 Lunenburg County, Va. Tithe List for the year 1750.

At the time of the 1750 Tithe List, Lunenburg County consisted of all the land from the Brunswick County line west to the crest of the Blue Ridge, at approximately the location of the Blue Ridge Parkway. From this vast territory, the counties of Halifax, 1752; Bedford, 1753; Charlotte and Mecklenburg, 1764; Pittsylvania and Henry, 1766; Campbell, 1781; Franklin, 1785; Patrick, 1790; part of Grayson, 1792 and part of Floyd, 1831 were formed.

At least nine and possibly more persons were assigned to take the Tithe List from the residents of this area. I have copied each of their reports and tried to the best of my ability to decipher each of their writings. They are sometimes difficult, so if I have a ? behind a name, it is because I am unsure of the spelling.

There are well over 1000 names of both Black and White residents of Lunenburg County, Va. in this 1750 tithe list.

Lunenburg Co., Va. Court Order Book One

May 1746 to May 1748

 

Just completed, the Lunenburg Court Order Book One, from May 1746-May 1748, with names of Justices, Vestrymen, Sheriff, Constables, Tithe takers and all other Court Officials for Lunenburg County, VA.  Also has lists of Ear Marks used to identify farmers livestock.  The  persons in charge of Road Surveys in all parts of the county, which at that time contained part or all of at least nine counties, from the Brunswick County line to the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains are shown.
Court cases with the Plaintiff and Defendant names as well as their Attorneys, Bail posters, Jurymen and Grand Jury names, and disposition of the cases are included in over 430 pages, as they appear in the original books in the Clerks Office at Lunenburg Court House, Va.
