PRICE--Peter Isaac Olsen, 82, pioneer settler of Price, died at his home
here Saturday after an illness of several months.
Funeral services will be conducted in the L. D. S. tabernacle Monday at
2 p. m. Burial will be in Price City cemetery, directed by the Wallace
mortuary.
Mr. Olsen had been a resident of Price for the past 56 years and was
engaged in farming and stock raising until 1932, when he retired. He was
born January 6, 1856, at Manti, eldest son of Soren and Bertha Olsen. At the
age of 7 he moved with his family to Dixie. The family located first at
Spring Dale and later moved to Rockville.
When a young man, Mr. Olsen was engaged in hauling freight from southern
Utah to Pioche and other Nevada towns. While working in Paragonah he met
Sally Ann Barton, whom he married January 11, 1877. Their marriage was
performed the opening day for marriages in Manti L. D. S. Temple.
After making their home in Paragonah for a few years the couple moved to
Price, then part of Emery county, in 1882 and located on Price river about a
mile and a half west of the present townsite. Mr. Olsen was the first Sunday
school superintendent of Price L. D. S. ward. He also acted as first dentist
for the small settlement and served as veterinarian for this part of the
county for a number of years. His wife was the first school teacher in the
community.
He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Peter B. and Stephen
B. Olsen, Mrs. Mary Jane Rasmussen and Mrs. Elvaline Fausett, all of Price,
and Mrs. Viola O'Berto of Helper. Also surviving are two brothers, Erastns
Olsen of Cardston, Canada, and Soren Olsen of Price; 23 grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
