CEDAR CITY-Services were held Wednesday for Mrs. Martha Henrietta
Lunt Jones, wife of Lehi W. Jones, livestock grower and president of
the Bank of Southern Utah. Mrs. Jones died Saturday night of pneumonia.
She was born here November 12, 1858, and as a young girl she was
active in church and civic affairs. At the age of 17 she was the first
president of the Retrenchment society of the Cedar City ward.
She was married February 13, 1878, in the St. George L. D.S. temple,
and continued active as an M. I. A. and Relief society worker for many
years. During the world war she served on the liberty loan committee,
and later was a Service Star Legion member.
Her husband, six sons and two daughters survive: Thomas W. Jones,
Newcastle; Kumen, Lehi M., Henry, Erastus and William Jones,
Mrs. Ann J. Gardner, Cedar City; Mrs. S. F. Hintze, Salt Lake;
two sisters and a brother; Mrs. Violet Urie, Mrs. Maude Matheson and
Randall Lunt, Cedar City; 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
also survive.
