Ernest R. Black
Ernest R. Black, 99, a resident of the Tennerton community near Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
He was born Sept. 11, 1903, in Upshur County, the son of the late Granville Dexter and Hester Florence Tenney Black.
On April 16, 1933, he was married to Nora E. Veith Black, who preceded him in death on June 28, 2002.
Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie B. Cartier, Queens; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Mr. Black was a member of the Sago Baptist Church and was a lumber grader and carpenter.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Wease Day will officiate and interment will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park. From 31 Oct 2002.

Merideth R. Black
Merideth Ray Black, 78, of HC 36, Box 220, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at 8:30 a.m., at his home in Buckhannon.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Trubie Run, a son of the late Rev. Elmon Black and Stella Miller Black.
On Feb. 27, 1943, he married Daisy Lea Anglin Black, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Robert W. Black and wife, Eula Faye, French Creek, Ricky R. Black and wife, Melba, and David M. Black and wife, Lori Black, all of Buckhannon; two daughters, Karen S. Byrd and husband, Dean, and Joyce F. Powers and husband, Benton, all of Buckhannon; one sister, Betty Lee Bailey, French Creek; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Lucille Black; and twin grandsons, Eric and Derick Perry.
He was a coal miner for Upshur Coals. He was an ordained minister for New Antioch Pentecostal Church Inc. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a Pentecostal by faith.
Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville.   From 26 Dec 2002.

Nora E. Black
Nora E. Black, 99, of Buckhannon, the Tennerton community, died Friday, June 28, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mrs. Black was born May 23, 1903, in Falls Mills, Braxton County, a daughter of the late Frantz and Luverna Cobb Veith.
On April 16, 1933, she married Ernest R. Black of the Tennerton community.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Bonnie B. Cartier of Queens; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Ruth Martin and Emma Tenney, both of Buckhannon, and Naomi Harlow, Adrian.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Mrs. Black was a homemaker and a member of the Sago Baptist Church.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Weese Day officiating. Interment will follow in Upshur County Memorial Park. From 29 June 2002.

Mildred F. Blagg
Mildred Faye Blagg, 61, who made her home with her daughter, Judy Posey of Buckhannon, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 24, 1941, at Ten Mile, a daughter of the late Henry and Francis Koon Reed.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail and Tom Stump of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Judy and Mike Posey of Buckhannon; three sons, Ed and Terry Blagg of Buckhannon, Greg and Jo Blagg of Applecreek, Ohio, and James and Susan Blagg of Killbuck, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven brothers, Harold Reed, Charles Reed, Bob Reed, Bill Reed, Jerry Reed, Donald Reed and Tom Reed, all of Buckhannon; one sister, Jean Ward of Tarrs, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Reed, Larry Reed and Junior Reed.
She was a food service manager and cook. She was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mrs. Blagg will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church Thursday with services to start at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dennis Ralph Bland, 50, of Riverton, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at his residence.

Edna Louise Elizabeth Bodkins, 75, a resident of Heavner Avenue, "Bethany Lane" Elkins, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 12, 1927, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Ora Clarence and Annie Harris Livingston Weese.
On May 9, 1948, in Wheeling, she married Roosevelt William Nelson, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 22, 1970, she married Herbert Jackson "Hub" Bodkins, who preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1976.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Jean Teter Wujcik of Morgantown; one son, Eston William "Bill" Nelson of Ellamore; 12 grandchildren, Matthew and Adam James Shifflett, Rebekah Marie Shifflett, Trooper Andrew Teter, Amber Elizabeth Nelson, Wendi Lee Nelson Sampson, Eston William Nelson II, Patrick Bodkin and Heather Harris, Megan Goins, Nicole and Erica Wujcik; and 10 great-grandchildren, Diana Marie Shifflett, Bradley Pete Sampson, Salem Shifflett, Jordan Shifflett, Trinity Jordan Gray, Trey Bodkin and Athena Bodkin, Paige, Alexa and Quinten Goins.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one daughter, Diana Marie Nelson Shifflett; two brothers, Noah Herbert and Ora Neil Weese; one sister, Della Virginia Armstrong; three half brothers, Herman Guy Weese, Edgar V. and Paul Lester Livingston; three half sisters, Bessie Ellen Henry, Mrs. Joseph (Laura Ester) Icenhower and Mrs. Ray (Helen M.) Yeager.
Mrs. Bodkins was a 1946 graduate of Elkins High School and attended the Davis Memorial Practical Nursing Program. She worked for the G.C. Murphy Company, the first Clarksburg Cancer Care Corp., and was a former member of Community Action. She was an active member of the Randolph County Senior Center and the Melody Chorus and attended the Elkins Church of God and Family Worship Center.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Sebert J. Bodkins
Sebert J. Bodkins, 85, a resident of Valley Head, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 9, 2002, in Nella’s Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was born May 6, 1917, at Flint, the son of the late James Edward and Attie White Bodkins.
He had never married.
He is survived by three brothers, Wilmoth Bodkins and Ronald Joe Bodkins, both of Valley Head, and Harold Bodkins, Beaufort, S.C.; five sisters, Margaret Lantz, Buckhannon, Hallie Fedowich, Long Island, N.Y., Carrie Thompson, New Port Richey, Fla., Mary Smith, Duncan, S.C., and Sharon Bodkins, Benedict, Md.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Eugene and an infant brother; and three sisters, Edith, Opal and Virginia.
Mr. Bodkins was employed as a night watchman for Bethlehem Steel’s Hickory Lick Mines at Monterville for several years.
He attended the Friendship Baptist Church.

 Garnett E. Boggs
Garnett E. Boggs, 91, of Ireland, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Crest View Manor in Jane Lew.
Mrs. Boggs was born Jan. 19, 1911, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Roy and Delia Hamner Cooper.
She married Walter Guy Boggs, who preceded her in death in August of 1966.
Surviving are two sons, Keith and daughter in-law, Shirley Boggs, of Walkersville, and Kenneth Boggs of Jane Lew; four daughters, Irene and son-in-law, Frances Fisher, of Weston, Helen and son-in-law, Charles Pickens, of Ireland, Audra and son-in-law, Tab Farrar, of Buckhannon, and Pearl Singleton of Ireland; 21 grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Reta Ware of Ireland; and one daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bogs.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, two brothers, two sons, Clarence J. Boggs and Walter Guy Boggs Jr.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was a housewife and a member of Elijah Chapel Church of Bablin.

Mary Evelyn Boggs, 74, of Seneca Rocks, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at her residence.
She was born April 13, 1927, in Seneca Rocks, a daughter of the late Andrew J. Champ and Ethel Alt Champ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene W. Boggs on March 8, 1979.
She was also preceded in death by an infant grandson, Tracey Yokum; three sisters, Dora Cooper Mauzy, Verdie Hedrick and Joy Basinger; and four brothers, infant Paul Champ, Derrill Champ, Bryson Champ and John Champ.
Mrs. Boggs was a member and trustee of Pleasant View United Methodist Church and a member of the Gideon International Auxiliary. She was a former member of Pendleton Board of Education. She was an honorary member of Circleville FHA and a member of the Extension Homemakers Club, Seneca Rocks. She was also a former 4-H Club leader.
Surviving are one son, Donald Boggs of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three daughters, Cynthia Yokum, Pamela Boggs and Beverly Boggs, all of Seneca Rocks; three sisters, Thelma Rohrbaugh of Petersburg, Rose Virginia Vance, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, and Ruby Dolly of Medley; five brothers, Earl Champ of Cabins, Quentin Champ of Purgitsville, Darrell Champ, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Andrew Harlan Champ of Baltimore, Md., and Dayton Champ of Lahmansville; three grandsons, Roderick Boggs of Tampa, Fla., Kevin Yokum of Buckhannon, and Derek Boggs of Boston, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Boggs of Tampa, Fla., and Noah Yokum of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna M. Bohon
Edna Marie Summerfield Bohon, 84, a resident of Parsons, and a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, departed this life Saturday morning, April 20, 2002, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to a stroke.
She was born Jan. 31, 1918, at Leadmine, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Summerfield and Jemima C. Likens Summerfield Poling.
On June 30, 1934, she was married to James Junior "June" Bohon, who preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1987.
Surviving are three daughters, Wilda Marie McBee and husband, Richard, Morgantown, Vonda Wyoma Phillips and husband, Truman, Parsons, and Thelma Doloris Myers and husband, Junior, Masontown; 12 grandchildren, Rick McBee, Anna McBee Bonner, Anita McBee Daugherty, Robert McBee, David Phillips, Danny Phillips, Deral Phillips, Robert Credal, Susan Credal Terwiliger, Laura Credal Bolyard, Gary Myers and Stephanie Myers Coste; 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by one son, Willard Odis Bohon; one daughter, Lydia Louise Credal; two brothers, Gorman Summerfield and Raymond Summerfield; three sisters, Goldie Summerfield, Gertrude Biller and Hulda Whitehair; and two grandchildren, Paula Kay McBee and Gloria Dawn Credal.
She attended the one-room school at Leadmine. She was a homemaker and was a Protestant by faith.

Oran Mansfield Bolner, 78, a resident of Timberville, Va., and a former resident of 212 Chestnut St., Philippi, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2002, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.
He was born May 5, 1924, at Moatsville, a son of the late Floyd Henry and Hallie (Newman) Bolner.
He was thrice married, first to the former Argel R. Morris, second to Helen Summers and third to Louise A. Elliott, who survives.
Also surviving are five brothers, Patricia "Patty" Casto, Philippi, Pamela Poling, Grafton, Robin Snider and Sandra Mauro, both of Clarksburg, and Nicole Walker, Timberville, Va.; three stepdaughters, Mary Louise Moore, Clarksburg, Sandra Gue, Barboursville, and Kathy Petty, Hopewell, Va.; two sons, Carl Bolner, Greenville, S.C., and Wendell Bolner, Huttonsville; two stepsons, Billy Westfall, Salem, and Edward Elliott, Timberville, Va.; three sisters, Louvenda Edmond, Liverpool, Ohio, Maxine Jackson, Webster, and Opal Robinson, Moatsville; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Forest Carl Bolner; one son, Oran Rex Bolner; one stepson, Bobby Watson; and one grandson, Greg Bolner.
Mr. Bolner was a retired truck driver. He was a Protestant by faith.
In honor of Mr. Bolners request he was cremated. Cremains will be interned at the Pleasant Creek Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. From 10 Dec 2002.

D. Flossie Bolyard
D. Flossie Bolyard, 89, of Route 2, Belington, died Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following a three-week illness.
She was born June 7, 1912, at Webster, Taylor County, a daughter of the late Lewis Berlin and Susannah Penelope "Nettie" Cox Shaffer.
On Oct. 1, 1932, she was married to Delbert Bolyard, who preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1978.
Surviving are one daughter, Karen Sue Conner and husband, Howard, with whom she made her home; one son, Roger Lee Bolyard and wife, June, Buckhannon Pike, Elkins; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Bolyard, Belington; seven grandchildren, Michael and Amy Conner, Shelbyville, Tenn., Chad, Joe and Kevin Bolyard, Belington, Sherry Bolyard, Elkins, and Shelly Gutta, Morgantown; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four sons, Delbert Bolyard Jr., Joseph Paul Bolyard, Gary Lynn Bolyard and Everett Louis "Lou" Bolyard; one sister, Della Crouse; and two brothers, George Shaffer and Homer Shaffer.
Mrs. Bolyard was a homemaker and former housekeeper. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church at Belington and was a former member of the Belington Center of the Barbour County Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting and crafting.
Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday, when funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rick Cutright of the Buckhannon Seventh Day Adventists Church officiating. Ernest F. Bonner Jr.
Ernest Franklin Bonner Jr., 76, of Dry Fork, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2002, in Veterans Medical Center in Martinsburg. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to a heart attack.
Mr. Bonner was born March 29, 1925, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Ernest Franklin Bonner and Grace Carr Bonner.
On June 18, 1947, in Oakland, Md., he married the former Edith Lucille Bright, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gary Ernest Bonner and Susan, Martinsburg; a daughter, Jean Ann Hedrick and husband, Jack, Dry Fork; three brothers, Eston Bonner, Baltimore, Md., Jim Bonner, Virginia, and William Carr, Dry Fork; two sisters, Louise Poling, Pennsylvania, and Wilda Cross and husband, Edward, Kerens; three grandsons, Scott Hedrick, Dry Fork, Justin Bonner and Joshua Bonner, both of Martinsburg; and two granddaughters, Amy Hedrick, Dry Fork, and Brittany Bonner, Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nada Riley and Evelyn Barnas.
Mr. Bonner attended the one- room school at Mill Run and Parsons High School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for West Virginia Division of Highways as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1986. He was also a heavy equipment operator developing area golf courses and was a farmer. He attended Bright’s Chapel Church in Dry Fork. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Stanley W. Bonner
Stanley William Bonner, 80, a resident of Dry Fork, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Oct. 8, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
He was born May 1, 1922, at Mill Run, Hendricks, a son of the late Ira Lakin Bonner and Lena Carr Bonner.
On March 30, 1946, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Nettie Marguarite Cole, who preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1990.
Surviving are three sons, Garry Eugene Bonner and wife, Jeanne, Parsons, David Cleon Bonner and wife, Cathy, Hendricks, Douglas William Bonner and wife, Linda, Parsons; one daughter, Sandra Kay Lambert and husband, James R., Hendricks; five brothers, Don Bonner and wife, Louise, Parsons, Roscoe Bonner and wife Mary, Canton, Ohio, Paul Bonner and wife, Betty, Parsons, Coy Bonner and wife, Pat and Gerald Bonner and wife, Ellen, all of Hendricks; one sister, Naomi Bonner Sinclair and husband, Blaine, Parsons; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Bonner and Forrest Bonner.
He attended the school of Mill Run. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an employee of the Penn Line Service of Scottsdale, Pa., where he retired. He was a member of the West Virginia Farm Bureau. He was a farmer and attended the First Baptist Church of Parsons.

Daniel Nelson Booth, 46, of Island Avenue, Buckhannon was pronounced dead at approximately noon Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Stonewall Jackson Regional Hospital in Weston.
Mr. Booth was manager and part owner of the Buckhannon Dairy Queen. He was a lifelong Buckhannon resident, born Dec. 4, 1955, and baptized into the Hampton Methodist Church on Aug. 18, 1974.
He was a graduate of the Buckhannon-Upshur High School and attended Fairmont State College, where he was on the dean’s list and belonged to the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
For 19 years, Mr. Booth was married to the former Emily Kay Malcolm. He was preceded in death by his father, Ford Booth, who died Feb. 23, 1994.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Booth of Buckhannon; his mother, Betty Goss Booth of Buckhannon; two sisters, Linda Booth Cornett, Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary Ann Booth Spears of Greensboro, N.C.; two nieces, Vanessa Cornett-Murtada, Mebane, N.C., and Amy Layne Tilson of Morgantown; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Graveside services for the family will be on Sunday at the Heavner Cemetery, with personal friend, the Rev. Billy Scott Mick, presiding. From 26 Aug 2002.

Deverre Katherine Booth, 90, of Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in the nursing home.
She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Audra, a daughter of the late Michael T. and Ina A. Diamond Fallen.
She was twice married. First, she married Harvey Campbell, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Archie Booth, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Garnet Kovach, Pennsylvania, Norma DeValliere, Las Vegas, Nev., and Edith Blickenstaff, Grafton; one stepson, Robert Booth, Wheeling; and one sister, Loretta McDaniel, Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Fallen; two sisters, Mary Fallen and Orpha Fallen; and one brother, Clifford T. Fallen.
She was a homemaker and caregiver. She attended Hall Baptist Church.

Regina Booth, 87, a resident of Roanoke, Va., and a former resident of Clarksburg, passed away at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 17, 1915, at Weston, a daughter of the late Samuel F. and Elva Gertrude Radcliff Daugherty.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 25, 1936, to H. Myles Booth, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Lynn and husband, Michael Felton, Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Bonnie Hanson, Texas, and Dorothy Wells, Mesquite, Texas; two grandchildren, Michael Edward Felton and Kerri Middleton; one great-grandchild, Ryan Middleton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Daugherty; and one sister, Helen Miller.
She was formerly employed at O.J. Morrison Store in Clarksburg. She was past Worthy Matron of Order Eastern Star No. 11 of Clarksburg. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg. After moving to Roanoke she attended the Bonsack Baptist Church.

Alma Lee Bosley, 78, of Route 2, French Creek, the Indian Camp community, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Leewood, a daughter of Hazel Johnson McDaniel Howard, who survives at Ferndale, Mich., and the late Everette McDaniel.
She was married to Willis Edward Bosley, whom she married Aug. 17, 1944, and who survives.

Forest H. Bowers, 86, of Norton and Ft. Meade, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Ft. Meade, Fla.
Mr. Bowers was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Ira Joseph and Lillian Hoover Bowers.
He married Virginia Powers Bowers, who survives in Florida.
Also surviving are two sons, David Bowers and wife, Jane, Norton, and Philip Bowers and wife, Arlene, Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Jane) Pingley, Norton, and Mrs. Jack (Joy) Rossi, Charleston; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sawyer and Wilson Bowers; and two sisters, Hattie and Helen Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a coal operator having owned and operated Bowers Coal Co. for 40 years. He was a member of First Christian Church of Elkins and was an ordained elder and deacon of the church. He was an associate member of Lake Buffum Baptist Church and was an adult Sunday School teacher.

Martin Luther "Marty" Bowman Jr., 77, of Route 2, Belington, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, following a brief illness at his home.
Mr. Bowman was born June 19, 1924, in North Plainfield, N.J., a son of the late Martin Luther and Margaret Gardener Bowman.
He married the former Margaret Molnar, who preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 1981.
Surviving are three daughters, Claudia Wheat, Parsons, Tenn, Phyllis Wills and husband, Rodney, Tabernacle, N.J., and Irene Jones, Williamstown, N.J.; two sons, Bruce Bowman and wife, Stephanie, Oak Harbor, Wash., and Mark Bowman and wife, Debbie, Browns Mills, N.J.; a sister, Evelyn Sullivan, Spring Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his companion of 18 years, Betty Ferguson, Belington.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Bowman and Bob Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a retired carpenter in heavy construction.

Nicholaus C. Boyer, 19, of 211 N. Walnut St., Philippi, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 10, 2002, at his residence.
He was born July 14, 1983, in Frankfort, Germany, a son of Robert L. and Mary P. (Richter) Boyer of Route 3, (Mansfield Addition) Philippi.
Also surviving are one sister, Heather Chiarenza, Ashtabula, Ohio.
He was a telemarketer for Mountaineer Telemarketing in Philippi. He was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church.

Lester A. Boylen Jr., 46, a resident of Lorentz, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born April 10, 1956, in Baltimore, Md., the son of the Rev. Lester D. and Nancy E. McAfee Boylen of Lorentz, who survive.
On Nov. 14, 1976, he married Kathy T. Nutter Boylen, who survives.

Sylvia Ethel Boyles, 90, of Route 2, Philippi, and a patient of Broaddus Hospital Long Term Care Facility for the past three years, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital, following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 23, 1911, at Moatsville, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Levi B. and Lovisa Columbia Murphy McVicker.
On Nov. 4, 1933, she was married to Ernest A. Boyles, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1972.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Joan and Tommy Marsh; one grandson, Thomas Patrick Marsh; and one great-granddaughter, Lindsey Jo Marsh, all of Philippi.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Olive Digman; and one brother, Joy M. McVicker.
Mrs. Boyles was a homemaker and a Methodist. She was a member and past Noble Grand of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge No. 275 at Philippi.

Kenneth C. Bradley, 46, of Falling Waters, died Monday, April 29, 2002.
He was born Feb. 15, 1956, in Columbia, Pa., a son of Carol J. McMahon Shank of Hagerstown, Md., and the late Kenneth H. Bradley.
He was a graduate of West Virginia University BSCE 1979, Magna Cum Laude. A WVU alumni he was a registered civil engineer in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
He was a member of Coraopolis United Methodist Church, Coraopolis, Pa., and attended Harmony United Methodist Church in Falling Waters.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Michael C. Shank of South Charleston; two sisters, Sherry L. Brown of Haggerstown, Md., and Kimberly Hawbaker of Falling Waters; stepmother, Betty Bradley; two nephews, Ian Shank and Juston Lambert; and a close and dear friend, Joyce Boehl.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl T. Shank.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church with Dr. Ray Roberson officiating. Interment will be private. Edna E. Bright
Edna Elizabeth "Betty" Bright, 75, a resident of Mill Run, Hendricks, departed this life Saturday evening, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for several years and death was attributed to cancer.
She was born Feb. 21, 1927, at Grafton, a daughter of the late Robert Jackson Jones and Edna Hilberry Jones.
On Feb. 18, 1946, she was married to Glen Ruford Bright, who preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Hugh C. Bright and Bonnie, Mill Run, and Dwight D. Bright and Carolyn, Hendricks; one brother, Richard Jones and Barbara; and one sister, Iola Morgan, all of Grafton; and three grandchildren, Harold Bright and Nancy Hedrick, both of Belington, and Ruford Bright of Philippi.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Glenn Edward Bright and Terry Lynn Bright; one brother, Howard Jones; and one sister, Harriet Carr.
She attended the schools of Grafton and was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and noted cook.

Elaine Gibson Bright, 73, a resident of 308 Bradshaw St. in Belington, departed this life at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health for quite some time.
She was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Charley and Lillie George Gibson.
On Sept. 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Darl Bright, who survives at her home in Belington.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two brothers, Donald Gibson, Proctor, and Charles Gibson, Belington; five sisters, Lucille Kitchen, Martinsville, Ind., Angelena Williams, Akron, Ohio, Janet Simmons, Cape Coral, Fla., Irene Coontz and Carol Daughtery, both of Belington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Lucille Bright.
Mrs. Bright was a graduate of Belington High School. She was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
Graveside services will be conducted from the Concord Cemetery at Belington at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Arden Beck officiating. Interment will follow. Carrie L. Brittain
Carrie Lanier Brittain, 100, of Asheboro, N.C., went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002. She was a native of Randolph County.
She was the daughter of Virginia Lanier and John Trueblood Brittain.
After teaching in North Carolina schools, she was a librarian at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, and retired in 1970 as librarian at Davidson College in Davidson, N.C.
Miss Brittain is survived by several nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was formerly married three times. First, during 1945, to Jonas Arthur Harman. Second, during 1967, to Lenza "Bud" Winfield Harman. Third, during 1970, to Larry Brock.
Surviving are one son, Donald Asa Harman, St. Clairsville, Ohio; three daughters, Ruth Ayers, Elkins, Nancy Sparks and fiance, Herbert Cordelle, Youngstown, Ohio, and Patricia Teter, Elkins; one stepsister, Geraldine Stine, Niles, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert G. Garrison, one stepsister, Dorothy Moff, and two grandchildren.

Charles G. Brock, 82, a resident of 123 Main St., Parsons, departed this life early Thursday, July 4, 2002, at Morgan Manor Nursing Home at Morgantown. He had been in declining health since 1994 and death was attributed to Parkinson’s Disease.

Mr. Brock attended the schools of Hillsboro, attended Tygarts Valley High School and attended Davis & Elkins College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and retired from the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources as a wildlife manager. He had attended Worldwide Church of God.

Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Adrian, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Dove Miller.
She was twice married. First, she married Randall Osburn, who preceded her in death. Second, she married Joe C. Brown, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, James Osburn, Buckhannon; two daughters, Jo Ann King and husband, Mike, Waldorf, Md., and Jean Goff and husband, Lou, Ellamore; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a sister, Coleen Tenney, Buckhannon.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alverta Lamb.

He was born Jan. 5, 1935, at Adolph, the son of Harold Brown of Mill Creek and the late Hallie Fincham Brown.
He is survived by three sons, Gregory Brown, Petersburg, Randall Brown, Newport News, Va., and Timothy Brown, Corpus Christi, Texas; three daughters, Jennifer Schott, Pennsylvania, Cheryl Harris, Norton and Cynthia Davis, Belington; three brothers, Douglas Brown and Dennis Brown, both of Silver Springs, Md., and Benjamin Brown, Relay, Md.; three sisters, Olive Bradshaw, Hampton, Va., Jean Harris, Buckhannon, and Pat Jenkins, Frederick, Md.; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Leonard.
Mr. Brown was employed as a truck driver hauling coal for many years prior to his retirement.

James C. "Jimmie" Brown, 64, of Route 1, Beverly, the East Dailey community, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Route 33, east of Seneca Rocks.
Mr. Brown was born May 25, 1937, in Riverton, a son of the late James C. Brown Sr. and Minnie Warner Brown.
On April 10, 1964, in Starke, Fla., he married the former Sandra S. Sheets, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dustin A. Brown, East Dailey; two daughters, Rhonda S. Norman, MacClenny, Fla., and Ginger L. Mitchell, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Bond Dove, Riverton; and three grandchildren, Daniel C. O’Brien and Loni J. Norman, both of MacClenny, Fla., and Amanda Mitchell, Jacksonville, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jennings Bryant "Tom" Brown.
Mr. Brown attended the schools of Pendleton County. He was a graduate of Circleville High School and a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in forestry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a union truck driver, having worked in Jacksonville, Fla., and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Private graveside services will be at Dolly Cemetery on Horse Ridge Road near Riverton with the Rev. Walter H. Blough officiating. Interment will follow. Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Martin L. Brown
Martin L. Brown, 67, of Route 1, Box 305, Flemington, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Charleston Area Medical Center.
Mr. Brown was born July 22, 1934, in Flemington, a son of the late John Brown and Anna Fagler Brown.
On Sept. 13, 1958, he married Roberta Joan Allen Brown, who survives in Flemington.
Also surviving are three daughters, Dr. Virginia Brown Drislane, Pepperel, Mass., Diana L. Brown Odde, Mullica, N.J., and Anna Margaret Brown Cote, Big Rock, Tenn.; a son, David L. Brown, Grafton; a twin sister, Margaret Brown Feaster, Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, Robert M. Brown, Florida, Paul F. Brown, Flemington, and John Brown, Michigan; five grandsons, Oliver and Connor Odde, Alexander and Vincent Cote and Rory Drislane; and a stepgranddaughter, Holliann Cote.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Marteny; and a brother, George Brown.
Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country as an aircraft mechanic. He was retired from Hess Oil Co. in Elkins with 14 years service, working in public relations and sales.
In the early 1900s, his parents left their home in Czechoslovakia, and settled in Flemington, where they established their family business called Flemington Ice and Bottling Works. They operated their business for years at the original site until moving to Route 1, following the Great Depression. All of the children were involved with the family business, including delivering their products by horse-drawn carriages. The name was then changed to Brown’s Beverages. He was the last immediate family member to operate the business. In recent years, their main focus was catering events, such as reunions, wedding parties and ballgames.
He was a member of Yates Lodge No. 163, AF & AM in Flemington.

Pauline Phillips Brown, 80, a resident of 130 Parkwood Drive, Buckhannon, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Holbrook’s Nursing Home,
She was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Adrian, the daughter of the late Charles Samuel and Hattie Dell Thompson Smith.
She was twice married. On Dec. 24, 1941, she was married to Glenn Phillips, who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1985.
On Aug. 25, 1988, she was married to Harold Richard Rowan, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry R. Phillips, Buckhannon, and Roger Glenn Phillips, Buckhannon; one daughter, Shirley A. Smith, Mt. Clare; one stepson, Ronald Rowan, Buckhannon; one stepdaughter, Patty Hoover, French Creek; four sisters, Ethelean Bennett, Buckhannon, Rosalean Humphrey, Philippi, Mabelean Orsburn, Nutter Fort, and Emelean Quick, Buckhannon; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three sisters, Bethelean Stonebraker, Madeline Phillips and Ilene Welch; and one brother, Willard Smith.
Mrs. Rowan was a homemaker and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Group of Sand Run.
Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. On Thursday she will be moved to the Mt. Union United Methodist Church for visitation from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Vicki Shepard will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery. Eva B. Bryan
Eva B. Bryan, 83, of 307 Maple Ave., Philippi, died at 1:55 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in the Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 5, 1918, at Philippi, a daughter of the late Hubert Paul and Margie Baker Robertson.
She married Darl Bryan, who preceded her in death in 1985.
Surviving are one son, the Rev. Daniel Bryan and wife, the Rev. Pamala Shuman, Elkins; two sisters, Roselee Lewis, Philippi, and Twila Cutler, Luray, Va.; one brother, Robert Robertson, York, Pa.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Crane, a grandchild and a brother, Leonard Paul Robertson.
Mrs. Bryan was a secretary and a clerk for the Barbour County Selective Service Draft Board for 25 years and a secretary for the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church for 15 years.
She was a member of the Barbour County Sportsman Club and the Crim Memorial United Methodist Church.

She was married for 64 years to James W. Bryant, who survives in Mims, Fla.

Geneva Kisamore Buchanan, 93, a resident of Parsons, departed this life on Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2002, at the Life Care Center at New Market, Va., following a brief illness. Death was attributed to a stroke.
She was born on Sept. 27, 1909, on Chenoweth Creek Road at Elkins, a daughter of Benjamin Paul Kisamore and Mary Magdalina Thompson Kisamore.
On July 13, 1940, at Winchester, Va., she was married to Charles Thomas Buchanan, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1988.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Paul Buchanan and wife, Alice, of Stephens City, Va.; one daughter, Lois Jean Shaffer and husband, Kenneth, of Baltimore, Md.; one stepdaughter-in-law, Nina B. Buchanan of Parsons; six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jo Plumb; two brothers, Dice Harper Kisamore and Dennis Paul Kisamore; four sisters, Bertha Sizeman, Celia Board, Mildred Reed and Katherine "Babe" Salinero; one great-grandchild, Jo Ellen Buchanan; one stepdaughter, Dorothy B. DePollo; one stepgrandson, Donald David DePollo; and one daughter-in-law, Vancine Nestor Buchanan.
She attended the one-room school at Mt. Zion. She was a member of the Liberty Rebecca Lodge 95 of Parsons and a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church for 55 years.

Isaac N. "Ike" Burch Jr., 64, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 5, 1937, in Elkins, a son of the late Isaac Newton Burch and Frances Iona Currence Burch Kerns.
Mr. Burch was a graduate of Michigan State University. He was a former employee with Georgetown Steel Corp. and Andrews Wire Corp. He was currently self-employed and also employed part-time with Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Georgetown campus. He was a member of Back Woods Quail Club and a member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn L. Burch; one son, Joe W.T. Burch of Socastee, S.C.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Susanne Marie Burch and Amiee Caroline Taylor Burch; one brother, John Paul Burch of Harrisonburg, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, James L. Kerns.

Mr. Burner was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Frank, a son of the late Lester and Della Kincaid Burner.
He married Betty Vance Burner, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Burner was a foreman with Howes Leather Co. and retired after more than 30 years of service. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific.

Audrey Noah Burns, 77, of Norton, died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Burns was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Wymer, a son of the late Joseph Lee and Zerna Mae Carr Burns.
On March 28, 1949, in Elkins, he married the former Unavale Joy Sampson, who preceded him in death on April 8, 1996.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter.
Mr. Burns was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. He also served with the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was a retired steel worker and worked for Youngstown Steel in Ohio. He was a Methodist by faith.

Jean H. Burns
Jean Hickman Burns, 89, of Parsons, died Thursday evening, Jan. 31, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to a stroke.
Mrs. Burns was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Doddridge County, a daughter of the late Stanley Brannon Hickman and Lena Schoonover Hickman.
On May 9, 1936, she married Robert A. Burns, who preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1961.
Surviving are a foster daughter, Sue Ann Ketterman Breedlove and husband, Dale, Uniontown, Ohio; three nieces; a nephew; four great-nephews, five great-nieces and a special sister-in-law, Maude Burns, St. George.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Miller; and a brother-in-law, Lester Miller.
Mrs. Burns was a 1930 graduate of Parsons High School. She attended Davis & Elkins College, Shepherd College and Glenville College. She received her bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State College and her master’s degree from West Virginia University. She was a well-known educator, having taught at Chestnut Ridge, Beckner, Sugarland, Leadmine, Mill Run, Salem Davis High School, Parson Graded School, Hamrick Graded School and Parsons High School, retiring in 1973 with more than 40 years of service. She was a member of Beta Omega Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi, National Education Honorary Fraternity, the National Retired Teachers Association, West Virginia State and County Retired School Employees, Charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Blackwater Chapter since 1934, in which she served as past regent and 30 years as registrar. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Doyle J. Burnside
Doyle Junior Burnside, 65, of Rock Cave, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at 9:10 a.m., at St. Joseph Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born April 18, 1937, at Holly Grove, a son of the late Doyle E. Burnside and Hettie Marie Davidson Burnside.
He is survived by three sons, Edward S. Burnside, Mark W. Burnside and John W. Burnside, all of Rock Cave; two daughters, Sheila K. Shannon of Rock Cave, and Vickie L. Williams of Buckhannon; two brothers, Billy D. Burnside and Donald G. Burnside, both of Rock Cave; one sister, Betty D. Snyder of Rock Cave; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Marie Burnside; and two brothers, Robert R. Burnside and Basil W. Burnside.
Mr. Burnside was employed by Upshur County School system for 27 years as a school bus driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Canaan Community Church.
Friends will be received at Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Salem Ridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Bickel assisted by the Rev. Junior Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Jennie L. Burr
Jennie Louise Stalnaker Burr, 82, of Horner, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Heartland of Clarksburg Nursing Home, at 8:45 a.m.
She was born at Georgetown on April 22, 1920, a daughter of the late Orland Bailey "Doc" and Delilah Ethel Moss Stalnaker.
She was married to Claude W. "Bill" Burr at Elkins on Jan. 4, 1946, who preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1987.
Surviving are one son, John A. Burr of Buckhannon; one daughter, Tamela S. Cross of Sistersville; and four grandchildren, Greg Burr of Eugene, Ore., Douglas Burr of Huntington Beach, Calif., Alex Smith of Charleston, and Jessica Smith of Keyser.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Verona Stalnaker Beach; and one brother, Dana Stalnaker.
Mrs. Burr was a former member of the BPW of Buckhannon and the Horner United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received at Morris Funeral Home in Jane Lew today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Horner Cemetery. From 26 Aug 2002.

Mandaine O. Byrne - Funeral Arrangements -Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, Thursday after 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at which time she will be moved to Philippi Baptist Church, where friends will be received from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Richard Hepler and the Rev. Daryl Doctorman officiating. Chapter 41, OES will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins.
