"It is woman that makes the hero.  It is she that instills the fire of patriotism -- A nation that possesses patriotic women, must ever boast of her gallant sons, brave defenders, and successful generals.  What is it that guides the soldier's hand, and nerves his arm in battle, but the anxious desire to defend the near and dear?"

Quote from the Address of General Sam Houston, President Elect, at Houston paying tribute to the women of Texas, November 25, 1841.    This was Sam Houston's second term as President of the Republic of Texas.

2007—2009  Texas State Regent

Kay Crews

Hello friends,

Thank you for visiting the new Texas Society Daughters of the American Colonists website. Valerie Laskowski of the Honorable Philip Livingston Chapter has done a wonderful job in creating this, and other new tools that will help us communicate more efficiently in Texas. If someone in your chapter does not have internet access, please print this letter and share it with them.

I wanted to report on some of the highlights of the General Assembly in Washington, DC, in 2007.

First and foremost, the National Headquarters renovation has produced truly remarkable results. Walking into the basement door on Good Friday, the first major change was the white ceramic tile, which had replaced dark green carpet. The basement looked so much larger and lighter, and equally important, it SMELLED GOOD. Having gone to Headquarters for almost 20 years, the odor really wasn't noticeable until it was gone.

Walking through, it was thrilling to see how beautiful the rest of our National Headquarters looked. The many hours of hard work (and the hard-earned money) have been well-spent. While it is still clear that the building is a work in progress, there is much to be proud of.

There are some updates from the National Board and the General Assembly that you will be interested in:

State Regent's Theme:

To commemorate deeds…..

●  Of the past

●  Of the present

●  For the future

State Regent's Scripture:

...proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds....

Psalm 26:7

State Regent's Goals for the State Society:

In addition to the State Regent's Project, there are three goals for the State Society:

1. Increase membership

2. Spread the word about DAC to non-members

3. Become better informed members by using the tools we have to enhance communication

State Regent's Goals for Members and Chapters:

For each member to donate $2.50 per year to the Regent's Project

For each member to bring one prospective member to a DAC chapter meeting each year

For each member to read the TSDAC website and participate in the Google Group for sharing information about DAC activities in Texas

For each chapter to honor the National President's call to increase membership by one member and one Golden Acorn member per chapter, per year

For each chapter to have one piece of publicity (tv, article, Colonial Courier) per year

For each chapter to have increased subscriptions to the Colonial Courier

For each chapter to have representation at the Fall Workshop in Salado and the State Assembly

For the State Society to produce a book of DAC markings in the State with pictures and mementos of the markings

Finally, the installation of officers was handled smoothly. The installation ceremony was made all the more meaningful for being conducted by our National Chaplain and Honorary State Regent Dolores Miltenberger, with First Vice Regent Clara Malak at my side. Marie Russell was present to place the sash, and to give me the State Regent's Pin which she has worn with pride for the last two years. There were fourteen Texas Daughters at the General Assembly in 2007. I hope that we will have many more in the delegation in 2008.

Working with the wonderful Daughters of the Texas State Society shall be my privilege and honor for the next two years. I'm so pleased that the adventure has begun!

In DAC friendship,

Kay Allison Crews

State Regent
