Wayne Elwood Parker, 74, a resident of Arthur, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at his home.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday. Interment will be at South Branch Memorial Gardens. From 18 July 2002.

Mary A. Parks
Mary Ann Parks, 63, of Route 3, the Harding community, died at 10:53 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Jan. 7. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Mrs. Parks was born July 23, 1938, in Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Cutright and Hattie Marie Cutright Taylor.
In July 1985, she married William "Bill" Parks, who survives at Route 3, the Harding community.

Gordie L. Pappas, 85, of Buckhannon, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2002.
She was a daughter of the late Waitman and T. "Will" and Katie M. Townsend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Angelos "Shorty" Pappas; one grandson, James Angelos Pappas; three brothers, Ray, Hoy and Charles; and five sisters, Lena, Lora, Doris, Catherine and Estella.
She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Markowich of Greenbelt, Md.; four children, Philip Pappas and wife, Connie, Danny Pappas and wife, Deborah, all of Huntington, Maureen Allen and husband, John, of Berlin, N.J, and Barbara Replogle and fiance, Gary Dowell, of Buckhannon. In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Caul, Deidre Frawley, Joseph Zara, Melinda Noll, Zachary Pappas, Angela Harford and Natalie Pappas; and her great-grandchildren, Priscilla, Beverly, Gabriel and Amber Pappas, Zachary, Christina and Shannon Frawley, Hailey Noll, Denice, Elijah and Alison Caul and R.W. Harford.
She was a member of the St. Spyridon Creek Orthodox Church in Clarksburg, where she was active in the Ladies' Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Organization. She was a longstanding member
of the Business and Professional Women's Organization of Buckhannon and a lifetime member of the Buckhannon chapter of the Women of the Moose, where she was a graduate of the College of Regents. She took pride in
having graduated from the University of Hard Knocks at the age of 81. She and her husband owned and operated businesses in Buckhannon for many years.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the Women of the Moose holding a memorial service at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 1 p.m., burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. From 20 May 2002.

Lucy Rebecca Pase, 53, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2002, at her residence. Death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born May 14, 1949, in Bayard, a daughter of the late Edwin Allen and Pauline Euhalia Miller Gaither.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Leonard Pase; three sons, Bryan Allen Pase, Carl W. Pase and Christopher J. Pase, all at home; three brothers, "Dude," Harry and James Gaither, all of Bayard; three sisters, Mrs. James (Nina) Sisson of Bayard, Mrs. Wayne (Frances) Bosely of Gormania, and Mrs. Bradley (Ruth Ann) Cooper of Fairview, Md.; two aunts, Arvella Sisler of Petersburg, and Twila Clark of Kempton, Md.; and two uncles, Art Miller of North Carolina, and Lee Gaither of Florida.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mrs. Pase was a cook at Melanie’s Restaurant in Aurora. She was a very loving mother and devoted wife. She was a faithful member of the Thomas United Methodist Church and Sunday School.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Thomas United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Winter officiating. James W. Patton
James W. Patton, 80, of 208 Wilson St., Elkins, and a patient in Swisher's Private Home Care in Elkins since June 1999, died Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 8, 2002, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
Mr. Patton was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Everson, a son of the late John Herbert Patton Sr. and the late Mary Blare Patton.
On Feb. 18, 1956, in Fairmont, he married Betty Jo Thomas Patton, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rex (Cheryl Ann) Bartlett, Jeanette, Pa., and Mrs. Robert (Debra Jo) Marchesani, North Palm Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Amanda Bartlett, Christopher and Hannah Marchesani; and a stepgrandson, Chad Bartlett, Baltimore, Md.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John H. Patton Jr.; and two sisters, Thelma and Helen Patton.
Mr. Patton was a graduate of West Fairmont High School and a 1949 graduate of Fairmont State College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the Philippines and Australia. He was employed by Monongahela Power Co. and served as division manager in Elkins prior to his retirement. He was a member of Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity and was named Outstanding Business Man of the Year in 1970 and the Merit Award Recipient in 1975 by Beta Alpha Beta. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins and taught the Bartlett Bible Class of the Church for many years. He was a 20-year member and former chairman of the board of directors of Davis Memorial Hospital. He was a member and past president of the Elkins Rotary Club, a member of Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce and Randolph County United Way. He was a member of BPOE Lodge 1135.

Alma W. Paugh
Alma Waybright Long Paugh, 87, a former resident of Parsons, and a more recent resident of Nella’s Nursing Home in Elkins, departed this life Friday afternoon, June 14, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
She was born June 17, 1914, at Oceola, a daughter of the late Don Waybright and Ira Bell Teter Waybright.
She was twice married. First, she married Paul B. Long, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Earl Paugh, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are five sons, Frank Long and Robert Long and wife, Rita, all of Parsons, Lee Long and Paul Douglas Long and wife Virginia, all of Hendricks, and Dennis Long and wife, Joyce, Bremen, Ohio; five daughters, Pauline Carr and husband, Lewis, Hendricks, Ruby Huffman and husband, Robert, Dry Fork, Kathleen J. Eye, Anchorage, Alaska, Trudy Helmick and husband, Russell, Hendricks, and Nancy Weitzel, Mesopotamia, Ohio; five sisters, Freddie Bonner and husband, Thomas, Gladwyn, Eva Eye, Hendricks, Erma Gordon, Keyser, Lorraine Fowler and husband, Leanard, Paw Paw, and Shirley McBee, Bowden; 38 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren.
Preceding her in death are two sons, Boyd Long and Stephen Dewayne Long; five brothers, Carl, Willard, Sturl, Earl and Andrew Waybright; and two sisters, Edith Long and Corneal Waybright.
She attended the one room Shavers Mountain School. She was an employee of the former Nella’s Nursing Home at the White Gables location in Parsons. She attended the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood and was a Protestant.
Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. On Tuesday, Mrs. Paugh will be moved to Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood where friends may call from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons. From 17 June 2002.

Boris J. Pausek, 80, of Thomas, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.
He was born July 24, 1921, in Thomas, a son of the late Blaz and Katarina Obresa Pausek.
He is survived by two sons, Boris Joseph Pausek and Edward Keith Pausek; one daughter, Melinda Lee Berger; one sister, Mrs. Eda Thayer; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Pausek was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II with field artillery and communications.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a vigil service to be held at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Thomas, with Father Lino Ebejer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Charlotte L. Booth, 64, a resident of Philippi, passed away at 7:38 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Barbour County, the daughter of the late Hersel and Gladys Mackey Casto.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 14, 1957, to Junior L. "Bud" Booth, who survives.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Fetter and husband, Shawn, Belington; two sisters, Hope Casto, Philippi, and Jackie Jones and husband, Richard, Belington; one brother, Paul Casto and wife, Betty, Elkins; and one grandson, Kelby Fetter, Belington.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Kathleen Casto and Kay Smith.
Mrs. Booth was employed as a nurse’s aide at Broaddus Hospital with 23 years of service. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the Indian Fork EUB Church.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 2 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dennis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. From 4 May 2002.

Minnie M. Payne, 97, of 8 Bush Ave., Philippi, died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital.
Mrs. Payne was born March 13, 1904, in Century, a daughter of the late Michael Sr. and Clara J. Dodson Spotloe.
She married Benjamin H. Payne Sr., who preceded her in death in 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Mardell Boni, Philippi, and Mrs. Donal (Pat) Phillips, Ravenna, Ohio; three sons, Perry Payne, Southaven, Miss., Ben Payne Jr., Philippi, and Dr. James Payne, Day City, Mich.; three sisters, Rita Cochran, Philippi, Kathryn Maxson, Century No. 2, and Pauline Prutsok, Summersville; two brothers, Mike Spotloe Jr., Philippi, and David Spotloe, Webster; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Lohr; and a son, Gordon Payne.
Mrs. Payne was a cook at several restaurants. She was a member of Ward United Methodist Church.

Walnut St., Philippi, Thursday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Rena Louise Payton, 37, a resident of Route 1, (Mansfield Addition), Philippi, and a former resident of Huntington, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 14, 1964, at Huntington, a daughter of Darrell Lowen and the Rev. Linda D. Payton, who survives at Route 1, (Mansfield Addition), Philippi.
Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Keturah Darlene and husband, Arlin Jackson, Huntington; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Darrell Andrew "Andy" Payton, Huntington, and Michael Todd Payton and wife, Wendy, of Grottoes, Va..
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, James Henry Payton; grandmother, Helen Louise Black Young; grandfather, Charles Allen Black Sr.; a niece, Darlene Sullivan; and a nephew, James Carl Sullivan.
She was a United Methodist by faith.

Leonard C. Pennington, 68, died Monday Sept. 2, 2002, at his home after an extended illness.
He was a retired mail carrier and was of the Methodist faith.
He was born April 22, 1934, at Slatyfork, a son of the late Edward and Flossie Varner Pennington.
In addition to his parents and wife, Luella Rose Pennington, he was preceded in death by sisters, Louella Mae Dumire, Laura Cathern Jones and Rita Arlene Pennington; and brothers, Grover Wilson Pennington, Ronald William Pennington, Edward Bryan Pennington Jr., Howard Lorway Pennington and Francis Lee Pennington.
Surviving are one daughter, Karen Friel of Bridgeport; one son, Leonard Pennington of Ida, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Linda Lass of Taylorville, Ill., Nancy DeVoe of Grosse Ile, Mich., and Susie Friel of Petersburg; one stepson, Ronald Titus of Smithfield, Va.; four brothers, Roy Delano Pennington of Green Bank, James Laddie Pennington of Durbin, Carl Blake Pennington of LaPulente, Calif., and Paul Dillon Pennington of St. Albans; four sisters, Lea Belle Gum of Cass, Hazel Juanita Hinnerman of Beverly, Betty Lou Virginia Swink of Cass, and Retha Pauline Doyle of Mace; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Paul H. Pennington, 84, of Potomac Park, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1918, in West Virginia, a son of the late Sam and Getty Pennington.
Mr. Pennington was a retired auto mechanic in Virginia. He was a member of the Piedmont Church of God at Piedmont.
Surviving are his wife, Della Lee Pennington; one daughter, Lana June Pennington, Beaver Creek, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Alice Jean Shuck, Chester, Va.; one son, Hugh Pennington and wife, Linda, Kernersville, N.C.; one stepson, Edward B.
Franchi, Richmond, Va.; one sister, Gladys Cosner, Mt. Storm; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at Scarpelli Funeral Home in P.A., Cresaptown, Md. Friday and Saturday. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home Saturday with Pastor Ada Kittle officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park. From 30 Dec 2002.

Zylpha Brady Hinkle Perdue, 93, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Dolestown Health Care Center. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Born July 6, 1908, in Barbour County, she was the daughter of the late Walter P. Brady and Bergia Knaggs Brady. She had been a resident of Akron for the past seven years and a resident of Doylestown Health Care Center for the past 16 months.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, A. Creede Hinkle, and an infant daughter, of Buckhannon; and Dan H. Perdue, her second husband, of Fayetteville.
She is survived by a sister, Blossom Thrash of Akron, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Brady, Titusville, Fla., and Helen Brady, Weston; several neices and nephews residing in Ohio, West Virginia, Florida, California, Maryland and Georgia.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Troy R. Brady of Florida, and the Rev. Bland Brady of Clarksburg; two sisters, Rosalyn Sturdivant, Coalton, and Lois Jackson Braghieri, Canton, Ohio.
She was past worthy Matron of the Princeton Chapter of Eastern Star of Princeton. She was a former member of the Fayetteville United Methodist Church and presently a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Akron.
Services will be Monday at Prentice Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Linda Somerville and Dr. Adril Thrash, nephew of Zylpha, officiating. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. preceding the services. Interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery of Buckhannon. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Adril Thrash officiating.
The family wishes to thank the people at the Doylestown Health Care Center and Hospice for their wonderful care. Virginia Juanita Pernice, 86, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of 8 Shawnee Drive, Buckhannon, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Hospital East in Orlando, Fla.
She was born Aug. 8, 1915, at Curtain, the daughter of the late James Edward and Lena B. Daff Wooddell.
She was married to Daniel Joseph Pernice, who died on Dec. 19, 1975.
Surviving are one son, James Edward Pernice, Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Lou Juliano, Worthington, Mass.; four brothers, Lew Wooddell and James Wooddell, both of Louisville, Ohio, Eugene Wooddell, Rochester, Pa., and Bob Wooddell, Trenton, Fla.; five sisters, Bernice Barnette, Front Royal, Va., Genevieve Mearns, Lost Creek, Beulah Gay, Louisville, Ohio, Betty Butcher, Garrison, Minn., and Linda Bjornfon, Brainerd, Minn.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Three brothers are deceased.

Bo Wayne Perry, 24, of 123 N. Chestnut St., Clarksburg, died Saturday, Dec.
21, 2002, at his home in Clarksburg.
He was born June 19, 1978, in Buckhannon, a son of Kenny Perry, who survives in
Mt. Clare, and JoAnne Linger Perry, who survives in Fairmont.
Also surviving are his stepmother, Teresa Perry, Mt. Clare; his fiance, Michelle
Baker, Clarksburg; one son, Sebastian Logan Perry, Clarksburg; one sister,
Serena Perry, Fairmont; and maternal grandmother, Margaret Linger, Fairmont.

Roy Petrice
Roy "Jack" Petrice, 74, of Coalton, the Pumpkintown community, died Thursday morning, Jan. 24, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
Mr. Petrice was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Mabie, a son of the late Nazarene and Florence Kimball Petrice.
On March 28, 1947, he married Rosalie Morral Petrice, who survives in Pumpkintown.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert Petrice, Pumpkintown, Eddie Petrice, Severna Park, Md., and Roy "Bug" Petrice Jr., Front Royal, Va.; four daughters, Patty Horseman, Ocean City, Md., Mary Ann McClure, Gray, Ga., Rose Howell, Pumpkintown, and Sandra Petrice, Virginia Beach, Va.; four brothers, Bill Petrice, Pumpkintown, Mike and Joe Petrice, King Summit and Jimmy Petrice, Elkins; three sisters, Mary Travise, Coalton, Rose McMasters, Dundalk, Md., and Celia Primavero, Coalton; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Petrice was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a coal miner and retired from Upshur Coal Co. He was a member of District 31, Local 8106 of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Coalton.

Barbara Jean Phares
Barbara Jean Phares, 49, a former resident of the Gilman community and a resident of Evans Road, Chenoweth Creek community, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center where she had abeen a resident for the past three and one-half months. Death was attributed to cancer.
She was born June 7, 1953, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Merrill L. and Ila Ruth Yokum Phares.
Surviving are her companion, Bernard "Bud" Moore; three brothers, Robert Lewis Phares and wife, Bonnie, Donald Eugene Phares and wife, Darlene, and Ronald Alan Phares, all of Gilman; one sister, Mrs. Jack (Diana Ruth) Murphy, Montrose; three nephews, Gregory Alan Phares, Adam Christopher and Trevor Lee Murphy; and several aunts and uncles.
Ms. Phares had spent most of her life caring for the elderly in private homes. She had a love for animals and enjoyed gardening and flowers. She formerly attended the Orlena United Methodist Church at Gilman and was a Protestant by faith.

Betty June Phares, a native and long-time resident of Elkins, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 in Mesa Ariz., after a two-year battle with cancer.
Mrs. Phares was the daughter of the late John and Lena Kittle of South Elkins, and the wife of the late Wilson J. Phares of Gilman.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Farris and husband, Randell, Lois Phares and Rose Keen; eight grandchildren, Chandra and Christopher Farris, Jenifer, Danielle and Brandon Phares and Tierra , Dasha and Martia Keen; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School. She painted planes and volunteered at the Lane Stanford Hospital in California during World War II, before returning to work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia. After the war, she resumed her primary career as a homemaker in Portsmouth and Norfolk, Va., where she was active in church and the PTA. She returned to Elkins in the early 1980s.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Phares on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Woodford Memorial Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Canfield Family Cemetery on Lower Cheat. It is suggested that donations of sympathy may be sent in Mrs. Phares' name to BSA Troop 853 Scholarship Fund, 7646 S. Willow Drive, Tempe, Ariz. 85283. Don Phares, 92, a long time resident of Randolph County, and a resident of the Harpertown Road, departed this life at 1:38 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1909, at Bushy Run, in Pendleton County, the 12th child of Isaac Phares and Carrie Boggs Phares.
He was twice married. First, he was married to the former Dollie M. Vanscoy, who preceded him in death, and then he was married to Virgie E. Canfield, who also preceded him in death.
Surviving are five sons, Isaac Phares Jr., Miami, Fla., John and Bill Phares, both of Elyria, Ohio, Don Phares Jr., Elkins, and Jim Phares, Girard, Ohio; nine daughters, Carrie Ellen Quattro, Columbiana, Ohio, Ethel Hazelwood, Lake City, Fla., Ina Pamer and Regina Ruth Spencer, both of Elyria, Ohio, Yvonne Phillips, Edgewater, Fla., Bobbie Haddox, Fla., Johnnie Minear, Elkins, Polly Minear, Michigan, and Nancy Minear, Elkins; one stepson, Lacy Canfield, Belington; two stepdaughters, Thelma Canfield Higgins, Buckhannon, and Wilma L. Canfield Biller, Kerens; one sister, Ruth Phares Sommerville, Elkins; 25 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Mae Phares Hohman; five brothers, Snowden, Frank, Clarence, Emerson and Dewey Phares; and five sisters, Nellie Vance, Ina Moran, Elaine Pressau Vance, Ethel Duckworth Moore and Noami Collett.
Mr. Phares was a farmer, coal miner, railroad worker, and retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of Elkins Church of the Brethren.

James William "Bill" Pharis Sr., 78, a resident of Junior, departed this life at 3:56 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. He had been in declining health for quite some time.
He was born April 5, 1924, at Belington, a son of the late Jack Andrew and Flossie Elizabeth Kelley Pharis.
On Aug. 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Janice Thema Wiseman, wife of 54 years, who survives at their home in Junior.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James William "Butch" Pharis Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Junior, Michael Allen Pharis and wife, Mary; four daughters, Linda C. Cox and husband, Gene, of Good Hope, Karen Snyder of Belington, Janet L. Baisi and husband, Rick, of the Weaver community, and Gloria J. Pudder and husband, Carl, of Junior; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, four brothers, Nelson, Harl, Richard and Jackie Pharis; and four sisters, Maxine Browning, Mildred DeCesare, Betty Poling and Mary Jean Poling.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Roy Pharis; one sister, Elsie Browning; and one son-in-law, Herbert Snyder.
Mr. Pharis attended the schools of Barbour County. He was an active farmer and timer man until his health began to fail. He was retired from the Badger Coal Co. and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America District 31. He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor, with Brother Wilfred Barbosa officiating. Alfred "Fritz" Phillips, 74, a resident of Coalton, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Phillips was born July 9, 1928, in St. George, a son of the late Homer C. and Belva M. Boyles Phillips.
He was married to Wilma Gene Lambert Phillips, who preceded him in death in March 1994.
Surviving are two sons, Alfred E. Phillips and fiancee, Mary Bartock, Baltimore, Md., and George E. Phillips and wife, Carol, Buckhannon; two daughters, Alfreda J. Markwood and husband, Rodney, Joppa, Md., and Mary E. Phillips and fiance, Cecil Seal, White Hall, Md.; three granddaughters, Katie Markwood, Shannon Phillips and Kristyn Ditzler; one stepgrandson, Ernest Gibson; one stepgreat-grandson, Brandon Gibson; one brother, Ronny Markley, Mabie; and one sister, Kathleen Chewning Rowan, Elkins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale G. Markley and Cecil Markley; and two sisters, Gretha F. Markley Moran and Dorothy June Phillips Lambert.
Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army in 1951-52 during the Korean War. He retired in 1992 following 38 years of service as an equipment operator for Continental Can Co. of Baltimore, Md.
He was a Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel on Monday from 10 a.m. until noon. Immediately following visitation, graveside services will be at the Mt. Arnold Roy "Ziffle" Phillips Jr., 47, of Parsons, died Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2002, at the home of his parents, Sockum and Cora Phillips. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
Mr. Phillips was born Aug. 4, 1954, in Parsons, a son of Arnold Roy "Sockum" Phillips and Cora Ann Kelly Phillips, who survive.
On June 3, 2000, he married the formerly Patricia Lynn Pennington, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Matthew Roy Phillips and wife, Tara, Parsons, and David Ashley Phillips, Morgantown; two daughters, Samantha Renee Zais and husband, Todd, Parsons, and Diane Melanie Davis and husband, Justin, Parsons; a brother, Nathan Dale Phillips and wife, Alma, Parsons; a sister, Beverly Ann Rosier and husband, Robert "Bud", Clover Run; and four grandchildren, Matthew David Phillips, Isabella Zais, Abigail Zais and Gabrielle Zais, all of Parsons.
Mr. Phillips was a 1973 graduate of Parsons High School, where he was a member of the football squad. He was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Company of which he was supervisor of manufacturing. He became a coal miner work for No. 1 and No. 2 Laurel Run Coal Mine as a faceman. He was a welder for Hinchcliff Lumber Co. for seven years and was a former employee of Ultilimax Manufacturing Co. of Baltimore, Md., and before his illness, he worked for Robison Run Mine No. 95 for Consol Coal Co. He was a member of the UMWA District 31 of Fairmont and local union 1829 of Thomas. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge 57 of Parsons. He attended Sugargrove Church in Mackeyville.

Arnold Roy "Sockum" Phillips Sr., 72, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Saturday evening, July 27, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Feb. 13, 1930, at Hambleton, a son of the late George W. Phillips and Gladys Peggy Bright Phillips.
On May 7, 1951, at Baltimore, Md., he was married to the former Cora Ann Kelly, who survives. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Nathan Dale Phillips and wife, Alma, Parsons; one daughter, Beverly Ann Rosier and husband, Robert "Bud," Clover Run; five brothers, Denver "Bud" Phillips and wife, Pauline, Holly Meadows, Orland "Poncho" Phillips and wife, Roberta, Parsons, Dale "Buckskin" Phillips, Montrose, Bobby Phillips and wife, Anita, Blackman Heights, and Harold Phillips and wife, Judy, Holly Meadows; two sisters, Virginia Yokum, Morgantown, and Irene Knotts, Blackman Heights; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Arnold Roy "Ziffle" Phillips Jr., who preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 2002; two sisters, Mary Ann and Doris Jane Phillips.
He attended the schools of Parsons. He worked for the former Dryer Box Company and Bethlehem Steel at Baltimore, Md., the former Dorman Mills of Parsons and the Parsons Tannery for 23 years and retired from the Parsons Footwear in 1992. He was a member of the former Moose Lodge of Parsons and attended the Mackeyville Community Church. He had a great love for the outdoors and was known for his gardens.

Carl L. Phillips, 68, a resident of Route 2, Philippi, passed away unexpectedly at 7:52 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2002, in United Hospital Center.
He was born Jan. 20, 1934, in Nestorville, a son of the late Jesse B. and Bertha L. Marsh Phillips.
He was united in marriage on Jan. 10, 1955, to the former Betty L. Bean, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Ann and husband, Timothy W. Howard, Smithfield, N.C., and Carla and husband, Scot A. Springer, Philippi; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse L. and wife, Penny Phillips, Bruceton Mills, Carl Kent and wife, Lora Phillips and Bryan E. and wife, Dianna Phillips, all of Philippi; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for J.F. Allen. He was a school bus driver for Barbour County Board of Education and retired as a heavy equipment operator for Badger Coal Co.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp., having served during the Korean Conflict on a Mediterranean cruise. He was a life member and secretary of the Philippi Moose Lodge and a life member of Laurel Mountain VFW Post 410. He was a member of the United Mine Workers District 31, Local 1491, where he served as president. He was a Protestant by faith.

Dorothy Mae Barb Phillips, 88, a former resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Glade Valley Nursing Home at Walkersville, Md., departed this life Saturday morning, April 6, 2002, at Frederick Memorial Hospital at Frederick, Md. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
She was born June 9, 1913, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Frank Barb and Bessie Gilmore Barb.
On June 12, 1937, she was married to Salathiel John "Lake" Phillips, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Roger Franklin Phillips and wife, Belinda, Silver Springs, Md., and Lawrence Stephen Phillips and wife, Linda, Frederick, Md.; three granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Barb and Robert Barb.
She is a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1931. She worked for the Loft’s Candy Store and the Joseph E. Horne Department Store at Mt. Lebanon, Pa. She owned and operated the Penn Avenue Dairy at Parsons until 1985. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church at Parsons.

Glenoka Phillips, 94, a resident of Isner Creek Road, departed this life at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past one and one half years.
She was born Sunday, March 22, 1908, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Arthur Chester Phillips and Cevilla Ann Kelly Phillips.
She had never married.
Surviving are two nieces, Audrey Sheidy and husband, Richard, Baltimore, Md., and Margaret Smith and husband, Larry, Severn, Md.; one sister-in-law, Helen K. Phillips, Elkins; a close friend Nancy Ramsey, who cared for Miss Phillips for several years; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of the her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, L. Hugh and Norman D. "Bus" Phillips; and one sister, Olive M. Phillips.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1925 and following graduation she was employed by A. Spates Brady for several years. She was secretary-treasurer and part owner of the former Ward Auto Parts Co., where she had worked from 1941 until her retirement in 1988. She was a lifetime member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Lillie Edith Miller Phillips, 89, of Norton, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health since suffering a stroke on Nov. 25, 2001.
Mrs. Phillips was born April 20, 1912, in Jimtown, a daughter of the late Ward A. Miller and Margaret Phillips Miller.
On Oct. 29, 1930, in Norton, she married Ray Phillips, who preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1980.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret Kathryn Bodkins, Norton; a son, Thomas Ray Phillips, Norton; a sister, Lucy Harlan, Jimtown; three sisters-in-law, Jane Skidmore, Leota Miller and Kathleen Miller; a brother-in-law, Robert Phillips; six grandchildren, Rick Bodkins,, Belington, Ronald Bodkins and Kay Johnson, both of Norton, Tammy Leggett, Buckhannon, Janet Shiflett, Norton, and Susan Shiflett, Elkins; nine great-grandchildren, Dusti Lopez, Tanner Collins, Andrew Johnson, Brent Johnson, Alexis and Abagail Bodkins, Chantelle Leggett, Jeremiah Johnson and Russell Shiflett; two great-great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Kristin Lopez; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Harry, Earl, Paul, Clarence, Jim and Leo Miller; five sisters, Una Bedford, Anna Taylor, Emma Rutherford, Margaret Harlan and Lila Miller; and a son-in-law, Richard N. Bodkins.
Mrs. Phillips attended the one-room Fairhope School in Jimtown. She was a cook at Norton School for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Phillips Chapel Church in Jimtown.

Marie Hile Phillips, 82, a resident of Spruce Street, Parsons, departed this life in her sleep early Wednesday morning, May 15, 2002, at her home. She had been in her usual health.
She was born June 2, 1919, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Albert Samuel Hile and Nancy Mae Auvil Hile.
On Aug. 20, 1949, she was married to Marvin Kenneth "Tim" Phillips, who survives. They celebrated 52 years of married.
Also surviving are one son, Terry Lynn Hile and wife, Judith, St. George; three daughters, Ronda Sherman, Parsons, Marsha Bishoff and husband, Roger, St. George, and Dawnelle Shehan and husband, Tom, Dale City, Va.; one brother, Allen Hile and wife, Dorothy, Parsons; seven grandchildren, Mark Sherman, Jeremy and Heather Hile, Alicia Bishoff, Tabetha Sturch, Christopher Moats and Austin Shehan; four stepgrandchildren, Tom and Lindsay Shehan, Christopher and Michael Bishoff; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Sherman and Conner Sturch; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Albert Junior Hile; and one grandson, Justin Allen Bishoff.
She was a graduate of Parsons High school with the class of 1937. She attended the Fairmont Business College for three years. She was a former payroll clerk for the United States Postal Service at Washington, D.C., and a former secretary for the Boys Forrest Camp at Davis. She attended the First United Methodist Church at Parsons. She was a homemaker and a member of Tucker County Senior Center of which she was a member of the Goldenaires.

Stanford Ulysses Phillips, 84, of 93 Poplar St., died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past 20 years and death was attributed to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Mr. Phillips was born Nov. 30, 1917, in Hambleton, a son of the late Jacob Eli and Cora May Phillips.
On March 28, 1942, he married Tina Day Phillips, who survives in Elkins.
Also surviving are a brother, Truman Lee Phillips and wife, Vonda, Parsons; two nieces and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Eldon Phillips and Elmer Phillips.
Mr. Phillips attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army 60th Military Police Company in Naples, Fogzia, Rome, Anzio, Rhineland, Southern France and North Africa. He was employed by Elkins Builders Supply for 25 years prior to his retirement on Dec. 31, 1982. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the IOOF Lodge No. 265 of Montrose.
He was a member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church.
