CEDARBURG CLEVELAND CLUB
The above club had arranged a meeting last Saturday night at the Turn Hall which was fairly attended. The principal speaker was County Superintendent W.F. SCOTT of this place and, as this was his first effort, we must say that he exceeded our expectations by far. His speech was one directed to the reason and not to the passions of his audience and was a masterly logical effort. A young German from Hamilton, Mr. WITTIG, made a few appropriate remarks in German as a spontaneous outburst of his feelings which were well received. We understand that the next meeting will be held some time early next month or at the end of the present when speakers from abroad will be present and a very large meeting may be expected.

The plaintiff was represented by HEDDING & JACKSON of this city and the defendant by Tom O'MEARA of West Bend. FREDONIA, Sept. 21, 1884

On the 8th inst. quite a trial was had before Justice CIGRAND and jury. Dr. FUCHS sued James HARDIMAN for a debt of $42.75. HARDIMAN in his answer to the complaint, brought in the counter claim of $1000 for damages done to him and his boy by the unskillfulness of the plaintiff.

The plaintiff, by his witnesses, showed that his claim was just; and proved by the expert testimony of Dr. SEAN of Milwaukee, Dr. McGOVERN of Cedarburg and others, that his treatment was good and proper; and that he was in nowise to blame for any bad result.

The defendant tried to get some expert sic testimony from this county, but the expert sic did not materialize, greatly to the chagrin of the plaintiff and his friends, who were longing for some fun. The jury gave a verdict for the plaintiff; and on last Friday Mr. HARDIMAN paid $77 and some cents, judgment and costs. All of this would not have been, had the defendant closed his ears to the slanderous talk of the non-materializing, presto change, now Jim here now Jim elsewhere, expert.

On the 10th inst. Dr. VOJE returned from his trip to Europe. He spent a very pleasant year in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; and returns with his family, in excellent health. The doctor sold his entire property, drug store, horses and all, to Dr. Albert FUCHS who will continue to practice here. Dr. VOJE has located in Oconomowoc, where the kind wishes of his Fredonia friends accompany him. On Friday evening the village folks came together and with a brass band, perpetrated a serenade upon their new burger and doctor. Mr. Francis SMITH made a little speech, wherein he spoke of a general welcome and asked the doctor to do honor to a spread which had been prepared in the Sacoger Hall. Arrived at the hall, the good folks were soon seated, and a bounteous supper was dispatched. Dancing closed one of the neatest and most cosmopolitan entertainments ever held in our village.

As usual, the Port Washington Star has made a mess of a Fredonia item.-- Willie COOLEY, who had his hand badly injured on the 9th inst. has not had any of the fingers amputated; but will retain all of the members, and that with but very slight impairment of their beauty and usefulness.
