Fred B. Jaber
Fred B. Jaber, 87, a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2002, in Cuyahoga Falls.
He was born Aug. 8, 1914, at Fond Du Lac, Wis., a son of the late John and Amelia (Essie) Jaber.
He was united in marriage to the former Lucille Overfield, who survives.
Also surviving are three sisters, Lily Joseph, Akron, Ohio, Louise Nime, Fairlawn, Ohio, and Freda Staitz, Fairlawn, Ohio; three brothers, Lois Jaber, Fairlawn, Ohio, John Jaber, Fairlawn, Ohio, and Donald Jaber, Florida; and many beautiful nieces, nephews and friends.
An Akron native, Mr. Jaber retired from Goodyear Aerospace. During World War II, he served with the Army’s 29th Division during the liberation of Europe. He was a member of St. Joseph Melkite Church.
Fred had a truly generous spirit. He would avidly clip and collect coupons, and then go out of his way to share them with friends, relatives and even strangers.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 North Walnut St., Philippi, after 6 p.m. today. Dewey L. Jackson
Dewey Lee Jackson, 82, a resident of Coalton, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born May 6, 1920, in Pocahontas County, a son of the late William Burton and Elvie Thomas Jackson. He was their eldest son and the second of five children.
He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. James (Karen) Dittmore, Mrs. Deane (Darlena) Martinez, Mrs. John (Sandra) Sikora, Mrs. Edward (Francia) Overdorf and Mrs. Michael (Beverly) Henderham, all of Canton, Ohio; three sons, Dewey "Dave" L. Jackson Jr., William R. and wife, Brenda Jackson, and Michael Jackson Braghieri, all of Canton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Cuyler (Marie) Teter of Coalton; several nieces, Kathy Beahm, Mrs. John (Linda) Wood, Mrs. Robert (Terry) Broschart, Mrs. Dave (Debbie) Rowan and Mrs. Roger (Jody) Kimble, all from the Coalton and Elkins areas, and Judy Jackson of Florida; several nephews, Kenneth and wife, Teresa Pomp, of Belington, David and wife, Nancy Sturdivant, of Elkins, Melvin and Norman Haney of Medina, Ohio; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Marilyn Waugh; two sisters, Virginia Haney and Georgia Pomp; one brother, Victor Jackson; and his ex-wife, Lois Jackson Braghieri.
Mrs. Jackson will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a retired school bus driver from the Randolph County Board of Education.
Friends may call at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens. From 9 May 2002.

Nathaniel Garfield "Nat" Jackson, 59, a prominent local businessman, a resident of 135 South Randolph Ave., Elkins, departed this life at 7:05 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency room. He had been in his usual health and death was attributed to cardiac arrest.
He was born Sept. 14, 1942, at Elkins, a son of the late William Edgar Jackson and Carrie Barry Jackson.
He had been married to the former Frances Lewis, who survives at Hilltop, and remained his friend until his death.
Also surviving are one son, John Will Jackson, Elkins; four sisters, Willene C. Smith, Forestville, Md., Eunice B. Cobb, Arlington, Va., Mary L. Jackson Holley, Denver, Colo., and Edna McClure, Calhoun, Ga.; and one granddaughter, Jamecia Jackson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Edgar Jackson Jr. and Theodore Jackson; three sisters, Alyce M. Javies, Naomi Flagg and Gladys Jackson.
He attended the schools of Randolph County. He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1960, where he lettered in several sports and was All-State in football and track. He also performed with "The Shades" a well-known local band at that time and was an Eagle Scout.
He was a graduate of Purdue University with the Class of 1964, where he was an outstanding football player. After playing professional football with the Houston Oilers, he attended Emory University, where he graduated with a master’s degree in kinesiology in 1970. Upon returning to Elkins, he taught in the Randolph County Schools at Pickens. Until 1983, he was the financial aid director at Alderson-Broaddus College and West Virginia Wesleyan College. During that time he was also the assistant dean of students, taught kinesiology and was the blacks student’s advisor and wrestling coach.
He was president of the Eastern Regional Association of Financial Aid Officer’s and also taught psychology as adjunct faculty at Davis & Elkins College. In 1989, he purchased Elkins Fordland, which he operated as majority owner until his death.
He was a lifelong member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Elkins and served on the board of trustees and was treasurer of the church for many years.
From early childhood he joined the Elkins YMCA and was later employed at the YMCA. He served two terms as president of the YMCA board of director’s and at the time of his death was its longest serving board member. He was on the board of director’s of the Ohio/West Virginia YMCA, (Camp Horseshoe), and was a very active member of the YMCA Endowment Committee. He was honored as YMCA Volunteer of the Year in 1990. He was a member and past president of the Elkins Rotary Club and was currently serving as assistant district governor of Rotary. In 1980, Gov. Rockefeller appointed him to the West Virginia Human Rights Commission, which he served as its chairman. He also served as a member of the Region VII Council and on the District Advisory Council for the West Virginia Small Business Administration. He was a member of the board of directors of the Davis-Stewart Boys Home in Lewisburg, the Advisory Council of the Elkins Mountain School, the former Mount Zion Lodge No. 14, F & AM of Elkins, the Committee on Aging for Randolph County for 31 years and the board of directors of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
He was a member of the Oratorio Society at Davis & Elkins College, sang with various local choirs and was a member of the Cultural Awareness and Enrichment Group of Elkins.
Friends will be received at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 pm. Friday. Bertha M. Jarrett
Bertha M. Jarrett, 83, of 204, S. River Ave., Weston, and formerly of Kanawha Head, went to be with the Lord, Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Stonewall Jackson, Weston.
She was born June 21, 1919, at Walgrove, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ada Strickland Sampson.
She married Cam Jarrett, who preceded her in death on July 16, 9170.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Hissam and Sandra Jarrett, both of Buckhannon, and Debra Jarrett, Weston, where she had made her home; two sons, Harold Gene Jarrett, Elkview, and Dana Jarrett and wife, Judy, Buckhannon; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dayton Sampson, Paul Sampson, Darda Sampson and Donald Sampson; two half brothers, Walter Sampson and Carl Sampson; and one half sister, Velma Thomas.
She was a homemaker and attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday. Today, she will be moved to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Mary Ellen Finegan officiating. Blanche V. Jenkins
Blanche Virginia "Jenny" Helmick Jenkins, 77, a lifelong resident of Tucker County and a resident of St. George, departed this life at 1:15 a.m. Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2002, at her home. Death was attributed to leukemia.
She was born July 27, 1924, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Noah Helmick and Ora Eddy Helmick.
On Aug. 26, 1970, she married Ray Boyd Jenkins, who preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1980.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ruby A. Horn, Seneca, S.C.; three nieces, Carolyn Shreve, St. George, Marilyn Nielsen, Kerens, and Margaret O’Neil, Big Sandy, Montana; three great-nieces, three great-great-nieces, four great-nephews and seven great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Opal Taylor, Georgia Helmick, Ruth Helmick, Margaret Helmick and an infant sister; two brothers, Ralph Helmick and Lester Helmick; and a nephew, Gary Helmick.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1942. She was employed as an LPN for the Tucker County Hospital, where she worked a number of years in the OB and the nursery department. She was employed at the hospital over 35 years. She was a former employee of the Tucker County Senior Center. She was a member of St. George United Methodist Church Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Hendricks Free Methodist Church for 57 years and attended St. George Church of God.

Betty L. Johnson
Betty L. Shoulders Johnson, 69, of Webster Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at 5:55 a.m. in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 2, 1933, at Parcoal, a daughter of the late Gennis G. Shoulders Sr. and the late Edith Marie Cool Shoulders.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Wayne Franklin Delano Shoulders; and one sister, Frances Shoulders Bender.
She is survived by one son, Ronald L. Stout of Webster County; one grandson, Kevin Stout of Brighton, England; one brother, Gennis G. Shoulders Jr., Elkins; five sisters, Phyllis Byrd, Pope, Miss., Willa Hamrick, Elkins, Nancy Dawson, Highspire, Pa., Helen Beaver, Waco, Texas, and Rhonda Mott, Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Johnson attended the schools of Randolph County and was a Protestant by faith.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were donated to the Human Gift Registry West Virginia University Hospital. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Randolph County Humane Society. Donald Johnson
Donald Johnson, 80, a former resident of Heavener Acres, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, where he had been a resident for the past several weeks.
He was born Sept. 9, 1921, at Dryfork, he was a son of the late Jasper and Julia Turner Johnson.
On Nov. 24, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Milda E. "Betty" Flynn, who preceded him in death on April 20, 1990.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Verl (Sharon) Simmons of Beverly, Patricia Simmons and Mrs. Michael (Charlotte) Corley, both of Elkins, and Mrs. Ricky (Roxanna) Watson of Junior; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald R. Johnson Jr. and wife, Mary of Elkins; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Lucille) Freeland of Palm Bay, Fla., and Mrs. Dennis (Irene) Carr of Greenup, Ky.; one brother, Dale Johnson of Big Stone Gap, Va.; eight grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were one son, Jeffrey A. Johnson; one stepsister, Peachie Wilfong; two brothers, Benson and James Wallace Johnson; one stepbrother, Grover Wilfong; and two grandsons.
Mr. Johnson attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He retired from the U.S. Forestry Service.
Friends will be received today after 6 p.m. at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Tuesday at 1 p.m.
The Rev. Lester Boylen, pastor of Faith Tabernacle of Buckhannon, and the Rev. Terry Burgess, pastor of Elkins Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.
Interment will follow in McNeeley Cemetery near Hendricks.

Paul W. Johnson
Paul Willard Johnson, 85, of 219 Second St., Elkins, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past year and critical for the past week. His death was attributed to cancer.
He was born June 18, 1916, at Thomas, a son of the late Peter Alexander Johnson and Susie Katherine Dumire Johnson. On Aug. 5, 1950, at Oakland, Md., he married the former Ruby L. Taylor, who survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Paula S. Fuhrman and husband, Thomas L. Fuhrman, of Elkins; one brother, James F. Johnson and wife, Beulah Johnson, Mainesville, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Ruhama Taylor, Ocala, Fla.; two grandchildren, T. Brandon Fuhrman and Carrie M. Fuhrman Barger and husband, Deven E. Barger, all of Morgantown; and several neices and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline E. Bartasevich, his twin, and Edith Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Thomas High School with the class of 1935, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the 69th Signal Corps. He also served with Gen. George Patton in the Armored Division and participated in the Invasion of Normandy.
He was a manager of the A&P Co. and then owned and managed the Main Street Food Market at Thomas until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Thomas American Legion, where he had served as post commander for two terms, and H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post No. 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a member of the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center, where he had also served as a volunteer, and was a member of the Thomas Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a Democratic Committeeman in Tucker County for many years and was a Methodist by faith.

Tawney Johnson, infant daughter of Samuel "Sam" and Chastity Lantz Johnson of Route 1, Jenny Street, Philippi, passed away shortly after birth Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her maternal grandmother, Brenda K. Lantz, Mansfield Addition, Philippi; maternal grandfather Randy and wife, Maribeth Lantz, Ford Run Community, Philippi; paternal grandparents, Donald and Margaret Johnson, Union Community, Philippi; maternal great-grandparents, Lewis and Joelyn Ball, Mansfield Addition, Philippi; and paternal great-grandmother, Vonda Lantz, Ford Run Community, Philippi.

Mary J. Johnston
Mary Jane Johnston, 59, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at her residence while she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Charleston, where she served as the church organist.
She was a former elementary school teacher for many years in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. She also served as an administrative assistant at the Wordsworth Academy in Philadelphia, Pa.
She had a deep love for music and was a highly accomplished organist and pianist.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mildred Jorgensen Holeman.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Cyril Johnston; two daughters, Laura and husband, Robert Godfrey, of Cumberland, Md., and Karen Johnston of Morton, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Emma Godfrey, Robin Godfrey and Patrick Godfrey.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, Charleston, with the Rev. Gregg Hickman and the Rev. Charles Steele officiating. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Lafayette Hill, Pa.

Connie E. Jolly
Connie E. Jolly, 91, of Stafford, Va., died on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, in a Maryland hospital of congestive heart failure.
Mrs. Jolly was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Webster Springs, a daughter of the late Hanson and Daisy Hamrick.
She was thrice married. First, she married Patrick Harris, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Caleb Hughes, who preceded her in death. Third, she married David Jolly, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Harry Hanson Harris Sr., Myersville, Md., and George Arthur Hughes, Pennsylvania; a sister, Dora Ward Canterbury, Belington; a brother, Arlie Arnold Hamrick, Valley Head; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Arlie Arnold Harris, Caleb Charles Hughes and Ray Edward Hughes; a sister, Mattie Delana Turner; and a brother, Hardy Von Hamrick.
Mrs. Jolly was a waitress and hostess until her retirement. She was a Methodist by faith.
Funeral services were held in Hyattsville, Md., Dec. 22. Interment followed in Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.

Bernard S. Jones
Bernard Stanley Jones, 76, of Route 3, Hickory Corner Road, Philippi, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
Mr. Jones was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Lillian, a son of the late Glenn Jones and Leona Phillips Jones Moore.
On March 1, 1948, he married the former Ottis Belva Murphy, who preceded him in death on June 29, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, Charles O. and wife, Phyllis Jones, and Lemuel G. and wife, Debbie Jones, both of Philippi; two brothers, Alva Jones, Pennsylvania, and Burlin "Bud" Jones, Philippi; a sister, Pauline Burner, Philippi; two grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, a great-granddaughter, 19 stepgreat-grandchildren, three stepgreat-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Jones and an infant; three sisters, Irene Burner, Lorea Crislip and an infant; and a stepgreat-granddaughter.
Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He retired as a motorman and pumper for Pittson Coal Group with 32 years service. He played banjo with the Senior Citizens Band and was a member of Philippi Senior Center.
He was a member of the Ty-Hannon Sportsman Club and a member of Union Church of Christ.

Beulah Marie Jones, 91, a former resident of Montrose, passed away Monday, June 24, 2002, at Nella’s in Crystal Springs.
She was born April 17, 1901, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Orlan and Carrie Gainer Wilmoth.

Beulah M. Jones
Beulah Marie Jones, 91, a former resident of Montrose, passed away Monday, June 24, 2002, in Nella’s Nursing Home in Crystal Springs.
She was born April 17, 1911, at Montrose, a daughter of the late Orlan and Carrie Gainer Wilmoth.
She was united in marriage to Troy Jones, who preceded her in death on July 17, 1989.
She is survived by three sisters, Dora Woods of Marmet, Phyllis Cross of Elkins, and Evelyn Jones of Montrose; one brother, Clarence Wilmoth of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews including, Joe Jones, Glen Jones, Wanda Siler, Sherry Palko, Dianne Marstiller, Jim Jones and Robert Jones.
She never had any children of her own. However, she raised several including, Delbert Fife, Betty Fife, Floyd Channels, Earl Channels, Ralph Channels, Lawrence Channels, Ray Channels and Ann Schoonover and two that are deceased, Bob Channels and Betty Channels Evans.
Also preceding her in death are three sisters, Vinnie Scruggs, Pauline Crawford and Eva Channels; and three brothers, Darl, Bryan and Arthur Wilmoth.
She attended the schools of Randolph County and received her LPN License in the 1950s. After receiving her license, she did private duty for several families in the Elkins area. She was also the supervisor of food service for Davis & Elkins College. For six years she was the night supervisor at Nella’s before retiring. She was a member of Israel United Methodist Church at Montrose.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Thursday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Friday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley of Elkins will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. From 26 June 2002.

James Jones
James "Sam" Jones, formerly of Montrose, and more recently of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, departed this life early this morning, Sept. 5, 2002, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health.

James S. Jones
James Samuel "Sam" Jones, 65, a former resident of Montrose, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, departed this life early Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 2002, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health for many years.
He was born July 25, 1937, at Brown Siding, near Moore, a son of the late Nelson Jones and Nora Cassidy Jones.
On Jan. 28, 1971, he was married to the former Stella Amie, who preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 1999.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, having raised two nieces, Julie H.L. Ferguson and husband, Jeff, Elkins, and Margaret Almedia "Maggie" Amie, Montrose; one nephew, James "Allen" Amie Jr., Buckhannon; and one sister, Mary Streets, Philippi.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harvey, Ray, Alston, John and Earl Jones; and two sisters, Eva Jones and Lucille Streets.
He attended the school at Moore. He was a former employee of the Kingsford Charcoal Co. at Parsons and was a truck driver for the Ricottilli Lumber Co. at Moore.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday at 1 p.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery at St. George. From 6 Sep 2002.

Leslie C. Jones Jr.
Leslie Carl Jones Jr., a resident of 123 Robert E. Lee Ave., Elkins, departed this life Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2, 2002, while bicycling on the Rails to Trails in Tucker County. He had been in his usual health, and his death was unexpected and attributed to a massive heart attack.
He was born Dec. 21, 1938, at Elkins, the son of the late Leslie Carl Jones Sr. and Verda D. Dayton Jones.
On May 8, 1990, at Elkins, he was married to the former Dixie S. Singleton, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Yeary and her husband, Mike, Staunton, Va., Kimberly Rae "Kim" MacVean and husband, Chris, Elkins, Belinda Irene Jones, Mabie, Lea Ann McBride and husband, Larry, Mabie, and Jamie Sue Jones, Mabie; two brothers, Harry Richard Jones and his wife, Mary, Elkins, and Edward Darl Jones and his wife, Mary, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Helen Louise Lantz and her husband, Guy, Elkins; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Lee Rexrode, during 1973.
Mr. Jones was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1957, had worked for Labcraft, the Water Department for the city of Elkins, Western-Maryland Railroad and later CSX Railroad at Elkins and Hagerstown, Md., and retired from the Davis Memorial Hospital Maintenance Department.
He was previously active with the Elkins Lions Club; loved bicycling, gardening, making maple syrup and woodworking; and was an avid outdoorsman.
Mr. Jones was a life member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon of the church and head usher for many years. He was president of the Men’s Bartlett Bible Class of the church.
Friends will be received today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church parlor. On Tuesday morning, Mr. Jones will be moved to the First Baptist Church sanctuary where final rites will be held at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli and the Rev. Nancy I. Stevens will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens, formerly the IOOF Cemetery, at Elkins. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Elkins, 412 Randolph Ave., Elkins, W.Va., 26241. Lucinda M. Jones
Lucinda Mae Jones, 80, of Route 2, Belington, died Thursday morning, Feb. 28, 2002, in the Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care Facility, Philippi, following an extended illness.
She was born March 27, 1921, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Ellis and Ida Mae (Haller) Bryan.
April 8, 1953, she was married to Bernard Jones, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 1993.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Ray Jones, Belington, and William Albert Jones and wife, Lovetta, Boonville, N.C.; two half sisters, Margaret Cross, Belington, and Joann Westfall, whose whereabouts are unknown; one half brother, Harry Wilson, Belington; three grandchildren, Zachariah Jones, Hannah Jones and Stephen Joel Jones, all of Boonville, N.C.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Lucille Siebert, Ada Lipscomb and Edith Gay Poling; and by three brothers, Henry Bryan, Charles Bryan and Robert Bryan.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and had attended the Shiloh Church of the Brethren.
Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bryan Headley and Pastor Calvin Mabry officiating. Martha R. Jones
Martha Rein Jones, 80, of Dunmore, passed away, Sunday, April 28, 2002, at her home in Dunmore.
Friends will be received at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment will follow in Dunmore Cemetery. From 30 Apr 2002.

Mildred A. Jones
Mildred A. Jones, 88, a resident of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care and a former resident of Union community, Philippi, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care.
She was born July 26, 1913, at Mt. Liberty, a daughter of the late Bernard C. and Lena Holbert Shaffer.
She was united in marriage on Dec. 2, 1931, to Russell L. Jones, who preceded her in death in 1981.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Ronald Simpson, Mentor, Ohio; five sons and three daughters-in-law, H. Paul Jones, Route 2, Belington, Russell Jones Jr., New Martinsville, Rodney and wife, Sonya Jones, Union community, Philippi, Roger and wife, Jean Jones, Madison, Ohio, and Allen and wife, Linda Jones, Union community, Philippi; two sisters, Mary Nell Holliday, Philippi; and Wilda Posten, Pt. Pleasant Road, Belington; one brother, Hobert Shaffer, Moundsville; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Marietta.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Union Church of Christ.

Robert Jones
Robert "Robbie" Jones, 20, a resident of Castle Rock Estates, Elkins, departed this life Sunday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 92, near Dunmore, Pocahontas County.

Robert I. Jones
Robert Isaiah "Robbie" Jones, 18, of Lewisburg, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Pocahontas County Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born Nov. 21, 1983, at Kansas City, Mo., a son of Ronald David and Sherry Lynn Gutshall Jones.
Also surviving are maternal grandparents, Charles and Charlotte Gutshall of Liberty, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Sam and Linda Jones of Rogersville, Mo., and Pat Broom of Wichita, Kan.; and one sister, Maggie Jones of Elkins.
He was a 2002 graduate of Greenbrier East High School. He was awarded a scholarship for soccer at Sheppard College and attended the First Baptist Church in Fairlea. He worked at Movie Stars in Lewisburg.
Friends will be received at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Fairlea Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Blackwell officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Cemetery. Sondra Sutton Jones
Sondra "Soni" Murphy Sutton Jones, 62, of Ocala, Fla., died on Wednesday, March 6, 2002 in Ocala. She was in her usual health, but became suddenly ill during the evening and was rushed by ambulance to the Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Known as "Soni" to many friends, she was born in Huttonsville on June 6, 1939, a daughter of the late Russell D. and Kathleen Phares Murphy. She was raised in Elkins and resided there for most of her life.
On April 23, 1983, she married Bill Jones, who survives in Ocala. Also surviving are one daughter, Cathy Sutton Shipman, wife of Ed Shipman, and two grandsons, Mitch and Jason, all of Riverview, Florida. She is also survived by one brother, Gary Murphy, and one sister, Shari (Sharon Murphy) Mahan, both of Ocala.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Downtown Baptist Church in Ocala. She attended the Elkins public schools and graduated from Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College with a bachelor of science degree in sociology.
While at Elkins High School, she was very active in student body activities, and most notable were her selection as May Queen and participation as a majorette in the Elkins High School band. Her picture with the band, marching in Winchester, Va., during 1956-57, appeared in "A Treasury of the Saturday Evening Post."
A memorial service is planned in Ocala, Fla., at the Downtown Baptist Church for Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Tracy Willis will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain State Memorial Gardens in the early summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Downtown Baptist Church, 1632 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, Fla. 34470. Wanda A. Jones
Wanda Arlene Jones, 47, a resident of 314 S. Main St., Philippi, died Saturday, May 26, 2002, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 5, 1954, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late John Franklin and Virginia Scheuvront Jones.
Survivors include two brothers, Junior Scheuvront, Lost Creek, and Freddie Jones, McWhorter; one sister, Wilma Barth, Clarksburg; three nephews, Glen Barth, Steven Barth and Mark Jones; two nieces, Jenny Barth and Sharon Jones; and one stepdaughter, Patricia Buckingham, Rowlesburg.
She was preceded in death by her fiance, Edwin Lee McCartney.
Friends may call at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor James Johnson officiating. Genevieve C. Jorcyk
Genevieve Craven Jorcyk, of Spartanburg, S.C., died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Spartanburg, S.C.
She was born at Sago, a daughter of William James and Seymour Jane Grubb Craven.
She was married for 51 years to John Jorcyk, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Carole Elaine Jorcyk Harris, Spartanburg, S.C.; one granddaughter, Anna Virginia Harris, Spartanburg, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Amy Pearl Craven Beer and Una Craven Carter; and four brothers, Cecil Craven, Henry Craven, Morris Craven and Doris Craven.
She was a graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was an executive secretary for the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, Md. She was an active member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Spartanburg, S.C.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Interment will follow. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 19 Nov 2002.

Joyce F. Judy
Joyce Faye Judy, 49, of Petersburg, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 1, 1952, in Petersburg, a daughter of Mervin A. and Georgia Mae Thorne Stump of Dorcas.
She married Steven C. Judy, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Emily C. Judy of Petersburg; one son, Darin C. Judy of Petersburg; four sisters, Phyllis Alt of Dorcas, Janie Corley of Elkins, Denise Ours of Charlottesville, Va., and Nancy Rotruck of Petersburg; and daughter-in-law of Francis L. and Joan Judy of Ruskin, Fla.
She was preceded in death by one niece, Ginger Alt; and one great-nephew, Zack Alston Paul Alt.
She was salutatorian of Petersburg High School class of 1970 and a 1974 graduate of West Virginia University School of Medical Technology. She was employed at Grant Memorial Hospital Laboratory for 27 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Petersburg where she served as treasurer and organist. She was also active in the Women’s Bible Circle.
Friends will be received at Schaeffer Funeral Home Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at Petersburg First Baptist Church Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry M. Cantu and Pastor Fred A. Soltow Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joyce F. Paul D. Judy
Paul David Judy, 74, of Arthur, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va. Friends will be received at Schaeffer Funeral Home Thursday and Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville.
