Affidavit of Edward Burgess From the Revolutionary War Records of CAPT Ralph Stewart (transcribed by Rita O'Brien)

          This day personally appeared Edward Burgess of lawful agee, and who is a person of respectability and a witness that ought to be relyed upon before me the subscriber, a Justice of the peace in and for the affoursaid County of Lawrence and made oath in due form of law that, he is well acquainted with Ralph Stewart who is now a very old man and he sd Burgess saw him sd Stewart in the indian war when he sd Burgess was about twenty years of age and sd Burgess says he is now about 95 years old and he sd Edward Burgess further states that he saw sd Ralph Stewarts commission in his possession in a short time after the war which he believe sd commission purported that sd Stewart was captain in the Revolution of a company of rangers and sd Edward Burgess further states that he has been acquainted with sd Stewart ever since he saw his commission and sd Stewart has generally been called captain Stewart and he believes he took his title from his servitude in the revolutionary war and sd Burgess further states that he saw a wound on sd Stewart which he believes sd Stewart got in the revolutionary war and he further states that sd Stewart has always been called a man of good caracter and well beliked by his neighbours where ever he has lived.

Rice clerk of the court for the county aforsaid do certify that Joseph Davidson whose name is annixed to the foroing certificate is and was at the time of signing the same an acting Justice of the peace duly commissioned and qualified as such and that full faith and credit is due to all his acts as such a will in as out of court.
          Given under my hand and seal of office this 29^th day of November 1833
