Franklin J. Claypool
Franklin J. "Brother" Claypool, 45, of Route 1, Box 170-1, Buckhannon, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at 5:10 p.m. at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born May 3, 1957, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Franklin and Ellen Margaret Center Claypool.
On Nov. 23, 1996, he married Wanda Schriner Claypool, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Earl Claypool, Tony Metzler and Samuel Cody Claypool, all of Buckhannon; two daughters, Alisha Sholey and Searria Claypool, both of Buckhannon; four brothers, Russell Claypool, Charles Claypool, Lee Claypool and King Claypool, all of Buckhannon; seven sisters, Barb Smith, Betty Claypool, Margaret Norman, Martha Peck, Linda Howard, all of Buckhannon, Sherry Gould, Rock Cave, and Bonnie Neal, Buckhannon; and one uncle, Adrian Claypool, Buckhannon.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Louise Claypool.
Mr. Claypool was a timber cutter for MCM Enterprises. He attended Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday. Funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel today at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bonnie Starkey officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery. From 18 Nov 2002.

Lloyd David Clark, 86, of Petersburg, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mary M. Clayton
Mary Margaret Clayton, 95, of Kasson community, Route 2, Moatsville, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, in Talbott Person Care Home, Belington. She had been in declining health since late December.
She was born April 26, 1907, at Hammond, near Fairmont, a daughter of the late Daniel Webster Kirk and Clara Alice Annon Kirk.
On April 13, 1932, she was married to the Rev. Fred Russell Clayton, who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1988.
Surviving are two sons, and daughters-in-law, Daniel L. and Rebecca "Becky" Shankster Clayton, Valley Furnace community, and Dorsey and Rosalea Shaffer Clayton, New Martinsville; one brother, the Rev. Silas Hoover Kirk, Rivesville; one sister, Esther Lea Clayton, Fairmont; five grandchildren, David Clayton, Merinda Clayton, Carol Triplett, Janet Clayton and Kathy Higgs; and four great-grandchildren, Sara, Jennifer and Daniel Higgs and Raye Anne Clayton-Triplett.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Lee Clayton; one great-grandson, James Sullivan; five sisters, Martha Bean, May Tenney, Ruth Shaffer, Naomi Sanders and Orpha Martin-Fike; and two brothers, George Kirk and Paul Kirk.
Mrs. Clayton was a homemaker. She was baptized into the Church of the Brethren on April 5, 1925, and remained an active member throughout her life. Shiloh Church of the Brethren had been her home church for the past 62 years.
The family will received friends at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and at Shiloh Church of the Brethren from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday, when funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Garry Clem. Robbie L. Clem
Robbie Lee Clem, 40, of Sago Road, Buckhannon, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Clem was born Aug. 6, 1962, in Weston, a son of the late Robert Clem and Violet Bell Lewis Clem Caruthers.
On April 9, 1988, he married Connie Wilfong Clem, who survives at the Sago Road, Buckhannon.
Also surviving are three sons, Cody Clem, Joshua Clem and Ethan Clem, all at home; one brother, Ronnie Clem of Buckhannon; one sister, Emily Thomas of French Creek; four nieces and three nephew and several aunts and uncles.
He was a detailer.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Monday 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery at Weston. From 28 Sep 2002.

Ruby C. Cline
Ruby Catherine Cline, 90, formerly of Parsons and more recently of Northampton Nursing Home in Frederick, Md., died Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2002, in the nursing home. She had been in declining health.
Mrs. Cline was born Feb. 5, 1912, in St. George, a daughter of the late Richard Loughry and Flora Robinson Loughry.
On June 3, 1934, she married Dewey R. Cline, who preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1987.
Surviving are a son, Don R. Cline and wife, Jan, Frederick, Md.; a granddaughter, Laura J. Cline, Reisterstown, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was preceded in death by two sons, James D. Cline and John E. Cline; seven brothers, Woodrow, Tom, Adam, Elmer, Clarence, Amer and Floyd; and two sisters, Alta Nestor and Ova Nestor.
Mrs. Cline was a homemaker. She attended the one-room school in St. George. She was a member of the Tucker County Senior Center and the Goldenaires of the center. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Parsons.

Thomas A. Cline Jr.
Thomas A. Cline Jr., 81, a resident of Baughman Towers, Philippi, and Route 1, Moatsville, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital, Philippi, following an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 5, 1920, at Moatsville, a son of the late Thomas Alexander Cline and Dora Catherine Ritter Cline.
On Aug. 21, 1940, he married his wife of 61 plus years, the former Bernice A. Haller, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gerald Cline and wife, Dianna, Philippi; one daughter, Regina Murphy and husband, Lynn, Philippi; two granddaughters, Angela Doyle, Ashburn, Va., Lanessa Murphy, Philippi; two sisters, Marguerite Freeman, Moatsville, and Myrtle Haller-Moore, Montrose; and one brother, Dowden Cline, Jacksboro, Tenn.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Charles Hayward Cline; two sisters, Gretchen Madeline Cline and Mabel V. Moats; one brother, Thelmar Cline; and one granddaughter, Lynnae Murphy.
Mr. Cline was a retired carpenter in home and commercial construction and was a farmer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Combat Engineers. He was a member of American Legion Post 44, Philippi, a life member of Laurel Mt. Post 410, VFW, Belington and the Barbour County Senior Citizens. He attended the Nestorville United Methodist Church and Tuesday morning services at Baughman Towers. He played mandolin with the Barbour County Senior Citizens Band and was the former mandolin player for the Nestorville Guys.
Friends may call at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kenny Kendall and Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Roads Cemetery with American Legion Post 44, conducting military rites. From 2 May 2002.

James W. Cockerill
James W. Cockerill, 82, of Route 3, Box 369, Buckhannon, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon.
He was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Buckhannon, a son of the late George and Pearl Duke Cockerill.
On Feb. 21, 1947, he married Geraldine Harris Cockerill, who preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1997.
Surviving are one sister, Hazel V. Beer, Lavalette; one nephew, tom Beer, Kennesaw, Ga.; and two nieces, Sandra Crutchfield, Huntington, and Jane Whitlow, Vienna.
He was a service manager for Bill Kelly’s Chevrolet. He served in the Army from Aug. 5, 1942, to Dec. 15, 1945. He received the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. He worked at Curry’s Chevrolet from 1940 to 1980 and retired from the National Guard. He attended Reger Chapel United Methodist Church in Buckhannon.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William C. Margaret H. Coffman
Margaret Helen Ward Coffman, 87, a lifelong resident of 19 First St., Elkins, until entering the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 9:45 a.m. in the Convalescent Center. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Elkins, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary "Molly" O’Neil Ward.
On May 6, 1944, in Elkins, she was united in marriage by the late Rev. Joseph R. Sieber to Monson G. Coffman, who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1973.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Greg (Karen A.) Borzok of Harrisburg, Pa., and Mrs. John (Mary L.) Butcher of Arlington, Va.; two sons, James W. Coffman and wife, Bonnie, of Oakton, Va., and J. Thomas Coffman and wife, Rhonda, of Elkins; six grandchildren, Monson Anthony Borzok, Kathryn Marie Coffman, James Matthew Coffman, Nicholas Robert Coffman, Andrew Paul Coffman and Cassandra Marie Coffman; one great-grandson, Lucas Michael Pound; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one sister, Sister Mary Etheldreda Ward; two brothers, Eugene and John J. Ward; and one grandson, Colin Ross Coffman.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis & Elkins College. She was employed as a legal secretary for the late Judge Earl Maxwell. Until the mid 1980s, she was the coordinator for the Randolph County Meals-on-Wheels Program and also served as the past secretary for the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today after 6 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brendan Catholic Church Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father William Anderson will preside. A prayer service will be led by Sister Mary Ella Morrison today at 7 p.m. from the Runner Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Brendan Catholic Cemetery. Frankie Cogar
Frankie Cogar, 65, a resident of 425 Isner Creek Road, Elkins, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at 9:38 a.m. at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past four months; however, death was sudden.
He was born April 26, 1936, at Huttonsville, a son of the late Asbury and Vida May Collins Cogar.
He is survived by a close companion, Joan L. Cummins, where he had made his home for the past 35 years.
Also surviving are three daughters, Doreen Ann Cogar of Freeholt, N.J., Sarah Louise Floyd of Beverly, and Suzy May Cogar of Elkins; one stepdaughter, Charlotte B. Watson of Philippi; one son, Frank Jr. Cogar of Homesdale, N.J.; three stepsons, Darrell A. Cummins of Rock Cave, Joe A. Cummins and James E. Cummins, both of Elkins; one sister, Mary Leary of Cowan; two brothers, Emory Cogar of Florida, and Cecil Cogar of Jamesburg, N.J.; 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents are four sisters, Gladys Cogar, Wealthy Cogar, LeLa Fry and Opal Ward; and one brother, Acy Cogar.
He was employed by the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Protestant by faith and was a member of the National Guard. He also loved horses.

Raylin Cogar, 51, of Kingwood, died Monday, April 1, 2002, in Kingwood.

Edna M. Colaw
Edna Mae Colaw, 88, of Durbin, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Colaw was born Sept. 1, 1913, in Durbin, a daughter of the late Adam O. and Lucy M. Sutton Hevener.
She married Hayward F. Colaw, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Jenkins and husband, John Michael, Millboro, Va.; two granddaughters, Jennifer M. Jenkins and Amy Jenkins Moyers, both of Harrisonburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister, Jeanne H. Gragg; a brother, Henry G. Hevener; and a nephew, Blair Gragg.
Mrs. Colaw was a member of Durbin Church of the Brethren and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Robert H. Coleman
Robert H. Coleman, 73, of Buckhannon, Tennerton community, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
Mr. Coleman was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Pickens, a son of the late Cecil R. and Freda M. Hartman Coleman.
On June 28, 1951, he married Dolly Golden Coleman, who survives in Buckhannon.
Also surviving are three daughters, Vickie Snyder and Robin Oldaker and husband, Davis, all of Buckhannon, and Pam Jackson and husband, Tim, Upper St. Claire, Pa.; a sister, Edna Marie Schott, Bellmaur, N.J; and seven grandchildren, Micah and Evan Snyder, Tyler and Quinten Oldaker, Brent, Katie and Sarah Jackson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordan Coleman.
Mr. Coleman was a former employee of Bud Bennett Motors and retired from Buckhannon Auto Mall. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a 47-year active member of Tennerton United Methodist Church.

Trecie E. Coleman
Trecie E. Coleman, 76, of Pickens, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Janet Schultz in Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Gilbert and Orphie Cutlip Lough. Her foster parents were the late Jack and Maude Godfrey Perrine.
On Aug. 1, 1948, she married Cecil Gordon Coleman, who preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1991.
Surviving are eight children, Cecil J. Coleman, Webster Springs, John M. Coleman, Pickens, E. Robert Coleman, Clear Springs, Md., Cecelia Smith, Hagerstown, Md., Carol Poyner and husband, Daniel, Boonesboro, Md., Jeanne Lizzi and husband, Philip, Deptford, N.J., Janet Schultz and husband, John, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Evelyn Davis, Pickens; 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Levi Lough, Craigsville, and Alvin Lough, Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
She was a homemaker and attended Pickens Baptist Church.

Frank Edward Coler, 92, of Maysville, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Sharon S. Coley
Sharon Shaw Howard Coley, 47, a former resident of Elkins, and more recently of Nashville, N.C., passed away, Tuesday, April 23, 2002, from injuries sustained in a hit and run automobile accident.
She was born June 15, 1954, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor Roy Bender.
She is survived by three sons, Jeremiah Keith Shaw of Nashville, N.C., Jason Randall Howard, serving in the U.S. Army in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and Matthew Levi Howard of Beverly; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Howard of Morgantown; four sisters, Debbie Swisher of Fairmont, Jo Abbi and Ann Begley, both of Raleigh, N.C., and Kathy Hornbeck of Elkins; two brothers, Brad Bender and Brian Bender, both of Raleigh, N.C.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School and attended Davis & Elkins College. She was formerly employed as a lab technician at Kaiser Permente in Raleigh, N.C. She was a Pentecostal by faith.

Mary V. Collette
Mary Virginia Simmons Collette, 81, a former resident of the Mackeyville community, Hambleton, and more recently a resident of the Broaddus Long Term Care at Philippi, departed this life Monday morning, Nov. 11, 2002, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born Jan. 26, 1921, at Adrian, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Lee Simmons.
She was married to William Eldridge Collette, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1960.
Surviving are one son, Moody Eldridge Collette and wife, Margaret Mae "Peg", Philippi; three grandsons, Charles Lee Arnold and wife, Madeline, Hendricks, William Keith Collette, Hambleton, and Jacob Lee Collette and wife, Regina, Philippi; and three nephews.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a daughter, Raeanna "Phoebe" Arnold and infant twins, Kevin and Karen Collette; and one brother, James Simmons.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1940. She was a former employee of the Hinebaugh’s Restaurant for many years. She was a member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Parsons.
The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday at 2 p.m. Pastor Charles Arnold will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons. Trenton Rader Collier
Trenton Rader Collier, infant son of John A. Collier and Lorie O. Rader of Mill Creek, passed away at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2002, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, John and Faye Riggleman Collier; and his maternal grandparents, David and Gerlene Tingley Rader.
Also surviving are five uncles and one aunt, several cousins and several other family members.
A private graveside service will be held. The Rev. Frank Collier will officiate and interment will follow in the Tingley Family Cemetery on the Stonecoal near Adolph.

Bernard M. Collins
Bernard M. Collins, 82, of 224 Maple St., Northfield, Mass., and formerly of Arbovale, passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 28, 2002, at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Mass.
Mr. Collins was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Bartow, a son of the late Cecil and Lona Waybright Collins.
Mr. Collins worked in the area coal mines in West Virginia as a young man and then worked for several years as a fireman for the C&O Railroad. During World War II, he worked in Canton, Ohio, in a drop hammer shop. He worked in later years as a union carpenter throughout. He was a member of the NRA and loved hunting while in Northfield. He was a member of the Erving Evangelical Congregational Church.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Lee Lambert; and one brother, Harold C. Collins.
Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca Nohe of Farmington; ex-son-in-law, Thomas Nohe of New York; five cousins, Rufus Junior Elliot of Bartow, Gretchen Finnemore of Arbovale, Ducie Stone of Norfolk, Va., Paul Collins of Huntington, and Sacca Black of Northfield, Mass., with whom he made his home; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be at the Arbovale Cemetery Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Rittenhouse officiating. Interment will follow. Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale is in charge of the arrangements. From 3 Oct. 2002.

Delmas C. Collins
Delmas Clyde "Butch" Collins, 60, a resident of Mabie, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 8, 2002, at his residence. He had been in failing health; however, death was sudden and unexpected.
He was born June 9, 1942, at Adolph, a son of the late James Henry and Gertrude Beatrice Currence Collins.
On Jan. 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to the former Linda Lou Shreve, who survives in Mabie.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Vince Mastrogiuseppe of Coalton; one son, David Lee Collins, at home; one sister, Mrs. Foster (Bonnie Sue) Wiliams Jr. of Harding; two brothers, Philmore Collins and wife, Delores, of Adolph, and Denver Collins and wife, Linda, of Mill Creek; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Fox Shreve, who had made her home with Butch and Linda; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were two sisters, infant Jeanette Collins and Donna Jean Finlen; and his father-in-law, Clifford "Bill" Shreve.
He was a truck driver and was last employed by Consolidated Coal Co., where he had 26 years of service, retiring in 1992 after becoming disabled. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Friday after 5 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Verl L. Simmons, pastor of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church, officiating. Sarah L. Conrad, 90, a resident of Valley Head for many years and a more recent resident of Webster Springs, where she made her home with Keith and Hope Hamrick since March of 2001, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Talbott Personal Care Home in Belington, where she had been a patient since Oct. 9, 2002.
She was born May 25, 1912, at Valley Head, a daughter of the late Jonathan and Ellen Ware Hamrick.
She was married to Ira Harrison Conrad, who preceded her in death on June 24, 2001.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Susan Conrad in 1959; and four brothers and six sisters.
Mrs. Conrad was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing and making quilts. She was a member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Tuesday morning, she will be moved to Valley Head United Methodist Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Kyle C. Conner, 72, of Chestnut Flats Road, Route 1, Belington, died Wednesday evening, May 15, 2002, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born April 30, 1930, at Newlonton, Upshur County, a son of the late Bruce W. and Alma Shock Conner.
On June 3, 1954, he married the former Ruth M. Gottschalk, who survives at Chestnut Flats Road.
Also surviving are one son, Will F. Conner, Kearsarge, N.H.; four daughters, Rosmarie Conner, Sanbornton, N.H., Barbara Hancock and Evelyn Joy, both of Ooltewah, Tenn., and Marjorie Robertson, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Dale Conner, Buckhannon, and Howard Conner, Belington; two sisters, Jessie Elmer, Silver Springs, Md., and Mildred Carpenter, Belington; and seven grandchildren, Robert Lowery, Melody Lowrey, Scott Robertson, Heather Robertson, Shane Inman, Cory Thomas and Brooke Thomas. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Conner and an infant
brother.
Mr. Conner was a former teacher, a former farm foreman, a former maintenance supervisor and retired from Conner's Appliance Sales and Service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with American Occupation Forces in Germany. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Buckhannon.

Dr. Hugh H. Cook Jr.
Dr. Hugh H. Cook Jr., of Jesup, Ga., formerly of Dothan, Ala., and Wilmington, N.C., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, in the Veterans Hospital in Dublin, Ga., after an extended illness.
He married Pauline "Polly" Cook, who survives in Jesup, Ga.
Also surviving are a son, Commander Hugh H. Cook III, Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter, Hilary C. Rouse, Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Max W. Cook, Fairfax, Va.; and four granddaughters, Amanda and Jessica Rouse and Stacy and Kristen Cook.
Dr. Cook was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jesup, Ga. He was a graduate of Wake Forest College and Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
He served eight years in the U.S. Army.
Dr. Cook served on the board of directors of Memorial General Hospital in Elkins where he was a member of the staff and was the medical director for many years. He was the head of the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Golden Medical Group and served on the board of directors of the First State Bank in Elkins. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physician Executives and was a diplomat of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After retirement from his practice in West Virginia, he worked for the North Carolina Department of Public Health.
Friends were received at Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home of Jesup, Ga. Funeral services were held Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Grantham officiating. Interment followed in Screven City Cemetery with military honors. Mary Olive Grace Cook, 89, of Cleveland, Ga., formerly of Cass, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Gateway Nursing Home in Cleveland, Ga.
Mrs. Cook was born March 20, 1913, at Cass, a daughter of the late Strickler and Bessie Ann Cassell McLaughlin.
She was a resident of Gateway Nursing Home in Cleveland, Ga., and was formerly of Cass. She was a member of Green Bank Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Cecil Cook on May 5, 1962; a son, Harry Leonard McLaughlin; a sister, Annie Varner; and two brothers, Ira and Harmon McLaughlin.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Prater of Clermont, Ga., and Estelle McLaughlin of Lancaster, Pa.; three sons, Larry Cook of Clermont, Ga., Monroe Cook and Roger Cook, both of Fredericksburg, Va.; one brother, Norman McLaughlin of Pinehurst, N.C.; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Delmas J. Cool, 54, of Hampton Road, Buckhannon, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
Mr. Cool was born March 9, 1947, in Webster County, a son of the late Maynard B. and Glade M. Davis Cool.
He married Hazel Long Cool, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Danny G. Hines, Mill Creek, Berneta F. Hines Gum and Michael L. Hines, both of Webster Springs, and James L. McCutchan, Buckhannon; a sister, Retha M. Taylor, Clay County; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Sherlene Hines Cool; and two brothers.
Mr. Cool was a retired truck driver.

Virginia Fern Coontz, 80, of Mabie, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 27, 1921, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Robert and Louella Gower Johnson.
She married Carl D. Coontz, who preceded her in death March 23, 1987.
She is survived by one daughter, Faye Bertelli and husband, Richard, Mabie; two granddaughters, Frances Frazer and husband, Robert, Elkins, and Angela Bertelli, Hillsboro; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Adrienna Frazer, Lorain, Ohio; and one sister, Irene Rowan, Monterey, Va.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Coontz; and two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Coontz attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center, an associate member of the United Mine Workers of America and was a Methodist by faith.

Joe Henry Cooper, 77, a lifelong resident of Harman, and more recently a resident of Holbrook Nursing Home at Buckhannon, departed this life at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the nursing home. He had been in declining health for the past eight-and-one-half years and death was attributed to Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born March 13, 1924, at Harman, a son of the late Charles Henry Cooper and Flodie Lantz Cooper.
He was married to the former Elva Hedrick, who preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1988.
Surviving are two sons, Joe Henry Cooper Jr. and wife, Sandy, Harman, and Earl Summerfield and wife, Mary, Missouri; five daughters, Wilma C. "Willie" Elliott, Wadestown, Eleanor Barr and husband, Alan, Stephens City, Va., Virginia Bland and husband, Gerald, Petersburg, Mary Cardill, Dixon, Ky., and Thelma Richardson and husband, Arnold, King George, Va.; two sisters, Phoebe L. Lawrence and husband, Carl Gene, Alexandria, Va., and Carol Jean Pine and husband, Bill, Radcliff, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Calvin Cooper; three sisters, Sally Harper, Virginia Blizzard and Mary Alice Vance; and one infant great-granddaughter.
He attended the schools at Harman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theatre and the attack on Normandy and received the Purple Heart. He was a logger and carpenter.
He was a charter and lifetime member of the Harman Post 5781, Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was a former past commander for many years. He was a member of Carpenters Local Union 476 of Clarksburg and a member of Harman Church of the Brethren. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Friends will be received at Harman Church of the Brethren from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the church Friday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Joseph Mininger will officiate and interment will follow at Cooper Cemetery at Harman, where the H.W. Vanessa Lynn Cooper, infant daughter of James Donald "J.D." and Stephanie Watkins Cooper of Elkins, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, May 13, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. God sent this little angel into the lives of her parents and twin sister, Victoria Marie Cooper; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Vickie Wilfong Cooper of Elkins; her maternal grandparents, Jeff and Katie Amick Watkins of Elizabeth; her paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Martha LeCrone Cooper and Nancy Horton Elders, all of Missouri; her maternal great-grandparents, Betty Bain Watkins of Elizabeth and Jess and Dorothy Waller Amick of Parkersburg; her paternal great-great-grandfather, Marvin Cooper of Missouri; and her aunts and uncle, Jennifer, Jessica and Braxton Cooper of Elkins, and Stormi Watkins of Elizabeth.
Little Vanessa is now peacefully resting in the arms of her paternal great-grandfather, James Elder; and her maternal great-grandfather, Ernest Watkins.

Betty J. Jones Confere, 62, of Arlington Community, Rock Cave, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at home, where she was under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice and the Upshur County Senior Center.
She was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Gaines, a daughter of the late William C. Lewis and the late Matilda J. Lee Lewis.
She is survived by her former husband, Jack Jones and preceded in death by her late husband the late George Confere.
Surviving are four daughters, Brenda Kay Alderman of Akron, Ohio, Tammy Renne Samples and Betty Jean Jones, both of Buckhannon, and Jackie Ann Nido of Cleveland, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Jacqueline Lindow, Debbie Blum, Billie Jo Jeffries, G.W. Nan Lou Clark Corbin, 75, a resident of Sullivans Crossing, Elkins, departed this life at 6:15 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for the past 10 years and death was attributed to respiratory failure.
She was born Wednesday, May 12, 1926, at Belington, a daughter of the late Osceola Clark and Maude Wilfong Clark.
She was married to James O. Corbin, who preceded her in death on May 7, 1992.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Corbin and Patrick Corbin, both of Elkins; one sister, Jacque Shockey and husband, Earl, Waynesboro, Pa.; and two grandsons, David Allen Corbin, Phoenix, Ariz., and Joshua Warren Corbin, Morgantown.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Tommy Clark; and two sisters, Flodine Weaver and Betty Pingley.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School. She had worked as a welder for ship yards at Baltimore, Md., for Reidboard Brother's Co., the Crystal Key Market, the Elkins Garden Fresh, R.H. Armstrong and with the Randolph County School's Foster Grandparent Program as a Foster Grandmother at Jennings Randolph Elementary School. She was a member of Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the H.W. Daniel's Post 29, American Legion Auxiliary, the Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62, the Pythian Sisters No. 77, the Womans Club of Elkins and the Mountain Weaver's Guild. She worked as an election poll worker at Williams Building and was a Nazarene.

Louis N. "Lou" Corder, Sr., 67, a resident of Nelson’s Mobile Home Court, Beverly, departed this life Tuesday morning, Nov. 26, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sunday, May 5, 1935, at Alpena, a son of the late Harold Vernon Corder and Mable Marie Farris Corder.
On Nov. 16, 1963, at Oil City, Pa., he married the former Hilda Jean Devlin, who preceded him in death, on Jan. 1, 1994.
On July 14, 2000, at Beverly, he was married to the former Betty Jean Sharp, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Louis Corder Jr., Elkins, and David Corder, Saltsburg, Pa.; two stepsons, John Nash, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Charles Tiffner, Timberville, Va.; three stepdaughters, Gloria Nash Ciocco, Saxonburg, Pa., Martha McDonald and Delores Snelson, both of Elkins; two brothers, Garvin Corder, Montrose, and Jerry Corder, Elkins; two sisters, Betty Jo Groves and Faye Moore, both of Elkins; 11 stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Victor Leon Corder, Eugene T. Corder and an infant; and three sisters, Patty Corder, Freda Richards and an infant.
He attended the schools of Alpena and had worked as a fencing installer for the Matta Fence Co. at Pittsburgh, Pa. He attended the Believer’s Fellowship Church. He was a member of the Star Mail Carrier’s Association and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Robert Lee Corder, 97, of Brushy Fork community, Route 1, Bridgeport, died Monday morning, Oct. 7, 2002, in the home of Charles and Sherry Sellers at Fox Run Road, Jane Lew.
He was born Aug. 11, 1905, at Brushy Fork community, a son of the late Perry Edward and Lucy Crouch Corder.
On April 30, 1932, he married the former Lelia Blanche Wolfe, who preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1993.
Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews including several reared by Mr. and Mrs. Corder; Jeanie Menighan and John "Pete" Schnably, both of Bridgeport, Cyrus Guy Shipman, Painesville, Ohio, Caroline Menighan, Huntington; grandnieces, Jamie, Casey and Amber Schnably; one sister-in-law, Caroline Wolfe Schnably Cutlip, Bridgeport; two brothers-in-law, Francis Wolfe, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Blair Wolfe, Fairmont.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Marie Corder and two infant sisters; four brothers, Herbert Corder, Harry Corder, Bernie Corder and Piatt Corder; a niece, LaDonna June Stemple; and nephew, Capt. Donald F. Schnably, U.S.A., who were reared in the Corder home.
Mr. Corder was a farmer and a Protestant by faith.

Sybil G. Corley
Sybil Grey Corley, 94, of Valentine’s Personal Care Home of Elkins since 1991, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in the personal care home under the care of Mountain Hospice. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.
Miss Corley was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Tighview, a daughter of the late Archibald Wilson Corley and Dora A. Corley.
She had never married.
Surviving are a brother, A.B. "Brownie" Corley, Buckhannon; five nephews, three nieces, several great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews, and a cousin.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson and Thomas Corley.
Miss Corley attended the schools of Barbour County. She graduated from Belington High School in 1929 and Davis & Elkins College in 1932 where she received a business degree. She was a 37-year employee of Kelly Foundry and Machine Co. working in payroll, billing and clerical capacities. She was a member of Delphia Rebekah Lodge 62, Randolph Chapter 74, Order of the Eastern Star and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She had attended the Weaver Church.

Flora Ellen Kitzmiller Cosner, 88, formerly of Mt. Storm, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in Hampshire Center in Romney, where she had resided since April 6, 2000.
Mrs. Cosner was born April 25, 1913, in Mt. Storm, a daughter of the late Walter Filmore Kitzmiller and Prudence Etalka Aronhalt Kitzmiller.
On Aug. 28, 1928, she married Amos O. Cosner, who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1994.
Surviving are a daughter, Frances Alt and husband, Delmar, Petersburg; two sisters, Corene Shepard and Kathleen Rinker and husband, Luther, all of Mt. Storm; a sister-in-law, Mildred Cosner, Cumberland, Md.; a brother-in-law, Ray Cosner, Hampshire Center, Romney; a granddaughter, Tammy Pehowski, Winchester, Va.; and three great-grandchildren, E.J., Amanda and Desert.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Cosner was a member and deaconess of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren.

Mae Pritt Pudder Cosner, 83, a former resident of 301 Pleasant Ave., Elkins, passed away Friday, May 31, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. in Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born Oct. 18, 1918, at Adolph, a daughter of the late Norman and Belle Chewning Pritt.
She was twice married. Her first husband, Gilbert "Gib" Pudder, preceded her in death in September of 1936. Her second husband, Harold Cosner, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda Howell and husband, Clyde, of the Ward Road; one brother and sister-in-law, James Pritt and wife, Edna, of Philippi; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her stepmother, Mary Pritt, whom had raised her since she was six months old; five sisters, Sylvia Jean Currence, Bertha Pritt, Laura Shrader, Josephine Bennett and Emma Jean Kisner; and four brothers, Jess, Raymond, Ross and Franklin Pritt.
She was formerly employed as a cook for the old City Restaurant and had retired from the West Virginia Children’s Home after several years of service. She was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday after 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel Thursday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Porter W. Cosner
Porter "Pete" W. Cosner, 86, a resident of Thomas, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.
He was born June 4, 1916, in Canaan Valley, a son of the late Commodore Porter and Eliza Jane Long Cosner, the first permanent settlers of Canaan Valley.
He was the last surviving member of the immediate Cosner family.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Juanita Eye Cosner; three daughters, Ruth Ann and Steven H. Cooper of Dryfork, Nancy and Adam R. Hanshew of Wasilla, Alaska, and Deborah Sharp of St. George; four grandchildren, Stephanie Cooper, Steven H. Cooper Jr., Cynthia (and Mike) Street of Anchorage, Alaska, Dawn (and Kenny) Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kenneth Smith of Parsons, and Michael and Mason Street of Anchorage, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, nine sisters, one son-in-law, John H. Sharp; and one grandchild, John H. Sharp Jr.
Mr. Cosner attended the Cosner school in Canaan Valley. He was a retired farmer and construction worker and served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic with the 130th infantry. He was member of the NRA and Mt. Top Hunt Club.
At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated. Funeral services will be held at Buena Chapel United Methodist Church, Canaan Valley Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Plaster officiating. Interment will follow in Buena Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Buena Chapel, HC 70, Box 285, Davis, W.Va. 26260 in Pete’s memory. Wilma L. Cottrell
Wilma Lee Lambert Cottrell, 65, a resident of the Lambert Road on Middle Mountain, departed this life at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for the past two and one half years.
She was born Feb. 21, 1937, at Hunting Ground, Pendleton County, a daughter of the late William C. Lambert and Nola Mae Nelson Lambert.
On Dec. 1, 1955, at the Scott Presbyterian Church at Alpena, she was married to Roger M. Cottrell, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry A. Cottrell, Elkins, and Henry D. Cottrell, Middle Mountain; two daughters, Theresa L. Cottrell, Middle Mountain, and Barbara A. Witek, Montrose; two brothers, Lloyd Lambert, Middle Mountain, Zell Lambert, Akron, Ohio; one sister, Marie White, Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, Christopher Gilgenast, Athens, Ohio, Jennifer Cottrell, Valley Bend, Jamie and Melissa Witek, Montrose, and Cassandra Cottrell, Dailey; and one great-grandson, Daniel Gilgenast.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lambert; and two sisters, Minnie San Julian and Sallie Peffer.
She attended the Lambert School and was a graduate of Harman High School with the class of 1955. She had worked for Reidboard Brothers, Bata Shoe Company and Weis Market at Manassas, Va. She was a member of the Job Church of God.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ralph W. Cox Sr.
Ralph William Cox Sr., 57, a resident of Route 3, Elkins, departed this life at 11:48 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health for the past 13 years and death was attributed to heart failure.
He was born May 5, 1944, at Elkins, a son of the late Lundy Davis Cox and Mecca Mae Peppo Cox.
On March 17, 1967, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Bonnie Faye Armentrout, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Ralph William "Billy" Cox Jr. and wife, Frances, Glenmore community, Elkins, Richard Lee Cox and wife, Mary Beth, Belington, and David Paul Cox, Huttonsville; twin daughters, Shelly Ann Canfield and husband, Eric, Montrose, and Kelly Lynn Carpenter and husband, Ronald, Glenmore community, Elkins; one brother, Nuncio George Cox, Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Betty Louise Caywood and husband, Larry, Elkins; one grandson, Justin Cody Cox; five granddaughters, Jennifer Renee, Tara Jo, Heather Nicole and Kimberly Dawn Cox and Megan Lynn Carpenter; and a cousin, Rosemarie Peppo Wright, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by one infant brother.
He attended the schools of Randolph County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War and was in the U.S. Army Reserves for 14 years. He had worked for the water treatment department for the city of Elkins for 14 years. He was a member of H.W. Daniel’s Post 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church and was an avid outdoorsman.

Ronald C. "Frank" Craig, 72, of Ireland, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Craig was born March 10, 1929, in Walkersville, a son of the late Dencil Clark and Lucy Harris Craig.
On May 9, 1953, he married Gale Miller Craig, who survives in Ireland.
Also surviving are two sons, Stephen L. Craig and Douglas L. Craig, both of Ireland; two daughters, Debra Lambert, Weston, and Tamera K. Craig, Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Charles E. Craig, Roanoke, and Donald R. Craig, Buckhannon; a sister, Norene Caberlson, Fairfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Oral Craig; and a sister, Zula Craig.
Mr. Craig was a timberman and founder of Mountain State Log Homes. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 697 of Jane Lew and member of the VFW Post 5131 of Jane Lew.
He attended the Ireland United Methodist Church.

Veon Crawford
Veon Crawford, 86, formerly of Parkersburg, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Alliance Personal Home Care in Grafton.
He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Stephen Leslie and Hattie Poling Crawford.
He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church. He owned and operated Crawford Appliance Services for years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, and was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics and of United Commercial Travelers of America.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, whom he married Dec. 31, 1943, Bonnidene Starkey Crawford; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Stephen and Kandes Crawford of Elkins, and Rev. Larry Veon and the Rev. Ann Crawford of Grafton; three grandchildren, Stephanie Haynes and husband, Voras, of Elkins, Larry Crawford of Lexington, Ky., and Rachel Wilkinson and husband, Brian, of Charleston; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Crawford Haynes and Aiden and Jacob Wilkinson; one brother, Harold William Crawford of Parkersburg; and two sisters, Juanita Chevront of Parkersburg, and Evadeen Sellers of Knnewick, Wash.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin, Ted and Woodrow Crawford; and two sisters, Merle Huber and Evalee Lee.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Parkview United Methodist Church with Pastor Warren Dove officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery North. Junior L. Crites
Junior Lee Crites, 86, a resident of 212 Chestnut St., Philippi, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 8, 2002, in the Grafton City Hospital.
He was born May 11, 1916, at Philippi, a son of the late Hiram and Eva Harvey Crites.
He was united in marriage on May 25, 1940, to the former Helen Tinney, who preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Dianne Lee Crites and Eunice Dillon, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Jimmy Lee Crites, Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Terry Jo Crites, Vineland, N.J.; one sister, Maude Bolton, Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers and one grandchild.
Mr. Crites was a retired painter having been employed by Farhill Mental Health Center. He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church and faithfully attended the Tuesday morning worship service at Baughman Towers.

He was born July 3, 1984, at Baltimore, Md., a son of Bernard Douglas Cross and Stephanie Denise Sandridge, both of Elkins.
Also surviving are one brother, Jeffrey D. Cross of Elkins; and one sister, Andrea D. Cross, also of Elkins; his paternal grandparents, Bernard and Louise Cross of Belington, his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Barbara Sandridge of Kerens, his maternal great-grandmother, Reta England of Belington. Several aunts and uncles including, Sandra Sandridge, North Beach, Md., Susan Currence, Mabie, Diane Everson and Susan Evans, both of Belington, Nancy Holbert, Philippi, Stephen Cross, Belington, Randy Cross, Longwood, Fla., Brenda Ryan, Bunker Hill, Judy White, Winchester, Va., and Trudy Reid of Wenham, Mass., also survive.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 2002. He was a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College, majoring in theatre arts and was a member of the Old Brick Playhouse.

Evelyn Cross
Evelyn Cross, 84, of 207 Willey St., Weston, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at her residence.
Miss Cross was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Arden, a daughter of the late Fred L. and Verna Mitchell Cross.
Surviving are two sisters, Audra Murphy, Maple Avenue, Philippi, and Ruth Murphy, Byrer Street, Philippi; a nephew, a niece, a great-niece, a great-nephew and a great-great-nephew.
Miss Cross was a 1938 graduate of Philippi High School and a graduate of West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg. She worked for Barbour County Rationing Board during World War II until its closing. She then worked in the office of the Department of Highways in Weston until her retirement a few years ago. She had been a member of Arden United Methodist Church since her teen years.

She was born July 20, 1954, at Weston, a daughter of the late Harry Moore and Polly Linger Moore.
On April 20, 1974, at Oakland, Md., she was married to James "Brad" Cross II, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Elaine Ann Fincham and husband, Doug, of Mill Creek; one brother, Pat Ashby of St. George; two sisters, Barbara Heckler and husband, Bud, Mackeyville, and Brenda Moore, Hambleton; and three grandchildren.
She attended the schools of Randolph and Tucker counties and had a great love for animals.

Junior M. Cross
Junior Merle "Tub" Cross, 75, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Tuesday evening, Nov. 5, 2002, at his home. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to respiratory failure.
He was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Parsons, the son of the late Elva John Cross and Flora Summerfield Cross.
On May 3, 1952, at Parsons, he was married to the former Eula Mae Bright Cross, who preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2000.
Surviving are three daughters, Susan Elaine Cross of Parsons, Diane Grace Tennant and husband, Mark, of Fairmont, and Shellie Faithe Cross of New York City, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Tamara Lynn Ends and husband, Danny, of Holly Meadows, Christopher J. Watson of Morgantown and Amanda Faye Watson of San Diego, Calif.; and several nieces and one nephew.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Bud Cross; two sisters, Catherine Bailey and Wanda Upton; three half brothers, Everett Cross, Gerald Cross and Roy Ferguson; and three half sisters, Juanita George, Marie Campbell and Midge Swartz.
He attended Parsons High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
He was a mechanic for the former Webb Ford Sales of Parsons and was a mechanic with the R.H. Armstrong Contracting Co. of Parsons for more than 45 years, retiring in 2001.
He was a former Parsons City Councilman and was an expert chair and basket weaver.

Frances J. Croston, 65, a resident of Route 2, Philippi, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at her residence. She was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Frank and Lona (Croston) Miner.
She was united in marriage to Harter Croston, who preceded her in death on May 22, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Bessie "Robin" Croston and Susanne Sikorski, both of Philippi; two sons, Harter Lee Croston and Wendell Scott Croston, both of Philippi; one sister, Helen Croston, Philippi; one brother, Winfield Miner, Philippi; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Roselle Newman, Lillian Dalton and Irene Croston; and three brothers, Hoy Miner, Edwin Miner and Lester Miner.
She was a homemaker.

Robin L. Croston
Robin Leah Workman Croston, 45, of Belington, died at 10:13 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
Ms. Croston was born June 15, 1956, in Philippi, a daughter of Opal J. Glendening Workman Papandrea, who survives in Philippi, and the late John S. Workman.
She was formerly married to Clyde "Bud" Croston, who survives in Mill Creek.
Also surviving are her stepfather, Joseph Papandrea, Philippi; two sisters, Susie Cross, Philippi, and Mrs. Homer (Judy) Williams, Gloucester, Va.; and three brothers, John Workman, Donald Workman and Calvin and wife, Diane Workman, all of Philippi.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerald Cross.
Ms. Croston was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

Wilda Moreland Cullers, 80, of Mount Storm, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the home of her daughter in LaPlata, Md., where she had lived during the past two months.

Douglas Cunningham
Douglas Roy "Doug" Cunningham, 38, a former resident of Randolph County and a resident of 150 Trent Road, Statesville, N.C., passed away at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in the Northern Hospital, Surry County, Va., from injuries sustained in an accident.
Born June 12, 1963, in Elkins, he was the son of Delmas M. and Erma Smith Smarr who survive in Statesville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Veronica Watson and husband, Richard, Dailey; his paternal grandmother, Pearl Smarr, North Carolina; and several aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Woodrow and Mable Smith; his paternal grandfather, Lovell M. Smarr; two sisters, Teresa Mae and Anita Kay Cunningham; and two brothers, Vincent Joe and Edward Lee Cunningham Jr.
Doug attended the schools of Randolph County and the schools of Iredel County, N.C. He was a member of the Lakeview Bowhunters Club and in archery had won several awards. He had many hobbies including golfing, archery, bowling, horseshoes, fishing and gardening. He was a Baptist by faith.
Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. On Monday, Doug will be moved to the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Vickie Cunningham
Vickie Elaine Cunningham, 45, a resident of Alpena, departed this life at 3:53 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital's emergency room. She had been in declining health for the past five months, although death was unexpected.
She was born July 2, 1956, at Elkins, a daughter of Floyd Milton "Mickey" Cunningham, who survives at Alpena, and the late Dorothy Lee Isner Cunningham.
She had never married.
Surviving are three sisters, Brenda Diane Stalnaker and husband, Jim, Point Pleasant, Amelia Louise "Amy" Van Reenan and husband, Harold, Elkins, and Sharon Lee Swecker and husband, Carl, Alpena; one sister-in-law, Adwina Jo "Wendy" Kisner Cunningham, Alpena; three nephews, Brad Swecker, Casey Cunningham and Jason Stalnaker; and one niece, Katie Jo Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Claude and Edith Rouse Cunningham; her maternal grandparents, Clay and Mable Shoemaker Isner; and one brother, Kenneth Milton "Kenny" Cunningham on April 14,1999.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1973 and attended West Virginia University. She was a former employee of the Randolph County Unemployment Office, was the owner and operator of the former Donuts and More Shoppe of Elkins, and at the time of her death, she was director of operations at the Randolph Center in Elkins. She was the executive secretary for Home Builders, and Elkins Electrical and Trushel Construction Co. at the Elkins office. She was past president of the Mountaineer Alliance of Days Inn and also coined the phrase "Check Out West Virginia, Check in Days Inn" which is used widely throughout West Virginia Days Inns.
Friends will be received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 1 p.m. Pastor Terry Burgess will officiate and interment will follow at Alpena Cemetery at Alpena. From 25 May 2002.

Wanda Cunningham
Wanda Elizabeth Gum Cunningham, 82, a resident of Whitmer, passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Elkins, the daughter of the late Ralph Leon and Xanna Elizabeth Curtis Gum.
On May 6, 1939, in Oakland, Md., she was married to Louis Denver Cunningham Sr., who survives at Whitmer.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cunningham, Manassas, Va.; and one son, Louis Denver Cunningham Jr., Whitmer.
Two sisters, Mrs. James R. (Hilda) Wheeler and Mrs. Paul J. (Wilda) Joseph, and one brother, Filcer C. Gum, also survive.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Harry B. Gum and Paul H. Gum.
Mrs. Cunningham was a 1936 graduate of Elkins High School and a 1951 graduate of Davis & Elkins College. She did extensive graduate work at West Virginia University and Marshall University.
She served as second vice president and committee chairwoman of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of educators.
She served as president of the Randolph County Classroom Teachers Association from 1971 until 1973 and was a member of the Randolph County Education Association, West Virginia Education Association, National Educational Association and a member of both the Randolph County and West Virginia Associations of Retired School Personnel.
Mrs. Cunningham was a teacher and elementary school principal in the schools of Randolph County for 41 1/2 years. She taught eight years in one-room schools, was principal of the Whitmer and Coalton elementary schools, was a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Central and Midland elementary schools and for four years taught primary grades at Whitmer prior to her retirement in 1982.
She was a former member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School teacher before moving to Whitmer. She supported the Whitmer United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Bible and the Rev. Joseph Mininger officiating. Interment will follow in the Cunningham Family Cemetery near Whitmer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Whitmer United Methodist Church Building Fund, Whitmer, W.Va., 26296, in memory of Mrs. Cunningham. Anna B. Currence
Anna B. Currence, 62, a resident of Elkins, departed this life at 11:43 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after being admitted earlier in the day. She had been in her usual health but death was sudden and unexpected.

Anna B. Currence, 62, a resident of Elkins, departed this life on Saturday, July 20, 2002, at 11:43 p.m. in Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she was admitted earlier in the day. She had been in her usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.
She was born Sept. 1, 1939, at Mabie, a daughter of the late Rufus and Rebecca Jane Shreve Watson.
She was twice married, first to Mason Scott, who survives on the Adolph Road. On June 27, 1971, she was united in marriage to Marlie Marvin Currence, who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1979.
She is survived by a special friend of 12 years, Willie Howell of Elkins; four daughters, Deena Bender, Mrs. Paul (Judy) Himes, Lesa Scott and Mrs. Shannon (Marlene) Lloyd, all of Elkins; five sons, Mason "Buck" Scott and wife, Donna, and Danny Scott, both of Valley Bend, Curtis Scott and wife, Paula, of Norton, Marlie "Doopy" Currence and fiance, Angie, of Elkins, and Dana Scott and wife, Stephanie, of the Chenoweth Creek community; four stepchildren, Julian Currence of N.C., Charlie Currence and Mrs. Rex (Phyllis) Weese, both of Elkins, and Mary Lou Currence of Mill Creek; five sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Edith) Ratliff of Sinks Grove, Mrs. Ronald (Ruby) George, Mrs. Gene (Thelma) Rowan, Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Moore and Mrs. Neal (Edna) Shockey, all of Mabie; and one brother, Thomas R. Watson and wife, Wanda, of Southington, Ohio; 25 grandchildren, Christina, Nevin, Morgan, Cassie, CJ, Amanda, PJ, Shawn, Roxy, Debbie, Danny, Ashley, Natasha, Chelsea, Chad, Scotty, Bryant, Lee, Willie, Crystal, Julie, Julian, Chelsea, Ashley and Abby; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were an infant sister, Rebecca Grace; four brothers, Howard D., Willard, Clifford and John Watson; and a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Brooke Arbogast.
She was a caretaker for elderly people in the Elkins area for several years. She was a self- taught guitar player and loving gospel music she played in churches, at Nella’s and at Picking in the Park. She attended the Full Bible Church.
Friends will be received at F.E. Runner Funeral Home Wednesday after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner chapel on Thursday at 1 p.m. Pastor Charles Leonard Taylor and Pastor Delmas Johnson of the Full Bible Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Fincham Chapel Cemetery near Adolph. From 23 and 24 July 2002.

Ralph M. Currence
Ralph Max Currence, 65, a resident of the Harding community, and a former resident of Crystal Springs, passed away at 4:16 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 15, 1937, in Weston, a son of the late Ralph and Virgie Vawter Currence.
On March 4, 1960, at Elkins, he was married to Amenthia May Triplett Currence, who survives in Harding.
Also surviving are two sons, Gregory M. Currence and wife, Loretta L. Currence of Beverly, and Ralph W. Currence and wife, Tracy M. Currence of Elkins; and two grandchildren, Zachary William and Taylor Ann Currence.
Mr. Currence was employed by the maintenance department of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Tygart Valley Muzzleloaders and a member of the Crystal Springs Community Church.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery. Wilhelmina Currence
Wilhelmina Hill Currence of Buckhannon died at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born to Everett M. Hill and Ethel Day Hill on Oct. 10, 1926, in Wilmington, Del.
She married Howard W. Currence of Hemlock on June 25, 1945, in Ozark, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, her husband and one son, Everett Austin Currence.
She is survived by sons Howard William II and wife, Carol, of Wilsontown, Arthur Lee and wife, Pat, of Buckhannon, and Thomas Richard of French Creek; six grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
She was a fulltime mother and housewife, serving the community of Arlington and Wilsontown as a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, the Upshur County Democratic Committee, and community groups. She raised four sons through the best and hardest of times to value education and service as she did.
A memorial service is planned for Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Arlington with interment at the church cemetery. Plans are incomplete at this time. The family requests no flowers. Friends and family may remember our mother by donations to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, the church or charity of your choice in her name. From 21 Sep 2002.

Imagene Curtis
Imagene Curtis, 64, of Route 2, French Creek, the Alton Road, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born May 22, 1938, at Gould, a daughter of the late Coleman Y. and Rosa N. Tenney Ware.
Surviving are two daughters, Crystal Russell and Leon Smith, both of Route 2, French Creek; five grandchildren, three sisters, Mavis Small of Kesling Mill, Rosa Lee Ware of Buckhannon, and Norma Jean Fultineer of Parkersburg; and three brothers, Mason Ware, Joe Ware and Frank Ware, all of French Creek.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
She was a homemaker and attended the Mission Independent Church of Walkersville.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. From 23 Sep 2002.

Wilma Cutlip
Wilma "Dottie" Cutlip, 71, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, in Holbrook Nursing Home.
Mrs. Cutlip was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Issaac N. and Emily E. Belle Arthur.
She married Floyd Cutlip, who preceded her in death in 1990.
Surviving are five children, Leroy Cutlip and Priscilla Hathaway, Grafton; Sue Cutright and husband, Jake, South Carolina, Donna Bowers and husband, David, Clarksburg, Connie Rastle and husband, David, Weston, and Tina Shannon and husband, Bill, Buckhannon; eight grandchildren, Wayne Saville II, Stephanie Rastle Simpson, Jennifer Rastle Bidwell, Lorna Sayres Anderson, Jeremy Sayres, Mark Shannon, Matthew Shannon and Kevin Shannon; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Cutlip; four brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Cutlip was a cook and waiter. She was a member of Lake Side Baptist Church in Painesville, Ohio.

Kenneth O. Cutright
Pastor Kenneth O. Cutright, 78, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, July 23, 2002.
He was born in Rachel, and was an Akron resident most of his life, where he was the pastor of True Gospel Union Mission for 36 years, and was district superintendent of Union Mission Conference in Buckhannon for 22 years. He retired from Akron Trailer Manufacturing in 1986 with 28 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Genevieve; one daughter, Sue Ann and husband, Butch Swisher; one son, Vincent; three grandchildren, Naomi and Kyle Cutright and Travis Swisher; one brother, Hobart and wife, Jean; and many friends.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, Ohio. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Uniontown Chapel of Faith on Church Street with Pastor Jack Coontz, the Rev. Jerry Justice and the Rev. Edsel Swisher officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. From 25 July 2002.

Mary P. Cutright
Mary P. "Patty" Cutright, 63, of 1925 Parker Lane, Rockingham, N.C., died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her home in Rockingham, N.C.
Mrs. Cutright was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Buckhannon, a daughter of Rose Bennett Moran, who survives in Buckhannon, and the late Robert L. Moran Sr.
On March 10, 1972, she married Cyrus Cutright, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, DeAnna Reese, Roanoke, Va., and Tamela Fleming, Winchester, Va.; three sons, Ronald Reese and Robert Reese, both of Roanoke, Va., and David Reese, Winchester, Va.; six sisters, Carol Beck, Rockingham, N.C., Barbara Bushey, Mission Veijo, Calif., Dianna Sue Dean and Katie Ware, both of Buckhannon, Christine Livinggood, Oakland, Md., and Jeanie Haggenbotham, Charleston; two brothers, Tommy Moran, Buckhannon, and Bill Moran, Romney; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Moran Jr.
Mrs. Cutright was a nursing home supervisor at Glenwood Rest Home.
Friends were received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel today at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Poling officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Herman Church Cemetery. From 1 Apr 2002

Vera Bell Cutright
Vera Bell Cutright, 85, a resident of Route 1, French Creek, passed away at her home Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at 7 a.m.
She was born July 11, 1917, in Upshur County, the daughter of the late Charles Wesley and Della May Depoy.
On Nov. 10, 1939, she was married to Lorence Arden Cutright, who preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1997.
She is survived by four sons, John Cutright, Kirk Cutright and Delmer Cutright, all of French Creek, and Virgil Cutright, Painesville, Ohio; three daughters, Audamaree Morgan, Gloria Kittle and Monna Lewis, all of French Creek; five brothers, Charles Depoy, Walter Depoy and Ralph Depoy, all of Alton, William Depoy, Virginia, and Wesley Depoy, Alexander; one sister, Mary Russell, Illinois; 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, two half sisters and two grandchildren.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a senior companion and she was one in a million.
Friends will be received at the Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home in French Creek from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. She will be moved to the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Wednesday for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. David Jessie will officiate and interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery. From 3 Sep 2002.

William W. Cutright
William Wren Cutright, 76, of Surfside Beach, S.C., died on Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, in Conway, S.C.
He was born on May 18, 1925, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Stewart and Viola Wilfong Cutright.
Surviving are his second wife, Shirley Cutright of Surfside Beach, S.C.; two sons, Kenneth Cutright of Ohio and Ron Cutright of West Virginia; one brother, Ralph Cutright of West Virginia; one sister, Wanda Ritter of Maryland; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Charlotte Cutright and one son, Mike Cutright.
He was a Methodist by faith, was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Parkersburg and was an U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, S.C., was in charge of the arrangements.
