Following is a transcription of the above person's (TN) obituary from the Putnam
County Herald of Cookeville, TN, dated April 4, 1906:
On Tuesday evening, March 6th, 1906, Mrs. Mary Cumbee, wife of A.
Q. Cumbee, died at her home two miles south of Cookeville. Mrs. Cumbee had been an
invalid for several years and the writer, who visited her many times during her illness,
can say that her faith in the Lord enabled her to endure patiently her affliction.
She was a good wife and mother, an affectionate sister, she was of a generous and
graceful hospitality and will be no stranger in the house of God. She leaves a
husband and two small children, a great many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
Her remains were laid to rest in the Cookeville cemetery in the presence of a large
crowd.
To loose such a dear one truly brings a deep and heavy shadow,
but we should remember that light will sometime break through, and there will be a glad
and happy reunion in the great beyond. It has indeed been a heavy blow, but think of
One who careth for us all. He has prepared a bright and beautiful home beyond the
grave, and we will wait only a brief period, when, in sweetness and in love, we will go to
meet our loved ones to depart no more.
