Floyd County Death Records 1853-1872Provided by Jack Spangler
Funeral records of Mr. Marion Thomas Hall made from 1911 to 1943. It essentially gives who it was made for, relationship, who ordered or paid for the coffins, date died, and the amounts he charged. Mr. Hall did this service in the Terrys Fork area of Floyd County.
Mr. Marion Thomas Hall's grandson Everett Hall gave these records to Judy Blackwell and by way of Mary C. Williams, I received them, and i'll share with you all with the permission of Everett Hall. I'll post Relationship additions if you'll send them to me. Judy Blackwell has requested we give credit to Kathy Calvert for these records. She is a genealogy teacher and both Judy and Everett Hall are taking classes with her. Kathy was the one that realized Judy and others would probably be interested in them.

Transcribed by Barbara ReiningerFloyd County, Virginia, is nearly unique in that the 1890 Census record for the county is one of the very few surviving census records for that year for the entire country. Almost all of the census for the rest of the country, for that year, was destroyed by fire in 1921 (either in the fire itself or later). There are several books in the Library of Virginia (the state library) in Richmond listing this census for Floyd County, Virginia (although the National Archives website does not list Floyd County or Virginia as being a surviving record). See more info in Teri Pettit's A Note Concerning the 1890 Census]

If you are interested in reading of this very interesting and tragic story about the 1890 Federal Census (filled with irony and mystery), visit the National Archives page at The Fate of the 1890 Census.
