CEDAR CITY--George Washington Lemmons, 83, died at the Iron County Hospital
recently, following an operation for bladder trouble. Mr. Lemmons had been
seriously ill for some time and his condition had become critical previous
to the operation.
Mr. Lemmons was born in Ogden. Utah, on July 23, 1853, son of James and
Rosana Avery Lemmons. On Feb. 5, 1874, he was married to Mary Jane Woolsey.
In 1883 he moved to Arizona with his family where he lived until 1916 when
he came to Cedar City. He has resided here since that time.
He is survived by his widow and eight children: Mrs. E. S. Pearce, Los
Angeles; Mrs. L. C. Cutler, Thatcher, Ariz.; Mrs. W. M. Lytle, Eager, Ariz.;
Clarence Lemmons, Oatman, Ariz.; Mrs. F. L. Gillispie and Mrs. M. O.
Woolsey, Cedar City; Mrs. George Allmark, Salt Lake City; Roy Lemmons, San
Bernardino, Calif.; 42 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the Cedar Third Ward Chapel Monday.
Interment was in the Cedar City Cemetery.
While in Arizona Mr. Lemmons served on the bishopric for several years and
was also a member of the School Board for some time.
He was a pioneer himself as well as the son of a pioneer, his father being
a member of the Mormon Battalion coming to Utah after his discharge from the
United States army in San Diego, Calif.
