Biography

The book, "Through the Years - a History of Crosby County", Spikes & Ellis, relates: "Among the preachers that have brought the message of salvation to Crosby County, the name of Bolinger stands out. Rev. Bolinger settled in the Cone Community, where he lived on his farm and preached far and wide. His son, Charlie followed after and lived on the farmstead, where he reared his family, Loe, Louis, Vina, Katherine and Clara. Like his father, Charlie has gone throughout the West preaching to many churches. The Bolingers belong to the Primitive Baptist Church, Charlie and his wife are now retired and live in Lubbock."

Letter from Elder W. Lee Bolinger, Rt. 2, Box 60A, Hereford, Texas, Feb. 1965: "I am the oldest son of Elder Charlie J. L. Bolinger. I was born at Cone, Texas, 1909. My father was not a War veteran, but his father was a Civil War veteran. His name was J. R. Bolinger. He was a preacher, too. They were both Primitive Baptist Elders. They are both buried at Old Emma Cemetery. My father, C. J. L. Bolinger was born in 1885 Dec. 4; he died in 1956, Nov. 9th. His father, John Riggs Bolinger was born 1847, May 30th. He died 1918 Jan 17th.

Grandfather moved from New Mexico to Texas in 1900. I don´t know where he lived when he enlisted in the war, nor when he was discharged. Grandmother, Melvina is buried beside him at Emma.

I am a Primitive Baptist Elder, too. I wish I could be of more help to you."
