The family files that we have presented to you are mostly the research work of Dr. A.D. WOOD, along with letters of correspondence. We have omitted family file information that may include more recent information on living individuals in order to protect their privacy. These pages are scanned images of original notes and research from Dr. Wood's files in the 1920-1930. Some of this info is slow loading and hard to decipher. Please be patient with these pages. We had decided NOT to transcribe these images but we believe that they are valuable since they show what Dr. Wood was going to use to write his history. The actual book was published long after his death and has known errors so as always verify the sources.

Dr. Amos De Russia WOOD was born May 16, 1869 in Floyd County, Virginia and was the son of Richard J. and Judith Anne (SHORTT) WOOD. He married Miss Annie Chapman JOHNSTON, born May 25, 1876, daughter of the late Judge David E. and Sarah Elizabeth (PEARIS) JOHNSTON. Dr. WOOD was a member of the American Medical Association in Virginia and West Virginia. He wrote a book on the families of Floyd County, Virginia, and also did extensive research on early families of Virginia. He was admitted into the Huguenot Society of Virginia on June 1, 1930 by virtue of his descent from Jacque BILEBO, and was also a member of the Virginia Chapter of SAR. Following his death in Bluefield, West Virginia on September 15, 1942 his records were donated to the Wilderness Road Regional Museum by Dr. WOOD’s estate. They have since been cataloged by the Museum’s librarian and genealogist, Elinor Morgan Farmer.NOTE* There are many pages that are missing in his research and many family files are not complete. |
