Mrs. J.S. Good Succumbs Near New Market
NEW MARKET, March 13- Mrs. Mary Frances Good, 80, wife of Julius S. Good, well known farmer, died at 7:30 tonight at her home in the St. Martin’s community three miles west of New Market. She had been in feeble health for a year.
Mrs. Good lived all of her life in the community and had many friends. She was a daughter of Noah and Amanda Peters Zirkle.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Everett and Robert Good and Miss Marjorie Good, of New Market, and two sisters, Miss Clara Zirkle and Mrs. Jane Fry, also of New Market.
The body is now at the Theiss Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements were not completed tonight.

W.D. Hensley, of Elkton Succumbs
ELKTON, April 14- Worthy D. Hensley, 56, well-known poultry man of this community, died at the University Hospital yesterday afternoon. He had been a patient at that hospital for a week but had been in failing health for a number of years.
Surviving are his wife. Mrs. Vada V. Hensley and the following children: Mrs. Ressie Huttle, of Elkton; Mrs. Velma Utterback, of Arlington; Kirby Hensley, of Shenandoah; Clague and Hoover Hensley at home. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. J.B. Sullivan of Swift Run; Mrs. Lucy Dean, Barboursville; Mrs. Bluford Lam, Elkton. Two brothers, Robert Hensley, of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Gruver Hensley, of Shenandoah, also survive. Surviving are eight children.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock from the Elkton Evangelical United Brethren Church. The Rev. S.J. Westfall will have charge of the services and burial will be in Elk Run Cemetery.

ELKTON- Mrs. Cordelia F. Lam, 71, of Elkton died Thursday evening at her home. She had been in failing health a number of years.
Mrs. Lam was born Aug. 10, 1896. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Russell Hensley, Mrs. Ray Lam and Mrs. Katherine Rush; 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The boyd is at the Brill Funeral Home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Lam died Thursday at her home.
Among survivors is a sister, Mrs. M.K. Eppard of Elkton.

Mrs. Joseph Lam Dies At Hospital

Elkton, April 14- Mrs. Elzy Margaret Lam, 68, widow of Joseph Lam, died at Rockingham Memorial Hospital early this morning where she had been a patient for a week.
A daughter of the late Oliver P. and Margaret Taylor, she was born in Stanley, May 22, 1883. She spent most of her life at Humes Run. She was a life-long member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Mrs. Lam is survived by three sons, W.O. Lam, Shenandoah; Fred R. Lam and Sylvester C. Lam, of Elkton. She also leaves four daughters, Mrs. John Dovel, Mrs. Homer Dovel, Mrs. Irvin Dovel, and Mrs. Weldon Rodeffer, all of near Elkton. One brother, Charles Taylor of Shenandoah and one sister, Mrs. D.M. Gladwell, of Harrisonburg also survive. She leaves thirty-seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from the St. Peter’s Evangelical United Brethren Church at Himes Run. The Rev. P.W. Fisher will have charge of the services, assisted by the Rev. George Stanley. Burial will be in the church cemetery…

Humes Run Man Dies In Sleep. Funeral Tuesday
ELKTON, Oct. 17- Joseph Reuben Thomas Lam, 72, was found dead in bed at his home in the Humes Run section near Shenandoah early this morning.
Mr. Lam was a son of the late William H. and Sarah Long Lam. On Dec. 24, 1901 he married Miss Elzy Taylor, who survives.
He was a member of St. Peters Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by the following children: William O. Lam, of Penn Laird; Fred H? Lam, of Shenandoah; Sylvester C. Lam, of Elkton; Mrs. Hattie Dovel, Mrs. Joan Dovel, Mrs. Weldon Rodeffer, and Mrs. John Dove of Elkton. He is also survived by one brother, Warfield Lam, of East Point; two sisters, Miss Rebecca Lam, of McGaheysville; and Mrs. Lydia Barton, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; 37 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
One daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from St. Peters Evangelical United Brethren Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. P.W. Fisher, assisted by the Rev. John Henderson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lam, 81, Dies at Her Mt. Zion Home
ELKTON, Feb. 18- Mrs. Malindia Katherine Lam, 81, widow of Luther Lam, died this morning at her home in the Mt. Zion section.
Mrs. Lam was one of the oldest residents of that section and widely known.
She is survived by the following children: Peter E. Lam, of McGaheysville, Mrs. J.R. May, of McGaheysville, Mrs. Ray E. Fellers, of Bridgewater and Mrs. Ray Shifflett, of Oxford, Pa. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Mt. Zion Church with the Rev. Floyd L. Fulk, officiating. Interment will be in East Point cemetery.

Funeral Services for C-W Veteran at U.B. Church, 2:30
Thomas Alexander Lam, age 70, storekeeper, Chesapeake Western Ry., Elkton, died at 4:30 P.M. Thursday, March 15, 1945, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for a year and a half but worked until last Saturday.
He was the son of the late Chas. B. and Lucinda Lam and was born near Elkton, Va. on Aug. 1, 1874.
On Dec. 28, 1899 he was united in marriage to Minnie Elizabeth Meadows who survives him. He is also survived by the following children: Mrs. H.L. Jackson, Penn Laird; Stuart B. Lam, Staunton; and Mrs. E.W. White, Roanoke. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Edward Lam, McMullen; Lemuel Lam, Elkton; Sylvester Lam, Tenth Legion; Mrs. George E. Meadows, Herkimer, N.Y., Mrs. Vergie DeLaughter, Elkton, and Mrs. Raymond Brown, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Lam joined the United Brethren Church at Thoroughfare in 1897 and in 1899 transferred his membership to the St. Paul’s United Brethren Church in Elkton, in which church he served faithfully as a member of the Board of Trustees…

Thomas Uriah McDaniel 86, a well known resident of the McGaheysville community died unexpectedly at his home at 4:25 Monday morning.
Mr. McDaniel had been ill for about two weeks, but was improving Sunday. His passing was sudden.
He was born June 22, 1875 in Green County and was the son of the late Uriah and Frances Jane Breeden McDaniel.
He was a saw mill operator in his early life and later was employed by the C. and W. Railroad. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at the Forbert Corporation at McGaheysville.
He was married Sept. 19, 1908 to the former Miss Lula Lee Layman of McGaheysville who survives with three children: Mrs. Frances Loker, of Penn Laird; Miss Christina LeeBell McDaniel, of Route No. 1, McGaheysville, one son, Thomas Edward McDaniel, of McGaheysville, Rt. 1; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and two sisters: Mrs. Bertie Spitzer, a twin sister, of Baltimore, Md. and Miss Peachy Elizabeth McDaniel, who has been making her home with her brother for some years.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 from the chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Floyd D. Fulk in charge of the services. Burial will be in the McGaheysville Cemetery.
ZACHARRI MCDANIEL

Zacharri Newton (Zach) McDaniel, 92, a farmer of the Swift Run community near Elkton, died Tuesday evening at his home. Mr. McDaniel had been ill for several years.
He was a son of Newton McDaniel and Matilda Hensley McDaniel and was born on Feb. 29, 1874 in the Swift Run section where he spent most of his life. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.
On Dec. 25, 1913, he married Miss Maggie Knight, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Arthur, Junior and George McDaniel and Mrs. Alma Monger, all of Elkton, Reuben McDaniel of Baltimore, and Mrs. Lucy Merica of Waynesboro; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Hall of Charlottesville.
The body is at Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home pending the completion of funeral arrangements.

B.F. Offenbacker Dies At Elkton
ELKTON, July 31- Benjamin F. Offenbacker, 87, well known resident of Elkton died at his home here this (Monday) evening at 8:00 o’clock following a lingering illness.
Mr. Offenbacker was a son of the late Jacob T. and Mary T. Offenbacker of Page County. He was married to the former Miss Ellen Leap of this community. She preceded him in death. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. He was also an active member of the J.O.U.A.M. Council 149.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. J.L. Armentrout of Elkton; J. Frank Offenbacker, of Baltimore, Md.; T. Ralph Offenbacker, of Washington, D.C. and J. Ross Offenbacker, of Elkton, with whom he made his home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Elmore Lynch, of Washington, D.C., and one brother, Philip Offenbacker, of Conover, Ohio. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted from the late home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 and burial will be in the Elkton cemetery.

W. Offenbacker Dies at Home
ELKTON, Nov. 8- William J. Offenbacker, 87, died at his home near here Saturday morning. He had been in failing health for several years.
Mr. Offenbacker was a member of the Old School Baptist Church. He was one of the oldest members of the Junior Order United American Mechanics.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Fannie Cook Offenbacker, and eight children: Mrs. Elsie Alger and Mrs. Lee LaPearl, both of Elkton; Mrs. Willie Meadows, of Luray; Mrs. Blanche Beasley, Inwood, W.Va.; Emory, Marcus and Mack Offenbacker, of Elkton. Four children preceded him in death. He leaves 38 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Offenbacker had recently observed their 65th wedding anniversary.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at two o’clock from the Chapel of the Brill Funeral Home here. The Rev. C.E. Long, assisted by the Rev. Albert F. Sudduth and burial will be in the family cemetery, near Bear Lithia.

ELKTON- Miss Bertie L. Plum, 71, of Elkton died early Friday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Miss Plum was born Nov. 24, 1893 and was a daughter of the late William and Mildred Cook Plum.
Surviving are one sister, Miss Bertha Plum of Elkton and two brothers, Elmer Plum of York, Pa. and Munie Plum of Elkton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Elkton EUB Church by the Rev. Don Fridinger. Burial will be in Elk Run Cemetery...

SHENANDOAH- William Harrison Plum, 72, retired Norfolk and Western Railwat machinist and a lifelong resident of Shenandoah, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday at his home on Denver Ave. His condition was critical for 10 days. He suffered a stroke a year ago.
Mr. Plum, a son of John E. and Sarah Melton Plum, was a member of the EUB Church and Verbena Lodge, IOOF.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Zirkle Plum, a daughter, Mrs. Helen Knighton, of Shenandoah, and a son, Roy E. Plum, of Baltimore. Mrs. Plum is a native of McGaheysville.
Mr. Plum was the survivor of a family of eight children.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at two from the Warren G. Kyger funeral chapel, his pastor, the Rev. Robert Nair officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery...

Mrs. Sampson Passes Away
SHENANDOAH, March 13- Mrs. Fannie Lee Sampson, 82, wife of the late William Edward Sampson died at the home of her son, Cecil Sampson, of Shenandoah, this morning at 8:30, following a lingering illness.
One of Shenandoah’s oldest residents, she had spent her entire life in this section. She was a charter member of Number Two Furnace Methodist Church which she joined at the age of fifteen. Her husband preceded her in death in 1947 and one son also preceded her ind eath.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.A. (Lula) Simpson and Mrs. Lee (Olla) Ferrell, both of Shenandoah, and William Sampson, of Charlottesville. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Lucy Burracker, of Stanley and two brothers, William Seal, of Waynesboro and Benjamin Seal, of No. Two Furnace. Thirty-four grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, also survive.
The body will be removed from the Brill Funeral Home to the home of her son Cecil Sampson, here, Friday afternoon at 5:00 o’clock. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Number Two Furnace Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Hackley will have charge of the services and burial will be in the Huffman Cemetery.

Native of Pleasant Valley Passes Away At Crozet
Mrs. Annie Julia Sandy, 63, a native of Pleasant Valley and well known resident of Crozet, Va., died Saturday morning at 6 o’clock at her home in Crozet following an illness of five years.
Mrs. Sandy was a daughter of the late Hampton Washington and was born at Pleasant Valley, where she lived until about 25 years ago when she went to make her home in Crozet. She was a life-long member of the Spaders Lutheran Church and a woman of sterling Christian character… She was well known throughout the southwestern section of Rockingham county… She was a niece of the late D. Washington.
Surviving are her husband, Luther Sandy and one son, Lynnwood Sandy, at home.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Junior Sandy, William Sandy, David Sandy, William Duffy, Betty Duffy and Roland Duffy.
One daughter, Mrs. Mary Duffy, preceded her in death seven years ago.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from Spaders Lutheran Church with a large crowd of sorrowing friends paying their last sad tribute. Services were conducted by Rev. C.K. Rhodes and Rev. T.A. Graves. Burial was in Spaders Cemetery.

Luther W. Sandy Dies at Hospital At University
Luther W. Sandy, 76, died at the University Hospital in Charlottesville, Wednesday. He had been ill with pneumonia for a short time.
Surviving him are the following sisters, Miss Annie V. Sandy and Miss Margaret Alice Sandy, and Mrs. Lena C. Sandy and also a brother, T.G. Sandy.
He was the manager for Greenwood Farms at Greenwood, Va., for about thirty years. He was well known in this section
Funeral services will be held from St. Jacob’s Church on Friday afternoon at three o’clock with a brief service at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Charlottesville at 12:30 p.m.

Mrs. Sandy Dies In Rockbridge
Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Ann Sandy, 84, widow of the Daniel G. Sandy died yesterday morning at the home of her son, Orius Sandy at Moffets Creek in Rockbridge county. Mrs. Sandy was well known in this section.
She is survived by three sons, Raleigh Sandy, of Roanoke; Odus Dandy, of Moffets Creek; and Whitfield, of Waynesboro, and three grandchildren.
She was a life long member of the United Brethren Church and was probably the oldest member of the Pleasant Valley charge.
Funeral services will be held from Spaders Church, Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock, and will be conducted by the Rev. Forest Racey, and Rev. Williamson. Interment will be in the family plot at Spaders Church.
TILMAN R. SANDY

ANOTHER OLD CONFEDERATE ANSWERS LAST ROLL CALL
Tilman R. Sandy, retired farmer and Confederate Veteran, died at 8:40 o’clock last night at his home near Spaders Church. He was 85 years of age. Death was due to infirmaties of age, his health being poor for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning from Spaders Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a consistent member for 50 odd years, the pastor, Rev. H.D. Chapman, officiating. The funeral party will leave the home at 10:30 o’clock.
Mr. Sandy served with the Gray through the War Between the States. He was wounded once. Born in the Spaders Church neighborhood in 1839, all of Mr. Sandy’s life was spent in his native section where he was a substantial citizen. His wife who was Miss Mary Spader died some years ago.
Seven children survive. They are: Misses Annie V. and Lena C. Sandy who lived with their father; W.L. Sandy, of Greenwood; Mrs. J.A. Shumaker, Miss Maggie A. Sandy and F.G. Sandy, of Spaders Church section; and Mrs. J. Lee Propst of Mt. Solon.
MRS. GRACE SILVIOUS

MT JACKSON- Mrs. Grace Edna Silvious, 71, of Mt. Jackson, died Tuesday at Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Silvious was born Jan. 13, 1895 at Quicksburg and was a daugher of the late Dilmon and Emily Smith Silvious.
On Sept. 3, 1921 she married Gilbert Lee Silvious, who died Oct. 3, 1934.
She is survived by three sons, Dilmon Eugene Silvious of Timberville, Gilbert Harding Silvious of Mt. Jackson and Theodore Silvious of Arlington; two step-sons, Jacob and Clarence Silvious, both of Quicksburg; a step-daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Frye of Winchester, and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dellinger Chapel at Mt. Jackson by the Rev. W.L. Taylor. Burial will be in Mt. Jackson cemetery.
CHARLES STONEBERGER

Charles Louis (Dick) Stoneberger, 79, of Rt. 1 Shenandoah died Sunday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Stoneberger had been ill since December and had been in the hospital 12 days.
He was born Dec. 4, 1885 at Humes Run and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Stoneberger.
Mr. Stoneberger was a farmer.
He is survived by his widow, the former Pearl Dofflemyer of Shenandoah; one son Charles E. Stoneberger of Elkton; one daughter, Mrs. George Turner of Fairfax; one step-daughter, Mrs. George H. Frazier of Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Osby Stoneberger of Elkton, and two sisters, Miss Josie Stoneberger and Mrs. Hunter Alger, both of Elkton.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Elkton Mennonite Church by the Rev. Harold Lahman and Bishop Mahlon L. Blosser. Burial will be in the Humes Run Cemetery.
