PEYTON FAMILY CEMETERY
Milton, Cabell Co., WV
Latitude: N 38-29.611
Longitude: W 082-05.551
Elevation: 917 feet
Accuracy: 23 feet
The Peyton Cemetery, on John's Creek Road in Milton, has been known by various names. Some of these maybe Wallace Cemetery or Lunsford/Jackson Cemetery. The Wallace Cemetery is actually the next one around the ridge past the Peyton. It is assumed Lunsford/Jackson was given to the cemetery because no one knew the name and those markers were some of the oldest in the cemetery. It has been found in several obituaries of those buried here that the name was Peyton Cemetery. Most of those buried here are members of the Alexander Peyton family, including two of his children who died young. The first burial was William E. Peyton in 1873, followed by George W. Lunsford in 1875, Lenora Peyton & Dr. Jackson in 1879 and another Peyton family member in 1891. (see Fieldstones)
The following list was compiled by actual reading of the tombstones. All the information, excluding annotation, is written on the tombstone. Annotations are included following the entry for the majority of the stones. Abbreviations are used for the following: d/o - dau of; s/o - son of; c/o - child of; w/o - wife of; h/o - husband of and b/o - brother of.

to have died from the measles epidemic in Milton of 1891. Alzada
left a family of four young children. Interview of James O.
Peyton (her brother) by Fred B. Lambert states his sister Mrs.
Bias buried in same cemetery as sister Mrs. Daniels and another
brother and sister who died young. This interview accounts for
the graves of William E. Peyton, Lenora Peyton, Merta Peyton
Daniels and Alzada Peyton Bias, all children of Alexander Peyton.
Alzada could be one of two unmarked graves, this one or possibly
#21.
Note: Arthur Coleman was originally buried in this cemetery and
moved to the Coleman/Wallace Cemetery in Mason Co. before 1983.
This grave was located between Edmonds & Wallace. -Jerod
