EARLY FINCASTLE RECORDS
Although there are a few Fincastle records
left in Christiansburg most of the surviving records now reside
at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. A professor from there,
named Lyman Draper, came to Christiansburg circa 1850s to research
the Draper family and the Draper community in present day Pulaski
Co. He was given all of the Fincastle Co. records he wished to
take. He took them back to Wisconsin. These have been called the
"Draper Manuscripts." They are a compilation
of his life's work regarding history/genealogy. (A lot of it deals
with Virginia specifically.) Lyman Copeland Draper was the director
of The
State Historical Society of Wisconsin from 1854 to 1886.
