James F. Blankenbaker
James Fletcher Blankenbaker, 87, of Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community,
formerly of Madison, died Friday, April 19, 2002, in Culpeper. Born March 24,
1915, in Madison County, he was a son of the late John William Blankenbaker and
Bertha Aylor Blankenbaker. Mr. Blankenbaker was also preceded in death by a
sister, Ethel Mae Blankenbaker. He was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church, an
Army veteran of World War II, a retired salesman for Pioneer Seed Corn and a
farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Earl Hitt Blankenbaker of Culpeper Baptist Retirement
Community.
A graveside funeral service was held April 22, at Hebron Lutheran Church
Cemetery with Pastor Jim Larsen officiating.
Preddy Funeral Home, Madison, was in charge of arrangements.
James H. Blankenbaker
James Henry Blankenbaker, 86, of Culpeper Retirement Home, died Sunday,
April 21, 2002, at Culpeper Regional Hospital. Born April 2, 1916, in Madison
County, he was a son of the late Henry Nelson Blankenbaker and Winaford Clore
Blankenbaker. Mr. Blankenbaker was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Odd
Fellow Organization 59, Culpeper VFW Post 2425 and a member of Hebron Lutheran
Church. Mr. Blankenbaker was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Frances
Blankenbaker.
Surviving are his wife, Katie Brown Blankenbaker of Culpeper; a daughter,
Lucille W. Rapp and husband, Ronald S. Rapp of Hartfield; four sisters, Virginia
Carpenter of Brightwood, Ellen Turner and Helen Burke, both of Ft. Myers,
Florida and Gladys Proctor of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, Bonnie B. Holt
and husband, Dr. Frank L. Holt of Ocean Isle, North Carolina and James S. Rapp
of Ferndale, Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon and Adam Holt
and Daniel Rapp.
A funeral service was held Thursday, April 25, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel,
Madison, with interment in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Haywood, with the
Rev. Brian Wagner officiating.
Military honors were conducted by Culpeper VFW Post 2425 and Culpeper American
Legion Post 330.
Lillie W. Deal
Lillie Virginia Whorton Deal, 83, of Culpeper, died Sunday, April 21, 2002,
at Countryside Home for Adults in Pratts. Born April 11, 1919, in Rappahannock
County, she was a daughter of the late Biedler and Virgie Campbell Whorton. Mrs.
Deal was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, active volunteer at Culpeper Health
and Rehabilitation Center, was a caregiver for many years and a past employee at
Blue Bell Jean Company in Madison. Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by her
husband, Andrew Lee (Doodle) Deal, Sr.; a son, Andrew Lee Deal, Jr., and several
siblings.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Deal Ellington and her husband, Randy,
and Linda Deal Broyles and her husband, Bobby, all of Culpeper and a son Ernest
Gibbs Deal of Amissville; grandchildren, Peggy Sue Deal Durrette and her
husband, Anthony Glenn, of Richmond, Lee Anne Deal Jury and her husband,
Matthew, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Valerie Ellington Mills and her husband,
Rodney, of Culpeper, Marty Ellington and his fiancée, Sara Aukenthaler, of
Madison, Angie Ellington Woodward and her husband, Michael, of Madison, of
Culpeper, Jamie Lynne Broyles and Kristina Dolan Broyles, both of Culpeper,
Justin Andrew Deal, and Brandon Trent Deal, both of Amissville and Phillip Ryan
Deal of Remington; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Glenn and Michael Anthony
Durrette and Hope Elizabeth Jury and a number of brothers and sisters.
A funeral service was held April 24, at Bethel Baptist Church, Reva, with the
Rev. Kenneth F. Huneycutt officiating. Interment was in Etlan Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Baker, Gene Jenkins, Carroll Stringfellow, Bruce Cave,
Harris Burke, G. C. Tutwiler, and Don and Gary Deal.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, Culpeper, was in charge of arrangements.
Frances M. Ferneyhough
Frances Mauck Ferneyhough, 81, of Mathews, died at her home on Friday, April
19, 2002. Born April 2, 1921, in Madison County, she was a daughter of the late
Lonza M. and Maude Davis Mauck. Mrs. Ferneyhough was a retired keypunch operator
for Trailways Buslines and Pepsi Cola Company of Charlottesville. Mrs.
Ferneyhough was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin D. Ferneyhough; a
former husband, Curtis H. Gibson; a stepson, Pastor Curtis L. Gibson and two
brothers, Lonza Davis Mauck and Sam Mauck and a sister, Louise Corbin.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn F. Bressler and husband, Dennis,
of Titusville, Florida and Marilyn Kaye Geoghean of Mathews; a son, Kenneth D.
Gibson of Huntington Beach, California; two grandchildren, Jeff Wood of
Huntington Beach and Mrs. Lisa Persse of Rockledge, Florida; two
great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Adam Williams of Rockledge; a long-time
friend, Frank Tallman of Mathews; a sister-in-law, Mary Mauck of Mathews; three
nieces; three great-nieces and four great-nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 22, at Preddy Funeral Home, Orange,
with interment in Monticello Memorial Gardens, Charlottesville. Pastor Eileen
Gibson Lehmann officiated.

James W. Twyman
James William Twyman, 83, of Baltimore, Maryland, formerly of Twyman’s Mill,
Madison County, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at Riverview Care Center in Essex,
Maryland. Born December 8, 1918, in Madison County, he was a son of the late
Charles E. Twyman and Amy Mahanes Twyman. He was also preceded in death by a
son, James E. Twyman. Mr. Twyman was an Army veteran of World War II, a retired
engineer for Martin Aircraft of Baltimore and a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are a daughter, Danna T. Gibson and husband, Framton, of Spruce Pine,
North Carolina; two sisters, Sue Schmigel of Baltimore and Nancy James of
Aurora, Colorado; two grandchildren, Amber Miller and Andy Gibson, both of
Spruce Pine; three nieces, Debbie Coiner, Pamela Amos and Temple Ann Fox; five
nephews, Robert Yowell, Robert, Charles and David James and Edwin Lewis Twyman.
A graveside memorial service was held April 2, at 11 a.m. in Walker’s United
Methodist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Bill Clayton officiating.
Preddy Funeral Home, Orange, was in charge of arrangements.
