MRS. ELIZABETH BERREY

Madison Exponent March 3, 1911

Mrs. Berrey Laid to Rest Near Skyland

            Mrs. Elizabeth Berrey, relict of Mr. William Berrey, died at her home in this county near Skyland, last Sunday night and was buried in the family cemetery on Tuesday. Mrs. Berrey was a consistent member of the German Brethren (Dunkard) church, and had reached an advanced age… leaves five daughters as follows: Mrs. W.A. Brown, Mrs. Charles Jones and Mrs. Albert Jenkins, of Page county, and Mrs. M.T. Smith and Mrs. Tine Nicholson, of Madison county.                                                                     

EPHRAIM JENKINS

Madison Exponent Friday 23 Jun 1922

            Ephraim Jenkins, a native of Madison county, died Tuesday, June 20, 1922, at his home in Culpeper. The body was conveyed Wednesday to his old home near Etland and buried, after a brief service at the home. Mr. Jenkins had been in declining health for three years, and some six weeks since he had a severe hemorrhage. He, however, recovered partially from it and was able to go about at the home. Children: Messrs. George and Henry Jenkins and Mrs. Ada Yowell, of Culpeper, and Mrs. Annie Utz, and Mrs. Caddie Utz, of Etlan. The deceased was a devout member of the Methodist church…                                                                                                                        

NOAH JENKINS

Madison Exponent Friday 7 Apr 1911

Criglersville, April 6- The funeral of another of our oldest citizens took place near here last Sunday afternoon that of Mr. Noah Jenkins, aged 80 years, 1 month and 22 days. He died of old age superinduced by an attack of grip.    Mr. Jenkins was a faithful soldier in the war between the States… He was twice married and was the father of 18 children; he had about 60 grand-children, and about 40 great-grand-children. A number of sons and daughters survive him, some of whom have emigrated to the far west.

            He was for many years a devoted member of Oak Grove Church, was a staunch Methodist, and devout Christian.                                                                                            

ALBERT NICOL

In Memoriam

            Mr. Albert Nicol died at his home at Graves Mill on Tuesday Dec. 24, 1912, aged 79 years, 3 months and 7 days, and was tenderly laid to rest in the family burying ground on Wednesday, his pastor, Rev. M.C. Frazer conducting the services…

            Of a large family of brothers and sisters, there is only one surviving member- Mrs. John Jarrell.

            He was married in 1854 to Miss M.C. Estes, and to this union was born 12 children- 9 girls and 3 boys- 4 of whom have preceded him to that eternal shore… He leaves a widow and 8 children to mourn their loss- H.W. and .G.G. Nicol, Mrs. P.R. Davis, Mrs. Richard Jarrell, Mrs. M.L. Mauck, Mrs. A.D. Jenkins, Mrs. R.M. Rosser and Mrs. G.F. Griffith, all of Madison county except the latter, who lives at Manassas, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren… a consistent member of Graves chapel for a number of years.                                                                                                          

AARON NICHOLSON

Madison Exponent, Friday 9 Dec 1910

            Mr. Aaron Nicholson died at his home near Wolftown, last Friday evening, aged 78 years. Mr. Nicholson leaves a wife and several sons and daughters to mourn his death. Mr. Nicholson lived most of his life near Nethers. He was present at most of the terms of our court and was well known to most of the people of the county. Mr. Nicholson leaves some property, all of which he gives to his wife.                                                              

MRS. SARAH SEAL

Madison Exponent Friday 24 Sep 1926

            Mrs. Sarah Seal, widow of Joseph Seal, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B.F. Breeden, near Seville, Sept. 20, 1926, aged 75 years. She had been in declining health for some time.

            The deceased leaves to mourn her loss the following children: Mrs. B.F. Breeden, Mrs. Ashby Breeden, Rev. D.B. Seal, Messrs. J.P., Grover and Wilmer Seal, Mrs. Seal was the mother of 13 children.

            The body was carried to Syria Tuesday and laid to rest on the old home place, beside her husband who preceded her to the grave many years. Mr. George L. Gibbs, of Shelby, was the undertaker.

            Mr. Fielding J. Smith passed his 92d birthday, Thursday, June 15, at his home near Town…                                                                                                                                 

CARNETT WEAKLEY

Madison Exponent Friday 22 Oct 1926

            Carnett Weakley died Oct. 9, 1926, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.B. McAllister, two and-a-half miles east of Mount Fair, in his 87th year. He was born in May, 1840. He was an old confederate soldier, having served through the war. He was slightly wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, where he was taken prisoner and kept till the war closed. Mr. Weakley leaves five children, Robert Weakley, of Old Rag, Madison county; William H. Weakley, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Mrs. G.W. Colvin, of Dawson, Pa.; Mrs. W.B. McAllister, of Mt. Fair, and Mrs. Savilla Jones, of Waynesboro. He also leaves one brother, Mr. Calhoun Weakley, of Lexington, Ill. His burial was beside his wife…                                                                                                                                    

HENDERSON WEAKLEY

Madison Exponent Friday 15 Jan 1926

            Henderson W. Weakley died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1926 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.A. Campbell, in Washington, of cancer of the stomach. He had been in failing health for several years. Mr. Weakley was born Dec. 9 1865, and raised in Madison county near Syria. He was a substantial farmer and businessman and the owner of considerable real estate. At one time he was deputy tax collector for Robinson District… He moved to Culpeper about three years ago and bought a farm on the outskirts of town.

            Mr. Weakley was the son of Silas Weakley. He is survived by his widow who was Miss Missie Gallihugh, and seven daughters, Mrs. W.A. Campbell, Mrs. S.S. Nicholson, Mrs. J.E. Leaman and Misses Sallie and Nina Weakley, all of Washington, Mrs. H.H. Hogan, of Piper city, Ill., and Mrs. O.F. Bates, of Culpeper, also one brother, Mr. H.S. Weakley and four sisters, Mrs. Charles Jenkins, Mrs. Thomas Jenkins, Mrs. Burch and Mrs. Addie Edwards. Eighteen grandchildren also survive.

            The funeral was held from his late home at Culpeper Thursday at 2 p.m. services were conducted by Rev. E.W. Winfrey.
