Who Is Eligible
to Vote?
All USGenWeb Members as
defined in the USGenWeb
Bylaws are eligible to vote. Only those members eligible to vote
in a given region/area/position may vote for a candidate in the respective
region/area/position.
The By-Laws of
the USGenWeb Project state in (Article Vii. Election Procedures Item #
6) "All members of The USGenWeb Project, excluding Look-Up Volunteers and
Transcribers, shall be eligible to vote. " The following information will
help you understand in what areas you, as an individual member, are eligible
to vote.
Remember, you must be registered
with the EC in all areas of active project participation in order to receive
a voting password.
Areas
Within the USGenWeb Project
The USGenWeb Project is
comprised of two divisions: States, and National Special Projects.
States
The States are divided into four regions.
Northeast/North Central
(NENC): Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan,
New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin
Northwest Plains (NWPL):
Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota,
Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming
Southeast/Mid-Atlantic
(SEMA): Alabama, Delaware, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland,
Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia,
West Virginia
Southwest/South-Central
(SWSC): Arizona, Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana,
Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah
Volunteers within the
States are termed Local Coordinators (LC), and may hold such positions
as State Coordinator (SC), Assistant State Coordinator (ASC), Co-State
Coordinator (Co-SC), County Coordinator (CC), Assistant County Coordinator
(ACC), Co-County Coordinator (Co-CC), and Town Coordinator (TC).
National
Special Projects The National Special Project side is comprised
of the Archives Project, Tombstone Project, Family Group Sheet Project,
Kidz Project, African American Griots Project, Genealogical Events
Project, Lineage Project. There are also several sub-projects:
Digital Map Library, Pension Project, Census Images Project, Church Records
Project, Marriage Records Project, Obituary Project, and the Archives Newsletter.
Additionally there is the Special Collection Project which is comprised
of Family Publications, History Publications, Journals and Letters,
Military, and Photo Collections.
Volunteers with in the
National Special Projects are termed FIle Managers (FM), and may hold such
positions as Special Project Coordinator, Assistant Special Project Coordinator,
State Archive Coordinator, and Local Archive Coordinator.
National
Elected Officers
National
Advisory Board: Members of the Advisory Board are elected by the
membership of the Project as follows:
National Coordinator
(NC): Every volunteer has the right to vote for this position.
Representative at Large
(RAL): Every volunteer has the right to vote for this position.
Four State Coordinator
Representatives (SC): States are assigned to a region. Therefore
these positions are elected by the State Coordinators and Assistant State
Coordinators of the region where the state is assigned.
Eight County [or Local]
Coordinators Representatives (LC, CC): Local Coordinator Positions
are assigned to a state. Therefore these positions are elected by the Local
Coordinators of the region where the state is assigned.
USGenWeb Archive Project
Representative (SPAR, SPTP, etc.): Elected by the volunteers of the
National Special Projects.
National
Issues: All volunteers are eligible to register
to vote on any issue that effects the Project as a whole that is placed
on the ballot of any annual or special election or poll.
So
Where Do You Fit In?
If your volunteer job
is tied to a state then you belong to a Region. Look at the list of regions
(above) and find the state(s) where you volunteer. Those will be the region(s)
you belong in. You are eligible to vote for either the State Coordinator
(if you are a State Coordinator or Assistant State Coordinator) or a Local
(County Coordinator) Representative (if you are a Local Coordinator) that
falls within that region. You are eligible to vote on regional issues in
each region you belong to.
If you work as a volunteer
in one of the Special Projects you are eligible to vote for the Archives
Representative.
And of course you are
eligible to vote for any position or area above that is open for vote by
the membership at large.
