The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, published quarterly by the Virginia Genealogical Society, includes record transcriptions, family histories and other articles of genealogical interest on the state of Virginia. Queries, book reviews, lists of recent acquisitions at the Library of Virginia and Virginia Historical Society, information on up-coming conferences, etc. are published bi-monthly in The Virginia Genealogical Society Newsletter. Membership in the Society is $27 per year for individuals and institutions and includes both publications, as well as discounts on the cost of Society publications and registration for Society conferences. The Virginia Genealogist is owned and published by John Frederick Dorman. Founded in 1957, this magazine publishes articles and record abstracts of genealogical interest covering the state of Virginia along with book reviews and queries. Two notable continuing series of this publication are the 1800 Personal Property Tax Lists by county and Local Notices from Early Virginia Newspapers. Bessida Cauthorne White publishes a newsletter on these Essex County families on an irregular, sometimes quarterly basis. The newsletter is distributed free of charge.
