The Madison County Library is a small library with a large genealogical collection. We have a large collection of Madison County history, quite a bit of Texas history - mostly on adjacent counties - and some reference books for other states.
| HOURS | Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday & Sunday Closed |
| LOAN PERIOD | Books, Videos, Audio cassettes and Magazines check out for two weeks. Paperbacks with a colored dot are on the honor system. |
| LIBRARY CARDS | A library card is free to any permanent resident of Madison County. To obtain a card, a person must show a photo ID, proof of current address, and have a reference. Children applying for library cards must be accompanied by a parent or guardian with acceptable identification. Children must be able to write their complete names. A $2.00 fee is charged to replace a lost card. |
| NON-RESIDENT LIBRARY CARDS | Library cards are issued to out-of-county residents for a fee of $10.00 a year. |
| LATE CHARGES | Books and magazines - 5¢ per day per item with a maximum being
the replacement cost of the materials.
Videos, CDs and audios - 50¢ per day per item with a maximum being the replacement cost of the materials. |
| RENEWALS | Library materials may be renewed by telephone or e-mail, but we prefer in person. |
| LOST MATERIALS | Charges for lost or irreparably damaged items include the replacement cost of the item plus a $5.00 non-refundable handling fee. "Minor" damage such as crayon marks or tears are subject to a $5.00 damage fee. |
| GENEALOGY | We have an extensive genealogy and local history collection for in-house research only. We do genealogy research for a $5.00 fee per query and 25¢ per photocopy. |
| COMPUTERS | We have eight public access computers with Internet connections. Complete computer use policy is available at the front desk. Printouts are 25¢ each or 10¢ for student work. |
| SERVICES | We have a photocopy machine for public use. Copies are 25¢ each or 10¢ for student work. Color copies are available for 50¢ each. We have a fax machine and charge 50¢ a page to send or receive faxes. IRS forms are available during tax season on a first come, first served basis. We also keep binders of previous years' forms that are available to be photocopied. |
| CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMING | Storytime - usually Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. Call the library
for available dates. Bring your pre-schooler for stories, crafts, songs,
games and activities.
Summer Reading Program - Classes for Pre-K through 6th grade; reading, games, crafts, guest speakers and great prizes. Call for days and times. Check the Children's Room for our Spanish and Bilingual books! |
