MCDADE POST OFFICE

  The MCDADE  U.S. POST OFFICE, was established in 1871, and was located on the upper floor of the  Woodmen of the World Building from 1898 until 1907 when it was moved into the “NOTORIOUS ROCK FRONT SALOON  BUILDING  (THIS BUILDING)” where it remained until 1933,  when it was moved to THE MCDADE STATE BANK BUILDING, remaining  there until the NEW MCDADE POST OFFICE was  built on the corner of Waco and Austin Streets in 1999. Prior to 1898 the Post Office moved around to various  locations depending on who was postmaster at the time. 

MAIL SERVICE—DEPARTURES AND ARRIVALS

Sealed proposals will be received at this office until the 1st of December, next, for carrying the MAIL on the following routes from the 1st day of January, 1839, to 1st January, 1840.

 1.  From Houston to Galveston, via Harrisburg, Lynchburg, Spillman’s and New Washington, weekly.

Leave Houston of Friday, 10  A.M. and arrive at Galveston on Saturday at 12 A.M.

      Leave Galveston on Wednesday 10 A.M. and arrive at Houston on Thursday at 12 A.M.

2.  From Houston to Cincinnati, via Montgomery 10 A.M., 100 miles , weekly.

Leave Houston on Friday 7 A.M.  and arrive at Cincinnati on Sunday 8 P.M.

Leave Cincinnati on Monday 7 A.M. and arrive at Houston on Wednesday 8 P.M.

3.   From Cincinnati  to Nacogdoches, via Naches and Durst’s. 100 miles, weekly.

Leave Cincinnati on Monday 7 A.M. and arrive at Nacogdoches on Thursday 10 A.M.

Leave Nacogdoches Thursday 2 P.M. and arrive at Cincinnati on Sunday 8 P.M.

4.   From Nacogdoches  to Gaine’s  Ferry, via San Augustine and Milam, 60 miles, weekly

Leave Nacogdoches Friday 8 A.M. and arrive Gaine’s Ferry on Saturday 8 P.M.

Leave Gaine’s Ferry on Monday 8 A.M. and arrive at Nacogdoches on Tuesday 8 P.M.

5.    From Nacogdoches to Epperson’s Ferry, 130 miles, once every two weeks

Leave Nacogdoches on Friday 7 A.M. and arrive at Epperson’s Ferry on Tuesday 8 P.M.

Leave Epperson’s Ferry on Saturday 7 A.M. and arrive at Nacogdoches on Wednesday 8 P.M.

6.   From Epperson’s Ferry to Jonesborough, 125 miles, once every two weeks, via Myrtle Springs and Clarkville.

In coascequence of the increase of the mail on routes #2,#3, and part of #12 (from Houston to Richmond) it is anticipated that a stage, or an extra horse will be required on those routes.  Bond  and security will be required of each  contractor, and the names of persons intended to be given as security, shall be sent with the proposals
