Mary L. Hitt
Mary Lee Hitt, 79, of Culpeper,
formerly of Madison, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at her daughter’s residence
in Madison. Born August 17, 1922, in Madison County, she was a daughter of the
late Howard J. Berry and Annie Butler Berry. She was a charter member of the
Culpeper Moose Lodge Chapter 1639. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hitt was
preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Breeden and Mazie Nicholson.
Survivors include her husband, Roger Lee Hitt of Culpeper; two daughters, Mary
Dodson and husband, Richard, of Brightwood and Evelyn Racer of Madison; two
sons, Johnny Woodard and wife, Shirley, of Unionville and David Woodard of
Louisa; a stepson, Bryan Woodard of Severna Park, Maryland; a brother, Ashby
Berry of Madison; a sister, Ruby Weakley of Madison; 22 grandchildren; 48
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a number of
step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held July 7 at Preddy Funeral Home, Madison, conducted by
Pastor William Payne.
