In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. This led to the US GENWEB, of which Wisconsin is a part. Volunteers are needed who are willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.

Special thanks to Marsha Ashley Wilcox For her excellent work in originating, creating, gathering and posting initial information to this Oconto County Site until October 1, 1998.

Oconto County boundaries changed drastically since it's founding in 1851, having lost and gained territory, until the borders were fixed at the present positions in 1960.  Early families often settled near each other. If you are unable to find your people in Oconto County, you might also want to check these Neighboring Counties:Brown, Forest , Langlade, Marinette, Menominee, and Shawano .
