April 30, 1920 --

Mrs. Ellen Yamie, aged about 60 was knocked down and killed by a cow at her home at Liberty Sat.

George W. Patton is ill has his home here.

Miss Virginia Peery has been ill at her home on Tazewell Ave.  but is better at this time.

Mrs. John F. Gillespie remains ill at her home at Wittens Mill.

M. J. Hankins, the well known Tazewell merchant, is retiring from the dry goods business.

PATRICK H. WILLIAMS -- Patrick H. Williams, for 16 years superintendent of Tazewell county schools, died in Mattie Williams hospital last Thursday.  He was 74 years of age.  He volunteered in the Confederate army and was a member of Company C, 16th Virginia cavalry, of which Jonathan Hankins, of Tazewell, was Captain.  Mrs. M.J. Spurlock, of W. V. a sister, is the only surviving member of the family.

On Wednesday of last week, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tarter celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.

CHARLES SCOTT -- Mr. Charles Scott, 84 years of age, a well known citizen of Thompson Valley, died at his home last Sunday.  During the Civil War he was a memeber of the 45th Regiment, commanded by Colonel Browne, Stonewall Brigade.
