Dr. Amos De Russia WOOD was born May 16, 1869 in Floyd County, Virginia and was the son of Richard J. and Judith Anne (SHORTT) WOOD. He married Miss Annie Chapman JOHNSTON, born May 25, 1876, daughter of the late Judge David E. and Sarah Elizabeth (PEARIS) JOHNSTON. Dr. WOOD was a member of the American Medical Association in Virginia and West Virginia. He wrote a book on the families of Floyd County, Virginia, and also did extensive research on early families of Virginia. He was admitted into the Huguenot Society of Virginia on June 1, 1930 by virtue of his descent from Jacque BILEBO, and was also a member of the Virginia Chapter of SAR. Following his death in Bluefield, West Virginia on September 15, 1942 his records were donated to the Wilderness Road Regional Museum by Dr. WOODs estate. They have since been cataloged by the Museums librarian and genealogist, Elinor Morgan Farmer.NOTE* There are many pages that are missing in his research and many family files are not complete. |
