Albert Wise Covey, 82, of Snowville, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2008. The oldest son of Thomas Wise Covey and Vera Harman Covey, he was born June 2, 1925. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eunice Shelburne Covey; his children and their spouses, Thomas W. and Becky Covey, of Snowville, Daniel and Debbie Covey, of Snowville, and Carol and Leon Dishon, of Childress. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Erin Mowry and husband, Ryan, Nick Dishon and fiance, Kayla Murphy, and Daniel Covey Jr. He is also survived by one greatgrandson; three stepgrandsons; two sisters and their husbands, Ruth and Bill Withers, of Lynchburg, and Ellen and Frank Moore, of Draper, also survive him. He was preceded in death by a brother, William David Covey and a son, Timothy Lee Covey. Albert served in the Army during World War II with most of his time in Germany. After his discharge, he returned to Snowville and operated the family farm. Although farming was his first love, he supported his family by working at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 29 years. Albert retired in 1982. He loved his farm and the cattle business. He often commented that one must be smarter than a cow in order to be a cattleman. Albert was also a talented carpenter and mechanic. He designed and constructed his home and many farm buildings. He was also very fond of his antique farm machinery. However, he didn’t keep the Farmall tractors for historical purposes; he used them! Albert was a member of Laurel Hill, Church of Christ. The family will receive visitors at DeVilbiss Funeral Home on Sunday, January 13, 2008, from 3 until 4 p.m. The service will be conducted by Mr. Blake Griffith at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at the Covey Cemetery in Snowville.
