Roanoke Times, The (VA) November 4, 2001 Estimated printed pages: 2 HIX, Clyde Ellen Rigney Williams, 87, of The Pulaski Retirement Community, Pulaski, died early Friday morning, November 2, 2001, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Delton, Va. (Pulaski County), on November 16, 1913. She was retired from Playtex Corporation, which was formerly Virginia Maid Hosiery Hills, with 35 plus years of service. She worked as a sitter for ten years after retirement and did volunteer work at Pulaski Community Hospital. Mrs. Hix was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pulaski. Until recently, she had made her home with her daughter, Jean, in Vinton, where she was a member of the Phebean Sunday School Class at Vinton Baptist Church. Mrs. Hix was preceded in death by her parents, George E. Rigney and Elizabeth Coalson Rigney Hancock, and by her husbands, John Leslie "Shorty" Williams and George Thomas Hix. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Alma Rigney Taylor, a brother, Clarence Rigney, and three step-brothers, Buford Hancock, Alton Hancock and Ishmael Hancock. Surviving are three children and spouses, Jean W. Thurman and husband, Walter "Buddy" Thurman, Vinton, Roger Alton Williams and wife, Melissa Williams, Dublin; step-son and wife, Duane and Betty Hix, Draper; five grandchildren, Kevin Bradley Williams and fianc, Anne Yastremski, John Walter Thurman, Joan Katherine Thurman, Christy Southern Underwood and husband, Johnny, and Eric Southern; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Alma) Rigney, Mrs. Buford (Maggie) Hancock, Mrs. Ishmael (Mary) Hancock, and Mrs. Alton (Mamie) Hancock; one step-sister, Beulah Hancock; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Peagram officiating. Burial will follow in Draper Cemetery. Visiting will be Sunday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1652, Pulaski, Va. 24301.
