Taylorsville, Johnson County, TN

Incorporated in 1866.  Named Taylorsville after Col. James P. Taylor. In 1885 the name Taylorsville was changed to Mountain City.

From an 1850 -1853 U.S. Atlas (Gazetteer of the US  By Thomas Baldwin and J. Thomas, M.D., 1854):

TAYLORSVILLE, a post-village, capital of Johnson co., Tennessee, 350 miles E. by N. from Nashville. It stands at the W. base of the Stone or Iron Mountain, which contains inexhaustible mines of iron ore. Waterpower is abundant in the vicinity, and there are several iron works in operation.
