CULPEPER COUNTY, VA OBITUARIES, VARIOUS OBITUARIES 1800'S-1900
MRS. ELIZABETH ASHER
Culpeper Observer, Friday 28 Aug 1874
DIED
At her residence in Culpeper, Va., Mrs. ELIZABETH ASHER, age about 104 years.
This mother in Israel in early life became a Christian, and was baptized by "Father Mason." She first united with Gourd Vine Church, and after marriage she and her husband, the late Waller Asher joined the Mount Poney Church, of which she remained a member till her death. More than sixty years ago they came to the town of Culpeper, and for years were the only Baptists in the place. Their home was known as "the Baptist home." Mrs. Asher loved to review and talk of the olden time. She remembered Leland, "Father Mason", "Father Conner", "Luther Rice, Churchill, Gordon" and other ministers of her days, and spoke of their texts and sermons... Her only surviving child, Mr. Charles Asher, of Kentucky, and his wife, have the pleasant consciousness that they did everything that tenderest love could dictate?, to sooth the last days of their venerable mother. A large congregation attended upon the funeral services of this aged saint. Her pastor preached from the words: "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." J.B.T.
