Welcome!

Welcome to the new Henrico County - Richmond City VAGenweb page.

My name is Alice Warner and I'm one of the Co-Coordinators for this page. I'm an expert in online genealogy and manage several genealogical websites, and have a personal interest in the Richmond area. I'm a college student in Cleveland so I can't do lookups or anything of that kind. I will be managing submissions and digitizing records for submission to the site. I'm also the list moderator for the VAHENRIC-L list at rootsweb. My email is EmbryProject@gmail.com

I look forward to serving you with this webpage, and look forward to your insight in how to make it a better and more functional page. You may notice the layout has changed. The only things that are gone are broken links-- if I couldn't figure out the new location of an old page, it just got cut, completely. All the other info that used to be here is still here!!

My name is Beth Bond. I am a co-coordinator of this site. Alice does all of the website work.

From time to time I will be contributing genealogy information of the Richmond-Manchester-Henrico County area to the site. I also have some of my own Virginia genealogy websites which I have created and manage. I have been running various websites on the internet since 1998. I do not really have time to do lookups however I will be glad to answer what questions I can for you about what genealogy sources there are that I know of for these areas. If you are related to the following families of this area let me know: Hatcher-Bott-Boisseau-Archer-Vaughan-Clarke-Cunliffe and connected relations to them. E-mail me at: famlytree@att.net

Henrico County was the scene of the second settlement in the colony of Virginia and was established in 1634 as one of its eight original shires.  Its boundaries incorporated an area from which ten Virginia counties were later formed in whole or in part, as well as the cities of Richmond, Charlottesville, and Colonial Heights. The county was named for Henry, Prince of Wales, the eldest son of King James I of England. Richmond was founded in 1737 by Colonel William Byrd II. He inherited the former Stegg lands on both sides of the James River from his father and became known himself as the "Father of Richmond." He visited here in 1733 and planned to build a city. Four years later, his friend William Mayo made a map of Richmond and the first lots were sold. Manchester was established on the land of William Byrd in November of 1769 when the General Assembly ordered that 312 lots be surveyed.  The city remained a separate entity from neighboring Richmond until their consolidation on April 15, 1910.  Manchester was small, running out of money and needed the help of its larger counterpart.  On that day in April, Mayor Maurice of Manchester gave Mayor Richardson of Richmond the key to his city.
