No Documents can be ordered within half an hour of closing time.
Searchers wishing to use microfilm/fiche readers are advised to book in advance by telephone or letter. Access to parish registers, as well as some other heavily used classes of records, are normally only by means of microfilm/microfiche.
Car parking (including disabled) is available. A lift is now installed to make access to the Search Room open to all.
Talks and Displays for schools or college groups, local history or any other society, club or organisation, can be arranged, whether in their own premises or meeting places or as part of a visit to the Record Office.
Staff at the Record Office are instructed NOT to comment on records in a way which could be construed as offering legal advice. They are not qualified to give such advice and users should rely on their own judgement under all circumstances.
The record office staff do short searches of up to 15 minutes, as well as supplying details of records available etc. For anything longer than this we recommend our research service. The Record Office has a panel of searchers available who will undertake searches at set hourly rates.
