Biographical Sketches - Y
YOUNG, HOUSTON AUSTIN,
son of James Edward Young and Theresea Amelia Goeltzier Young, was born in
Chilton, Texas, October 29, 1902. He attended the public school in Chilton.
When he was a small boy he worked in a drug store, grocery store, sold
newspapers, worked in a cotton gin, and chopped and picked cotton. Later he
attended Waco High School.
From February 1918 to June 1919 he
was employed in the oil fields with the Gulf Refining Company in the production
department.
He attended Toby's Business
College at Waco, Texas and was Graduated from this school July 2, 1920. Upon
graduation he accepted employment with the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railroad
and later worked for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.
On May 24, 1924 he was employed by
the Humble Pipe Line Company at Chilton, Texas and worked at this location until
October 1, 19'03 when he moved to Hearne to continue his employment with
this company.
He was married to Edith Lane,
daughter of William Daffin Lane and Bernette Lockherd Lane, June 20, 1929. Two
children, E'Lane Young and James Edward "Jerry" Young, were born to Mr. and Mrs.
Young.
Houston
Austin Young is a charter member of the Waco Chapter DeMolay, a member of the
Odd Fellow Lodge at Marlin, Texas, a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge at
Marlin, Texas, Past Master of the Chilton Masonic Lodge, a member of the Golden
Rule Masonic Lodge of Hearne, a member of the Waco Chapter Royal Arch Masons,
and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hearne where he also has served as
Chairman of the House & Grounds Committee.
Mrs. Young is active in religious
and club circles in Hearne. She is a member of the First Baptist Church, Past
Chairman of the House & Grounds Committee, and a teacher in the Sunday School
Department. She is also a member of the Hearne Shakespeare Club.
