Henry DOWNS is mentioned several times in the Chalkley Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, Volume 1, Augusta County Court Record, Order Book #III. I am prticularlly interested in the entry November 30, 1751(217) which states "Henry DOWNS estate attaached." That's it period. If anyone has access to "the attached" or any other information I would very much appreciate hearing from you. This Henry DOWNS would be my GGGGGG-Grandfather. Thanks for any and all help. He served in the Virginia malitia at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1780 and was wounded. For his service he received lands in Buckingham Courthouse. He became a tobacco farmer. In 1786 he married Lucy Scruggs and had five children - Judith, John, Alexander, Elizabeth and Thomas. He had a second wife (Judith Amonette) and three more children - Sally Ann, William Wesely and James Henry. My Great Great Grandfather (Alexander Forbes Jr.) was the county sheriff and later Clerk of court. His brother William Wesely was an honorific colonel and a member of the State legislature before and during the Civil War. I am posting this query to learn if anyone has any information on my immigrant ancestors parents, and if anyone knows of a pirate in our family. James Alexander Forbes. I believe he captured the Loot of Lima and buried it on CoCos Island. My Father (Blair) wouldn't talk about him, and my Grandfather (Peter) just called him the black sheep of the family. Jane and their daughter Elizabeth were in Lynchburg by 1821. The "grapevine" says Josiah died in Amherst Co. Was there a newspaper in the Buckingham area in the late 1700's or early 1800's? Field We are very interested in the parents of Richard LEE who settled in the Fishpond Creek area of Buckingham Co in the early 1700's. One of his children (by his second wife Elizabeth Miller or Muller) was a (William?) Miller LEE from whom my wife (Jenny CHITWOOD) is a direct descendent. Miller married a Peggy Carson and lived in KY, TN, ending up in TX where he died. His father Richard and his mother went to Ballston, VA where she died ca. 1800 and he went on to live with one of his sons in Jackson TN, where he died. Richard lived a long time in Buckingham Co.
