I am seeking information on an ancestor, Wilson Hewitt Curtis, b.07-04-1824 in Smith Co., TN, according to his Civil War pension application. He died 11-16-1914 in Bedford Co., TN. His father was Mose Curtis, born in N.C., date unknown. Wilson's mother was Pheby Murphy, born in Ky., date unknown. Wilson H. Curtis married Elizabeth Miller 01-28-1860. In her will the three PALMER sons were mentioned plus son Hamilton DAVIS, daugs, Orpha MARTIN, and Mary RASH. The PALMER sons, the DAVIS son, and dau Mary RASH all went to Jefferson Co, Il. Interested in any information on the surname PUTTY. John and Sarah MILLSAPS PUTTY lived in Jackson Co., Tn. John was born in 1792 and Sarah was born 1789. They were married in Sevier Co.,TN in 1812. They are both buried in the Gainesboro Cemetery. According to Goodspeeds History of Macon Co. their grandson Francis M. Putty lived in Macon Co. and practiced medicine there. Seeking infor on my ggggrandmother, Sarah Piper, wife of Tapley Gregory. Their son Jathan was born, probably in Smith Co., on Oct. 8, 1817. Alexander, Abraham, James, and John Piper arrived in Smith Co. during the 1790's from Orange Co., NC. The Gregorys also arrived (from neighboring Chatham Co., NC) during that period. Was Sarah, wife of Tapley, the daughter of one of these four? I suspect Alexander was her father--partly because his wife who removed with him from NC was named Sarah. Also, Tapley's grandson was named Seth Alexander, the Seth being for a ggrandfather on his mother's side. However, if Sarah was named in Alexander's will (proved 1821) it was as "Sally Piper," rather than Gregory. Sarah must have died between 1802 and Alexander's death, for his wife is named in the will as "Patsy, now Gresham." What was the relationship between Alexander, Abraham, James, and John Piper? Can anyone tell me the maiden name of Sarah, Alexander Piper's first wife. The Pipers sseem to have come to Orange Co., NC, from around Westmoreland Co., VA. A Robert McGill enlisted in the US Army in January of 1818 at Ditto's Landing, on the Tennessee River near Huntsville, AL., for service in the Seminole War of 1818. Research Henry DAWSON born 1823 in Smith Co. Tenns. I first find him in Jackson co, AL married to Elizabeth Raulston. They have a child Richardson Jasper Dawson bn 1855. They live out there lives in that area. The Commissioner of Claims records from the civil war states Herny was born in Smith Co. He also had a brother who served for the Union in a Wisconsin regiment. In the 1860 and 1870 census, in addition to his wife and chilren there is listed a Malinta and Rebecca Dawson. possibly a sister or sister in law. thanks

She was b. 27 July 1785 in NC. d. Unk...On 15 Dec. 1798 in Sumner Co. he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the TN Militia. On 15 May 1901 in Smith Co., he was commissioned a Lieutenant in the TN Militia. He lived in Sumner, Smith, Rutherford, and Hardin Co.'s in TN before moving to Texas in about 1837. In 1839 he was found in Red River Co., Republic of Texas. On 7 Feb 1842, Certificate No. 23 issued to Noah Lilley by the Land Courts of Paschall County, Texas, 640 Acres. This land was on the Cherokee Trace and the head rights on North, Middle, and South Lilley's Creeks. Paschall Co. Was not properly organized and only existed a few years. In 1846 it became Upsher Co.
