C:\Wisconsin\Marathon County\Marathon\MarriagesPre1907.htm

Thanks to Betty Martz (BMartz4832) a wonderful volunteer who extracted all 17,101 names from this marriage index of indiviuals who married in Wisconsin before 1907, and registered this event.

Some of the indexes are incorrect - and any dates before 1820 are wrong.  However, if you give all the numbers, you should be able to get the correct record. The main thing is that the event WAS registered!

And these volumes and page numbers have NOTHING to do with the County Register of Deeds! If you write to them, just use the name and date. If you do write to Stevens Point for the records, you must have the grooms name - the brides name alone will not help, as records were kept by the grooms name.

Wisconsin Marriage Index, pre-1907

Wisconsin is one of the few states to have a wide-spread index of records prior to establishment of a state vital records office. However, it is important to note that there will be some records at the county level not included in this statewide index.

The Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah also has copies of birth, marriage, and death records for all Wisconsin counties pre-1907 on microfilm. You may locate film numbers using the on-line Family History Library Catalog or contact your local family history center for further information.

You can also request copies from the State Archives in Stevens Point, by e-mailing them at archives@uwsp.edu.Give them all the information on these old records, and they will send a copy and a bill for the research.  Make sure you include your name and postal address and phone number! YOU NEED TO PROVIDE THE GROOM'S NAME, NOT THE BRIDES.

I will underline each letter as it is finished.
