Thanks to
all who were so helpful with my first query. This query concerns, Eligah ODELL,
one of the sons of Jeremiah ODELL (1761-1842). Eligah is buried in the
Wilderness next to his father, however, his gravestone is difficult to read. We
can read his year of birth as 1788. His date of death appears to be April 22,
1851 but the last digit of the year is not legible. Does any one know what it
might be?
Also, at the bottom of Eligah ODELL's gravestone we note the following
inscription; "A soldier in the war of 1812. Present at the Indian Massacre
at the river _________, under General ________." We need to fill in the
blanks on this inscription if possible.
Additonally, we need information, especially marriages and children of, John
William ODELL (1809-1888). He was the last child of Jeremiah ODELL (1762-1842)
and is shown to have died in Greebrier County, WV.

My great-grandfather, Robert Lee FOLEY, born 1859-1864 in
Virginia, and died in Nicholas County ~Nov.1911, seems to have
lived and died without very many written records! There is no record of his
burial in Richwood Cemetery, though his daughter,
Ruth Jane FOLEY DOTSON, pointed out the location before she died at the feet of a
child, Cleo TINGLER, in the Oddfellows
section. There is no stone. He married Mary Elizabeth WINE in 1883 and lived
for a while in Braxton County near Rose Hill
Cemetery. Family tradition states that his father was Patrick "Jim"
FOLEY who arrived as a youth from
County Cork, Ireland, and served as a Confederate in the Civil War. We have
found a Patrick in the 8th, 14th, 19th (same one)
Virginia Cavalries, and in the 1st Battalion out of Alleghany Co., VA. He
supposedly died in the war around Petersburg, VA,
but there is no record of his burial in the cemeteries there. Robert's mother,
again, according to tradition, was "Liz" ROADS.
He was reared by John L. and Nancy(PLYMAN)QUICKLE, and appears with them in all
censuses starting with
the one in 1870. We have not found an adoption record of any kind, however, nor
can we locate Liz. Anyone
having any knowledge of these Foleys or possible ROADS, please respond! Thanks.

was my great great grandfather. He married a Lydia SIZEMORE sometime in the
1870s, I believe in Nicholas County. If someone has the Nicholas County Marriage
register I would be most appreciative of information on their marriage,
specifically, the date of their marriage, and names of their parents. Thanks in
advance.

I am searching
for any information on my great-grandfather and Great-grandmother:
William M. BUTLER who Bertha Dell BARKER.
They had 6 children. I only know of my grandfather. His name was:
Roscoe Floyd BUTLER, born September 3, 1907, in Nicholas County, West Virginia;
died February 8, 1988, in Candler, North Carolina.
My grandfather Roscoe BUTLER married:
Orpha May Whytsell on January 29, 1926, in Braxton County, West Virginia.
I have a story that was written about my grandfather at the time of his death. I
will include some of it below. I am hoping someone might have some information
that they might be able to offer me. Thank you very much for your time.
**********************************************************
September 3rd 1907, was not just any day in the lives of Matt and Bertha BUTLER
of Nichols County, West Virginia. It was the day of their first born son. They
named him Roscoe Floyd Butler. As Roscoe grew, he was joined by 4 brothers and 1
sister, making life in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia very complete as
each member contributed to help the family survive. Times were difficult for the
families living in the poverty stricken area of West Virginia, which only helped
Roscoe develop into a responsible father and husband.
Following the eighth grade Roscoe, found his first job -- working at a saw mill
at the age of 12. He was ready to take his place as a responsible citizen and be
of help to his family. While holding down his first job, one day he turned
quickly only to lose his footing and fell off the loading ramp nearly 30 feet to
the solid rock below. One fellow worker saw him fall as if floating through the
air like an angel. He quickly ran to the side of Roscoe, sure he had been
killed, only to find Roscoe getting to his feet with both arms broken. Getting
medical attention to set the arm was in itself a major task. Later that day,
waiting for the train to carry him to the hospital in the next town, a young lady
came to see the boy with the two broken arms. That was the first time Roscoe and
Opal, the youngest of 21 children, met.

the same person as W. E. McQueen of Summersville, who also died in 1907? A death

I am searching
for any information on the HUNDLEY family, specifically Robert
HUNDLEY. He was my mother's father, but never knew her. She was told that he
had died when she was young, but was later told he'd actually died in the 1970's
or 1980's. This was the only child born of him with Margaret SWINDLER HUNDLEY.
I am told that they were both living in the Huntington area or Nicholas/Memphis
Counties, and that Robert's dad and Margaret's dad worked together logging
railroads. I have absolutely NO info on my grandfather. Please help if you can!

I am seeking
info on a man who lived in the 20 Mile Creek area/Belva area around the early
1940's. I don't have a name but he was well known as a notorious drunk and theif
around Belva. He served time in prison shortly after 1940. He was sentenced to
around 15-20 years. There is a story about when his mother or grandmother died.
The family placed old coins on the woman's eyes ( an old custom) and he stole the
coins from the lady. The family filed charges and he was sent to prison. Another
story is that he stole money from his mother and she filed charges. Anyway he was
sent to prison and wasn't released until about the early 1960's. He was about 18-
20 years old when he went to prison. When he was released he went back to his
drunken ways ( and stealing ). He supposedly died in 1962-5 in a housefire up by
Vaughn ( maybe Summersville ), possibly a brother died also in the fire. He
somehow started the fire when he was drinking. His last name possibly started
with " W ". He had blackish, wavy hair and dark brown eyes.
If anyone has any info on him and can give me his name, I would greatly
appreciate it.
