho, to care for her parents. In 1965, she became a Sorority housemother for 11 years before retiring in 1976. She moved to Elkins to be near her daughter, Kathy Urban and her grandchildren, Ryan and Heather. After moving to Elkins, she taught Sunday School at the First United Methodist Church until she retired on her 90th birthday. She was an avid swimmer, swimming two or three times a week at the YMCA. At the time of her death, she was their oldest active member.
Cremation services were provided by Lohr & Barb Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Ellis E. Conley will officiate and a graveside service will be held at a later date at Pines Cemetery in Spokane, Wash. From 17 Apr 2002.

Elizabeth Whitcomb
Elizabeth Mapes Whitcomb, 81, a resident of Mill Creek, and a patient in the Good Samaritan Center at Belington, passed away Saturday evening, Oct. 12, 2002, in the center.
She was born May 16, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Walter J. Mapes Sr. and the late Rose M. Hartigan Mapes.
In 1952, she was married to Elwood Whitcomb, who preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1991.
She is survived by six sons, George Galloway, Cottonwood, Ariz., James Hattersley, Bricktown, N.J., John Hattersley, Lexington, Va., David Hattersley, Elwood Whitcomb and Walter Whitcomb, all of Mill Creek; two daughters, Rose Oliverio, Bricktown, N.J., and Carol Buckley of Marlboro, N.J.; two brothers, John Mapes and Matthew Mapes, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Jeanne Linderwald of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Walter Mapes; and one sister, Mary Rose Swenson.
Mrs. Whitcomb held a masters degree and was employed by the Randolph County Schools as a teacher prior to her retirement. She was a former volunteer for the Valley Unit of the Randolph County Emergency Squad.

Bertha Belle Youtzy White, 71, a former resident of 100 Glendale Ave., Elkins, and for the past year, a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, departed this life early Friday morning, Dec. 20, 2002, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to complications from diabetes.
She was born Sunday, Dec. 13, 1931, at Cravensdale, a daughter of the late Paul Theodore Youtzy and Margaret Alice Summerfield Youtzy.
She was formerly married to Lester White and Patrick Wawsczyk.
Surviving are one son, Jason Theodore White, Elkins; three daughters, Virginia R. Johnson, Kerens, Paula F. Arbogast, Elkins, and Lisa L. Cogar, Morgantown; four sisters, Beulah Marie Carr, Elkins, Pearl Ruth Godden, Quinton, Va., Thelma Elizabeth Bennett, Harrisonburg, Va., and Geraldine Gladwell, Hopewell, Va.; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special niece whom Mrs. White helped to raise, Roberta Dawson Harper, Fairmont.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, one daughter, Linda Belle White; one brother, Donald Lee Youtzy; and four sisters, Madeline Youtzy, Mary Nair, Dorothy Riffle and Jacqueline Summerfield.
She attended the schools of Randolph County, was a waitress for many years and last worked as a Taxi Cab Driver in Elkins, having worked for the ABC Cab Co., and attended the Whitmer Church of God.

He was twice married, first to Bonnie M. White and later to Shirley Johns White, who survives at Catawba.
Also surviving are one son, William White, Roanoke, Va.; one stepson, Timothy Johns and wife, Sierra, Rocky Mount, Va.; two daughters, Susan White and Merry White, both of Roanoke, Va.; six brothers, Robert "Bob" White, Roanoke, Va., Dennis White and wife, Debbie, New Castle, Va., Kenneth White, Kingsport, Tenn., Scottie White, Dailey, and Harold White and Roger White and wife, Nancy, all of Beverly; two stepbrothers, Ralph Junior Helmick, Parsons, and Lester Allen Helmick, Elkins; two sisters, Nelda Kisner and Pamela McSpadden and special friend Bob Peters, all of Beverly; two stepgrandchildren, Britteny Johns and Warren Timothy Johns Jr.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Also preceding him in death were his stepfather, Ralph W. Helmick; three brothers, William, James and Carl White; and a sister, Margaret Roby.
Mr. White was disabled and was an avid hunter.
Friends were received at the Tomblyn Funeral Home today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Shirley Shreve officiated and interment followed in the Collett Cemetery near Hambleton. From 22 July 2002.

George S. White Jr.
George Solomon White Jr., 81, a well-known banker, a former resident of Belington, and for the past 12 years, a resident of Kerens Avenue, Elkins, departed this life, Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
He was born Oct. 17, 1920, at Philippi, a son of the late George Solomon White Sr. and Flavelle Nutter White.
On Nov. 12, 1949, at Buckhannon, he was married to the former Mildred Ruth Cutright, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, George Adrian "Rick" White and companion, Connie Yost, Belington, David Lee White and wife, Linda, Buckhannon, Richard Wayne White and wife, Jeana "Sis," Belington, and Jerry White, Elkins; one daughter, Amy Isenhart and husband, Mike, Elkins; and five grandchildren, Chista White, Pittsboro, N.C., Natasha White, Belington, Maranda White, Josh White and Tyler White, all of Buckhannon.
Mr. White was a graduate of Philippi High School with the Class of 1938 and attended Alderson-Broaddus College. He served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy. He served as president of the Banker’s Association in 1972, worked at the Philippi National Bank at Philippi, the Wood County Bank at Parkersburg, the Empire National Bank at Clarksburg, and worked as head cashier and later served as executive vice president of Belington Bank from 1967 until his retirement in 1985.
He was instrumental in starting the senior baseball league at Belington in 1968, and during his retirement he was an avid coin collector and enjoyed watching sports.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Thursday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Arden R. Beck will officiate and interment will follow at Mount Vernon Cemetery near Philippi. From 14 Aug 2002.

Lora White
Lora White, 84, a former resident of 517 Center St., Elkins, and a patient in Swisher’s Personal care Home in Elkins, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, in the home.
She was born June 9, 1917, at Davis, a daughter of the late John S. and Agnes Jordan White.
She was twice married, first to Wes Elza, who preceded her in death. In 1938, she married Paul White, who preceded her in death in 1958.
She is survived by one son, Don A. White and wife, Arlene, Elkins; one daughter-in-law, Bobbie Elza of Parsons; two brothers, Harry White, Elkins, and William White, Parsons; five sisters, twin sister, Lorraine "Katy" White, Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, Vallie Davis and Lucille Armstead, both of Elkins, Mona Carr, Dry Fork, and Elsie Masik, Trenton, N.J.; six grandchildren, Billy Dean Elza, Parsons, Eric Elza, El Paso, Texas, Todd Elza, Washington, D.C., Debra White, Jeffrey White and David White, all of Elkins; and several great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Jack Elza; one brother, Charlie White; one half brother, Gordon Lambert; and two sisters, Ruby Roberts and Geneva Abbott.
Mrs. White was employed as an aide at Oak Meadows Nursing Home in Alexandria, Va., for 25 years.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ralph Andrus officiating. Paul J. White
Paul Junior White, 62, of 17 East Hickman Road, Baltimore, Md., died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Stella Maris Hospice Center in Baltimore, Md., due to a hard battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 8, 1939, in Cherry Grove, a son of Clara Arbogast White and the late Berlin White of Cherry Grove.
Mr. White lived in Baltimore, Md., for 41 years and was employed at Caplan Brothers Inc. as a glass installer. He was an avid coon and deer hunter. He loved coming back to his home in West Virginia to deer hunt in the fall every year. He was a member of the NRA.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna White Colaw and Ellie Mae White; and two brothers, Charles E. White and Jackie Eugene White.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Edwards; one son, Paul Douglas White; two daughters, Polly A. Wise and Tracy R. James, all of Baltimore, Md.; six sisters, Leona Peck and Shirley Bennett of Cherry Grove, Margaret Wimer of Franklin, Darlene Willis of Ranson, Alice Losh of Staunton, Va., and Martha Gilley of New Market, Va. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas H. White of Cherry Grove and Roger White of Dunmore; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church in Middle River, Md., with the Rev. Beverly Oxenrider officiating. Burial will follow at the Polly Hill MEmorial Gardens, Middle River, Md. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Connelly’s Funeral Home in Dundalk, Md. Pauline G. White
Pauline Genevieve McCusker "Polly" White, 91, a resident of 311 Wilson St., the Dodd Apartments, Elkins, departed this life at 5:50 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital. Death was attributed to a stroke.
She was born Feb. 17, 1911, in Cumberland, Md., a daughter of the late Charles Joseph McCusker and Leona Glynn Clingerman McCusker.
On Oct. 30, 1934, she was married to Colonel Ambrose F. White, who preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1954.
Surviving are one nephew, Robert Thomas Larson Jr., Denver, Colo.; two nieces, Mary Michael McCusker Vallei, Morgan Hill, Calif., and Mary Ann McCusker Weiss, Alexandria, Va.; three great-nieces, Nichole Shanda and Heather Ashley Larson, both of Denver, Colo., and Erin Weiss, Alexandria, Va.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Eugene and James Francis McCusker; two sisters, Mary Margaret McCusker and Eleanor Elizabeth Larson; one half sister, Marie Jeanette McCusker Popp; one nephew, Kevin Eugene McCusker; and one niece, Patricia Gene McCusker Fleming.
Mrs. White was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1929, and attended Davis & Elkins College. She was employed by the federal government at Washington, D.C., for many years. She was a member of Saint Brendan Catholic Church of Elkins, and in 1934, during the fourth Mountain State Forest Festival was selected to be a Forest Festival Princess.
Friends will be received at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On Monday morning, Mrs. White will be moved to Saint Brendan Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Ruth A. White
Ruth Andrews White, 90, formerly of Buckhannon, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at her home in Catonsville, Md.
She was born in Grafton, on Feb. 20, 1912, a daughter of the late Baird C. and Mae McNemar Andrews.
She was a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity and a member of the Emeritus Club.
She began her 37-year career with Social Security in 1943, working in Kentucky before being named assistant district manager in Detroit, Mich., in 1953. She moved to Baltimore, Md., in 1955. Throughout her career, she specialized in assisting the mentally disabled and patients in nursing homes. She represented the Social Security Administration at conferences with federal agencies. Her work with federal legislation on mental retardation, passed in 1967, earned her an invitation from President Lyndon B. Johnson to attend its signing ceremony at the White House. She also worked on the task force, which resulted in the creation of the Nursing Home Bill of Rights.
Upon her retirement in 1980, she volunteered with the Red Cross and as editor of the Social Security Alumni Association newsletter.
She is survived by a daughter, Andrea Gail Storey and husband, Marvin, Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Richard Andrews and wife, Catherine, Buckhannon; one sister, Shirley Perry and husband, Morgan, of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Helfan and husband, Robert, Frederick, Md., and Kimberly Ann Brandt and husband, John, Columbia, Md. Also surviving are three grandsons, Jake and Tyler Brandt of Columbia, Md., and Joshua Helfand of Frederick, Md.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Jennings, Oscar and John Andrews.
Mrs. White donated her body to science and at her request her remains will be cremated. There will be memorial service in Buckhannon at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy should be made to the Salvation Army in her name. From 3 Dec 2002.

Willard T. White
Willard Trent White, 50, of Grantsville, and formerly of Randolph County, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, in Ravenswood.
He was born in Elkins, a son of the late Emerson and Nettie Summerfield White.
Surviving are four sisters, Velma Dolly of Ravenswood, Emma Cannon of Green Springs, Rita Williams of Pomona, Kan., and Joyce Trail of Belington; one brother, Ronald White of Ravenswood; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Emerson R. White; and one sister, Barbara Ann Hinchman.
Graveside rites will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman with the Rev. Shirley Webster officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery chapel one hour prior to services. Stump Funeral Home of Grantsville is in charge of the arrangements. From 15 May 2002.

Shirley L. Whitlock
Shirley Lee Whitlock, 79, of Petersburg, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, after a year long battle with cancer.
Friends will be received at today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Schaeffer Funeral Home, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville. From 25 June 2002.

Helen Bird Wilfong
Helen Bird Wilfong, 100, of Bartow, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins.
Graveside services will be Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Arbovale Cemetery with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. The Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale is in charge of the arrangements. From 7 Nov 2002.

James E. Wilson

Rev. Larry Williams
The Rev. Larry Dale Williams, 51, a resident of Pomona, Kan., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Indian Creek Nursing Home in Overland Park, Kan.
He was born Dec. 5, 1950, in Morgantown, the son of the late Rev. Gerald Vacle Williams and Virginia Ellen George Williams.
On Oct. 5, 1974, at Cleveland, Ohio, he was united in marriage with Kathy Summerfield, who survives at home.
Surviving are two daughters, Crystal G. Williams, Pomona, Kan., and Kimberly D. Williams, at home; three sisters, Linda E. Mitchell, Buckeye, Ariz., Brenda White, Elkins, and Sandra Honeycutt, Windham, Ohio; two brothers, Gerald C. Williams, Pomona, Kan., and Paul L. Williams, Edgerton, Kan.; one granddaughter, Makayla D. Williams, Pomona, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Williams had been a resident of Pomona since 1984. He previously lived in Elkins for many years and for 12 years in Cleveland, Ohio.
He obtained his general education degree.
He was employed as a quality control technician at Dot Label Inc., in Gardner, Kan., where he worked for 15 years. He was previously a press operator for 3M in Cleveland from 1969 to 1975, was a construction worker for Wolf Creek Power Plant from 1984 to 1985, and was a security guard for Spring in Gardner from 1985 to 1987.
He was ordained as a minister in the Apostolic Church in 1972.
The Rev. Williams will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary until the funeral hour at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Pastor R. Todd Nance of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church will officiate and interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kan. The family suggests memorials to the Williams’ Children’s Education Fund, in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kan. Virginia N. Wiseman
Virginia Nadene Wiseman, 63, a resident of Bridge Street in Junior, departed this life at noon Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been in declining health for a period of time and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born in Barbour County on Feb. 23, 1939, the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Geneva M. Woods.
On Dec. 27, 1978, in Elkins, she was united in marriage to Sterling H. Wiseman, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Hayward L. Woods, Belington, and Timothy Jack Wiseman and wife, Debra, Coalton; one daughter, Linda Sue Hymes and husband, Wally, Junior; two sisters, Gladys L. Lornes, Minnesota, and Sylvia Juanita Woods, Elkins; one brother, Earnest Troy Woods, Colorado; two grandchildren, Perry and Amanda Sigley; one great-grandson, Jordan Swiger; and a loving companion, Galford "Junior" White.
Also surviving are three stepgrandsons, David Allen Arbogast, Michael Lee Arbogast and Travis Wade Riffle.
Preceding her in death were one daughter, Gladys S. Sigley; one sister, Betty Jean Swick; one brother, Frankie Woods; and one infant great-grandson, Corey Blade Sigley.
Mrs. Wiseman attended the schools of Barbour County, was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Friday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor with the Rev. Jim Curtis officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery near Belington. The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Virginia N. Wiseman. From 7 Nov 2002.
