I have inherited an old pair of womens shoes; not sure of their age, but
am guessing they were made sometime between 1895 and 1910. On the inside
of one of the boots is the imprint "W__? Peterson Co. St. Paul." Does anyone
know anything about this company? Such as when it was in existence? If I
could get some kind of a date, it would help me identify which of my gr
grandmother's these belonged to! (In my family, they were sentimental about
everything!) Thanks!

My great-grandfather was James Peter Hanson, born as Jens Peter Hansen
in Denmark Sept. 14, 1858 & he died July 16, 1944 in Lincoln Township,
Washington Co. MN. He was a grocer in Stillwater, MN & is listed in the
Stillwater City Directories from the 1884-1895 edition through the 1904-1905
edition. I have pictures of him from when he came to Minn.
I have a picture of his son, my grandfather, Robert Arendal Hanson that was taken at the soda fountain in the family grocery store which was then at Eash Shore Park, White Bear Lake, MN in about 1922. James Peter Hanson married Anete Peterson on April 17, 1884 in Stillwater & they had 3 children: Arthur Arendal b-1885, Robert Arendal b-1886 & Elizabeth Arendal b-1889, all in Stillwater. I know that my great-grandmother is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Stillwater & I was there this past June.
But I have been unable to discover where James Peter Hanson in buried, as I ran out of time while we were in the area. I was told by Brent at the Washington County Historical Society that part of the White Bear Lake area was a different county. So I'm inquiring for help for any additional information on where James Peter Hanson is buried, any census information, or anything more on his grocery store at White Bear Lake.
Thank you,

Dear researchers:
I would appreciate it if anyone can help me find Ellen Payne Jahn and her husband Robert Jahn in the St. Paul, Ramsey Co., MN area.
As far as I know I have only one set of relatives that lived in St. Paul. Ellen A. Payne was born on 25 Sep 1874 in South Bend, IN and lost her father before she was one. She moved to Barry County, Michigan with her mother and was found located in Minnesota by 1899. I have found her married to a Robert Jahn in the Federal MN 1900 census in St. Paul, MN having been married for one year. I believe she moved to and later died in White Plains, NY but I have no idea where her husband, Robert Jahn, died. I am guessing that he passed away in St. Paul. All that I know about Robert Jahn is that he was born in Germany in 1870, was a book keeper in a clothing store at the time of the 1900 census and was naturalized in 1892 in Pennsylvania. I would appreciate it if you can find out if they had any children. Thank you to anyone that can help me.

5. ADOLPH AUGUST was born on 16 March 1898 and died on 9 September 1969.
I would like to contact anyone who is connected with my SEMPF family. I know the family is quite big because of a picture I have. It looks like a family reunion sometime in the 1890's. Subject: Ramsey County Query: (Jennie) Doyle birth 3/30/1900
Our grandmother was placed in a home in Spring Valley, Minnesota (Fillmore County) on July 8, 1900. Her birth took place in Minneapolis, but her mother, listed in Chidren's Home Society records as "Jennie Doyle" , age 24, Irish, might have lived in St. Paul, Ramsey County. The baby girl was named Jennie Doyle by her mother; the baby's father was Dan or Daniel Cameron. The baby was surrendered and sent to the Jean Martin Brown receiving center on April 13, 1900.
Any information on a Doyle, born 1875 or 1876, living in the Twin Cities area in 1900, most appreciated.
Could this be the "Lizzie Doyle" living on Goodhue Street in the 1900 census and probably in the 1890 city directory as a seamstress, sister of High Doyle, daughter of Fanny Doyle?
Thanks for any and all leads.

I'm looking for information on the HOFFMAN side of my family. My
gfather was named Carl HOFFMAN and was born to Hiller and Tillie (nee
Luibka) Hoffman in Minnesota in July of 1889. The 1900 Census shows
the family living at 125 Manitoba. The family included his siblings: Louisa
(DOB 11/1887), Tina (DOB 10/1891), and Hiller (DOB 3/1900). The 1920 Census
shows them living at 118 Manitoba. His sisters no longer lived with the family
(I don't know why but assumed they married). Carl had married Rose(I don't
know her maiden name) and had two daughters named Marcella(born around 1911)
and Fern(born around 1913). The family was supposed to have owned some businesses
on Rice St. Sometime between 1920 and 1930 Rose and his two daughters died.
He had a child out of wedlock with Marian Levesque on 8/10/1930 (this
was my mother who was later named Patricia). She was sent away to live on
a farm in Wisconsin until another child was born to the couple (Carol). I
assume they were then married and my mother was brought back to live with
them. Her father died 3 years later around 1936. The only information I've
been able to track down was through the 1900 & 1920 Census and a copy
of an application for a social security number for my gfather's brother,
Hiller. I would appreciate any help in tracking down more information (birth,
marriage, & death certificates, etc.) Thanks.

I am looking for anyone who knows anything about this HILLMAN family. They seemed to scatter from Ramsey Co. MN., into S.D., Canada, WI., MI., and into OR. & CA.
I have many photo's of this family, that I would love to share with other family members, but we don't know what became of their descendants!
I have a photo of the Charles H. HILLMAN family, and they had atleast 4 children; there were 2 sons & 1 daughter, but the youngest child is hard to tell if it was a boy or girl, because of the "gown" it's wearing. My G-Grandpa, William Lewis HILLMAN was the black-sheep of the family, and cut off all contact with his siblings, so we have no clue what happened to any of them or their children. (I have since found where some are buried, but where they were between birth & death is a mystery).
If anyone knows anything about this family, please email me.
Thanks, Karmen

According to the death certificate of my great-grandmother Elmira Short Smith
born December 22, 1873, in the newly formed county of Aiken in SC (the only
Co. formed during reconstruction), her father was a Barney Short of St. Paul,
Minnesota.
I can find no one by that name in SC census records, and have not found Elmira with a family at this time, however the 1880 census must be done line by line and I have not covered the areas around Aiken Co, SC.
It has been suggested that he was a part of the occupation troops from Minnesota assigned to SC during reconstruction. Of course, over the years he has become a General according to one elderly aunt. Like all "fish stories" that is definitely debatable. I would just like to find him
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Trying to discover what became of a little girl, Bridget MURPHY, daughter
of William MURHPY and Maryanne MOORE of Hacketstown, Co. Carlow
IRE. As a young girl, aged between 12 and 15 years old, she was taken to
the United States by her uncle, Denis MOORE and the family never heard
from them again. Estimated time she was taken to America was 1909. However,
her exact age and birthdate are not known.
Bridget MURPHY was left an orphan after her parents died. Other siblings were:
John MURPHY, b. 1884 d. 1927, married to Kate DALTON (grandchildren of this couple still living in Ireland who always heard this story and would like to know what became of their aunt Bridget)
William MURPHY
Denis MURPHY, died age 62 in Ireland
Lawrence MURPHY, died age 27 in Ireland
Kate MURPHY died 1954 in Ireland
Other MOORE relatives immigrated earlier to the US and settled in St. Croix County, WI and St. Paul, MN. Family thought possibly this is where Bridget was taken to in America. Any information, or clues to information on Bridget MURPHY or her Uncle Denis MOORE would be welcome. Please respond to Claudia Schuman schuman16@att.net

Interested in the last name of Clark. In 1870 there was a law firm

partnership. The two partners later had a third party named Charles E. Flandrau.

According to information gained from an obituary in the Minneapolis Tidende,
provided by the Norwegian-American Historical Assoc., Peter Thompson died
at his home, 1373 Arona Ave, St.Paul, MN, around the date of Jan. 21, 1926.
It said that he had been ill for about four months. It also mentioned that
Peter had been a building contractor. This falls into line with family history
handed down. Peter had married Anna Odegaard in 1882 and they made there
home for awhile at Silver Lake, IA. By 1885, two sons, Theodore and Sam had
been born and were baptized at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. Later, the family
had moved to Luverne, MN. By 1910, the family had moved to St. Paul. At the
time of his death, Peter was survived by his wife, 6 sons and 2 daughters
- Theodore O., Samuel R., Harry and Archie, all of St. Paul; Oscar of Albert
Lea; Edward of Miami, FL; Mrs. J.P. Low of Chicago; and Bessie M. Thompson
of Hollywood, CA. NAHA also provided that from 1903 to 1909 Peter had been
a member of the Valdres Samband, while he lived in Luverne.
A little more information handed down through the family indicates that Peter,
being a builder helped to build Fort Dodge, IA during WWI. Also, Peter's
son Sam married a woman by the name Florence. They had two children, Dodie
and Ikie. Sam was into the film rental business in the 1920's. Eddie was
a sparring partner for Tommy Gibbons. Archie, the youngest, was involved
in vaudeville, acting and dancing, but died young.
Any help would be much appreciated. The Peter Thompson family is the last
branch of which to track down descendants.

My father George Arthur Materna was born in St. Paul, MN Ramsey County,
his parents were also young when they reached MN with their family, they
came from Bohemia, Czech about 1877? John and Katarina Materna b.
1851? They had two sons Joseph, my Grandpa, and Frank. I understand that
John was killed on a job he was doing, do not know when and have not found
a death certificate on him. The only thing to go on is, that in 1900 Census
MN, his wife Katarina was a widow. '
My Maternal side is Oper, Frank and Elizabeth Agnas, 'Annie' Prokesh
Oper, they also came from Bohemia, Czech. about the same time as my
Materna side. Their child Marie or Mary Oper, my grandma, married Joseph
Materna on 21 January 1898, St. Paul, MN. Both listed on their marriage
certificate, born in Bohemia. John Oper her brother, and later his wife,
Elenore Mary Goldsmith were witnesses at my Grandparents wedding. Another
surname listed on a death certificate for Grandma Annie Oper is Bixa?
As the maiden name of her mother.
Does Ramsey County newspapers have Archives on Obits? I also have some pictures
that I cannot identify, can these be displayed in any news paper so that
someone might recognize them and let me know?
I have not been able to find any of these families in the Census before 1900,
so have to locate them another way? If anyone out there has any ideas or
knows anything about these people, I would appreciate all the help I can
get. I have such a little to go on. Being from a foreign country, only two

ANDERSON, AARON....Previously posted was a query on Magnus ANDERSON and his
wife Anna Martha SVENSEN who were married May 18, 1889 in St Paul, Ramsey
County MN. Since that time we have found the name of his brother in MN to
be Aaron. Aaron remained in MN while brother Magnus and wife removed to Duquesne,
Allegheny County PA. They moved to PA by 1890. Aaron had a wife (name unknown).
We have a picture of Aaron and his wife. They had a son named William [Willie]
Anderson who was a large person and known to be very strong. Willie probably
had other siblings. The family had a large dairy farm and sold milk to Kraft.
Family from Duquesne PA used to visit Aaron and his family quite often during
early 1900's up to 1940's. We would like to locate information on any relatives
and information on how to acquire a marriage certificate for May 18, 1889
in St Paul. Aaron, his wife, Magnus, and Anna Martha were all born about
1870ish. Anna Martha was from Norway. The Anderson brothers were from Sweden.
Aaron and Magnus could have worked as lumbermen for several years before
marriage. They could have been in Maine before moving to MN. Thank You.

1805-1870. Their sons were James, Hugh, Shields, and Charles. They went West
in the late 1800's and early 1900's and settled near St. Paul and Stillwater

ANDERSON, Magnus and SVENSON, Anna Martha were married May 18, 1889
in St Paul, Ramsey County MN. Magnus Anderson had a brother who remained
in Minnesota while Magnus and his wife, Anna, moved to Duquesne, Allegheny
County PA. They moved to PA by 1890. We do not know the name of the brother
who remained in Minnesota, but he was married. We have a picture of him and
his wife. We believe they had a son named William Anderson. The family had
a large dairy farm and sold milk to Kraft. They had other sons, as well.
The picture which we have shows Anna and the wife holding a large stringer
of walleye. Evidently, the farm had fishing nearby. Family from Duquesne
PA used to visit the farm in MN regularly during the early 1900's up to 1940's.
We would like to locate any relatives and information on how to acquire a
copy of the marriage certificate for May 18, 1889 in St Paul. Thank you.
My great-great grandfather lived in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota
from the late 1800- early 1900's. His name was David Morgan. His wife
was Celia Cable Morgan. He is noted for being a minister for the Clinton
Ave Methodist Episcopal Church as of a publication in the North Star Publishing
Co in 1880. He started a charity called "the Bethel" which ministered to
the most destitute along with waterfront. In 1892 there was a fire on a barge
used to conduct services that killed many people including one of his children,
Lulu I believe, who was 12 years old. The floating mission helped to feed
people and lodging was provided. The church moved to Wabasha St.
1. Does the church on Clinton Ave still exist? If so, what is it?
2. Does the "Bethel" charity still exist and what do they do? Is there a
web site for it?
3. Any pictures from that era (1880s) of the floating mission, Clinton Ave
Church or the one on Wabasha?
4. Any pictures of David or his wife or children?
5. Any other information about David Morgan or his family?
Thank you for whoever looks into this.
