Olivia L. Bruce
Olivia Lucille Bruce, 93, of
Leon, died March 13, 2002, at her residence. Born February 28, 1909, in Leon,
she was a daughter of the late Silas M. Bruce and Emma Shotwell Bruce. She was a
homemaker and helped operate the SM Bruce and Company and the Bruce farm. She
was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Frank Bruce and a sister, Mary
Hill Bruce.
Surviving is a sister, Emily D. Bruce of Leon.
A funeral service was held March 18, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs.
Kenneth Huneycutt and Gordon George officiating. Interment was in church
cemetery.

Mary T. Carpenter
Mary Catherine Tanner
Carpenter, 87, of Madison, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at Martha Jefferson
Hospital. Born January 4, 1915, in Madison, she was a daughter of the late James
William Tanner and Mattie May Tanner. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Madison
United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Benton Smith Carpenter; four brothers, Charlie, Hubert, Edwin
and Yeager Tanner and a sister, Florine Tanner Aylor.
Survivors include two daughters, Alma Lu Car-penter Ayers and husband, Earl, of
Madison and Catherine Ann Carpenter Cave and husband, George, of Fairfax; a
brother, Jesse Tanner of Madison; a sister, Berta Tanner Estes of Madison and
six grandchildren, Nathan V. Ayers of Richmond, Matthew B. Ayers and Jonathan E.
Ayers, both of Madison, and William Benton, Rachel Catherine and Mary Elizabeth
(Molly) Cave, all of Fairfax.
A graveside funeral service was held March 21, at Cedar Hill Cemetery conducted
by the Rev. Charles Stacey.

868, Madison, Virginia 22727.
Preddy Funeral Home, Madison, was in charge of arrangements.
Larry W. Knighting
Larry Wayne Knighting, 48, of
Locust Grove, died Monday, March 18, 2002, at his residence. He was born October
6, 1953, in Culpeper. Mr. Knighting was a self-employed plum-ber, contractor and
former CEO for TCI of Virginia, working most of his life in the cable TV
industry, a graduate of Culpeper High School in 1972 and a member of Highway
Assembly of God Church in Fredericksburg.
Survivors include his wife, Linda C. Knighting of Locust Grove; his father, John
W. Knighting and wife, Nancy, of Madison; his mother, Anna Marie Waugh and
husband, Bill, of Culpeper; stepchildren, Kelly Anne Louque of Locust Grove,
Joni E. Louque and Ronald J. Louque, II, both of Ruckersville; a son, Zachary
Cullop of Brightwood; a sister, Judy Tharpe of Culpeper; three step-sisters,
Stephanie Dudley of Charlottesville, Linda Knighting and Lenora Knighting, both
of Madison and a number of uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends Thursday, at 7 p.m. followed by a memorial
service at 8 p.m. March 21, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison. Pastor
Dick Jackson will officiate.

Virginia D. Whitlock
Virginia Daniel Whitlock, 39
and holding, of Orange, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Orange County Nursing
Home. Born in Graves Mill, Madison County, she was a daughter of the late
William E. Daniel and Martha Lillard Daniel. Her husband was the late Robert L.
Whitlock. Mrs. Whitlock was a member of Orange Baptist Church and a longtime
member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Orange Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving are two sisters, Elna D. White of Wolftown and Margueritte Southerland
of Harrisonburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was held March 20, in Graham Cemetery, Orange, with
Dr. Stanley Johnson officiating.
Pallbearers were her nephews.

367, Orange, Virginia 22960.
