Page 1

The 1870 Federal Census contains the following information (please note the letter assigned to each question) --

A -- Dwelling houses and number in order of visitation.
B -- Families numbered in the order of visitation.
C -- The full name of every person whose place of abode on the 1st day of June, 1870, was in this family.
D -- Age at last birthday. If under 1 year, give months in fractions, thus, 3/12.
E -- Sex – Males (M), females (F).
F -- Color – White (W), black (B), mulatto (M), Chinese (C), Indian (I).
G -- Profession, occupation, or trade of each male, male or female.
H -- Value of real estate.
I -- Value of personal estate.
J -- Place of birth, naming the state or territory of the United States, or the country, if of foreign birth.
K -- Father of foreign birth.
L -- Mother of foreign birth.
M -- If born within the year, state month (Jan., Feb., etc.).
N -- If married within the year, state month (Jan., Feb., etc.).
O -- Attended school within the year.
P -- Can not read.
Q -- Can not write.
R -- Whether deaf and dumb, blind, insane, or idiotic.
S -- Male citizens of United States of 21 years of age and upwards.
T -- Male citizens of United States of 21 years of age and upwards, whose right to vote is
               denied or abridged on other grounds than rebellion or other crime.
