The first Superior Court of Pulaski County, Virginia convened in the house of James TIFFANY in the Town of Newbern on 20 April 1839, the Honorable James E. BROWN presiding. William B. CHARLTON was appointed to the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for the County of Pulaski and in open court took the oath of fidelity to the Commonwealth.. On a motion of William B. CHARLTON Clerk of the Court, Lynch A. CURRIN is permitted to qualify as his Deputy and thereupon he took the oath of fidelity to the Commonwealth. [The mother of Lynch A. CURRIN, Rhoda CHARLTON, is the brother of William B. CHARLTON.]

VERMILLION, David F. KENT and Edwin WATSON, Gentlemen Justices The Court proceeded to the appointment of Clerk of this Court. [James C. CURRIN is the brother of Lynch A. CURRIN.]. The candidates were William B. CHARLTON, Lynch A. CURRIN and Harvey SHEPARD. On the fifth time voting, Lynch A. CURRIN was elected Clerk of the Court.
Lynch A. CURRIN served as the Deputy Clerk of Pulaski County from 1839 until April 1846 when he was elected Clerk of the Court of Pulaski and served from 1846 until he retired after the election for county clerk in 1864.
Lynch Alexander CURRIN was born 6 February 1812 just southeast of Newbern, which was then a part of Montgomery County. He married Elizabeth Nye HALLER on 20 August 1839 in Wytheville, Wythe County. Elizabeth was the daughter of Dr. Jacob Draper HALLER and Priscilla "Cindy" Malinda NYE of Wytheville. Lynch A. CURRIN was the son of Captain William CURRIN and Rhoda CHARLTON of the Newbern area. The parents of Captain William CURRIN was Robert CURRIN and Ann THOMASSON. Robert and Ann moved to the area on the New River southeast of Newbern in 1784 where Robert owned a 1060 acre plantation. Robert, Ann and relatives are buried on the Robert CURRIN family cemetery near the New River. This is a 40 by 40 square foot cemetery on that part of the plantation (490 acres) that was sold to John WYGAL, Sr on 5 February 1835 by Robert P. CURRIN (son of Robert CURRIN and Ann THOMASSON and uncle of Lynch A. CURRIN) and Margery M. CURRIN of Williamson County, Tennessee. It is apparent that their children and some grand children resided on the plantation.
Lynch A. CURRIN died on 13 March 1871 and is buried in the Dr. Jacob D. HALLER plot at the East End Cemetery, Wytheville, Wythe County, Virginia. His wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in death. She died 21 January 1866 and is buried next to her husband. Three of their children William R. CURRIN, James R. CURRIN and Rush F. CURRIN are buried with them. The children of Lynch A. CURRIN and Elizabeth Nye HALLER are:
Mary "Molly" Elizabeth CURRIN born 1844 and married Dr. Joseph D. Graham.
William R. CURRIN born 4 April 1846 and died 11 August 1852.
James R. CURRIN born 1 June 1848 and died 5 July 1864.
Waddy G. CURRIN, Sr. born September 1851 and died after 1900. Wife Catherine.
Willie Maria CURRIN born June 1853 and died 1884. Married William "Will" L. CURRIN a cousin
John Philpot CURRIN, Sr. born 20 September 1855 and died after 1893. Married first to Sally STONE and then Margaret RING.
Haller Alexander CURRIN born 12 October 1857 and died 30 May 1933 Mercer Co., WV. Married first to Ella M. STRAW daughter of Dr. John Brown STRAW and second Anna Elizabeth HOLLAND.
Sarah M. CURRIN born December 1859. No record of Sarah.
Rush F. CURRIN 23 December 1861 and died 4 July 1866.
Robert CURRIN and his wife were both born in Louisa County, Virginia. In 1784 he purchased land on the New River and added to the land until 1797 when he made a combined patent of his 1060 acres or land. This land was located on the New River and extends north to an area just southeast of the city of Newbern. Robert CURRIN and Ann THOMASSON had the following children:
Lt. John CURRIN born 1769 Louisa Co., VA married Barsheba MENIFEE 30 July 1796 in Lincoln Co. KY. He died in Davidson Co., TN on 24 October 1830.
Major George CURRIN born 1771 Louisa Co., VA married Martha SWIFT daughter of Col. Flower SWIFT on 31 May 1804 Grayson Co., VA. He also served as a member of VA State Legislature 1810-1814 and 1816-1818. He died 6 June 1818 at Galax, Grayson Co., VA. His wife and most of the children moved to Missouri where there was great illness and Martha died. The children then removed to Currinsville, Oregon before 1850.
Mary CURRIN born 1773 Louisa Co., VA. married William INGRAM 18 February 1799 in Montgomery Co., VA.
Captain William CURRIN born 1777 Louisa Co., VA married Rhoda CHARLTON daughter of James CHARLTON, Sr. 26 June 1804 Montgomery Co., VA. Rhoda's father served in the Revolutionary War in Virginia with his brothers John CHARLTON and Francis CHARLTON (all of Montgomery Co., VA). William CURRIN was the Commissioner of Revenue for the Newbern area of Montgomery County. He died 1828. The children of William CURRIN and Rhoda CURRIN are:
Robert Shipton CURRIN born 20 April 1805 Montgomery Co., VA.
James Charlton CURRIN born 19 October 1806. Died after 1870. He was Commissioner, Deputy Sheriff and Sheriff of Pulaski Co., VA.
William T. CURRIN born 28 July 1808 Montgomery Co., VA. Must have died young.
Julia Ann CURRIN born 17 May 1810 Montgomery Co., VA. Must have died young.
Lynch Alexander CURRIN born 6 February 1812. Family discussed earlier.
Waddy George CURRIN born 16 June 1814 Montgomery Co., VA married Francina LAWRENCE 24 January 1852. He died 14 September 1872 Montgomery Co., VA.
John Philpot CURRIN born 16 June 1816 Montgomery Co., VA married Sally Wood KINCANNON 9 July 1845. He died 19 August 1849 in Wythe Co., VA.
Lucinda Elizabeth CURRIN born 12 October 1819 Montgomery Co., VA. Must have died young.
James E. CURRIN born 1778 Louisa Co., VA married Polly TIMBERLAKE 1805 in Fluvanna Co., VA. She was the daughter of John TIMBERLAKE, Sr. of Fluvanna Co., VA. James E. CURRIN was Sheriff of Fluvanna Co., VA. Later in life, he removed to Fayette Co., TN where he died in April 1848.
Hugh CURRIN born 1779 Louisa Co., VA married Margaret "Peggy" WYNNE 1807 Tazewell Co., VA. Peggy was the daughter of William WYNNE, Jr. and Phillis Mars. Hugh CURRIN died in 1818 at Tazewell Co., VA. Some of his children moved to Russell Co., VA and some moved to Chariton County, MO.
Christina "Kitty" CURRIN born 11 December 1784 Louisa Co., VA married John Lynch CHARLTON 15 February 1813 in Montgomery Co., VA. John Lynch CHARLTON was the son of James CHARLTON, Sr. of Montgomery County. Unfortunately Kitty died before 1820 leaving three children motherless. John Lynch CHARLTON then married Catherine B. G. POLLARD on 2 July 1821. John died November 1835. His wife eventually moved with the children to Tennessee and married Walter T. GREER on 12 February, 1845 in Davidson Co., TN.
Waddy T. CURRIN born 1787 Montgomery Co., VA. He was married about 1808 but his wife's name is not known. In 1818 he migrated to Howard Co., MO where he was a merchant. Later in life, before 1830, he removed to Randolph Co., MO where he died 5 February 1831.
Robert P. CURRIN born 1789 Montgomery Co., VA married Margaret "Margie" M. NICHOLSON 13 March 1811 Davidson Co., TN. He was a merchant in Franklin and Nashville, TN and owned a 2200 acre plantation in Lauderdale Co., TN. He died 31 July 1857 in Lauderdale Co., TN but is buried in the City Cemetery, Nashville, TN.
Ann S. CURRIN born 1790 Montgomery Co., VA. Ann never married but resided with her brother Robert P. CURRIN in Franklin and Nashville, TN. She died 9 July 1854 in Nashville and is buried in the Nashville City Cemetery.
Lt. Jonathan CURRIN born about 1792 Montgomery Co., VA married Elizabeth JENKINS 14 December 1813 in Williamson Co., TN. He died September 1843.
William Bowles CHARLTON was born in Montgomery County, VA on 18 March 1792 in Montgomery County, VA. He was the first Clerk of the Court for Pulaski County, Virginia. He was the son of James CHARLTON, Sr. and Abigail BOWLES daughter of William BOWLES and Hannah Moore of Montgomery Co., VA. He married Malinda Janes INGLES daughter of John INGLES, Sr. on 19 December 1826 in Montgomery Co., VA. William Bowles CHARLTON died 14 February 1867 either in Montgomery or Pulaski Co., VA. Malinda was born 1 September 1801 in Montgomery Co., VA. She died 3 February 1888 either in Montgomery or Pulaski County, VA. Their known children are:
Margaret CHARLTON married John AIKEN.
Thomas J. CHARLTON married Julia Wall.
Maria Brown CHARLTON married James GARDNER.
