Warm, wonderful thanks to all of the volunteers, contributors and patrons who made this recognition possible.  It would not have happened without you.
Don't you just love Refugio County?

The TXGenWeb Project and The USGenWeb Project

The Refugio County site is dedicated to helping family historians find their roots.  It is a part of The TXGenWeb Project which is part of The USGenWeb Project.  This is a free genealogy site, and everything here is a contribution of people who "love" genealogy and "love" Refugio County.  They are dedicated volunteers and often proud descendants of Refugio County pioneers.  Expect to find an error here or there - they exist in spite of how diligently we work to avoid them.   Let us know, and we will make necessary corrections.  We thank you for your input.

When using the above search engine for this site, please remember that names have been transcribed as written in original records and that the spelling might differ from the spelling used today.  If you do not find your surname with the search engine, the name could still be on the site.  Using the search engine is a "quick find" but does not replace old-fashioned "looking" through the available pages.

It is probably best to put in just one surname (one spelling) and do the search.

The above photos are from the collection of Maggie Tom of Tivoli, Texas.  This was the flood of August 1947 during which 15 inches of rain fell on Tivoli.  In the first photograph you can see Garza Grocery,  Melen Pharmaceutical Laboratory, and the Post Office, as well as a man carrying a large box on his shoulder through the flood waters.  The second photo looks as if it was taken from a roof.  In addition to the several trucks and autos, there is a sign to the left that reads, "Valley Gold Ice Cream - Cafe".  Perhaps, someone can identify the cafe or some of the other buildings.
